I live in New York and I come to Chicago 3 or 4 times a year. The studio that I work is close to this place. When I'm in Chicago I literally go to the breakfast house everyday. I love the benedict eggs, omelettes, house potatoes... The service is always sweet and they are fast. The price is good, a little bit cheap than other places and the amount of food per order sometimes scary ( in a good way haha) Since I'm very busy when I'm here, I usually skip my lunch so my breakfast needs to be I definitely recommend this place, very convenient and delicious :) read more

Found BH via Yelp and was surprised we didn't have to wait for a table around 11:15 for brunch. Then again, this neighborhood sees less traffic overall. We both went the hash route for brunch. I had the signature "Breakfast House hash" which had Andouille sausage and red peppers, and K tried the chorizo hash. Both of us enjoyed the preparation of the potatoes and flavor combinations. The place is small but I like small spots. Small bar top is nice also. Street parking with easy access, right out front. I had eggs with spinach and cheddar cheese, chicken sausage, potatoes and pancakes. The potatoes well seasons and are really good. The pancakes was really good as well. You the fresh squeezed order juice so refreshing, I had mines mixed with grapefruit. Nice place to eat, next time I'm going to the other location where you have the mimosas. read more

Let's see. How to describe perfection? Crispy is one word. The waffle was crisp perfectly, a Belgian waffle. Tasty and a wonderful, if traditional, accompaniment to the chicken. And the chicken had a crisp, tasty coating--the chicken itself was delicious, perfectly cooked, moist, succulent. Luckily, I had the fried chicken past December which means that my one allotment of fried chicken is back in play for the new yeasr. We put ourselves on the wait list through yelp so that was good, only had to wait another 5-8 minutes to get a table. The server was okay, not very attentive. Although he got better. I ordered two eggs your way, scrambled with veggies and cheese. When i asked the server he said you can add these. But each of them is charged separately. The cheese was minimal in the eggs, almost not there. I can whip up better scrambled eggs at home. So the food was below average. Attaching a picture of the toast i got in the name of wheat toast. THIS IS WHAT PISSED ME OFF. It is the $1 bread you get at a store. Really really bad quality. Can't emphasize this enough. It was toasted also so bad. Broke in a millisecond. Husband got steel cut oats. He said they were fine. We paid $10 just for 2 small glasses of orange juice. Not worth it. We had a party of 25 2 weeks ago. We did have a slight bit of a wait while they got our area ready but that aside I can't recommend this place enough. Service was great and consistent, the vibe was very chill and we were able to be in the back and not hopefully not disturb other guests and the food for every single person was on point which can be rare for parties that large, especially considering the variety of things ordered. I'd strongly considered going back the next day but ended up eating in another part of the city; regardless, if you get a chance, go here. read more

I had a few too many cocktails the night before and was pretty hangry when we arrived and in desperate need of some caffeine. What a cute little bfast place! It was ssllllllloooooow. I felt like I was in the south. Also, it seemed like no one really knew what was going on. Our server seemed hesitant...hard to describe. We got the table in front of us's food. They were trying to get chairs from a back table but lifting them up overhead...I was waiting for them to come crashing down on someone. The food, oh the food was painful. Sad face. Chorizo hash...where'd the chorizo man?! It was two eggs over a shit ton of potatoes with a few little diced peppers and I think a teaspoon of chorizo. It was so sad! Not to mention, no seasoning on eggs or potatoes. Avocado toast...I was debating between chilaquiles and this. Server said do toast....eeek, it was literally avocado sliced on toast with a big helping of spinach on top and two eggs. Again, the lack of flavor on the avocado, eggs, etc was painful. I've never had avocado toast that was this bad. Like a little salt and garlic and you should be good...two thumbs down. This place is so cute! While the name is decidedly American they have a lot of Mexican inspired dishes for sure. My husband got the breakfast burrito and I got the chilaquiles. Both were delicious! We also got a side of sour cream pancakes with chocolate chips on top which was also good. Our server was kind enough to inform us that the chocolate chips would be better on top inside of inside since the pancakes were think. Delicious! We were seated quickly for a Sunday morning and felt the tables were adequately spaced apart so we weren't too close to any other table. I went with the first thing on the menu - the supreme chorizo hash with a side of pancake - and loved it! I've got a heavier hand when it comes to salt but felt this was perfectly seasoned and only added some hot sauce for heat. The pancake was a STAR also - so fluffy, light, and moist. They weren't kidding around when they said their pancakes were the best and served with great, real maple syrup. Servers were friendly and very attentive. The four of us came after attending service at Rivercity Community Church (6min away) a couple days before xmas and loved the food here. I put our names down on the waitlist using yelp and we were able to get seated right away. The service was really good, and they were pretty quick with the food. Portions are quite generous too. I got the two egg breakfast dish (forgot the actual name, but it's the first one on the breakfast menu). The eggs were cooked really nicely, and the yolk oozed out in slow-mo when I cut it in half with my fork. I also got the side of buttermilk pancakes it was truly the fluffiest and tasted amazing even without extra butter of maple syrup. I also had a bite of the steak and was very impressed for how delicious it was, especially for the price. Service was great and everyone was decked out in holiday flair, which I really appreciated. I was wondering why it was rated so highly, especially these breakfast places that offer the same things, I.e. hash, pancakes, Benedict, etc. The above reasons are why. During COVID, they offer dine in and patio outdoor seating. Tables are definitely spread out. All staff wearing masks. We got supreme chorizo hash and chilaquiles. Hubby liked the runny egg that he could break over the hash, the subtle kick of spice of the chorizo, and the aioli that brought all the flavors together. Also, his dish came with pancake (vs toast) on the side - pancake is fluffy and spongy, and the best part is that they give you real maple syrup. We thought we would pick it at it, but we are all the whole pancake even though we were full. I had the chilaquiles - there were scrambled eggs mixed in with the tortilla chips, black bean purée on the bottom of the tortilla chip pile so you can get a bit of it with every bite, very good guacamole on top. I opted for the chorizo (not much of a meat person), sour cream and red sauce on the side. Didn't know what the red sauce was but it was very good and went well with the chilaquiles. It is a tomato-based, creamy sauce with a hint of heat. I ended up pouring it all over my dish. Myself or my mini self love Breakfast House. I apologize to the owner and the amazing staff for how late this review is. Of all the breakfast places in Chicago (dang we have so many) I have been a "regular" at Breakfast House. I can't even count how many times I've eaten here (though not for lunch...yet). The breakfast house hash and the supreme chorizo hash are my favorite, go to items each time. Family friendly and with a large kids menu. The staff even drops off a coloring sheet and crayons for the little people. This restaurant reminds me of my grandma's house! It's warm and cozy, makes you feel at ease. This is a small space, but they really make it work. Parking was easy to find, we can in and got seated right away. Very friendly staff and hearty breakfast offerings. They do have a handful of healthier options too. I ordered a Mexican omelette with pancakes and my husband got steak and eggs. The food was like a delicious breakfast made by mom, not as creative or innovative as some other fancier places, but sometimes a traditional well made home cooked meal is exactly what you want. The BYOB is definitely a plus. Really enjoyed my experience here, the only thing keeping it from a five star is that the bathroom could be a little cleaner. Also got strawberry pancakes on the side. Possibly best pancakes I've ever had - favorite in Chicago so far for sure. My dad completely agreed (and he's a hard food critic). It looks kind of dingy outside and it's hidden on a little corner in an emptier side of the city, but once you walk inside you're greeted with a really casual environment that has a great homey feel. The wait can get long on the weekends but we can usually snag a counter seat pretty quickly. My go-to is the basic eggs with sausage but the breakfast burrito is amazing.
