On Monday about 4 o'clock I called to check on the status. They told me there would be no one out because I was on the waitlist. Waitlist? Why didn't anyone tell me about a waitlist when I first scheduled the call. I asked where I was on the waitlist and was told I was number 10. They said I would be scheduled if someone canceled their appointment and it was unlikely that anyone would be out within the next week. I understand this business was sold since they originally installed my unit. They might want to revisit their customer service policy.

She said it'll be between one and five. At 4:30 PM on Tuesday. I hadn't received a call so I called to check on the status of the service. I was told at that time that I didn't have an actual appointment, I was on standby. Standby? What the heck is standby? Standby means that if they have a cancellation, they would work through their standby list. After some discussion I found out I was 10th on the list. That probably means I would have Service sometime in July or August. I can't believe that they run a company that wouldn't tell me about standby when I booked the appointment. Why would they ask morning or afternoon if they weren't even sure whether they were going to be here. I am a very dissatisfied customer and found another heating and air conditioning service that will be out here tomorrow.

I wanted to share my experience with Ahrens & Condill HVAC company and specifically with Scott,…read moresince he was my primary contact. I contacted them and talked to Scott about the heat issue in my apartment. I knew exactly what needed to be done, as the maintenance person from my building had already inspected it and told me exactly what repairs need to take place. In my phone conversation with Scott, I explained everything to him in details and sent him pictures. He mentioned that he would still need to come out to inspect my unit before repairs could take place. When I asked him, sure, but could you please do the repair in one visit. He said no, justifying it that that's how it is usually done and I will need to pay $140 just for the first visit. I agreed to it. When he came in he literally spent 10 min at my place because, again, I had told him what needed to be done from the beginning and even sent him what he needed to bring with him. So I literally paid $140 for nothing. We then agreed that he will order necessary parts for the repair and will send his guys to do it. When I asked how much it would cost - he said that it's $150 per hour. So it solely depends on the time it takes to finish the job. I said ok and agreed to it. A week later Scott texted me saying that he received all necessary parts and ready to schedule repair visit. He also added that this work will cost $825. I was shocked with the cost and asked him how did he even come up with this number, since he told me that final cost solely depended on time duration and they only charge per hour, which is $150 per hour. He said that the material is part of the cost. I know for a fact that the material is no more than $100, so I asked him how much is the material. He didn't even bother explaining it and just said that his company works on flat rate pricing and they don't break it down per part and labor. Which was a complete lie and scam because initially he stated that they only charge per hour and that's how final cost gets calculated. Basically he wanted me to pay $826 + $140 (which I had already paid) = $966 for something that should not take more than 1-2 hours and should be around $300-$400 with labor and material. I am being completely transparent about my experience with them and particularly with Scott. Because I want to ensure that no one else gets fooled by them and spend money for nothing. I am also attaching my conversation with Scott in text messages for full transparency. Stay away from this company and from Scott in particular They just want to fool you and overcharge you for nothing. Completely unprofessional and unacceptable in this day and age.

Otherwise, take your business literally anywhere else. To be fair, the field techs (Shane and Joe) were good guys who did their jobs well. But the owner, Greg, is an absolute nightmare to deal with. Here is how my experience went: The $165 Markup: They charged me $425 for an off-the-shelf ecobee smart thermostat. The exact same unit sells at major retailers like Best Buy for $260. I waited two weeks for them to show up--time I easily could have used to buy the unit myself if I knew he was going to tack on a nearly 64% markup for a product in a cardboard box. The Laughable "Egg" Logic: When I texted Greg to question the massive markup, his attempt to defend it was unintentionally hilarious. He actually wrote: "When you go to the grocery store or a restaurant and you order up three eggs and they charge you $10. Do you tell them I could buy a dozen eggs for less than that?" A factory-sealed, mass-produced thermostat is not a cooked meal at a restaurant. Comparing a retail piece of consumer electronics to three scrambled eggs is pure comedy. The Childish Insult: When I called out how ridiculous his "egg" comparison was, Greg threw a total tantrum. Instead of handling a basic billing inquiry like an adult, he dropped all professionalism and texted me: "What a big baby you are." Calling a paying client a "big baby" because they call out an outrageous markup tells you everything you need to know about how Greg runs his business. He doesn't care about repeat clients, reasonable pricing, or basic respect. Save yourself the money and the headache--hire an HVAC company run by an actual professional.
