We bought the Urban Delight deal too. It seemed like a great value since we normally pay other professional tree services about $350 -500 every other year to trim three large trees on our lot. Turns out the Urban Delight deal or other similar deals offered by Brent's Tree Service is somewhat of a smoke and mirrors marketing ploy. They overprice their service, expecting you to pay on average $350 to trim one 2-story tree. The sales person/tree consultant Darryl seemed disgusted that I only wanted to use $225 worth of service, trying to convince me that those prices were on par with their level of "expertise, schooling/education and background" in tree service. "Anyone with a chainsaw can trim a tree, but we are experts." He scoffed when I told him what I paid ABC Lawn Services last year, saying they weren't experts. I defended ABC since they bought out a reputable local tree service company. Annoyed, I rolled my eyes and told him to just get to the point. He basically said "this time" he would let us use the $225 to cover one tree and would not charge me anything over, except for tax. The whole deal was a total farce since I knew that the people coming to actually trim the tree would be the worker bees who would likely be underpaid and barely English speaking. I feel bad for them since they probably see nothing of this overpriced nonsense. When they arrived this morning, the crew spent maybe 20 minutes trimming our young Burr Oak. On top of that, there was no "expert" foreman to tell them where to trim. While the tree looks good enough, small limbs that needed to be cut off are still there, taking away nutrients from the top of the tree that still needs to grow. This is not a reflection on the people who actually had to come work in the extreme heat. I am extremely disappointed in the company's customer service and supposed expertise. They are clearly more interested in bringing customers in with their "too-good-to-be-true" coupons, than they are with keeping them by offering a valuable and affordable tree trimming service. Needless to say, I will not be using them again and urge anyone who is thinking about purchasing their Yelp deals or other Groupon-esk deals to stay away. I will be posting this on Facebook and sending out to my neighborhood list serve as well. The only thing this company can do to redeem themselves would be to offer to finish up the job and give me what they promised in my money's worth. Before today, I would have given Brent's Tree Service 4 stars. Yes, they're a little pushy in ways that I didn't appreciate but the work was good and the pricing wasn't too bad. After today, I will be looking for another vendor to work on my trees. I've used Brent's 3 times in the past 2 years to cut and shape our trees and to remove a cedar tree in the backyard that was leaning at a 45 degree angle and making our oak tree grow toward's our neighbor's place. Earlier this year, I saw a groupon for Brent's and knowing that we would need our trees trimmed again soon, purchased it. When I called to redeem it today and the gentleman was discussing his quote over the phone - I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Let me explain. Cost to trim my trees: Early 2009 when they looked like yetis because my husband had never trimmed them: $600 Late 2009: $600 (we had another vendor do them in 2010 on a neighbor's recommendation) Earlier this year: $650 to trim our four huge oak trees and remove said leaning cedar completely (this was at LEAST a 12 foot tree - nearly 15 years old!) When I called today to have them trim back just our front two trees? $650. Excuse me? This is of course after I mentioned I'd bought the groupon, and Darrell made me feel like my trees were ginormous and I was a cheapskate for expecting a smaller price. I was honestly expecting something more like $350 since it's half the work they've ever done for me before and that was at $600! I've emailed groupon and asked for my money back and cancelled my service with Brent's and will be looking for another vendor. read more

I had an appt that was scheduled acording to what they had open, Darryl called me at work the day of to reschedule as the time was not convenient for him. I was at work and rescheduling was not a possibility, I had arranged my schedule to meet the original one they had offered. He was very rude and disrepectful. He came to my house even after I cancelled with their office and I felt threatened. I would not want this man around anyone of my family members, male or female. 06/02/2015 I guess this falls in line with some of the other reviews I have read. I called to get an estimate to cut down a few trees. Darryl comes and gives an estimate that is $300 over everyone else. He then says that he'll take off $200 if I commit right now. I tell him that I have another company coming to give an estimate. He immediately revokes the offer and storms off. I called Brents Tree Service first from suggestions I received. They were the second to last to call back, the least professional, and used high pressure sales techniques. I think I'll be going elsewhere. ---------------------- Update. ---------------------- The follow up call. 06/03/2015 I won't go into a lot of detail. I'm not sure if the call was to ask my opinion on the situation or just tell me that I was wrong. Darryl did try to clarify himself on the $200 discount, which I appreciate. Things took an odd turn when he said that he didn't care if he had my business. When I was asked about my take on the situation, I was interrupted twice without being able to give a full answer. The conversation ended with Darryl saying, "Look man, I'm not here to play games with you," and then he hung up on the call. I would like to believe that maybe the phone lost signal, but I don't think that's the case. Thank you for the attempted follow up. Brents Tree Service must be super busy. So be warned that they might not be able to adequately service you or get you a timely estimate. I called Brents Tree Service in mid-January to receive an estimate on getting trees trimmed at my house. Spoke with someone who asked me questions, including my address and phone number. This someone said Brents Tree Service would be getting back to me soon. Days passed. At least two weeks past. Nothing. No returned phone call. Again, Brents Tree Service must be super busy to not follow-up on a potential job. I called Brents Tree Service back today to close the loop and tell them I'm going to find someone else to trim my trees. The reply back to me was, in smug fashion, an utter of "Okay." No hint of "sorry, we dropped the dropped the ball." Nope. Just an utter of "Okay." With that, and like another person's review of Brents on Yelp, I am choosing to do busy with a tree trimmer that is more responsive to customers and more apologetic. Overall a disappointing experience. Unfortunately we were not able to communicate with the crew that was sent out so some of the work initially discussed was not done as expected. They ended up over trimming one of the trees and did not clear all the damaged branches from another. They also subcontracted some of the work, which they do not actually inform you that another company will be coming out, so that was less that optimal. Also, the company they sent did not clean up after themselves and when contacting Brent's Tree Service about this, they informed me they usually don't clean up after their sub contractors. I did manage to get Brent's back out to clean up and then realized the sub contractor didn't actually finish the job correctly, which was grinding a stump down, so I had to make other arrangements to complete the job. It also seems to be a huge issue for them to mail out a physical copy of the invoice since the original they provided to me was not the work that was actually completed. If you do decide to use them, be very cautious if it is anything more than cutting a few branches. read more

Let me start off by saying that I did not actually get my trees trimmed here because of their inflated prices (even with a Groupon!) and high pressure sales tactics and after reading other people's similar experiences with this company, I went with Joe's Tree Care and got more done for almost half the price. Go with Joe's! The rest of the story....I bought a Groupon and when Darryl came out for an estimate, he gave me the same pushy, super high pressure sales tactics other people have mentioned with "special offers" that wouldn't be offered unless I acted immediately. I don't appreciate that. I feel if are confident you have the best service at a good price, you don't need to pressure people into immediate decisions. My hesitation was also with the price. He was quoting me $1,075 to fully trim ONE big oak tree but when I balked, he said he'd throw a light trim on my tree in the front yard in for free and take the $75 I'd paid to Groupon off if I made the decision right then. I asked for quotes on removing 2 other trees and he said $450 without stump grinding and an extra $175 to grind the stumps. The price and high pressure sale made me uncomfortable so I looked on Yelp and saw lots of reviews (especially the filtered ones) talking about the same issues with people who had those coupons. After reading one review that mentioned Joe's Tree Care and seeing their near perfect ratings on Yelp, I called them. He came out within 45 minutes to give me an estimate, no pressure, and came the next morning with a crew of 3 guys and spent 8 HOURS here. He even ground 2 stumps from trees I'd had removed in the past for free! So....in the end, Brent's wanted $1,750 to do less than Joe's Tree Care did for $920. VERY happy I saw the other Yelp reviews and didn't give in to the snake oil salesman sales pitch! read more

I got in touch with the company on a Friday and was able to send pictures of the work I needed done, with-in 30 minutes I had an estimate that I was happy with. The next day a 4 man crew showed up they already had all the info they needed about the work I wanted done and got started. About 2.5 - 3 hours later (It was a big tree reaching across the roof and beyond) they were finished and everything cleaned up and gone. Highly recommended. read more

This is my experience from going through an estimate to remove a large (60') tree. I had something come up at work and wasn't able to make the appointment but my wife was able to meet with them. I called Darryl, whom I had the appt, to tell him my wife would be there. By the tone of his voice on the phone, I could tell he was not happy I wouldn't be there. When he did arrive, the first thing he told my wife was, "I thought I was going to meet with the decision maker. Are you the decision maker?" After giving an estimate he put pressure on my wife to commit right then to the work to be done. The estimate was over $2100 and, while fairly priced, my wife was not going to give the approval to spend the money. So Darryl called me while he was there and tried the same thing. He gave me the line, that others had also written about, that they had a whole crew who needed work and that the price was discounted because of that but they needed to come the next day. He kept huffing and puffing that I wouldn't commit to his high pressure sales pitch. After the experience, I wanted to call Brent's and tell them what an unpleasant experience it was having the guy come out but after reading how similar others experiences were on Yelp, I imagine the company is not only aware of it, but likely promotes it. On the suggestion of Yelp reviewers, I called Joe's Tree Care. Joe was a very nice guy who did the work quickly and efficiently. He also charged almost $600 less than Brent's. read more

Not even worth the one star!! They butchered my trees so bad!! It's lopsided and uneven. They were just supposed to trim the branches and lift them. Instead they cut off serous branches and the tree is starting to lean even more!! DO NOT USE BRENT'S I used Brent's because of a groupon. I will never make that mistake again. I agree with others that the salesman was high pressure and outrageous. I felt like I was dealing with a used car salesman. Due to a plumbing issue, I needed to remove a tree and decided to get trees trimmed at the same time. The first trip they cut down the tree and trimmed 2 trees in the back yard. When they came back to remove the stump, they left the remains. I called and they told me that most people want the chips to use as mulch. I did not and was not asked. I let them know that it was not just mulch but large pieces of wood that could be used in a fireplace. I complained about the poor job on the tres trimmed in the back. there was a large limb that was resting on my neighbors roof. They came out again. I called back when I noticed limbs hanging straight towards the ground, dead branches, and a limb resting on my roof. The owner came out and agreed that this was not quality work.So the trimmers came again. today, the dead limbs remain and the tree is still not properly trimmed. I told the owner I wanted to renegotiate the bill, since I will need to have another company trim the 2 trees. he told they could come out again. I responded that his workers do not know what they are doing and I do not want them touching my trees. his response...."I need your credit card number." I am filing with the BBB!!!!!!! read more

I had a rocky start with my conversation on the phone with Darryl when he called to try and move my appointment up by several hours. He was rude and short on the phone, however, after meeting him, I realized that was just his personality. I do think he could use some education on how to speak to his potential clients. When it was all said and done, I did use Brent's for the removal of my 25 year old oak tree. The crew that came to do the work were professional, careful and very good. Brents Tree Service came out to clear 13 trees out of my back yard. Apparently, I had a forest. They were all trash Hack Berry and Chinese Tallow trees, so now my experience. The office manager was extremely nice and professional. Always promptly called me back and scheduled a person to come out that week. Now the guy that came out...um, yeah, I was not his biggest fan. We had an appointment at 3pm for his estimate. First off I had 3 missed calls on my phone with no message from an unknown number starting from 1:30 or so...I finally called the number back and he said "It's so and so" (I forgot his name) "and I have been sitting outside your house since 2 pm. Where are you?" Me: "I thought our appointment was at 3." Him: "Yes, but I thought you'd be here early." My thoughts: Well you thought wrong and it is not my problem you sound irritated cause you're waiting on me. So he quoted me in a cheesy, pushy, used car salesman kind of way, promising me a "good price." I agreed to use them because they seemed priced well and that team that was doing the work did not include this dude. Anyway, the team that came out to clear the trees was great! Prompt, cleaned up all the mess, polite and fast. They did not leave any leaves or branches any where and I was truly impressed with their speed. read more

This company will definitely try to focus on scamming and selling you rather than caring for your trees. They absolutely butchered a beautiful tree in my backyard. When I spoke to the office, all I really wanted was a sincere apology and a slight adjustment to the service charge. What I was met with was a "too bad, you're SOL" attitude and refusal to even slightly compensate for damages. They're very pushy, rude and may butcher your trees. It's amazing how much better our trees look. Everything is trimmed, all of the cuts have been treated, and no debris left. I can't say enough on what a professional job they did. I called Brents Tree Service upon seeing a neighbor getting his trees done. The esimator came out and gave me a quote, which I felt was pretty high from the start. I had a number in mind and talked to him about what we can do to get closer to my idea of the price. He gave me a discount, which was closer, but not quite in the range yet, so I told him I'll have to think about it and get back to him. The next day he called and wanted to see what it would take to get my business. I told him the biggest sticking point was the price and that was my main concern. He came down even more to get me to commit, and it was close enough, so I did. As for the work, they did a great job cleaning up the trees and really shaping them to add curb appeal. There was no mess left over and they were professional, prompt, and seemed very knowledgeable. I'd definitely consider them again, but know that you should probably have a price in mind to start with. read more

This company removed a large (Over 100ft tall about 4ft in diameter at the bottom) tree from my yard. The job they did on the tree was ok, but not what I had expected based on the reviews and recommendations I had read. There was more damage to the yard around the tree than I would have hoped. They never showed up before 10 or 10:30 in the morning. They left a huge piece of the tree accidentally and did come and get it later, but I had to call twice. The biggest problem I have is that they asked to move a large workbench so that they could walk through the garage instead of having to haul large pieces through the small gate. I had no problem with this. However, it started raining before they left for the evening. They had not moved the bench in and all the things I had on the bench were water damaged overnight, including tools, thousands of fasteners, and jobs in progress for customers. They came by to survey the damage and offered to take some off my bill but then tried to argue with me about what it was all worth and what the damages were. This is on a $4100 job. They didn't agree with my number but offered to replace it so I said, fine, take it all and replace it. All of it, and provide receipts. That's when they gave in a gave me a more reasonable number but still short of what I felt was fair based on the inconvenience of having to replace the items. The guy was super condescending to me and basically gave me the impression that it was my fault despite having no idea what he was looking at or what any of it was worth. I would not use them again based solely on the attitude and actions of the guy sent out to assess the damages. They will absolutely not get my business again and I will recommend against them in the future. One last thing that I saw someone else mention; the sales practices are very high pressure and they basically give you a ton of 'discounts' if you book the work on the spot. These guys are fantastic. I had used the "knock on the door" guys before and while the did trim the trees, they didn't look good when done. I finally saw Brent's out in the neighborhood one day a few years ago and called them for an estimate. A guy from Brent's came out right on time, was professional and courteous and explained everything they would do with a trimming. I agreed and that afternoon had a crew out working on my trees. They did an amazing job and our trees have never looked better. I have been a repeat customer now 3 years in a row and will use Brents anytime I need work. I highly recommend them and have referred several friends and family to them. As a side note - I have had a number of contractors working on various projects as of late and had a number problems ranging from sub-standard work to impolite employees and ones that just don't show up at all. Our trees were very over grown & dead, and it was nice that they took the time to explain what needed to be done to each tree. We knew it would be a costly project, and it was, but they were nice enough to split it into payments. The only mini-complaint I have is I felt pressured to agree that day to service. I understand there is a cost associated (on their end) with coming out for an estimate, but it's a major cost that I needed to factor in. These guys are great! I called to get an estimate and Darryl came to my home, gave a quick estimate and a time and date they would be there. I asked for a heads-up when they were on their way and Darryl called as requested. The crew (lead by Jose) showed up five minutes early and did a superb job trimming the trees as requested (I admit that I can be somewhat of a pain) and cleaning up afterwards. Jose said it would take two hours; it took an hour and 20 minutes. I have been trying to get my trees trimmed right for a while now and this crew did everything as expected and requested. Brents returned after two years to service five pecans (including removing two due to disease; three cleaned.) Also cleaned a huge cedar elm of mistletoe and removed two of its branches overhanging my new roof. Their workers, under the crew leader, Eric were thorough and efficient and bent over backwards to see my wishes were completely satisfied. They even hauled away diseased wood on my woodpile which contained spores which could spread to healthy trees. Special thanks to Darryl who last time (2 years ago) discovered one cedar elm tree was diseased and full of carpenter ants which were eating the plywood under my shingles. Roofers had to replace two 4x8 sheets. His recommendation to remove that tree saved me the cost of replacing additional roofing materials. He even suggested several disease and drought resistant oak varieties to replace my diseased pecan trees. Heads up. Watch for black spots on your trees which can be hypoxylon canker fungus, a terrible disease killing many pecan and other species of trees in Central Texas. That is what killed my two 36 year old pecans. I have complete confidence in Brents and am pleased to recommend them. read more

First off, when it comes to anything regarding any kind of landscaping, I know absolutely nothing. I can barely keep up with my lawn, I've got dead grass everywhere, overgrown trees blocking the sun to that grass, and an HOA that has been breathing down my neck about it for a very long time (one of these days they'll own my home, I'm sure of it!). First things first, prune those trees!! I have three trees in my front yard: two were planted by the homebuilders and one was left as part of the original land. The latter tree is my Dr. Seuss tree because it has branches going in every direction that make no sense whatsoever. I've tried keeping up with trimming it myself over the years, but it finally outgrew me...to to the tune of 20 feet tall and covering the entire front lawn. So I called Brent's Tree Service. I called early on a Monday morning. As mentioned below, the office manager was very nice and talkative. She told me I would be the first to be visited that next Wednesday at 9 AM. She also told me that they had a minimum $242 charge for work done (the estimate would be free, though). Since I mentioned that I had seen their ad on a billboard off of I-35 (and here on Yelp, of course), she told me I would get a 20% discount. The estimator was right on time (of course, I was already outside working on my front lawn; I was having a guest over after all!). He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful answering all of my questions and helping me understand things I hadn't even thought of in regards to my trees. The one tree was really the only one I had wanted to be worked on, but he made some recommendations on the other two trees I had out there as well. I went ahead and decided to go with his team working on all three trees plus some bushes I wanted pulled out. I didn't bid out to other tree services, so I really have no idea if the final cost was more or less expensive than any others. Most people who are not tree professionals told me it shouldn't cost more than $300 to remove a tree, so i was a bit taken aback when my estimate came out to nearly $400 (after the discounts) to trim and clean up 3 trees. However, I did sign on the dotted line, and the next day, their crew came out and did the work as requested. I wasn't there when they came to the house, but I couldn't have showed up that much longer after they left. The front lawn was clean of any debris (branches, etc.), and the trees looked fantastic. The crew came out last Monday to trim the oaks in our yard. The agreement was they would paint all cuts and pick up the yard when finished trimming. They did neither. I found out cuts should be painted within 24 hours. A week later they came back to paint and pick up the yard. They still missed painting a six inch cut, and I am still not satisfied with the cleanup. I would not recommend this company for tree service. read more

First I have to say that the high pressure sales tactics were a turn off and was not at all impressed by Darryl. After our run through of what needed to be done I was given a very high priced estimate which was way more than other companies quoted. On top of that he went on to down talk other competitors which is very unprofessional in my opinion. Darryl must have seen it in my eyes that the price was high, so he offered me his discount and if I scheduled the work with him right away he would shave another 100 off the price. A price still way above other estimates I had received. When I stated that I was still in the process of getting other bids and would let him know later he left without giving me his estimate. If you want cheap, don't call the guys. They're not the cheapest and they don't price match. They are a reputable company and know their value. I had a little sticker shock at $1,800 price tag for tree trimming services. That said, I went with their company because they were a reputable company. I was impressed that we didn't have to wait a week for services. They came the day after they quoted us! I want upset about the price after seeing that it took 4 workers and five hours to get all the trees trimmed. They have never been trimmed before. New home. New lot. Several trees to trim and cut down. They worked their butts off! I was able to call the company office to address certain trees I wanted cut that didn't make it into the work order, while the workers were on site, and the office admin was very professional and communicated with the workers on site to address my needs immediately. They did a beautiful job! My neighbor even commented on what a great job they did! They cleaned the yard up before they left. None of the workers left trazh or rubbish behind. As I'm renting a house, my landlord hired Brent's Tree Service to get some trees out of the power lines that were probably ready to drop any day now. Brent's stayed out at our house all day long, probably over 5 hours, to get rid of all the hanging tree limbs and copious amounts of bamboo- and they did a great job. I really only interacted with Luke, but both Luke and the rest of the team were very professional, courteous, and speedy in getting the trees cut. The job was difficult, as they were tasked with cutting limbs hanging into and over a power line, and they made it look as good as it possibly could given the scenario. They cleaned everything up at the end- I would have never known they were here if I weren't home! I would recommend Brent's any day! read more

Brent's Tree service is top notch!! The Sales Manager Darryl came out to my house and walked the property. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the trees and what they needed. I have a huge Ash in my front yard, and he told me how to make it last -- due to it is 35 years old. The work crew was here the next morning and did an awesome job, they trimmed up two trees and cleaned the yard as they worked. I have 3 kids, and they were respectful of that with the cleaning of the back yard!! After the work, All my neighbors asked me who did the work, and I referred them to Brent's. We used Brent's Tree Service a couple of months ago. We had found them through a general search and when we made our initial inquiry, the individual I talked to was responsive and helped us quickly set up an appointment. He seemed knowledgeable and stressed how experienced he and his team were at trimming trees and leaving them well-balanced. The team that showed up to do the work were nice and polite. They also worked really fast and were careful about working around some of our landscaping that was close to the house. The reason that I am giving them four stars instead of five is that we ran into an issue once they had completed the initial tree trimming service. They came by while I was at work and they kept emphasizing their experience as arborist and that they would do the job right. They took out two larger trees and trimmed up one of the taller trees we had in our backyard. We were pretty disappointed that the very next day, a huge limb on a tree they had just trimmed fell down and we had to call them back out for another service that required an additional charge. While I understand that they cannot control the weather, we did find it disappointing because we had not had any problems with that tree until after they came and trimmed it back. Updating this since they came back a second time and totally ended up hacking our mature trees to being "broccoli stalk" shaped rather than a pretty shaped tree. They also blew out the privacy in our backyard after specifically being asked to pay attention. It took a year for our backyard to recover and come back - our front yard still doesn't have the form it had before :( read more

Overpriced with arrogant salesman and high pressured sales tactics... Call someone else.
