It was in dire shape: a 1ft diameter limb was down in our neighbor's yard and pinning down cables, 1 large limb was in another neighbor's yard, 2 major limbs had previously been removed, and the tree was covered in fungus. This was right after NYE, so I only received calls back from this company and one other. The other company provided me with a quote of $2700 for removal and grinding and could come out Friday. That company's salesman was nice to deal with; when I mentioned I wanted to get another quote he said, "of course, that is how this usually goes." Brents' salesman, Darryl, offered $3800 for the same service but could get to the tree a day earlier (before a storm was due to hit). When I mentioned getting another quote, he immediately switched gears and acted offended. He made several comments like, "how I shouldn't use other companies in Austin without insurance" and, "who do you want working over your house." He also mentioned that this tree could not be any more dangerous and needed to come down immediately, as it could crash into my house at any time. I asked for a price reduction, and he did give me ~8% off the total: we settled on $3500. I should have backed away and gone with the first guy who was nice, professional, cheaper, and also insured. But the tree looked terrible, and based on Darryl's insistence at tree's danger, I made the decision to go with him as he said they could have the tree down, "maybe Wednesday, for sure Thursday." I wanted the tree gone before Friday's storm caused the tree to destroy my house. Come Wednesday (1/4), Brents' crew came out for ~2 hours at the end of the day and removed the limbs from the neighbors' yards. This surprised me, as I felt that the risk of those limbs was much lower than the 40ft of tree hanging over my house. Darryl had mentioned the downed limbs might be offering some counterweight to the portion over our house...now that was gone. To give credit where due, the workers did a great job and my wife said they were nice. Thursday (1/5) noon, I called my wife, and she said the crew had not yet arrived. I called the office- they were on another job. They ended up at my house with ~30 minutes of daylight left and removed a few medium-sized pieces of the tree. So I went into the coming storm with the vast majority of the tree still over my house - the avoidance of which was the entire reason I went with Brents in the first place, spending the extra money and having to deal with their salesman. Friday arrived w/ my house intact; the crew arrived mid-morning. They worked almost all day and did a great job. They even saved and piled up some firewood for me. The next week they ground up the stump. I got a call that my bill was due (I never received an invoice), & I mentioned to the office employee that I felt that since the work was not done on time, and that was my reason for using Brents, I felt I was due a discount on the work. He gave the salesman my info. I talked to Darryl the next Monday (1/16), experiencing one of the worst customer service experiences I've had. Almost immediately, Darryl interrupted me when I was calmly trying to explain my point of view. I was told that Brents had gone far above and beyond on this job and weren't making any money since they took that ~8% off. I was told again they can't benchmark the other company I quoted because they are probably not insured (as I mentioned earlier, they are). I was told there were no guarantees on timing and the crew did everything they could to get to my property on time (possible delays were not communicated at the onset of the process). These might be decent arguments if the salesman had said them in a calm manner after listening to me. Instead I was continually and rudely interrupted, and there was no attempt to see my point of view or act professionally. Darryl couldn't understand why I thought the job would be done on Thursday (or at least my house would be safe by then) because that is what I was told. I was never told that I could get bumped without notification. I called the office after this and was told I could speak to the owner, Will, the next day. I called the next morning and was told Will wasn't in, but that they would give him my phone number to reach out. At this time I also paid my balance, as I wanted to cut ties as quickly as possible. I have yet to receive a call from anyone. This company has a lot of great reviews - in my opinion due to the solid work of the team and the friendly office staff. I would probably give this company a C on averaging pros and cons; however, I could never recommend this company due to the complete lack of professionalism and attitude of their salesman. With the high price tag I expect overall satisfaction - but instead feel I was misled and treated disrespectfully. read more

Brent's Tree Service just left my house and I am very satisfied. Darryl came out on a Friday to give me a free estimate. He was well dressed, easy to talk to, very professional, and knowledgable. I was very happy with the price he quoted me. Last year I went with someone who does it as a side job because it was cheap and regretted it! It was horrible. I previously received 2 other quotes from big name companies and they were significantly higher. The crew arrived on Monday to do the job, and they too were very friendly! I used Brent's in 2017 and had no complaints.  So I called them this year after the freeze to see if they could help.  Darrell came and looked at the tree in the front. I told him I really didn't want to cut that tree down because it provides so much shade on the West side of the house.  He suggested maybe they could cut off the dead bits and cut it back enough so it wouldn't scrape the neighbor's roof.  I agreed to this.  Then we looked at the tree in the back, which has been struggling now even before the freeze.  I was OK with them cutting that one down all the way.  Like the last time, in 2017, he started with a high price and then said he was giving me a discount from $1699 to $1499.  I also agreed to this.The team came and went while I was at work, away from the house.  I think that was June 1st.  Things looked okay.  Three days later (the 4th), I couldn't find one of my planted flowerpots that had been in the front. I looked around the side of the house and found it.  The terracotta pot was broken, and the broken side was facing towards the house, as if to hide it.  The shocked plants I repotted immediately, but if they had let me know right after it had happened, I could have repotted sooner, and they would be better off (they aren't dead).  So then I thought I better check the rest of where they had been.  I noticed that three dead-looking branches, across my neighbor's driveway hadn't been cut.  I sent an email message asking them to come back and fix these issues.  I didn't hear back. Over the weekend I also saw that several items had been moved around in my back yard and had not been put back into their places.  These were a heavy wood table and a glider swing.  Both were too heavy for me to put them back by myself.  I emailed the business again, but no reply.Tuesday, I called the business. I explained my concerns, and the VERY FIRST thing they asked was, "Have you already paid us?" (like, what difference does that make?).  I said yes and he said I should take some photos of the tree and email them so he could see for himself. I said I can do that today.  No mention has been made of the broken pot or the heavy things out of place.Today, Wednesday, I emailed the photos at 0700. It's now the afternoon and I haven't heard back.I have read the other reviews and I can't understand how this business can get so many 5-star reviews, but I Can relate to the 1 and 2-star reviews and the specific complaints.  No one was rude to me, though. read more

Is there a zero? We have used Brents for over 15 years and even recommended them to other people. About a week ago Daryl give us a quote on removal and trimming of some trees. $5700. He said he would give a thousand discount if they could do it two days later because we've been good long standing customers. My husband told him we were going to get a second quote, and he said then I revoke the thousand discount! He said he would email the quote, and we haven't heard from him since. We got another bid from another company that came highly recommended. They bid less than half of what Brent's bid. If you read my initial review you'll note that I made an appointment which Brent's was unaware of the very next morning. Anyway, later that afternoon I received a call from another Brent's employee who was upset that I had missed the appointment I had attempted to reschedule. I tried to explain that I had called in that morning and that there was no record of our appointment, thus I was unable to reschedule. The employee on the phone could not possibly comprehend this series of events and made it clear that he didn't believe me at all. (This miscommunication between these two employees was frustrating later on as well.) He ended up quoting me over the phone and, as stated in other reviews, immediately began pressuring me to accept his quote. I tried to explain that I don't like to make big purchases in a matter of minutes, that I prefer to think on my own before accepting. He was unrelenting and even dropped the price without my request. In the end I accepted the reduced offer. Trying to pay was also aggravating. I missed the first phone call, but the voicemail asked that I call back to pay over the phone. When I returned the call the the rude pressuring guy picked up and, again, couldn't understand why I was calling him, even after I tried to explain, again, what had happened. He ended up calling me back the next day to pay. Of course an argument ensued when I tried to use their GroupOn; apparently Brent's seems to have their own "rules" for GroupOn purchases, which are not listed anywhere. He ended up raising the price before applying the GroupOn; I was done arguing. Frankly Brent's is disorganized and rude. 2 stars because the work was done adequately. You know when a company says "free estimate" it usually means they come out and look things over and give an estimate. Well Darryl came out to our house looked the trees over and gave an estimate - sort of. He went on to write up a whole monthly payment plan for our household WITHOUT letting anyone discuss if it could be done. So when the owner of our house decided that it was a bad time for that amount of money per month this man decides to belittle my mother by telling her that we "wasted his time" and that it interrupted his day to come out to us. Guess what? It's your job genius if that's what you claim. I don't appreciate anyone treating my mother and grandmother that way and will make sure to let all my friends and family not to use your service. Don't EVER belittle ANYONE!! Where do I begin? We live here in Manor & have used them for a few trees in the past & they did an okay job. However, they did not finish the job like they told us they would in the estimate. They finally (after a few calls) came out & finished the job. We thought we would give them another chance & get an estimate for more work and the estimate was very high. When I called, they scheduled an appt quickly and immediately for an estimate. From there, it went downhill. The sales manager came out to my house, and gave me a quote. The quote started at the "regular" price, then he said they had a discount, and then he would give me a "special" discount. He tried to convince me that the sole tree in our backyard had to come down rather than be trimmed, then gave me yet another deal to do so. But, the terms of the deal were that I had to decide right then and there to move forward with it. If I wanted time to think about it, I would lose the deal. I hate being pressured by salesmen, and this is a bush league tactic. If it's such a good deal, I'll call back in another day or two. But to try to force me into a quick decision for over $600? Do not purchase any sort of coupon for Brents Trees. The vendor is attempting to extort more money than the service is worth. I have requested a refund from Urban Dealight. We just had a TON of tree trimming done in January 2011 and I bought this voucher to get just a few branches trimmed. We paid $850 for an entire trailer full of branches to be cut and hauled off in January 2011 from Woody's Trees (highly recommend them), so I bought this just for a few branches to be trimmed. Brent's Trees came out on October 1, 2011 and wanted to charge me more than I paid in January for the little work I wanted done. Obviously I said that was ridiculous. Rather than let it go to waste, I gave the coupon to my friend to use who only has one big tree in her front yard. I told her to just get $225 worth of tree trimming done on that one tree. When Brent's came out on January 21, 2012, they would not do $225 of trimming and also wanted to charge an incredible amount and she asked them to leave. They did an excellent job and explained the process of how they trim the trees keeping the health and appearance of the tree in mind. I, like many of you, bought the deal of $75 for $225 worth of work. When i called them out, i was told that they start at $300, so it really wasn't a deal. I needed them to cut my neighbor's tree that is hanging over onto my side. I told them that i don't want to upset my neighbor, who would not be upset, but i just don't want them to make it look bad. The manager told me that those are just "trash trees" anyway and went on and on. Btw, my neighbor is outside the entire time. My husband and I chose to call Brent's tree service, as we both had worked with him as a client years ago, and felt he had a good reputation. I called to get an estimate, and spoke to an LJ (?). As soon as I said "free estimate", he was short and clearly didn't want my business. We are sinking a bunch of money into a home we are under contract for, and intended on using Brents. The property needs a lot of tree trimming and potentially a tree cut down, as the property is pretty neglected. We are getting our finances in order, just as any responsible home buyer.... We know it will not be cheap, but we will never know from Brent's how much that will cost, as I was refused service. So I initially went to the website for Brents Tree Service and completed their "Request a Free Quote" form. I have 2 pecan trees in my backyard that need to be trimmed. I submitted the form on the weekend and was called that Monday to setup and appointment; so far so good. The appointment was set up for Tuesday at 4:00pm. I was contacted that Tuesday afternoon by a gentleman to confirm my appointment time and to get directions to my place because he couldn't find my house on the GPS. All was still good on the home front, but here's where it gets a little rocky. I'm at home waiting and the gentlemen (if I should even call him that) doesn't show up until close to 4:40pm. Well sir that's 40 minutes after you were supposed to be here. STRIKE ONE! We go to my backyard to look at the trees and he starts throwing out the companies certifications, gives me a copy of their insurance and so on and so on. Then I ask him what he's going to charge me. He tells me the price, which I'm not happy with. I proceed to tell let him know that he is the first company that I've talked to and I'm still shopping around at this time. This is when his attitude comes into play. STRIKE TWO! I don't know if the company explained to him that I only wanted a FREE QUOTE but that's what I wanted and I wasn't going to be pressured into anything else. Bought the $225 Urban Delight coupon. I was not given the option to use the $225 coupon by itself. My choices were to spend an extra $560 on the back yard or $1200 on the front yard. Not sure why I continued with the transaction but i did. I would have given one star but the guys working did do a great job for the 90 minutes they were in my back yard. Get multiple bids before you let them talk you into the job. we originally called Brents to get a quote on tree trimming, but quickly learned that one of our backyard trees was diseased & would likely be dead in a couple of years. after speaking with Darryl about pricing and options, we decided to go ahead and remove the tree & its stump so that we could plant a new tree of our own someday. Darryl was very straightforward when giving us information, but was never rude or pressuring. he even threw in the trimming of our existing trees for free. Brents showed up on the day they promised, & worked quickly & cleanly to remove the tree & trim the others. they returned several days later to grind out the stump & left a pile of wood chips, which we had no use for. my husband contacted Brents about the wood chips, and they scheduled a time to remove them for us at no additional cost. overall we had a wonderful experience with Brents & would recommend them for high-quality, well-priced yard services. read more

Do not use Brents Tree Service. They are far too expensive (1 cut of a medium sized limb from my ash tree....375.00!!!), and disregarded my request to snip three dead branches off my other ash tree. "Makin one quick cut to make a buck" is all I got from Brent's, and Darryl was the guy that estimated my work to be done. Brent's is a ruse. They are arrogant, and greedy. When my husband came home he called them to cancel the work and the man hung up on him. Can you believe that? So rude. Daryll really put a lot of pressure on me and wasn't honest about the correct time to trim the trees. He said do it right now, but when I had 2 other tree services(very reptuable) come out they said that now is not the time to do the work but do it in February, better for the trees and bushes. (Some trees were dangling over cable & power lines) We called Joes Tree Care and they got to our home, removed the BIG broken limbs and cleaned up after themselves that same day. This is a bit long, but worth the read if you are considering Brents. Short version: HIRE THEM NOW without hesitation. You WILL NOT be sorry, they are the BEST and coincidentally one of the most affordable. Longer version: Hands down some of the best customer service I have received in my life. They did an amazing job and beat the price of just about everyone else. They came out and did the job in no time, and the trees look beautiful. Here is where it gets good: I thought there was damage to my roof from the job, and emailed Brents. Jerry and Cisco came out the next day. The damage, it turns out, wasn't even caused by Brents. It was an issue caused by the way the roof was laid. But Cisco (Brents Carpenter) got up on my roof and fixed the issue for me without hesitation or charge. Wow! I mean I wanted to buy him lunch. BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE: There was a thick tree wire (you know the kind that is supposed to pull an overly separated tree together) in our tree that had broken before we even moved in 4 years ago. I had resigned that it was just always going to be there looking ugly and damaging the tree. Cisco grabbed his ladder, a hammer, chisel and wrench and got the wire down in about 5 minutes, again without hesitation. I mean this wire was not Brents responsibility in any way whatsoever. Yet they took care of me, the customer and my trees without question. I cannot express how blown away I am by the completely amazing customer service from this company. I've had trees trimmed before but I had 2, 50 foot palm trees that needed to be trimmed and have never had such tall trees of this variety to be maintained. They gave us a reasonable price and explanation of the bid. I watched the whole process and what I saw and experienced from start to finish was professional as it gets. Safety and care for themselves and our property was second to none. Great teamwork is another way I can explain it. Tough, strong team that had the process down! We had a fire in the field behind our house back in September. This left numerous dead trees. We hired someone to clear the trees behind our house that we saw doing the same thing for the neighbors so they wouldn't fall on our newly rebuilt fence. He was overpriced and amateurish. While the fire did major damage to our back yard and singed the tree in our yard it appeared to be doing well until Tuesday when a mild storm came through and snapped it sending it hurling onto the power lines and causing a black out on our street. I called the police and fire department as it was an electrical fire from those same lines that started the fire back in September. When they had ascertained that there was not much they could do other than call the utility company and hire a tree service. They instructed me to call back to the police department for phone numbers. They recommended Brett's. When I spoke with the guy on the phone they came right over to do an estimate, even beating the power company here. Because it was a referral he gave us a discount. We then inquired about an additional tree on the property with many dead branches in the canopy. He gave us a price to remove it that the was less than that quoted by the other guy who was only going to trim it and leave getting rid of it up to us. Within a couple of hours there was an entire crew removing the portion of the tree that fell on the power line. They managed to finish before the power company arrived. Two days later they came to finish removing the tree in the backyard and remove the one from the front. They were courteous and professional, even going out of their way so as not to damage a shed directly below the tree. The two workers then took a break for lunch or something. When they returned the two workers turned into a swarm removing and chipping the branches coming off the tree in front and removing all the pieces of the tree in back. Will we be using Brent's again? No. Sadly we have no trees. We will plant good trees to replace the junkie hack berry trees. I do recommend them highly. I do have to agree the estimator tends to be a little pushy. Great service and fantastic work. Called Brents on a Wednesday they came out that day gave me a estimate with a very reasonable price. Darryl who did the estimate was professional, took the time to answer all my questions and give me some advice about some of my trees and what what type of tree I could plant in a certain area. The work was done the following day, the guys were great, on time, cleaned up, and made sure we were satisfied before they left! Our house looks so much better. Went outside to clean my pool and there was a guy from Brent's Tree Service wearing a red shirt in my neighbor's tree trimming branches. He was taking branches in his hand and throwing them onto my property. Some branches fell loose onto my property also. I went outside again to shock pool and there was the same guy in my side yard. He asked if he could pick up some branches. I gave OK. Did not come to my front door, as has been customary in Western civilization for the last 1,700 years, to ask permission to come onto my property. If nobody had been at home would he have come onto my property regardless or just left the branches to be my problem? read more

Brent's made my Christmas Merrier!! On Saturday, 12/22/2018 I called Brent's Tree Service regarding a 10" Elm (maybe 40' tall) that had succumbed to the recent high winds and lay resting on the facia and the ridge vent of my house with additional support being provided by the branches being entangled in a neighboring tree. If that tree decided to let go, then there could be severe damage to the house. The person I talked to (Jerry Brents) was very understanding and explained that his crews were off for the Christmas holidays, but he would try to find someone to come out and look at it. Not much later I received a call from Will Brents who arranged to come out the next day to assess the work and provide an estimate. Arriving on time for the estimate, Will looked at the job and said he was confident that his people could handle it, and that he would try to put together a crew to come out on Monday (Christmas Eve) to do the work. He said they'd be there by 9:00 AM and that he would call me if he couldn't get a crew to come out on their holiday time. Thanks to Will for his effort! He certainly came through. Monday morning at 8:30 AM there was a knock on the door and the crew was there to begin work. They were skilled in their approach to the problem and had all the tools required to get the job done safely and without additional damage to the structure. Luke was their spokesman and helped ease my apprehension in addition to doing his job on the team. They knew exactly how to get the job done. I was especially impressed by their care and concern for safety - they even blew the sawdust off the roof after each cut to prevent slipping! By 10:00 AM the tree was history, the roof and surrounding ground were cleaned up better than it was before, and they were packed up and gone. I should mention that all of this friendly, skilled service came at a price that I was very pleased with. The price was competitive with bids I have gotten for similar services in the past (we have a LOT of trees...) from the less professional door-to-door tree trimmers, and those bids weren't for emergency service on Christmas holiday. Brent's did a good job on our tree trimming. The price seemed reasonable compared to the amount of work that was performed. The crew was efficient and courteous. We would use their service again. I read many of these reviews before posting mine. It seems a common complaint that Darryl can be a little brash if there are any issues with his service. I can understand after dealing with him over the phone how people could say this, but he seemed like a very fair individual even if we didn't totally agree on everything. If I were to complain about anything with this company it was the settling of our bill. My wife offered to pay at the time the work was done, but they wanted us to wait and pay by phone to their office. A nice lady called me a day or so after the work was done and asked if I was completely satisfied with the work. I said I was, and I felt the crew did a good job. I mentioned there was one branch I'd hoped could have been removed during the trimming, but it wasn't a huge issue. I offered to pay the bill with my credit card. She declined to take my payment and said she wanted to contact Darryl before taking my payment and would call me right back. I didn't here back from her, but received a text stating something very similar the next day. "Are you satisfied with the service and ready to make your payment today?" I tried to call the # I received the text from and left them a message saying they had said they were going to call me the day before, but never did.I then told them they could call me for payment as I wasn't comfortable sending my credit card information to a strange text #. About 15minutes after I left this message, I got a call from Darryl saying someone had called and stated that I wasn't willing to pay my bill and he seemed a little defensive about the tree branch I had mentioned the day before. I appreciate the concern from Darryl, but there was never really any issue. I was just trying to pay my bill. Darryl said he would have the lady call me for my payment, but she never called me back. I eventually called their main # and made the payment to prevent any further misunderstanding. As a business owner, I can understand why Darryl would have been upset after having done so much work if the customer refused to pay. Unfortunately, his frustration and mine appear to be the result of poor communication by Brent's office staff. Overall, I would recommend Brents and will certainly use them in the future should the need arise. read more

These guys were incredibly professional and courteous. They had removed a couple of dead trees for me last year, and when a Bradford Pear was about to come down on my house, they promptly helped. I'd choose them again any time. read more
