Was looking for ward to having breakfast here last Sunday. Very cute place and decent sized. Good location and plenty of parking nearby. However, we sat at the bar for 15minutes while waiting for our table and the staff did not once look at us, offer a menu, and did not offer drinks. Then the hostess comes to our party and says she has a table available but that the party after us would get it because they had an elderly person with them. Oh! Wow. Nothing against the elderly but I did not know that was valid to get a table faster than others! The food was just OK and. We sat directly in front of the entry door so every time someone came in, the gust of cold air would get us and of course making our food and drinks cold. Not a great experience. I started going to Breakfast House after Ina's closed, and ever since it has become one of my go-to lunch spots on weekdays and brunch spots on the weekend. The staff is very friendly and attentive, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the food is always fresh and high quality. Basically everything you want in "regular spot." Also, because it's a little off-the-beaten-path, it's usually not hard to get a table. This isn't always true during brunch, but even then it's not bad. My quest for amazing Huevos Rancheros is what brought me here. And while I don't claim to be a connoisseur, they are the best I've had. Fresh, simple, and when you add Chorizo, extra delicious. I'm also a fan of their steak and eggs. The meat is always cooked right and tastes great. With it they give you some mushrooms that have really good flavor. With both, I usually get a fresh orange juice. This may seem dumb, but if you really like fresh orange juice and get it at restaurants you know it's something places can actually screw up. Somehow. Breakfast House does not. It's usually chilled and tastes like fresh orange juice should (i.e. like real oranges). Those two dishes make up 90% of my visits, but I've also tried the fried chicken and waffles, croissant sandwich (which is huge), goat cheese salad, turkey sandwich, pulled pork, and hamburger. All of which were great. One last standout is their coleslaw. It has green apples in it which give is a little sweetness to balance out the creaminess, and some added crunch. It's by far my favorite coleslaw... I've even gone in just to buy a big bowl to go. That. Good. I could go on, but basically it's a solid spot that more people should go to (which I say in the hopes that they'll bring back their dinner menu). read more

OMG! Try the AMAZING chilaquiles for breakfast!! Some of the best chilaquiles I've ever had! There was plenty of sauce, beans, and cheese...but the best part was the chips. They were still crispy enough that you got a little crunch in every bite. My husband got the huevos rancheros and he loved them. Said everything was just right, except the spice level...but that's why there was hot sauce available. We arrived around 9:30am on a Sunday and the place was already packed but since there were only 2 of us, we were seated immediately. The service was very good - our drink order was taken almost the instant we sat down and our food order shortly after. The food arrived quickly and while still hot. Greetings & Salutations, This is actually my first official yelp review. I have wanted to do it a few times but I promised the very nice young ladies from this establishment that I would. My lady friend and I stumbled upon this place while we were hanging out on the north side of Chicago. We actually sat down at another restaurant and left there because we didn't really like the choices on the menu. Well, I'm very happy to say that the Breakfast House was exactly what we were looking for that day. They had a very decent variety of breakfast options, attentive & great customer service, and quality yet delicious food. We both enjoyed our meals. The pancakes were really good and because i'm a non-pork or beef eater, I loved the other "meat" options. This place feels like "Cheers,' a place where everybody knows your name. I would give it five stars but I wasn't blown away by the food but it is damn good! I highly recommend the Breakfast House. Visited this place a few days back, have gone past way to many times now that I have been there. The exterior is very deceiving, looks like your average little corner hole in the wall restaurant that you would not give a second thought as I have done! Once inside complete change. The food was very good and tasted fresh. I ordered the 3 egg omelette and a meat sampler. With the meat sampler, you can choose 3 different kinds of meat. I had 2 strips of bacon, 2 sausage links, and a few slices of their andouille sausage. Andouille sausage was pretty spicy and tasty. My husband and I took my mom out for breakfast. The place is very cute but also small. They greeted us right away and we really did not wait at all for a table. Remember it is tight quarters as our table was in a side wall and behind my mom was the other table which if that person wanted to sit my mom had to move so they could get in. My mom is only 4"8 and 92 lbs. But with that being said we where waited on quickly. She got the pancakes with strawberries and hubby got eggs and hash browns and I got an omelet. Their pancakes are so light and fluffy and so soft! You can literally eat them plain they are so stinking good! Husband liked his eggs and hash-browns. I was not fond of my omelet though. I had spinach chicken sausage mushrooms and cheese. All those items was just placed in the middle of a egg omelet and into incorporated into the omelet like I am used to. I did not like that. So the food here is actually decent. Nothing special as far as breakfast goes, but it's fine. My friends had the vanilla waffle and two eggs over medium respectively, and each enjoyed their meal. Otherwise, our visit was a f%&$^*# trainwreck! There's no apparent way to be seated- you sort of walk in, and nobody comes to ask if you'd like to be seated, where you'd like to be seated, etc. Finally, we chose to sit outside. Terrible decision. They also have these awkward fence things around the outdoor seating which make pouring coffee pretty difficult. Our waitress spilled on my friend while doing this. The server was also pretty negligent of our table, so that component of the meal was just overall pretty bad. The worst thing has to do with the check, however. We got the bill, gave the server our credit cards, and she came back and the bill was $15 more than what had been listed. They acted like they had no idea what the problem was, and then, after about 5 minutes or so, realized that they had divided the total of our bill by two and then multiplied by three. It was just frustrating. I'd say this place needs to step up its game. Like so many other places in Chicago that aren't located in more affluent, frequently visited parts of town (Loop, Lincoln Park, Old Town, etc) the business practices here were just pretty shoddy. read more

Great place for breakfast, brunch, or even lunch. Went with a party of about 5 people and they seated us pretty quickly. They don't have a huge amount of space so I would be careful if you have a party bigger than 4 and call ahead before hand. Everything we ordered looked amazing and tasted quite good.
