[Pre-COVID Review] Tried Brew Cha last spring with a coworker when it had just opened. I remember we took bart from Powell down to 16th St and hunted our way around in the pouring rain! I was definitely caught by their super aesthetic drinks on Instagram. I got the ube taro latte and my coworker got the matcha latte. I LOVE LOVE ube and taro so I was super excited to try it out. The drink is super aesthetic/Instagram-worthy, makes a sort of tye-dye effect on the cup. You can definitely taste the ube and taro flavor, not artificial at all, and the drink is super creamy. I haven't been able to visit the city ever since the pandemic started... but Brew Cha is definitely on my list once it's safer to take public transportation in from south bay and to be out and about on food adventures again. read more

Right now I'm addicted to their Black Sesame Matcha Latte (with Oat milk sub, with boba, 75% sweet ~$7), but I'd love to try the other drinks in their matcha series like the Lavender Matcha. The boba was soft and chewy despite it being almost at closing. Because I ordered at night, I was sort of worried I wouldn't be able to sleep because of the tea, but it turned out to be not a problem. This is also a cool place to hangout with friends. I've been back to this spot twice since my last review and I'm happy to report that my experiences both times were markedly better than the first time. Shortly after publishing my earlier review, Kenneth C. reached out to me and expressing appreciation for my comments. I always appreciate striving for improvement so I was happy to give Brew Cha's free black boba another shot. Although I'm not the biggest fan of ube/taro milk tea personally, I have a friend that always orders that at the boba shop. Since the ube taro latte is the bestseller here, I figured there would be nobody better to get feedback from on the craftmanship quality and overall taste. I ordered the ube taro latte with organic whole milk and the free black boba and the Thai milk tea with default half and half with free black boba, both in the 24 oz size. I asked for a drink carrier because I was going to take the bus, and I appreciated how the carriers here have some extra support within the holders so your drink isn't just sliding around when placed inside. My friend thoroughly enjoyed the ube taro latte, so much so that I was picking up more boba a couple of days ago and his craving for the ube taro latte from here threw a wrench in our plans because I was just too far away for Brew Cha to be an option. I did get a sample when I got it the first time but since I'm not a fan of dairy milk, whole milk especially, all I can really say is that the quality of the milk obviously shows. I look forward to coming back to this spot to order the ube taro latte for all of my ube/taro loving friends. The second time I came back around (third time overall), I tried to download the Revi app so that I could better track my loyalty rewards. There's a 20% discount for your first order in Revi which I wanted to use here, but the fact that paying with Apple Pay wasn't an option made me pass on it. I got the Thai milk tea with half and half with free black boba again, but initially my drink came out without the boba. I had just left the store when I noticed and brought it back in, the team member that made it was extremely apologetic and added the boba for me first thing. Now for the part everyone has been waiting for--the update on the free black boba. The first time I got it the only nice thing I had to say was that it hadn't costed extra, but these last two times I'm happy to report that I didn't suffer stomach issues. I can appreciate a boba that is softer on the outside and firmer towards the center, which might not be everyone's thing so exercise caution when ordering if it's not yours. It still wasn't evidently soaked in brown sugar and the overall texture still suggests that it wasn't made fresh in-house, but I wanted to up my rating by one star so five stars it became. The only other gripe I will point out is that the lids can be quite leaky. Both times I've ordered the Thai tea I've gotten it in the 24 oz iced size, and both times the cup was filled up to the brim. I'm not going to complain about getting more milk tea, as more is always better than less, but even though I had the drink in a carrier the first time a considerable amount dripped all over the carrier during my bus ride. The second time I was just walking with it for a couple of blocks, and I was still leaving a Thai milk tea trail behind me as I walked. Funnily enough even though the Thai milk tea dripped all over the ube taro latte really didn't, but given a bright orange drip is more noticeable than a white milk drip. The staff member took care to wipe down the sides of the cup before giving my drink back to me, but just be careful if you're wearing anything nice or not planning on finishing your drink on the spot. read more

They deliver for a small fee and are so friendly and will work with your budget and requests. Serena, the main person I worked with with so incredibly nice. She had great suggestions and provided a free tasting for me. I ended ordering the roasted oolong with boba, lychee black tea with boba, and strawberry raspberry tea with boba. When it arrived the guests loved the drinks and said the boba was still nice and chewy even after the long drive! Kevin was nice enough to set it up for me and he did such a great job. Got here on a Tuesday afternoon around 3 PM and there weren't too many people. There was one person taking orders, and there's also a kiosk where you can self-order right next to the cashier. I ordered a chestnut creme brulee latte with boba, 25% sweetness, and oat milk. Creme brulee drinks are usually way too sweet for me, so I usually don't get them, but I decided to try it since they allow for sweetness adjustments. The drink was pretty good! Creme brulee was creamy, the sweetness was perfect for me, and the boba was a great consistency--not too hard or soft. I also like how they allow you to do oat milk without charging extra (which unfortunately a lot of other places do). Boba was also included in the drink price already, so there's no extra surcharge, though if you want other toppings, that'll be an extra $0.60. It was $6.50 for my drink with boba, which is okay--not cheap, but not the most expensive in SF either. The interior isn't super spacious, and there's really only about 4 tables, so not the greatest spot to dine-in especially if it's busy. They have two claw machines and a variety of board games, so if you do end up having your drink there, there's also some entertainment. They don't seem to have a restroom though. There's a few parking meters right in front, though I believe there were full when I went. I'm not super familiar with the parking situation around here, but whenever I've been in The Mission, it seems to always be busy so I avoid driving there. Been wanting to try this place out for a while. What finally lured me in was their tea week specials that I came across on their IG. The shop is located walking distance from 16th Bart station and close to another boba shop, District Tea. Brew Cha offers a good amount of fresh fruity drinks, milk teas and their famous Ube taro latte with real taro chunks inside. No snacks or desserts on their menu at the moment, but hopefully in the future they can expand. I was able to try their passion fruit tea, hojicha green tea, peach oolong tea and of course their ube taro latte. Both the fruit teas had fresh fruit taste. There was also real passion fruit seed bits, which was legit. The tea taste is pretty strong, so if you like drinks where the tea is more prominent then this is definitely the place. The hojicha green tea was good but actually needed more flavor; it tasted a bit watered down. I prefer the hojicha from District tea. The ube taro latte was aight, I actually wasn't a fan of the real pieces of taro in the drink(similar sweet potato with a nuttiness to it) but I finished it. The chunks are spread along the walls of the cup and the drink tasted very milky. Complimentary boba was added to some of the drinks but it was a small amount. The balls were of good consistency with a hint of sweetness to them. One gripe was when I had to pay with my card, I had to stick my whole arm under the small opening of their plexi-glass to reach the insert chip slot from their long tablet. Another gripe is how flimsy their cups are; the cup can easy bend when you're holding your drink. Also, the area can be kinda sketchy with questionable people walking around. I think only 3 people can be inside the shop at a time so you most likely have to wait for your drink outside. I ended up buying a drink for a homeless veteran because I felt bad. But anyways, just be aware of your surroundings. Overall, the drinks were good. They were made with fresh and clean ingredients. I believe it is safe to say Brew Cha has been added to one of my few favorite Boba spots!!! We came here 5PM on a Friday. They are open 12pm-8pm MON-FRI (yes those are up to date hours) **They are open during quarantine! You can either place an order for pick up. You also can line up 6ft apart and order. They do curbside pick up as well and you have the option to pay through ordering on phone or paying up front. I REALLY APPRECIATE how thorough and sanitary they are taking such measures seriously during the pandemic I noticed they were wearing gloves and wore masks while handling the drinks. SF is filled with so many Boba shops left to right and at this point, I would say a lot satisfy my desperation for boba cravings, but are not genuinely good or the best to be considered a favorite true boba spot. HOWEVER, Brew Cha is definitely the place to go and will be my new fave. THE QUALITY OF THE DRINKS ARE GREAT. You can tell they use good quality ingredients rather than just pouring hella flavored syrup. For example, I ordered a Black Sugar Matcha Latte, I could definitely taste the matcha. You can tell it was matcha powder blended perfectly instead of the strong overwhelming matcha syrup taste. THE BOBA PEARL IS ACTUALLY SO SOFT AND CHEWY. Almost just as chewy and soft as Tpumps!!!! I would recommend their top 10 drinks, and apparently the Ube Taro Latte is their number 1 seller. Had a really bad experience today unfortunately. Alicia L. and I ordered for pickup on Postmates as we have done many times. Placed the order at 6:30pm, drove over to Brew Cha, as we had done many times before. The first sign that something was amiss was the 20 people or so milling around the entrance. They were clearly understaffed and orders were backed up in a major way. Uh oh. Then at 6:44pm, got a notification that the order would be ready in 60 minutes. I get that businesses are strained during this time, but if a business can't get orders out the door in a reasonable amount of time, it should not continue to accept online orders. I have ordered boba probably hundreds of times and never been quoted an hour wait before. I'm sorry, again I understand these times are difficult, but everyone is affected, and customers don't have the time to stand at the corner of 18th and Mission for an entire hour for a beverage order. I had an appointment at 7 so had to leave and call Brew Cha and Postmates to cancel the order. Miraculously as I was on the phone with Brew Cha at 7:05pm, at the exact moment they told me they couldn't cancel the order, the order was marked as ready, likely so that it could no longer be canceled. Curiosity brought me here. My friend lives just down the street from this alley corner store and, in the past, I'd often see lines and several people drinking and talking just outside. By the time I got home, I still had half of my drink and was quite satisfied already. I refrigerated it as drank the rest of it in the morning with my breakfast. This drink is probably not a good one to judge their teas, since it was more of a holiday drink and the tea flavor is not the star. It was a nice dessert to a wonderful Japanese meal. Decided to make a pit stop here on the way back home after visiting my grandma during the evening. We knew all the boba spots back where my cousin lived would be closed so we decided to spot here on our drive back. They are open late which we loved! Not to mention the service here is A1!!! I ordered a tiramisu milk tea and a tie guan yin oolong tea with cheese foam. Both drinks were delicious!! However, the cups were dysfunctional since both drinks had cream foam on top. I get so annoyed when your order a drink with cheese foam just to get a plastic seal over it vs a sippy lid (idk if that's the name but let's call it that). Also, our straws cracked which made it difficult to drink. Other than that, I did like the tea selections and was intrigued by all the different flavors that had. I'm not really a boba drink fan because it seems gimmicky, uses way too much sweetener, and I find boba balls to be highly annoying to drink but I work around here so I thought I'd check it out. The storefront is nice. It's clean, smartly decorated and has a good amount of seating. I usually get the raspberry-strawberry tea which is refreshing on a hot day. They use real fruit for the fruit teas unlike a lot of other places that rely on fruit syrup. The Ube Taro latte is very pretty, it's sweet but I get it with no added sweetener and it's not too much, tastes a little like a coconut smoothie. Definitely do that one for Instagram. read more

The staff was very friendly and accommodating as we came in and ordered a handful of drinks. Inside it is very clean and seems like a decent place to get some work done. When we stopped by, there wasn't really anyone else around, so it was also quiet. The drink itself was very pretty, but the taste was so-so. The drink tasted literally like ube and taro, plus some milk, none of the flavors were mixed into the drink or with each other. But, if that's what you're looking for, then this is the place. The taro was real taro chunks, not a fake powder flavor, and the ube was coated on the walls of the cup, so you'll have to scrape it down with your straw to get at it. The milk/latte part was not that impressive so I would've preferred a milk tea base instead. All in all, it's a pretty drink and worth trying once, but I wouldn't necessarily come back for it. They offer lactose free options as default (no extra charge). Super reasonably priced drinks in today's age of crazy bobas. I was in the mood for a boba late Sunday night and I decided to try out Brew Cha. Location wise it's in the Mission so the area is kinda grimy and parking can be difficult depending on when. When I arrived there was plenty of parking....AFTER I had parked two blocks away on a red zone.... Thankfully no meter maid or police gave me a ticket during the time I was gone so shhhhhhhh! ;) Anywho, the interior is bright and pristine compared to the street outside. There are several tables and two couches where people were chilling and hanging out. I ordered a Matcha milk tea with boba. I'd say the boba is not bad but it's also not outstanding. The drink certainly satisfied my boba craving, but after I finished my drink, I had that feeling of "Oh, was that it?" So, the boba may have been meh, but since it's called Brew Cha (cha is Chinese for tea), perhaps I'll go back to try the fruit teas instead! read more
