Food at the Breakfast House is AMAZING! It's their lack of customer service that always brings them down. I highly enjoyed ordering delivery and not dealing with the waitstaff during covid. Several years ago, my +1 and I sat at the counter. They were slammed so we didn't push much to get refills on drinks or inquire about our order. But when we saw customers that arrived after us leaving, something was wrong. We were at the counter! Right in front of the waitstaff. And our order was never put thru to the kitchen. I never returned. As mentioned, I ordered delivery often during covid. So once restaurant capacity was relaxed, I gave them another try. Really???!!! Again? We were seated and had our meal. Then placed an order to go. Well you know it. The waitress remembered to charge me, but didn't put the order thru. Waited nearly 30 additional minutes. I'll stick to delivery. read more

Disclaimer: Considering that this place is called "The Breakfast House", I probably should have ordered breakfast food rather than lunch food, but I went at 1:00pm, so I stand by my choice. I would give a 3-star rating solely for the Chicken Caesar Salad I ordered. I had a craving for it. Otherwise, I would have ordered something else. I hope to come back again to review their other dishes! I was disappointed by the presentation of the salad. There weren't many croutons and the parmesan was unevenly distributed. The chicken had some good pieces but also some fatty pieces. It was grilled and overly charred. It did satisfy my craving though. I tried my boyfriend's turkey sandwich, which is well worth your money's worth. There were giant slabs of turkey and provolone along with lettuce and tomatoes. The fries that came on the side are pretty good, but also pretty standard. I love that they offer Intelligentsia coffee, one of my favorite brands of coffee. I got an iced mocha, which was quite good - a perfect balance of espresso and chocolate flavors. We came here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. It was busy but we were seated right away. They have us our menus and water right away. The service was amazing and they were all very friendly and accommodating. They offered us a high chair as well. The food we ordered came quickly!! It was hot and very delicious. I had the original Benedict. It came with potatoes. The eggs were perfect and the potatoes delicious. My husband got the chilaquiles and they were amazing!! Breakfast House was stop #1 for a friend and me when we had a big day planned, consisting of power shopping and then some power hitting in volleyball. I can't say this meal helped with the shopping at all, but my athletic ability was greatly enhanced that day and I would like to attribute it to the magic hash I consumed. For starters, $2.50 for unlimited intelligentsia coffee is already a win. My dining companion had the cornmeal cakes, while I had the breakfast house hash, and we were both very pleased with our meals. The portions aren't outrageous like some other brunch places, but just the right amount so you can lick your plate clean and not feel like a total cow afterwards. The service was a little slow, but given that it's a small spot and they're already very busy at 9am, you really can't dock them too many points. My food came out quickly. Almost too quick. The food looked very good. So good I memoralized the moment and posted a pic. I started eating the chicken. I picked apart the breast and it was cold and undercooked. I told my waitress and she took care if it quickly and brought me out a fresh waffle and bacon. If I could leave 0 stars I would.. wait time was 30 mins (which was not a problem) after being seated it took our server, Fernando, 30 minutes (not exaggerating) to take our order. Went to Breakfast House on a Sunday morning with my husband and our friends. It was pretty crowded, but luckily the wait was only about 15 minutes. They take your phone number which is nice, so you can wait in your car if you want. The place is pretty small and there isn't much room to stand at the front. We finally got our call and our tummys were very excited! As you walk in, there is a front room and a back room. We were seated towards the back which is a nice area and isn't as loud as the front. The menu has a good amount of options, but isn't overwhelming! I did find a few things I wanted to try and finally made a decision! I went with the supreme chorizo hash which had their house potatoes, eggs, peppers, onions, corn, chorizo, guacamole, and a chipotle aioli. Now, most breakfast places have a chorizo skillet or something along those lines. I have to say that this is the BEST I have ever had! The chorizo was perfection! It wasn't greasy! There wasn't a layer of oil at the bottom of my plate, which was awesome! :) The potatoes were cooked and seasoned perfectly! The proportion of all items were perfect! I can taste it now! :) On the side, I ordered a short stack of banana pancakes. Oh my...they were so light and fluffy!!! I shared them with my husband and I secretly wish I ordered them just for myself. I guess it's not a secret anymore...lol! I washed it all down with sips of Intelligentsia coffee. My husband ordered the breakfast burrito and I believe he enjoyed it. I was a bit consumed by my meal to really ask him...haha. The chorizo and mash (which I and 2 others got) was also done to perfection. Across the table was a vanilla waffle with fresh fruit and was complimented "the best waffle I've ever had". Very humble and low key storefront. Looks like your run of the mill neighborhood breakfast place from the outside. The inside is very nicely decorated for a breakfast place. There is a little upscale feel to the place. The food was good. Simple but done well. I had the egg white frittata and it was a lot of food. The frittata was cooked nicely and was not greasy. My friend had the huervos rancheros and she finished everything and said it was tasty, the right amount of food and not heavy in the stomach. I took off a star due to the waiter. He forgot about my juice order and also was kinda rude with their "no substitutions" policy. I had asked if I could get something other than pancakes or toast since those came with my dish. He looked annoyed and said something like, the food is the food, can't change anything, it is what is is. This might be the second worst breakfast I've had in my life. We ordered a simple eggs and bacon with oatmeal and then chicken and waffles. Everything was wrong with the food and I don't know how they ever got to a high rating. There are hundreds of far far better breakfast places in Chicago and I would never eat from this one again. I had read these were supposed to be some of the best chicken and waffles in Chicago, yet they were hands down the worst I've had anywhere. The chicken was like grocery store quality fried chicken with a spice blend that reminded me of carnival food. The waffles tasted so generic and just sugary, I might as well have gotten them from a continental breakfast at the Holiday Inn. Overall beyond disappointing. Especially since the chicken isn't boneless and I'm not interested in putting that much effort into breakfast. It's breakfast, I'm tired. The eggs and bacon didn't even come with bacon, they gave us sausage. The potatoes we asked to go with it were mushy. The eggs were supposed to be over easy but the eggs came with almost no yolk as they had obviously been broken at some point in their journey. The sausage was sadly the only good part of the meal. That leaves us with the "steel cut oatmeal". That's in quotes because it was absolutely not steel cut. It was like cheap just add hot water bottom dollar oatmeal that looked more like grits than it did oatmeal. It tasted like it had gone bad and the apples that came with it I'm pretty sure came out of a can. I'm not sure if it was just a bad day, wrong time, or this restaurant is just garbage with reviewers who instantly forgot that there is other food in the world that is drastically better.
