Let's get something out of the way: just because something is a chain and has multiple locations doesn't mean it is bad. There are plenty of restaurants and businesses who continue to serve excellence even if they no longer become a singular gem that shines. But for some reason, when it's a bakery that has multiple locations and open 24 hours and has an exceptional selection of pastries, sandwiches, breads, and cakes AND still tastes good the next day, you have a unicorn and you better hold on tight. That's what Breka Bakery & Cafe felt like. Walking in, we thought of it as nothing more than a simple cafe with a selection of baked goods. But actually looking at the display of cakes, confections, sandwiches, and bread behind the workers I was way off the mark. The sweet aroma of mocha and coffee lingered in the air. The baking of bread waifs in the atmosphere, almost tickling your nose. And all food on display look like they were props from a food commercial. I got their chicken and basil pesto sandwich and it blew my mind. I ate one half right away and the other two nights later and both times I didn't want to stop eating it. They used a jalapeno cheddar bread where it was only accents to the carb so it never stole the show. The chicken was tender and juicy and the basil was deep and balanced. I wanted to go back to get another sandwich as soon as I ate it. Another highlight for me was their Earl Grey creampuff and their mango mousse. When you read those names I'm sure you have an idea of what it might taste like and let me tell you, it didn't disappoint. The Earl Grey creampuff had a slight citrus taste to it and the cream was fresh and light. The mango mousse tasted like the best mango you've ever eaten and it gave such a nice mouth feel with each spoonful. Even as I write this I'm having flashbacks and wishing I went back to Breka one last time before leaving Vancouver. If there's one thing that'll stay in my mind about Vancouver it'll be how fantastic this place was. For the convenience, flavors, and value I'm going to make sure I make my way back here every time I visit Vancouver from here on out. read more

Walked in understanding that this is a 24/7 all day every day, quick in, quick out kinda place so I don't expect top notch anything. Service? Great! Everyone one working there was friendly and helpful. Food? This is somewhat debatable. For being a fast food, the idea of the French Toast Breakfast Sandwich sounds awesome. The end result was the French toast part was amazing, the sandwich part wasn't as appealing as I hope it was but the thing was it wasn't bad. This bakery was right down the road from our hotel and we visited at least 3 times. I was so glad that they have a variety of sugar free syrups for the coffee, the sf caramel was so good in my Americano. The spinach & yam frittata was so unexpectedly good! And I enjoyed the banoffee tart, the Copenhagen roll, and kuffle. My friends loved the earl gray donut and apple fritter. We also loved the blueberry almond chia pudding, I enjoyed the apricot chicken salad sandwich and lemon shortbread cookie. Everything was worth coming back for. We made a quick stop here to refuel after biking around Stanley Park. It's definitely busy and in a good tourist location. The salted caramel mocha was tasty and nice on a cool day. The best Apple Fritter n Strawberry Bismarck along with my large Chia Tea Latte w/ almond milk n shot. What a way to start off the morning before we go to our cruise. The young lady was very helpful n patient with this tourist helping to make my selection n making change with my Canadian money, I hope the tip was sufficient. First time trying Breka Bakery. They had a lovely selection of baked goods. I decided on a European Cheesecake. They had two varieties, plain and Blueberry. I chose the Blueberry. Initially, the clerk pulled out a cheesecake that was deformed. I politely asked if I could have the other one in the case, and she pulled out the other Cheesecake. As I went to pay for the cheesecake, it's was after I left the bakery that I noticed she had given the deformed cake. Very poor and deceptive customer service. read more
