Perfect place to go before a padres game! I sent on a Sunday about 2 hours before the game and it was a perfect choice. The prices are pretty reasonable, but I wish they had more seating. You order first and then go find a table which I liked. The food comes out relatively fast and it was really good. The burrito was big and full of meat. I was also pleasantly surprised by how good the salsa was. I definitely recommend if you are looking for a quick bite by the stadium. read more

This place is okay. You won't starve, but it doesn't live up to the hype. I ordered two eggs any style with hash browns and meat. The meat was soggy, slightly burned, and very oily. We don't eat bread, so we asked to substitute it with pancakes. They charged $3 for what looked like a very small pancake. We also ordered a burrito. The menu made it sound fancy, but it wasn't. It was mostly eggs, with very little avocado and chicken--you could barely see them. The coffee tasted burnt. One or two issues would be fine, but with everything combined, it feels like the food quality is just not there. read more

Came here randomly on a Sunday looking for a breakfast spot and happened to come across Lucky's. To an even bigger surprise, kids eat for free on Sundays (with purchase). Kids breakfast was one huge pancake and eggs with diced bacon. My kids really enjoyed their meals. I ordered the two eggs any style, hash browns, two strips of bacon, toast and endless coffee. Food was great and if you don't like diner food then don't come here. Diner food is in its own genre for a reason, you get what you get. I'll be coming back here. The counter personnel were extremely friendly and took my order and gave me a number and I sat at the lunch counter and what I ordered was a ham and cheese omelette with home fries and toast and it came out fairly quick and it was very hot. it looked really good I also got a freshly squeezed, large orange juice, which was perfect. The decor site has various pictures of the San Diego area somewhat on historical side, which is really neat to look at . If you're in the area near the convention center it's only a few blocks up. We had this place during comic con 2024 and had a pleasant experience so we wanted to try it out again this year. Our friends raved about it but after this years' experience we won't be back. I ordered the French dip sandwich which came with fries. It was pretty expensive for the lack of meat that we received. Service was horrendous as we waited for over an hour after checking on it multiple times and asking for a refund towards the hour mark. According to the lady the first time, they lost our order. I'm assuming they gave it to someone else. We were standing watching them give food to so many people before us. Once they finally realized our meal was not coming out they "rushed" a new order and we still stood there for about another thirty minutes when nothing still came out. That's when we asked for a refund. The sandwich should not have taken as long as it did... you can see my photo for reference... just a few pieces of meat & cheese slapped between bread. I guess the go to is Chicken Fried Steak but I wasn't told this until after I ordered. I got biscuits and gravy and boy I tell you it was good. The gravy is real and it's rich. Unique biscuits to not like a fluffy flaky buttermilk but it was soft and soaked up the gravy perfectly. It also came with sausage and we sat outside which was nice for an early breakfast before downtown starts buzzing. My Padre seat mate introduced me to Lucky's before a Wednesday day game. We've decided to take advantage of being retired and use our day game tickets more often and attend games together. He said he had a "place", and he never gets to go because it's only open for breakfast and lunch. So we went. What a great find! We were early enough there was only one group ahead of us so we thought we're going to eating in no time. Wrong! Seating is somewhat limited but found someone leaving a shaded table outside. Great! I'll hold the table he'll wait inside for food. Thirty minutes later he came back with food. There was one order customer in front of us. Turns out, at least for the time we were there, the online orders are plenty and if you're standing there with cash in hand. Tough luck. However!! My burger was GREAT! It was big and filling, hot, well dressed and accessorized with plenty of lettuce and tomato's. My Cole slaw was good and I was definitely full when I was done! The staff was very friendly and VERY efficient and checked every order before handing it to the customer. I will definitely go back. BUT ..... I just might order ahead next time! I think it's time for this tradition to die and it breaks my heart. For the last 12 years, I've made it a point to eat at Lucky's during Comic-Con and this year and last it just hasn't hit the mark. The breakfast burrito has lost it's flavor. Seriously, there's no flavor. My fiance ordered a BLT this past time (cause he's over the burrito) and there was no mayo on it. It took forever to get someone's attention just for a packet of mayo. I understand they get busy during comic-con and have made the menu smaller for the week. This just started happening the last few years and every year it's getting more and more strict. I couldn't even get sour cream this year. It's almost like condiments are an inconvenience now. This place has been a favorite for locals and tourists in the Gaslamp area. It is usually fairly busy, timing was just right today as I walked by on my way to the Padres game. Was able to walk right in and got a seat and the counter. This is a small location that definitely brings back nostalgic vibes. Inside, there are counters reminiscent of diners, on the sidewalk there were a few tables available for larger sizes. Loved the customer of the month wall! I ordered the Crab Benedict, it was good! Chose the jalapeño patty melt, and was a bit disappointed. Took quite awhile to get it(my wife's sandwich was delivered 5 minutes earlier) and it was overcooked. I tried to eat it, but decided I didn't want to settle on my first visit. The second one they brought me was marginally better, and took almost 15 minutes to receive. My wife had a good Reuben sandwich here yesterday, so we came back today for sandwiches for lunch: a "lightly toasted" pastrami sandwich and the chipotle chicken sandwich. We ordered remotely to skip the wait. Be advised, if you order a "lightly toasted" sandwich without also picking "hot" you will get a completely cold sandwich without almost no evidence of toasting. Crispy and buttery bread with a flat top grilled chicken breast that was seasoned well and had all my favorite toppings like lettuce, tomato and onion. Mixed Experience I decided to try Luckys Lunch Counter since it's right next to my gym and I was in the mood for something new. The space has a nostalgic, old-school vibe. I went with the cheeseburger combo, which includes fries and separate for drink. The drink is an additional $4, but they do allow free refills-which is a nice. My total came to $22.35, and honestly, it felt a bit steep for what I got. Unfortunately, the first burger they served was pink inside, even though l asked for it well done. The staff was good about replacing it, and the second one was cooked properly. Flavor-wise, though, both the burger and fries were pretty underwhelming-nothing that really stood out. I might stop by again to give the turkey sandwich a shot, but based on this visit, the overall experience didn't leave a strong impression. read more

I highly recommend the Reuben Sandwich ($15.50) from Lucky's! Their pastrami is the absolute best! The meat is perfectly flavored and just the right thickness, it is not paper thin like most places. I also love their sauerkraut, it compliments the entire sandwich so well! I did pay extra for grilled jalapenos ($1) and added fresh tomatoes for free. I recommend the grilled jalapenos and forgo the fresh tomatoes. I also recommend getting the sandwich grilled because they do it really well here. This sandwich was enough to share with another person and it comes with a free side so I think that the price is justified. There is parking right at 6th and K Parkade garage, but you have to pay and they do not validate. We drove downtown to go to a 1pm Padres game at Petco Park and we were about an hour early. I didn't really want to go inside the park to pay 400% markups on beer and hot dogs and there are plenty of restaurants in downtown so we went to one of the closest ones: Lucky's. It was amazing to me there were a couple of empty tables outside, completely shaded. We grabbed one and went to the counter to order. There is no server or host. You order at the counter and they'll give you a number for your table when the food comes. We ordered a couple of beers (two Salty Crew Blonde Ales - which were great), the big 1/2lb cheeseburger ($16.75), a french dip (also $16.75) and a Coke ($5). Total was $54 before tax/tip. $54 won't go very far in the ballpark, so coming here was a great idea. The burger was massive (1/2lb!) and the french dip included the au jus. Both were very good. Fries were tasty too. They even brought the food out to us in to-go containers, which was very handy! Overall this place gets a thumbs up and we may stop in here again for future games. read more

Found this joint walking my dog early morning and tried their hotdog & fries. Well I had starbucks coffee and sandwich in my hand, but their deco and classic diner ambiance stopped me to try this place. Pros: Hotdog was so juicy and delicious! One of the best ones I've tried. Cons: trucks go by alot, loud, and sometimes disturbing. Perhpas this was because I set outside.
