Break Your Fast is undeniably delicious. I always get the Fried Chicken Benedict and it never fails to disappoint. Their staff is friendly and service is on point once you manage to get in and make an order. Why am I docking them 3 stars? In the past week, I have: - Called several times on Saturday to make a pickup order, during different times of the day, and no one picked up. - Walked in after calling with no answer at 1pm,thinking they were just busy, and was told the kitchen was closed for to-go orders. The place was empty and there was staff cleaning up, even though they don't close until 2:30pm? - Walked in TODAY (Wednesday) at 1:30pm and was told yet again they were closed. Sign still says open until 2:30pm. I understand if they don't want to take any orders right before closing, but both times I have walked in at least an hour before closing and was turned away. Wouldn't it make more sense if you set your official closing time to 1:30pm instead then? And if the place is empty but the staff is still around, why isn't anyone answering the phone? Overall, I'm upset that my time has been wasted calling/driving over to a restaurant that arbitrarily decides closing times. read more

Now I'm not big on complaining about restaurants and usually Yelp is very good at helping find places where I don't have to leave a bad review. However, this time I saw something that could not be overlooked. I stopped by a few days back with some friends and everyone else said their food was very good, but unfortunately mine was not. I order the "Krabbycake" Benedict. This wasn't the first time I ordered this here. I ate the something year or 2 earlier and swear it was something different. The Krabbycake was actually in fact not crab at all but it was the crab stick stuff kamaboko. Now I did not order a California roll which would be expected, but to use this stuff in a crab cake is simply unacceptable. Maybe I should have done more homework and asked if it was real crab meat inside, but one would expect it to be real crab. I've should have known that for a 10.00 dish, something had to be cut somewhere and the fact they called it "Krabbycake" with a K. So, I was quite disappointed in that. However, I will return to try their other dishes because everything else looked really delicious. So I'm asking you Break Your Fast, to fix this dish or remove it, because you cant call it a crab cake and put fake crab in it. The fried chicken looked REALLY GOOD!! My boyfriend and I ordered: - Krabbycake Benedict - South of the Border Omelette - Beignets Overall, I thought the food was tasty, but nothing amazing. The only item I highly enjoyed and would make me want to return are the beignets. It's so delicious and fluffy! I recommend ordering them! In addition, portion sizes are good, prices are reasonable, and service was fine. It's conveniently located across the street from the Union City Bart Station. The food here is super tasty! The place is pretty small but has outdoor seating. Even with all the outdoor seating, there is usually a waitlist to eat there. Expect a wait if you are planning on eating here on the weekend or holiday. I have eaten their country potatoes, chicken fried steak, pancakes, beignets, eggs, and sausages. All are very tasty. Break your fast is a small little breakfast spot that has been on my bookmark list for a long time. My sister came from out of town and I wanted to show her a nice breakfast spot so I chose this one. We arrive at 11 o'clock and was seated by 11:40, not a bad wait considering that I hear their lines get REALLY long and the wait is CRAZY! You have the chance to sit either inside or outside and we chose either and was sitting inside which turned out to be good because it was hot weather that day. Inside there are about nine tables and chairs. Outside is the best for larger groups and has about six tables. Staff is young and very friendly when it comes to ordering your food. I ordered the fried chicken Benedict for $9.75 as well as the biscuits and gravy! One thing that surprised me was they don't bring all your food out at one time so I received my biscuits and gravy before my big meal which was a little disappointed especially since I wanted to eat my biscuits and gravy later. But not a biggie! Food was really good and seasoned right! I hear they have BOMB beignets and although I wanted to order some on my first visit I was totally full and couldn't intake anymore! I LOVE chicken and waffles and I like how BYF puts their own little twist on this dish. First of all, they use panko breading for their chicken. They also use boneless chicken filets which I normally consider sacrilege but I didn't mind this time. Decent seasoning. Not bad at all. I found it funny that I only got three pieces of waffle. I understand that the proportions are correct if it's only 3/4 of a waffle rather than all 4 pieces but sometimes I joke around that the chef got hungry during work lol. Crabbycake Benedict is good too. Texture was alright and the flavor was decent. Their hollandaise had more flavor than I was expecting and one of the poached eggs was actually a little overcooked (I love them runny). Potatoes weren't salty which was good but I feel like it was missing something. Maybe make it a bit crispy or add some spices/onions/peppers. BREAKFAST JOINT THAT HITS THE SPOT When I go out to eat it is usually for dinner. However my favorite meal of the day is breakfast. I never really could find a great place to eat breakfast until now. The first time I came here was two Saturday mornings ago. Unlike most I didn't have to wait in line as I arrived at about 8AM. I didn't want to order items that I usually get breakfast such as skillet, waffles, and omelets. I wanted to try something different. I ordered two items. The first item I ordered was the beignets. I've had beignets at other eateries but the quality and price at Break Your Fast was better than any beignets I've ever had. There are five pieces of beignets. These beignets are light yet crispy. The best time to eat them is right when they are served to you as they come out right hot off the fryer. The sweet, creamy sauce accentuates the beignets. The second item I ordered was SPAM Benedict. As a typical Pinoy I was going to order spam with egg and rice. But I have a confession to make - I never had eggs benedict before. So I was going to lose my eggs benedict "virginity" here. As an admitted egg slut the poached egg with its runny egg yolk over the spam made the dish a match made in heaven. All joking aside the dish was really tasty. Since I never had eggs benedict before I'm glad I choose this place to eat them here. The dish also comes with a side of country potatoes or hash browns. I decided to order the hash browns. I never like the hash browns at other breakfast eateries as they tend to be soggy and oily. Maybe it's because I'm so used the McDonald's style of hash browns growing up. Growing up I never liked pancakes as I prefer waffles. My intent was to order the blueberry pancakes. What I noticed the Special of the Day, which is listed on the wall, was Fried Chicken Benedict. I was to order that dish when my server informed me that it was sold out recently. That ended up as a blessing in disguise. So I ordered the blueberry pancakes yet also foolishly ordered the waffles. I say foolishly because I ended up with too much starch that morning. Regarding the blueberry pancakes there are lot of blueberries in the pancake. Some breakfast eateries skimp on the number of blueberries in the pancake. The batter at Break Your Fast is lighter than most eateries. However my experience still reiterated that I prefer waffles over pancakes in general. So what about the Fried Chicken Benedict as a blessing in disguise? Well I came here this morning, the day after Christmas, with the intent of ordering that dish. Unlike Christmas Eve I was able to order that dish. The runny egg yolk over the fried chicken is a "food porn" experience. My overall take on this eatery is the beignets and egg benedict dishes stand out on the breakfast menu. If you have just the beignets and a cup of coffee you had an affordable yet satisfying breakfast experience. This place is super dog friendly & the staff is so accommodating & friendly. I just had to start with that. Yes, they do close at 3pm on Saturdays so this isn't a place you can go to if you aren't an early riser. They have outdoor seating which is where you can bring your dog. It is shaded with an umbrella. What I found super awesome was that they have bowls available to put water in for dogs. Our waitress brought out a water in a pitcher to put in the dog bowl which I absolutely thought was so thoughtful - KUDOS! We were helped by two people - both were SUPER friendly. I ordered a lemonade - our waitress apologized for the "smaller than usual" glasses but it was nothing we would ever complain about. What did I order? Cheese (American, Jack, Cheddar & Swiss) Omelet with potatoes & an English muffin (jam available on the table): Super filling! I didn't even get to finish my potatoes because I was so full. We also ordered some beignets (first time having it!) - SUPER SWEET which means SUPER GOOD in my book. I've had this place bookmarked for a hot minute, attempted to come once before with the bf but there was a ridiculously long wait (which I figure happens here all the time) but finally made my way there this morning with my lil one. I know now why there always is a crazy wait! Delicious! I came in initially wanting French toast, then upon looking at the menu I ended up changing my mind and going with a veggie scramble (no tomatoes because I just can't do tomatoes in my eggs) but still got the French toast for my little one. Within a few minutes, we got our food. Portions were perfect! Not too much at all, not too little. Some breakfast places go way overboard on portion sizes and you end up leaving the place in a food coma. Not here. I couldn't finish the whole plate, but did manage to do some serious damage to it with minimal leftovers and leave comfortably. Back to the food. My scramble was delicious. Really cheesy but delicious. I was very pleased to see that they did not skimp on the veggies at all... Every bite was full of egg, mushroom, cheese and spinach. So good. The potatoes were cut to a nice thickness and cooked perfectly.. They had that delicious country potato texture, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. The French toast was amazing as well, nice crispy edges but the bread remained super soft. And just the right amount of sweetness too. Service was good, I have no complaints. My water was filled when it was empty, and they accommodated my lil one with a cup that had a lid as well as giving her a coloring book and crayons to pass time, which is a huge plus! I can see how it could become a bit hectic here though, I noticed as we were eating the crowd outside became larger and larger... It's so hard to give this a 2 stars since I have been here before and as overall, service and food was descent until my last visit. Came here around 11 am and as my last visit, it was packed and there was a long wait but I was ok. I knew what the process was and what to expect when it came to the wait. When my name was finally called, was excited to finally sit down since I highly recommended this place to a friend and we were hungry. When we finally sat down, we were somehow greeted and water came in quick. We put our orders in and the wait begins. 15 mins passed by, no food. I noticed that the group that was seated right after U.S. Got their food before us. I was kind of confused as we were seated first and we had a smaller group. I finally flagged down a server and it wasn't the most pleasant answer we got. "They ordered ahead so they get their food first". Now, What was that!! If I knew that we could do that, I would of done the same thing. Now my party had 2 kids and was really hungry. I was never told that ordering ahead would minimize the wait and can help with the orders. A bit furious, this was almost 40 min from when were seated and our food was not done. When we finally got our food, I think that they had forgotten our orders since my corn beef hash was so undercook, that I didn't want to eat it. Other orders from my party was cold. I had high hopes and having to tried them in the beginning was great that I looked like a fool to my friends. I really wanted to try this place after seeing reviews. So I placed an order, and got beignets, breakfast #2, and a scramble. The beignets were not beignets at all... they were oversized donut holes. Beignets are supposed to be light and airy. The vanilla sauce tastes of water, powdered sugar, and a splash of vanilla extract. It was not enjoyable at all. These were so DENSE and just gross. My scramble had a hair in it which I tried to overlook, I didn't eat the scramble so I continued to the breakfast #2 I ordered. The pancakes were so dense and bread light. I'm not one to write negative reviews, but as I was walking around my neighborhood and seeing all the empty buildings and of mom and pop businesses shutting down, I felt compelled to go ahead and support a local business here in my hometown of Union City. I decided to come to Break Your Fast for breakfast since I do enjoy their food, and figured to could go and support them as well. Unfortunately, my good deed backfired on me by going to this restaurant. Upon arrival, I let the hostess know that I needed a table for one for patio dining, and was immediately rudely asked if I had a mask. I get it with the whole pandemic going on, there are a lot of protocols, and I am trying my best to follow suit. Putting on a mask is a new habit that I am trying to form. I seemed to have forgot it in the car. Like I stated earlier, I get the stresses of the situation and I should have had it on, but the way that the lady (I believe she is the owner, with the colored hair) asked me, it felt pretty degrading. I followed anyway and put my mask on, waiting for my table to be set, and the same lady that had asked me to put my mask on let out her frustration to her fellow employee right in front of my face by saying "I CAN'T BELIEVE I STILL HAVE TO ASK PEOPLE TO PUT THEIR MASKS ON" as I was ordering my food. Would you want to stay at an establishment where the people who are serving you are nonchalantly talking about you in FRONT of your face and to fellow employees? I decided to just take my food to go. I have never felt so uncomfortable. The lady who was taking my order (she was actually very nice to me) was also the same lady that the owner vented to, she asked me if I really did want to leave, and I did. On top of that, the salmon Benedict I ordered had such a small amount of salmon it barely covered one muffin. To make a long story short, I just wanted to support a local business and was greeted with annoyance and rudeness from the establishment. Wow, Break Your Fast is my new favorite local restaurant for breakfast! Break Your Fast used to be Jimmy's Place. I never got around to trying this restaurant until they changed names and ownership. It may be hard to find if you've never been here. There is a walkway and it's past Jenjon's Cafe and Favorite Indian restaurant. Break Your Fast is small but it makes this restaurant feel cozy with the star lighting fixtures, Christmas tree artwork and chalkboard walls. I ordered the corned beef hash benedict and shared the beignets. I loved how the corned beef hash was crispy and they included an extra egg between the two benedicts. The potatoes were good and weren't mushy or soggy. I thought it was unique that they give you the option of rice or potatoes with their breakfast dishes. They give you five beignets for only $2.50! They were pillowy and delicious with the vanilla sauce. They give you a little extra sauce at the center of the plate. Service was great! They regularly check on you and make sure your water is refilled. It was a big plus that they played some good music (Goldspot's rendition of Float On!). I've recently gotten really addicted to eggs benedict, so every time I see it on the menu somewhere I'm like "Can we go?!" We went on a Saturday around noon and there were 4-5 small parties before us on the wait list. They could've seated people faster if they were more efficient about clearing tables and being more attentive. We waited 30 minutes before we were seated. Then we waited another 20 minutes for our food. I had the Smoked Salmon Egg Benedict with a side of fruit. They cooked the salmon and you could only really taste the smokiness when eaten alone. I couldn't really taste the salmon under all the tomato, onions, and eggs. I think it would've tasted better with mushrooms and more seasoning. My boyfriend had the Garden Omelette with a side of potatoes. It was really good and tasted "healthy," at least as healthy as you can get with an omelette. Overall, the food is decent, but service is slow though friendly. The restaurant is in the corner of a shopping plaza and fairly small even with outdoor seating. Unfortunately I'm going to change my review to 3 stars instead of 4 given additional experiences here. Basically, I feel like the menu is a really big hit or miss. I love crabcakes and I love benedicts (they're my favourite type of breakfast) so I figured that combination couldn't go wrong. If my first experience here was just of this breakfast and I never found the Corned Beef Hash Benedict, I probably would've only given this establishment 2 stars. The crabcakes didn't really have much of a taste to them. They may as well have replaced bread with the crabcakes and there wouldn't have been any difference. I had to pile on tabasco to make it taste like *something*, ANYTHING. Yum yum yum!!! You got beignets? IM SOLD! ANYTIME, ANYWHERE! Service: very casual, not rushed, very friendly, excellent for morning moods! Food: so good!!!! The omelets taste... Not bland! (Omelets are usually not too good at certain places but this one was tasty!) Krabby Benedict was bomb!!!!! I could go on about it & the potatoes! Beignets are yummy and soft.. 5 for $2.50? Good deal!! Location: a little hard to find... In the corner of a plaza but located in the back. I think if u park by Starbucks and walk down the corner you'll see it? Drove all the way down from the trivalley to try some bomb brunch! A hole in the wall for sure. Had to call the place to find out where the heck they were located! FYI park by rite aid and walk pass the ups store they are located behind the whole place. Walking distance. I ordered the breakfast burritos with the country potatoes and let me tell you. Salsa avocado and sour cream is a must. It all melted in my mouth, so much flavor so much yummmmmmm. My gf got the smoked salmon Benedict which she thought was awesome, I didn't try it cause I'm not into that. Over all the staff was friendly and food very good. read more

I came here for brunch on a Saturday morning and we waited about 30min. There's always a wait here esp. on weekends so come early! The restaurants pretty tiny too. I got the garden omelette and it was delicious! It was light and healthy. It came with potatoes and four slices of bread. We also got beignets (they give you 5 pieces), omg these were sooo good...I wanted more!!! Anyways, I love how affordable this place was! Two entrees, 1 beignets, and coffee came out to be about $25! read more

I've now been here three times and have nothing really bad to say. The food is delicious, especially the beignets and french toast! But all three times that I went they forgot something that we ordered. 1st time, they forgot our beignets. 2nd time, they forgot our drinks. 3rd time, they forgot our toast and fruit. Each time we didn't really mind, we just let them know and they either brought it to us a little late or happily took it off the bill without us even asking! Regardless of that, it's a nice little place to come for some quick breakfast in the area. read more

New ownership that replaced Jimmy's. They adopted the old menu but changed the prices and times to the specials. If you come here before 9:30AM, you'll still get the $5 special deals and $6.50 before 11AM. The results to the ownership touched up the place making it a bit more modernized. More staff and very nice. But the breakfast definitely didn't hold up to Jimmy's, there's just something missing to the flavors. The Beignets changed to a circular shape and they sweetened the sauce rather than using just condense milk that made it too sweet. The beignet was just not the same thus I don't think I will be ordering it again. I'm not so sure this place will be my regular weekend breakfast now. read more

One of my favorite places to get Brunch in the East Bay. It gets pretty crowded on the weekend because its probably one of the better brunch places in Union City. Theres almost every brunch item you can think of here. Note, this place is sort of hard to find. Its located down a little ally way on the corner. -Breakfast burrito: Fat burrito that comes with Salsa, sour cream, and Avocado on the side and potatoes or rice. The salsa is amazing and the burrito is solid. Theres eggs, cheese, and a bunch of meat inside. The side of potatoes aren't anything special. Just a side of mushy soft potatoes with seasoning on it. I was hoping that they would have a little more crunch and bite to it. -Eggs Benedict: Typical brunch dish with huge slices of ham. The ham they put in-between the bread and eggs are huge slices and really delicious. -Beignets: 5 pieces of Amazing, really delicious deep fried dough nuts with powered sugar and vanilla sauce. This was probably my favorite dish even though it was dessert. The beignets were light fluffy and crispy in the outside. I should have ordered 2 orders. Its really good. We got all this for about $20. The portions of the food is really good for the price and the service is decent. The staff is really friendly. This is my go-to spot for brunch! read more

I've been trying to come here for a while, but they're always crowded on Sunday mornings. Finally was able to get a table when the crowd died down yesterday. There is an outdoor patio seating and indoor seating as well. Really good food and quick service. Their beignets are so bomb. You have to get them. Yesterday, I got the Jimmy's Skillet with rice. Holy crap it was a lot of food. The time before that I had the Hot Link Scramble. Definitely a hidden spot in Union City and it's bomb food that's super inexpensive. read more

It's a hidden small jewel on the back side of a strip mall. I went in and didn't had any idea what to expect, but I was happily surprised. The servers were very helpful and fast. I am a breakfast person and my whole day depends on my breakfast. I loved my Krabbycake Benedict with potatoes. A little pricey cost me about $14 without the tip. The only thing I'll change will be the stake knife which cane with Benedict. Food was awesome, tables were clean and service was great. read more

Tried it for the first time today &I have to say.. It is quite deelish! I ordered the krabbycake Benedict &my bf had the corned beef hash Benedict. The krabbycake Benedict was so good! The eggs were cooked to perfection and the crab cakes... YUM! I would def recommend this place to all my friends &family. The place is pretty small &can get pretty crowded. We got there around 8 am on a Sunday &got seated right away, but more people were coming around 8:30-9:00am. So if you don't like to wait, I suggest to come here earlier. read more
