We were travelling through on business and found Brett's through google maps near an area we were staying within walking distance. The service was exceptional and everyone was extremely welcoming and appreciative of our business. The food was very good and the atmosphere was casual and relaxing. Worst dining experience I have ever had. We walked in and were not greeted. Stood at register waiting to order while a very young girl finished texting on her phone. We asked about several menu items and were told, "I don't eat that kind of food, but I hear it is good." We decided on an "Asian" salad and a bison burger. We were then told that we could sit wherever we would like and assumed a booth in the "bar" (no liquor) area. Within five minutes a group of 10 or so came in (several children in this group.) The children proceeded to run rampent throughout the restaurant as a heavy, balding man, (who we later found out is the owner, Brett) yucked it up with the adults at the table, with no regard to anyone being inconvenienced by the children running through the aisles. The salad came out room temperature but with a frozen fork. We asked our waitress, "Why is the fork frozen?" and were told, "Because that is what Brett likes." We asked for the dressing on the side, it came out on the salad, but they did put a small bowl full on the side as well. My burger may or may not have been actual Bison, but one can assume it was frozen meat of some sort as it was still cold in the middle, but black on the outside. After our food finally came out, we had grown so tired of the screaming children that we decided to take this sub par cuisine home to eat in a semblance of tranquility. Waited for several minutes for a server to come by so we could get to go boxes. Never happened so we left the food on the table and went elsewhere. In a nutshell: if you want cheap food and like children running around while you eat, this is your place. If you want to be served and waited on while enjoying a nice meal, look elsewhere. read more

I have enjoyed Brett's on 2-3 occasions. The food was tasty, the portions were plentiful, and the employees were very friendly. I prefer that you order and then sit down. The process is quicker than waiting for a server to take a drink order, then return to get your food order. read more

This is my second time going to Bretts. The first time I went I had a wonderful salmon sandwich thing- It was delicious. So this time when my husband suggested that we go there I was all smiles. Well half way through my meal today I began to get curiously nauseous. Once finished with my food I slipped to the back bathrooms and proceeded to throw up several times. I felt awful. After I cleaned myself up I informed the waitress that something must have been off about the food. She told me that food poisoning doesn't come so quickly (although for me my body usually rejects it right after I eat it) and than she said "I'm sorry that happened to you", turned and walked away. I am utterly disappointed that I just paid this restaurant to get sick. Do not go here! They will not even own up to their mistakes. Instead they made me question myself and leave crying. Not the relaxing lunch I was hoping for. I will definitely be turning people off from this place for the rest of my time in Athens. I still am in disbelief that I can throw up their food in their bathroom and not even get my money back for a meal I couldn't even digest. read more

I have eaten at Brett's for the second time this year, and I love the food. The first time I dropped in for lunch, I asked the waitress to choose something for me and she suggested a veggie quesadilla with cream corn on the side. Huh!?! ...okay. When she delivered my quesadilla, she proceeded to tell me to put some of the corn on the quesadilla and to eat it that way. Delicious! Wow...who knew?!? The food was great and the waitress was excellent. Great knowledge of food and the menu and perfectly attentive...not too much, not too little. I ate lunch at Brett's again today and tried one of their hamburgers with smoked gouda and fries. It was so good, I could not slow down stuffing my mouth. Perfectly cooked, and, again, the same waitress which, again, made the menu suggestion. If you go, ask for Wendy. She is fantastic. The atmosphere is a little noisy, but the food makes up for it. I will be back. I intend to make this my lunch destination whenever possible. The prices are very reasonable, especially for the quality of food and service. read more

Food was great, total confusion on service. We walked in and saw a line at the cash register and waited our turn. The Menu was on the wall and a map of how to order which was confusing at best. We decided on splittling the 12 oz topped chop sirloin and the "build your own two". We ordered two salads and the lady said you can't do that, you have to order two different items. So we ordered one house salad and one ceaser salad, she said "are 'you' going to eat both of them". I said yes I am, to which she replied no you are not, you have to order two different things. I said what does it matter. She replied the Manager wants the 'choose two' to be for one person. I wanted to argue but thought I will just leave and then I said just give us a house salad and a baked sweet potatoe, not we wanted. We paid for our meal and was given two glasses for our water. We also ordered two beers. We chose a table and carried our flag to our table of choice. I then figured out that I had to fix my own drink so I went to the drink bar and fixed our waters and went back to the table. We sat for a while and I finally went to the bar and told the bartender we had ordered two beers, she said yes two ultras, here ya go. I am not sure if she was going to bring them to us or if I was supposed to go there and get them. I wanted another beer, but I did not have a waitress so I assume I would have to go the bar, order and pay. Then we noticed people at their table with menus and a waitress. After we finished our wonderful meal, I asked a waitress about the menus and ordering from the table. She said you have your choice, you can order at the register or sit down at a table and be waited on. I wish we would have known that. I also think I should be able to order whatever I want, two salads, two potatoes, two whatevers, but not here, the Manager will not allow it. The food was delicious and I will probably return, but I will sit at a table and skip the cash register line. read more
