I grew up in the area and was very well impressed with the changes (much needed) changes in the whole place. Well done. The hummus was excellent but not enough Pitas/veggies to serve with the amount of hummus. This was the only food item I ordered I was just catching up with a friend. But everything else i saw around looked amazing. Only missing a star because my friend ordered a double as his first drink , but never asked for a second double although they continued (to serve) well at least definitely charge him for doubles. As a former bartender I know you should be careful about this for many reasons. Also for the last drink I decided to order a drink off their "new drink " menu. (I believe it was new anyways). The drink was awful and I couldn't drink it. Went there for brunch today and the service was horrible therefore the one star review. The food is good so if you don't mind bad service this is the place for you. There were three people in our party...shortly after being seated at our table we each ordered coffee and a cocktail...the water and coffee was served immediately however it took over 20 minutes to receive our cocktails and when we finally receive them you could tell they had been sitting for quite a while because the ice in the drink had melted resulting in a water downed drink...trying to get a second cup of coffee from our waitress was also impossible after requesting coffee numerous times we had to finally flag down the hostess and ask her for some coffee...when these issues were brought to our waitress attention her response was oh well sorry...having bad service is one thing...having bad service with an attitude is not acceptable. read more

This place opened a little over a year ago and has become a local favorite for my family. The food is amazing and the chef makes every effort to use local agriculture. Visited again. This time my wife had the Cajun blue crab pasta and I had the shrimp and grits. Much better than the first visit. I sampled her crab dish - this time it had a nice kick to it. My grits were a tad undercooked but the dish overall was good nonetheless. Nice sized portions too. My wife also had a beet salad as a starter. A culinary delight! Had the seared scallops and Wild Mushroom flatbread for starters and the spinach cream sauce on the scallops was wonderful. My main course was the Cajun blue crab crab pasta - delicious! Finished off with blueberry compote (with cinnamon vanilla ice cream), and washed down with a Brandy Alexander. Great meal and the service was excellent, and a very knowledgeable waiter. "Awful quality for the price and service." To be honest, the quality is not horrible, its just way too expensive considering the lack of quality and location! If your going to charge $22- $50 a plate in a BAR/TAVERN, you better be close to perfect every night...$15 for a sandwich? The owner must have forgotten his location which is across the street from a TRUCK STOP and not on MT Washington. Our Pastrami Burger was SALTY...Now I love salt but this was beyond consumption...Like take a bite, Im going to get sick, spit it out salty..Absolutely no reason to serve old a burgher like that, for $15, we could have gone to the best place in in the area! You cant keep ground meat that was sitting in spices and salt too long and if your trying to pass this off to your customers, what else are you passing along? Throw it away and prep another batch. Also, the Sesame & Chia Seed Seared Tuna was average...On the dry side and freezer burned tasting. Not worth eating at $27!...The service was also fair..We had to ask repeatedly for more table water and our waiter was seldom visible. Stopped in after a round of golf nearby. What a find! Very friendly staff and best of all...great food and drinks! Try the pork belly sliders and stuffed banana peppers. Tons of fresh flavors and the right amount of heat. The appetizer menu alone can make for a great lunch. Very wide selection of beers and cocktails. Went back after our second round for more! Had dinner there this evening for my girlfriend's birthday. Heard good things about the place so she wanted to try it. Literally average at best. Mussels as an appetizer and there were at least 10 empty shells. Very overpriced. The waitress accidentally dropped ketchup on my girlfriends daughters body and head and clothes. True story. Some food was alright. Other food was not. This place is trying to compete with the amazing pittsburgh food scene and it's not working . The main issue was the waitress. My friends steak was obviously overcooked for medium rare. The waitress took it back to have a new one cooked. When the waitress returned, she let my friend know the steak that was returned was cooked perfectly medium rare and that say friend needed to order her steaks rare next time. Basically telling my friend, your the wrong one and we were right. So the new steak arrived well undercooked for medium rare. My friend ended up not eating. The problem is this, do not argue with a customer or make unnecessary statements that make a cuatomer uncolfortable, It makes you look terrible as a server. read more

Having never been to "Uncle Bob's", I think I am a more objective reviewer, and I can honestly say we loved our experience here. We had reservations for Saturday, and the hostesses who greeted us were very friendly. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, and the beer selection was really good. For our meal, we ordered the Brussels sprouts and fish tacos. Both were delicious! At our table, we had the pastrami burger, shrimp and grits, and beet salad with salmon. Every bite was eaten, and we all can't wait to come back. read more

Having been in the food business for 30+ years i think i am qualified to write a comprehensive review. also i tended bar at good ol uncle bobs for many years,,starting from the day they opened, back in the mid 80's. the decor is very nicely done in an industrial chic style, the place is clean with interesting touches everywhere you look. i was greeted with a smile from the friendly hostess and promptly seated,,,i was dining alone [as usual, wah!] my server Kris approached the table right away and i told her it was my first visit,,,she went over a few menu items and suggested the crab cake sandwich with the fried green tomato...an excellent choice thank you!! lots of crab and not much filler,,,i never had a fried tomato before and i could eat a whole basket of them,,,,Kris was attentive and i didnt want for anything. she also suggested a chocolate cake dessert thing which i dont recall the name but it was delish!!! all in all a very positive experience. i wish it was closer to my world,,so i could eat there more often!! Stopped there tonight on my way to a business appointment. It was recommended by my business customer. My wife, who is picky about trying new places was along. We were blown away by the food. Grilled Brussels sprouts was new to us and sounded good. It was wonderful as were the Reuben and fries. 70 minutes from home, but we will be back. read more

I would definitely recommend Breakneck Tavern for any catering needs! I recently had them cater a Baby Shower and the food and presentation was outstanding! Everyone commented about all the food being delicious. The artisan sandwiches, hand made potato chips, roasted tomato salsa with tortilla chips, pasta with sun dried tomatoes and chicken, and those wonderful home made dill pickle spears, and of course the wonderful side salads!! Wow - really disappointing. I had heard so much about this place and was really looking forward to trying it. First off, nice interior, I like how they decorated. The menu?!?! Yuck! Seriously, I was trying to find an appetizer that would appeal to me and a group of people and except for bruschetta and crab dip, everything was just too odd. Then the rest of the menu was the same an so expensive! Seriously, have a few experimental dishes on the menu, but make sure there are several standards as well. And never put peas in Mac N Cheese - seriously! I didn't want to drop a ton of $$ that night, so I just had the $14 Reuben with a side of Mushroom Risotto (yum, sounded really good). The Reuben has some odd smokey flavor added to it and was so slathered with butter I only ate half. The Risotto was bland with tough mushrooms - very disappointing. As for the service, we sat outside on a nice sunny evening, but our waitress tended to forget about us - she didn't come out much - she was pleasant when she did come, but....meh. This bar was the absolute worst bar I have ever been too. Our server took our IDs as we ordered our drinks, our server lost my ID and never brought our drinks and when we asked the owner if we could get our drinks the server returned and told us we never ordered any. After bringing over 2 out of 4 drinks the owner returned and accused me of jumping around in the bathroom even though I hadn't gotten up since we arrived. The owner then told us that we are clearly intoxicated and that we were in the wrong place and it would be best for us to leave. NOT ONE PERSON AT MY TABLE HAD EVEN SIPPED THEIR DRINK YET. I'm not sure what was taking our server such a long time she had two tables and the resteruant was almost empty. I had such a bad experience at this establishment that I took the time to make a yelp account to post this review. There is no way that I will ever return. I was just looking to have a nice birthday dinner with my friends and have never ever been treated so poorly at a restaurant. I highly recommend going to Applebee's instead as we did after our horrible experience, their steak was wonderful and their service was great. read more

We went there recently. The decor is absolutely beautiful - industrial chic. A very pleasant place to eat. I'm routing for this place, but they need to make some changes. The food was average at best. The chef was heavy handed with salt and I'm a salt lover. I got the crab cake sandwich with a fried green tomato and a bit of a white sauce and arugula. The fried green tomato batter was so salty, I had to take it off the sandwich. I had been so looking forward to that tomato. I chose a side salad instead of fries. It was a nice size and beautiful lettuce and tomatoes. Their dressings are homemade. I got the balsamic vinaigrette. It would have been a delicious dressing, but it was very salty! I had already poured it all over my salad. When I got home, I looked up reviews and saw that other people had salt issues. I never finished my salad because of that and I normally inhale salads. We both got the soup of the day which was chicken noodle. I liked it - it was loaded with carrots and tender chicken, but they seasoned it with sage and I felt it was a bit too much sage. Nevertheless, I finished it. My husband got the Cobb salad. We've had delicious Cobb salads at various restaurants. The point of a Cobb salad is all the added goodies. His salad was only $8.00, but please - add a buck or two and make it a real Cobb salad. His was primarily lettuce, two cherry tomatoes that were halved, some onion, a minuscule amount of egg (as if they had divided an egg among five different salads), about a teaspoon of bacon bits. There was no cheese, no meat. The salad was the type where everything was mixed on the plate (as opposed to places where you get the add-on's in a divided dish. That would be okay if they put decent amounts of the add-on items with the lettuce. He was so disappointed. My coffee was stale. It's not really close to us, so we probably won't go back, at least not for a while. I do wish them well. The menu was interesting, they just need to up their game as far as how the food is prepared. Oh - my husband didn't get rolls, crackers or anything with his salad. Someone at our table ordered the pumpkin cheesecake which was delicious. l read more

Left dirty soup bowls on the table after numerous trips walking by the table. Just as we were getting ready to leave the restaurant and pay for only what had been served so far, the hostess brought our salads, because our server was no where to be found. When I commented that it took 45 minutes for salads, the server appeared and then apologized and blamed it on a party of 40 causing the kitchen to back up. That's fine and dandy but the appropriate reaction should have been her telling us ahead of time that the kitchen was backed up, apologize for the delay and offer another round of wine. ummm, they didn't offer anything. And, really, how busy is your kitchen that you can't walk down a salad prep line and grab what you need in a matter of minutes. Do not go for Brunch. We have been there previously for dinner and drinks and had a good experience. We went to brunch for my birthday and they were completely incompetent. We made the reservation and specified we needed a high chair. When we arrived I reminded them of this with our reservation and they told us they didn't have any left. They offered a booster seat. I have a 16 month old so a booster seat would not help. My wife and I ended up holding her for the first 45 minutes we were there until a high chair became available. Our food did not come out until 75 minutes after we sat down. There was a larger party in he back being catered to and it was obvious the kitchen and management did not know how to accommodate both a party and their regular guests. Other tables beside us waited as long and even longer for their food. The manager came over eventually and apologized and we were expecting them to offer comping part of the meal as a result of reserving the high chair and not having one and the excessive wait. Instead, she blamed the hostess and told us she would have a long talk with her later. Nice accountability and leadership. When we finally got the bill after having to ask for it after being finished with our meal a good 15 minutes they had added drinks to our check we didn't order. So on top of not offering to comp anything they actually added drinks to our tab. We will not be back and this place is a mess for brunch. Do not go. read more

I have never complained about a restaurant before, but I would like to bring to someone's attention how we were treated yesterday when we arrived at the Breakneck Tavern. My mother is visiting from NC and we had tried to eat at the Breakneck Tavern before and the wait was a bit long and we ended up at Table 86. We were out and about yesterday and decided to give it another try because it was around 2:50pm and figured it wouldn't be crowded. We walked through the door only to be glared at by the hostess. She didn't greet us with a good afternoon or how are you today. She said, do you have reservations? I replied no, to which she replied...let me see what we have available because we are in between clearing tables from brunch to dinner. I looked around and there were literally people at 3 tables. Wow! She said follow me and placed the menus on the table and then walked away. Very unprofessional and rude! We should have left at that point, but had been wanting to try the food. Our waitress, Denise was wonderful! I can honestly say that we loved the food, but because of the way this hostess treated us, we may never be back. It's a shame to have been treated that way and my mother commented that maybe if we were driving a 2016 Mercedes instead of a 2016 Sante Fe that we would have been treated better. read more
