Most beer fans in Portland know that Breakside's beers are pretty unbeatable. I went here with a large group on the first Saturday night that the restaurant was open and I knew there was going to be a long wait. We went upstairs and got beers and appetizers - the pretzel was so good and definitely big enough to share with a group. The bartenders up stairs were really nice, quick, and accommodating. My Caesar Salad was a little disappointing, but I don't think Caesar Salad's are the chef's focus here - from looking at other tables, the fried chicken platters seemed to be the hot item at this restaurant. But overall, all the workers were so nice, the beers were great, pretzel was great, and I thought that they worked really smoothly considering it was only their first weekend open. Great service and awesome food and drinks. The buffalo wings were tasty and arrived quickly and hot. I wish there was more garnish but not a deal breaker. I had the portland hop cider and the grapefruit Margarita which was well balanced and I could taste a hint of the booze which is always nice. Everything was priced reasonable and the outdoor patio was awesome on the first super sunny day of the year and is DOG FRIENDLY!!!! read more

Fun and lively brewery restaurant. We just stopped by for some beers, as we had just ate elsewhere. Cool and modern design, dual level restaurant, we sat at the upstairs bar. Beers were good for what they had. I like to see more of a variety, they had a lot of different IPA's and hoppy style beers. I understand that it's the fad right now, but it's nice to see other styles as well. The beers I did try were great, just wanted more variety. I love Breakside on Dekum. The food is always good and the service is excellent. I went to the NW location last night and ordered the Caesar salad. The dressing was too salty and the salad was tiny. It was 9 dollars and was in a small shallow bowl. My friend ordered the quinoa vegan bowl-the only vegan item. The squash was undercooked and crunchy. read more

Breakside has a great (huge) selection of beer! There is some beautiful indoor and outdoor patio seating available. The food was underwhelming so if you're going to visit, just come for a drink. They have plenty of tv's if you're hoping to catch a game. read more

Ordered Mac and cheese with chicken for takeout and it tasted great but the chicken was very overcooked. It was too tough and dry to eat. Kind of a bummer considering the price tag plus additional charge for the chicken. Hope this saves someone else the disappointment. read more

Good bar to go to if you don't mind a bitter brew and a dry cold atmosphere (fluorescent lights and high ceilings) . The bad music and patrons are often louder than any speaking voice could you pull off. Good for a quick bite (food is great) and a good beer. But not worth screaming over the crowd and weird setting. I'm basing this on my interaction with only one of the servers though who was very snotty when I asked if we seat ourselves or order at the bar, or...??? and it was like I'd asked her if I could have one of her kidneys. She answered in a very condescending and snotty way, and to be honest if I hadn't been there with my brother, I would have left and went somewhere else. If you're in the business of providing customer service you probably should get used to being asked stupid (from your perspective) questions. This place had all the makings to be a 5 star review but they just fell short of the mark. We came in a little past 5 on a Saturday and the restaurant was pretty full inside and outside. There were two women working at the reception desk who were not especially friendly, they told us the dining area was full but we might want to try the bar seating or check upstairs where it was open seating. They then promptly returned to a conversation with each other. We kept standing there and then asked how long the wait would be and they said around 15 minutes. After a quick discussion my partner went upstairs to check for seating and found a few spots at longer tables that could be communal so we decided to head up there. In the upstairs area there is no table service, you have to walk up to the bar to order and even get your own utensils, napkins, water, etc. which seemed strange for an otherwise nice restaurant. We ordered a beer sampler, there are two pre-picked samplers to choose from which was kind of a bummer because we would have liked to mix and match our own. There were a couple beers that we liked the flavor of-namely the stout and the strawberry sparkler, but all of the beers were served lukewarm which made it hard to tell as not as enjoyable. We ordered the pretzel as a starter and my partner had the Cubano while I had the blackened chicken sandwich. All items were served at the same time which kind of defeats the purpose of an appetizer. The pretzel is giant, I had seen yelp pictures but you just don't realize until you see it in person that it's literally bigger than your head. The pretzel was soft and chewy and the cheese sauce was so good I was mopping it out of the cup to get every last bite! We definitely could have just split an entree after that, though, so much food! My sandwich was great and we both were fans of the curly fries. The woman who delivered our food was super friendly, but she was the only staff person we encountered that actually made us feel welcome. All in all we would probably give this place another chance sometime, but we would wait to sit in the main dining area for sure and hope for colder beer! read more

GET THE PRETZEL! My wife came here and got a couple taster trays for our anniversary. We wanted to get some drinks before dinner and this place was great. Our waiter was awesome, the pretzel was the best I've ever had, and the beers were pretty good too. We sat out front on a picnic table on a warm afternoon and the beers were quite refreshing. They have a wide selection on tap and we really enjoyed a couple of their beers, especially the sours. Inside the restaurant also looked awesome, two stories of sleek new modern architecture filled with beer! But seriously... order the pretzel. read more

Upgraded brews and bar food! Came here after an intense workout with a friend. Yup. I shot all my work to $&#@ because I craved a beer after sweating hard. It was well deserved and Breakside Brewery delivered. Friend and I sat in the bar area upstairs and it was a lowkey restaurant bar vibe where people could come and watch some sports games playing on their big screens. The bartender was super helpful in the selection of beer we chose. We also had the buffalo chicken wrap, curly fries, and nachos. It was fantasmic. Delicious and flavorful. It's a balanced level of greasy - and let's not joke ourselves into being a health nut at a bar. No one is thinking salads are bomb at bars, though this spot may deliver a delicious salad concoction. The beers were good, not great. (We got a flight of their hoppy beer/ipa selection and there wasn't much variance among the six). But we really enjoyed the location - we sat outside. This place is amazing! We travel all over and are always looking for a great brewery. Besides having our favorite brews they also have some awesome food as well. The environment is fun, family friendly (although we've only done grown up time there), relaxed, and the wait staff is great. We live 4 hours away and every time we are in town we make a point to drive over and stop in. I don't think you'll be disappointed, give it a shot. Only downside is parking, you usually have to walk a couple blocks, but it's totally worth it. I'm normally one who is hesitant when I have to find parking but I don't even care when we go here. read more

Breakside always has the best beer (I personally love IPA), delicious food, a dish that works for a vegan(!), and the friendliest staff. You can sit at the bar, on tables or booths downstairs or upstairs which also has its own little bar up there! Or bring your pup and sit outside on the deck or in their standing room area outside on a beautiful day. Not only curt but when I told her the two beer menus, both dated 9/30, were different, she insisted they had all of them except the tapped out ones. Uhh, no. The new Breakside location in NW has immediately, and understandably, become an instant hot-spot. I attribute that mostly to the great patio and cool vibe inside the converted warehouse, as well as the throngs of millennials living around the neighborhood. Breakside beer has always been good and they tend to have a good variety of rotating taps. My wife tends to prefer fruitier, lighter beers and on a recent weekend there were at least three or four options that appealed to her. The food here also tends to be a little better than average for a brewery. The menu is diverse, and though I can't say I'd ever eat lamb bolognese or wild salmon at a beer joint, I appreciate their presence on the menu alongside delicious salads and smaller items like pretzels and jalapeño poppers. Service is always good. Expect to wait if you go on a Friday or Saturday, but the neighborhood is fun to walk around in until your table is ready. read more

Where do I begin. We were sitting outside and had to place our order inside at the bar but was not told that until I went in and asked for service. There was one person at the bar to take several orders. I had to ask someone to come help out. Then I wanted to ask the bartender a question and she told me to wait, at that time a man walked up to ask a question and she answered him right away after just stepping away from me. Watch the sexism. Finally we got all the food except mine. I waited another 13 minutes. it turned out to be inedible. chicken is not supposed to be rubber. they didnt even offer to replace it or take it off my bill-very poor customer service here. So overall it was my first and last time at Breakside. so many places to eat in Portland, why waste money at a place like this! read more

Went there on Saturday for a snack and a beer and loved it so much, we went back for dinner on Sunday. My wife commented that they have the best pretzel she's ever tasted. It's massive! We tried both beer flights so we could check out all the variety. We each discovered several that we love. I thoroughly enjoyed the cubano. One of the best I've ever had. Perfectly proportioned so you can enjoy the layers of flavor. Great bun. My wife's burger was ordered medium well but came out rare. Curly style fries are not our favorite, we both prefer standard fries. Prompt, friendly service with an enjoyable, comfortable atmosphere. Great to enjoy on a nice day since they have plenty of outdoor space and they open the large roll up doors on the front to bring the open air feeling in. The Beer! OMG, we love IPA's and we have found IPA heaven. We sat at the bar on the first floor and the multiple bar tenders were superb! Friendly, all smiles, patient and willing to serve you and make your experience amazing. We went in 30 minutes before closing and were waiting for friends when the bartender told us he couldn't serve us. I had asked for gluten free options and after I asked that he refused to serve us, saying we were too intoxicated. We drove there to meet friends and had not been drinking. I'm not a huge beer nerd but I love cider and bar food. Breakside is killing it on the food front. My elderflower cider was crisp and cool after a long hot hike. It wasn't as sweet as typical ciders which was nice. The pretzel is one of the best I have ever had. First off it was huge and well salted. Secondly it was super fresh and warm. The beer cheese and mustard were great dips. I can't say enough good things. Fresh soft pretzels go so well with a cold beer. After three PM, a few other offerings are available and I jumped at the bacon wrapped fried chicken and waffles. It came as a stack with syrup and had so much flavor. Every bite was delicious. A great sweet savory combo. Elevated bar food is so nice especially when done this well! read more
