My boyfriend and I decided to come here since we were in the area and we LOVED this place the first time around. Had this been our first experience here, we would have never come back again. Firstly, our waitress tried to seat us inside after we had marked outside seating on the wait list clipboard. So, we had to wait some more. Our waitress was also wearing short shorts. Like ridiculously up her butt short. That kind of attire is not appropriate for food service. There was a time when she was putting something on the tables next to us and her rear end was not even 5 inches from my boyfriends face. I can only imagine that she's doing that intentionally. As for the food, I ordered an ice tea that tasted rancid so I ordered an orange juice replacement which tasted fine. I decided to venture away from what I had gotten the time before. I ordered the sausage patty eggs Benedict. My boyfriends food came an awkward 10 minutes before mine. This was extremely awkward since he sat there waiting for me to get my food. I was expecting a soft poached egg and what I got was an egg that was completely raw inside. It popped all over my food leaving most of it inedible. The waitresses attitude and attire really ruined the meal and my food ensured that we will never come back. I'm not one to write negative reviews, but as I was walking around my neighborhood and seeing all the empty buildings and of mom and pop businesses shutting down, I felt compelled to go ahead and support a local business here in my hometown of Union City. I decided to come to Break Your Fast for breakfast since I do enjoy their food, and figured to could go and support them as well. Unfortunately, my good deed backfired on me by going to this restaurant. Upon arrival, I let the hostess know that I needed a table for one for patio dining, and was immediately rudely asked if I had a mask. I get it with the whole pandemic going on, there are a lot of protocols, and I am trying my best to follow suit. Putting on a mask is a new habit that I am trying to form. I seemed to have forgot it in the car. Like I stated earlier, I get the stresses of the situation and I should have had it on, but the way that the lady (I believe she is the owner, with the colored hair) asked me, it felt pretty degrading. I followed anyway and put my mask on, waiting for my table to be set, and the same lady that had asked me to put my mask on let out her frustration to her fellow employee right in front of my face by saying "I CAN'T BELIEVE I STILL HAVE TO ASK PEOPLE TO PUT THEIR MASKS ON" as I was ordering my food. Would you want to stay at an establishment where the people who are serving you are nonchalantly talking about you in FRONT of your face and to fellow employees? I decided to just take my food to go. I have never felt so uncomfortable. The lady who was taking my order (she was actually very nice to me) was also the same lady that the owner vented to, she asked me if I really did want to leave, and I did. On top of that, the salmon Benedict I ordered had such a small amount of salmon it barely covered one muffin. To make a long story short, I just wanted to support a local business and was greeted with annoyance and rudeness from the establishment. Awesome mom and pop brunch spot! It's actually run by a mother and her two adult kids and their cousins are the chefs! The food is good and the menu offers more than just the traditional ham, eggs, hashbrown etc...I'm Talking offerings like crab cake Benedict's, corned beef hash, country fried steak, and my favorite a Country style breakfast complete with biscuits and gravy! Beware of sitting outside though, there was a bunch of bees flying around my table which was pretty annoying, but they have no control over that. Okay sooooo. I was very disappointed in the meal. Wife got the chili omelet which was good. I got the smoked salmon scramble and blueberry pancakes with a side of beignets. About the salmon. At first I thought it wasn't even smoked but then decided it was with either smoked in the oven in the kitchen or just a low quality purchased. This was not a thick smoked dark color salmon. It was very pale and more like an over baked in low heat salmon. I did not finish it and sent it to the trash half eaten. Potatoes were good. Now to the most disappointed part. The blueberry pancakes. The blueberries were dried. No as in old over cooked dried but as in trail mix dried. They weren't even mixed into some batter. They just took the batter and put it on the grill and sprinkled dried blueberries on top. You can see the puck marks in the picture. This breakfast place is tucked in a corner of a plaza in Union City. If you enter the main parking lot, where Safeway is, you don't immediately see the sign that's hanging between an alley. The restaurant itself is actually kind of small, so on busy mornings like Saturday/Sunday, expect a wait. I arrived with a group of four and we put our name down. There was one woman in front of us who had a party of 5, but her party wasn't entirely there so we got seated first. Make sure half or more of your party is present or you'll have to watch groups just pass by you! Sadness! We were seated inside, and since it was so hot, they had fans on and it was nice and cool inside but not too chilly. The chairs are also very comfortable. Someone came quickly and offered us coffee and water. The coffee was 1.50, but the mugs were SO small! However, they did come by three times to refill coffee so I suppose it doesn't matter how big the cup is as long as it is continually full. Anyway, after a couple minutes, we ordered. I got the Garden Omelette with no cheese, and i added linguica and subbed my potatoes for a pancake (yeah yeah, i'm complicated). My two other family members got a sausage Benedict and a Krabby Benedict. My boyfriend got the Country Breakfast. We also ordered Beignets. Our food came out within 10-15 minutes which is pretty fast. My Garden Omelette was delicious! The mushrooms absorbed so much of the flavor, and there was a mass amount of spinach and zucchini which is just what I like. The pancake was moist, warm, and chewy. Awesome! My sister got the sausage omelette. I didn't hear any complaints from her, but she didn't say it was super great either. Also, the Krabby Benedict was a little TOO sea-foody for me. My BF cleaned out his entire Country Breakfast. Also said it was "alright," and only ate all of it cause he was starving. Afterwards, our Beignets came. Those were alright as well. There wasn't a lot of powdered sugar, and they tasted mostly really fried to me. My brother really liked it though, so he wolfed down three of them. Overall, I'd come back here again. It's a hidden small jewel on the back side of a strip mall. I went in and didn't had any idea what to expect, but I was happily surprised. The servers were very helpful and fast. I am a breakfast person and my whole day depends on my breakfast. I loved my Krabbycake Benedict with potatoes. A little pricey cost me about $14 without the tip. This is such a cute place. The waiters are so friendly and nice. The decor is super cutesy, with punny frames. We have beigets, krabbycake benedict and corn beef hash benedict. Menu size is pretty good and their poached eggs for their benedicts were made PERFECT! Did I mention their prices are decent for the amount that you get? I mean come on, $2.50 for FIVE beignets that were perfectly fried - you can't beat that! We ordered the corn beef hash benedict, KrabbyCake benedict, and their beignets. My absolute favorite breakfast/brunch spot near home. My boyfriend and I are regulars. When we're too lazy to make breakfast on the weekends, it's our go to spot. Also, we make sure to take anyone who crashes at our house there for breakfast! Our regular meal consists of Country Friend Steak and Hashbrowns for me and Teriyaki Omelet for my boyfriend.We always order a plate of beignets-- a taste of Disneyland away from Disneyland. I ordered the crab cake benedict (came with good poached eggs), my beau ordered the chicken waffles (more like chicken strips). We also tried the beignets (ok, tastes like donut but fresh) Some of the side dishes came back slightly cold but they made a new batch for us. However then it came back a bit raw. Those are ESSENTIAL for a great home fried potatoes recipe, imo. So the side dish was a disappointment. And the eggs in my Benedict were overpoached, so the yolks just were almost cooked completely through. I think that might've been the worst part of the meal. And I wasn't crazy about the hollandaise sauce; it really should be more lemony... especially to off-set the smell of the Spam. Maybe they get it pre-made instead of making it fresh and from scratch. And if you're going to cook Spam, it needs to be REALLY crispy to create a nice balance with what should have been velvety and yolky eggs and the creamy Hollandaise sauce. The Spam wasn't even that warm, which made it fairly inedible. Room temperature Spam is not delicious at all. I brought the leftovers home, opened up the box and got a whiff of them, and then just threw the whole thing in the trash. I didn't even want my dog to have them and run around with Spam breath all day. Yech! Overall, I give this place a solid meh. I make far better breakfasts at home. Came here a few weeks ago with my boyfriend and will not return. My scramble was nothing to write home about and honestly I could have made it myself. Service was a little slow. However, my biggest issue is that my boyfriend got sick from the Asian chicken salad he ordered. Food is so good, but the space is so small and cramped, it's hard for people to get up and get by. Definitely not a good set up for people dining with kids or babies. The wait time is another thing that has been getting on my nerves more each time I return to this place. Tucked behind the UPS Store, Break Your Fast is truly a hidden gem. I was a little nervous just because I was ordering Korean food at an American place, who knows how that could turn out. When my food came out I was a bit surprised, I was expecting my food to be plated a bit more sloppy then appetizing. My friends omelette was the same, it looked so fresh and healthy! Taste wise, I was taken by surprise for sure, my food tasted like something I would order at my usual Korean joint, but half the price and half the distance. The omelette was great too, not greasy or bland. Break and Fast has a different approach to traditional dinner foods and then some exotic ones as well, one that is going to keep me coming back for a long time. I think my favorite part is that they give you the option of rice as a side dish! My brother and I shared the chocolate chip pancake with a side of corn beef hash and potatoes. In addition, we had the beignets which were delicious. Overall, the food was great and the food was delivered extremely fast. (Which is always great for hungry customers like my family and I.) The only concern I have is the seating. The area that they have is so small. If you want to come with a big party, it's very difficult to eat here. They only have about 2 or 3 tables that are fit enough for 5+ people. Before coming hear, I heard from other people that they are known for their beignets so of course that was the first thing I ordered. I came with two other friends and we decided to share two orders of pancakes one was chocolate chip and the other was banana. The serving size was huge! Each order of pancakes came with two really big pieces. The three of us weren't even able to finish two orders. The chocolate pancakes were extremely chocolaty but the banana pancakes could have used a little more banana. To balance out the sweetness we also ordered french fries, bacon, and two scrambled eggs. The waitress accidentally gave our table sausages instead of scrambled eggs, but we were able to get those for free and I would never turn down free food. The best breakfast restaurant in the east bay! Everything is reasonably priced and served in big portions. Their omelettes are 100x better than any omelette you'll get at Dennys, IHOP, or any other chain breakfast place. I have been here a few times with my boyfriend and we've been able to get full off of one omelette and one plate of their famous beignets! We can eat a lot so to get full from sharing one meal is pretty amazing. It ends up only costing us less than $15. The only downside to this place is the wait. They have incredibly friendly workers who do their best to accommodate everyone in a timely manner, but they can only do so much since it's such a popular restaurant and the place itself is so small. My sister and I totally could have shared a meal. I also like that you have the choice to order potatoes or rice! This joint reminds me of my Auntie or Grandma's kitchen back in the Philippines.
