Walk in and order on a kiosk, pretty self explanatory. Ice cream is sold by "scoops" but it seems like they sell rolled ice cream, so it might be a bit hard to visualize this or quantify the amount of ice cream. There was a Yin-Yang drink that includes tofu ice cream which is super interesting, but not sure if I would get it myself. I was going to get it assuming it's a classic black sesame but the tofu definitely intrigued me (while also deterring me a bit). Dark Roasted Oolong Milk Tea with Boba - boba was chewy but not "bouncy" - still good though. Actually pretty sweet too, so it stood out from other spots as there was flavor. Tea was more milky and creamy at first sip but there's a tea after taste, seemed pretty freshly brewed. They have some slogan that reads "more than milk, not just tea" which I guess is a decent way of explaining it. Definitely some middle ground where both flavors are explicitly obvious. I got 50% sugar and the sweetness was very mild so they definitely accommodated. Less ice was still about 1/3 ice in the cup so that could've been less. read more

They DONT have rolled ice cream anymore due to covid. They really should have a sign saying that vs we find out after we have paid already. The lady also was not apologetic even though their wall still have the big sign saying rolled ice cream is better. We drove all the way to them to get rolled ice cream. Oh well. My go to neighborhood boba shop. You order at the touch screen kiosk and the staff will create the drink, you can also ask them for recommendations. Since I'm an unofficial caffeine addict, I always order the matcha red eye, which is matcha with a shot of espresso. Their other teas and ice cream based drinks are good too, aka the yin yang. To go orders are the norm here but they do have stools around to wait or eat your ice cream in. Yes, they also have in house ice cream. The 4 star review is because the menu items isn't always fully stocked. So they won't always have egg waffles or a certain drink you want to try. TIP: Beware of Giants game days (or special music concerts at the Stadium), those are the days when most toppings will be sold out. I ordered a Strawberry Matcha with Crystal Boba and it was really yummy! The matcha flavor was good and the sweetness of the strawberries was a perfect compliment. The Crystal Boba was nice and chewy as usual. The only complaint I have is that the drink felt a bit too creamy for me (possibly because of the vanilla flavor?), since I tend to like a stronger tea flavor over milky flavor. STEEP understands the meaning of what they are named after. Their drinks and ice cream do taste like they have been adequately steeped! I first visited when I worked nearby in SOMA, luckily before a band of techie hipsters came in to bulk order cause they were doing a team building activity! I ordered the matchapolitan ice cream roll, which was matcha and strawberry ice cream with real strawberry pieces and matcha boba! The matcha boba was flavored agar - quite dense and gelatinous, but fun. I think the way they rolled them with the pink on the inside and green on the outside, and the placement in the bowl made these some very cute looking ice cream rolls. However, they were definitely smaller than standard ice cream roll places. The bowl fits in the palm of your hand. I still liked them, because I can't finish a standard serving of ice cream by myself anyways, and they had a harder freeze and thicker density, so the rolls retained their shape even when I was finishing it. I also had their strawberry matcha lemonade, which I thought was unique because matcha drinks are usually just matcha with milk. I really enjoyed this combination of flavors, and love the vibrant shade of green on the organic matcha! The balance between the bitter matcha, sweet strawberry puree, and tart lemonade made for a mouth full of delightful sensations. Due to COVID-19, STEEP overhauled their offerings. They have been focusing heavily on their ice cream, doing some deliveries here and there, or running a one-day popup for their ice cream at various locations throughout the bay (check their Facebook for updates). $9-16 for a pint of ice cream is fairly STEEP (get it?), but I do like the strong, bitter flavors of their matcha ice cream mixed with fresh strawberries in the matchapolitan, and the black sesame for the matchapolis. The black sesame ice cream has such an earthy, nutty, strong sesame taste! The Straus ice cream base gives these a pretty rich, thick creaminess, and the ice cream is quite dense as well, so it stays cold for longer, but it's harder to scoop... one of the hardest ice creams I've had to scoop, actually, not that I mind - just need a better scoop! I also had their smoked oolong milk tea with herbal jelly at 50% sweetness delivered. There was no ice due to the transit nature, and I really liked that they left it out so that it wouldn't dilute the drink. Unfortunately wasn't able to have their boba for the same transit integrity reason! Anyways, the smoked oolong was strong in smoky roast tea essence, and 50% sweetness was perfect, even a bit more on the bitter side. The herbal jelly was very smooth! The folks here are very nice and are coming up with very tempting Asian flavors every so often; I wish I had more freezer space! We came quite late while a Giants game was ending, so quite a few mishaps happened. They somehow missed our DoorDash pickup order, so they hadn't started the order by the time we arrived. They had also already sold out of the vast majority of their items, so we had to change our order multiple times. Not fully blaming them though, it was quite busy! We eventually settled on a matcha strawberry latte and a jasmine milk tea. The matcha latte was really good! Strong matcha flavor, and the strawberry wasn't overpowering like how I find it at most places. The jasmine milk tea was a little less flavorful, with a stronger milk flavor than tea. I also wished it was a touch more sweet (but this is on me, I got 25% sugar). The pearls were also great! Quite bouncy and chewy, but not over cooked by any means. Will definitely be back sometime! A rather disappointing experience here. I've had rolled ice cream before at other places and was looking forward to trying STEEP after seeing reviews, but I don't think it's worth coming here a second time. The descriptions of the rolled ice creams all sound delicious and I had a hard time choosing which one to try. I ended up picking the Coffee Meets Waffle: Andytown Roaster coffee mixed with waffle and coffee beans, topped with house whip and coffee beans - sounds delicious right? Sadly, the ice cream itself was quite icy and flavorless, with barely any hint of coffee. I forced myself to finish it because it was $7+, but the only part I really liked was the housemade whipped cream. I tried a bit of the Salted Caramel Pretzel as well and it was a bit better than the Coffee Meets Waffle - or at least, it had some salted caramel pretzel flavor. Free toppings is a nice gesture. I got almond flakes and fresh fruits, which they put on the side in a little cup so that it wouldn't fall off the ice cream. (The fruits were not very ripe or sweet either though.) My sister also got the passion fruit aloe tea, which was supposed to come with passionfruit seeds; however, there were clearly no passionfruit seeds in her drink, and when she asked the staff working behind the counter, they said there weren't supposed to be any. Why list the passionfruit seeds on the menu then? Also just a warning that this drink is extremely sweet and they said they could not adjust the sweetness for it, so we ended up mixing in a ton of water to dilute it. read more

Came here with some friends for drinks. My friend got the matcha latte with coconut milk, and I wouldn't recommend that one with coconut milk. What ended up happening is that all you can taste is the coconutty taste of the milk, and it pretty much eclipsed any flavor that the matcha had. I had the passionfruit and aloe vera drink, and unfortunately that one was not customizable on sweetness, unless you added tea to it (which it doesn't come with). I had it regular and it was super super sweet. A coconut-based ice-cream roll that is topped with fruit and almonds. It's fun to watch them make the ice cream rolls, and it's also pretty tasty! The price is a bit steep at $7 a cup, but it's a pretty big portion and shareable. The tea, on the other hand, is just ok. I prefer other locations to get my boba fix, but this is the only one in this area. It gets the job done. I like that they have oat milk as a non-dairy option. There needs to be more competition in the area! The line can get a little long on hot days or if a big group of workers decides to venture out from one of the numerous offices in the area. This place is tucked away between business and condo buildings. Their ice cream combinations are unique and all sound so appealing it was hard to choose. They also sell boba tea and different types of boba! If you're a matcha fan, this place is heaven. Almost everything on the menu contains matcha! Again, just like the ice cream, it was hard to choose from the milk teas. The ice cream was rolled and softer than others I've had but the flavor was all there. The salted caramel pretzel was the perfect balance of salty and sweet. The matcha boba tea was okay mainly because i only got 50% sweetness so it tasted like unsweetened tea. ‍ I'd come back and just get regular boba tea, with all the sweeetness and things. Review is for boba only! 4.5 stars I finally noticed this STEEP was open on weekends! The closer one in Mission Bay is closed on weekends, which is a huge hassle. Nonetheless, I am to this location one afternoon after a movie at the Metreon. (I know Sharetea is there, but I refuse to get ok boba just because it's more convenient.) This spot has a boba guys feel for sure. It's clean and white, a bit industrial interior. It was my first time here and it took a while for me to figure out what I wanted. One of my pet peeves is when a place offers sweetness adjustment, but doesn't ask what you want? Yes, i'm ordering and i should specify, HOWEVER, different cafes start their drinks off at a different baseline sweetness (i've seen cafes where 50% is there standard and 100% would be an adjustment; I've also seen places with lines out the door and they still just mention 100% sweet/ice is what it's at as a reminder). It also wasn't busy at all on this Saturday afternoon. On to the drinks: really good! I got the Hokkaido milk tea with boba and 50% sweetness, and he got the black milk tea with boba. I really liked my drink despite the fact that I don't usually love toffee (just felt like trying something different that day). I can't say that the ice cream base really makes a huge difference, but it's definitely a thicker tasting drink (not really any actual texture difference, but) possibly smoother? The flavor and sweetness definitely is longer-lasting, but you don't get any lingering ice cream mouthfeel. It was pretty cold out, so I popped the remaining half of my drink when I got home into the fridge, and finished it about 4-5 hours later. It was still delicious! It definitely tasted the exact same as when I got it, which I can't say is the same for other boba spots even some of my favorites. My guess is the ice cream base keeps better/differently. The boba wasn't the best. It was a little too chewy outside with the inside a little bit hard (pre-refrigeration, of course). I'm a fan of agar boba, so maybe i'll try that next time. The cashier also didn't ask about the reward system at all, which is specifically in place to drive returning customers. After making our drinks he kinda hid in the back and I had to wait around a little for him to half-reappear so i could ask to join! Cute small cafe with a few tables with stool seating. There was no one at the front of the cafe to greet me when I entered. Since there is an ordering kiosk setup, I assume they're trying to automate the ordering process and keep manpower in the kitchen. The kiosk interface is relatively intuitive. You pick which drink you want and modify it as you wish. There's also a notes section where you can make special requests for your order. For example, since I couldn't find an ice levels section, I just added in the notes for there to be no ice in my drink. Earl Grey Lavender Milk Tea || $4.50 I added matcha boba to my drink which was an additional 50cents. The drink itself was a bit overpowering with fragrances from the Earl Grey fighting for dominance against the lavender. I originally thought that since I loved both earl grey milk tea and lavender milk tea, this would be the best of both worlds. Sadly, it wasn't as wonderful as I'd hoped, but still drinkable. The matcha boba is deliciously crunchy since it's made from agar agar. I'd definitely choose to add this topping again to another drink. I like their fruit drinks since they use real fruit (fyi the sugar level for the fruit teas is actually the amount of fruit purée they put into the drink, not actual sugar). Go-tos are the Tangerine Kumquat Tea and Strawberry Pom Tea with agar boba. Their milk teas are a little too watery for me so I would stick with their fruit teas. The boba is usually just okay (sometimes it's too hard or not sweetened well) but they don't charge extra for agar boba so that makes up for it. A normal drink comes out to about $5.5 with a topping. I would go to Asha over Steep if it were closer since their teas are better, but convenience usually tends to win out. I had way more toppings than ice cream and I found myself eating boba and mochi long after I finished my ice cream. I could taste the oolong flavor in the ice cream but it didn't really 'wow' me. My boyfriend got the cookie crush flavor which came with whipped cream and an oreo. He forgot to ask for more toppings so his was a bit boring, lol. It's a bit pricy and the ice cream wasn't as good as Icicles, but I really liked how they have "Asian" style toppings like boba, jellies/pudding, and mochi. The shop is small so there isn't any table seating, but there are chairs on the side to sit while you wait for your ice cream. I also thought it was super cute how they had a little table set up for a mini photoshoot for your ice cream, complete with a backdrop and lighting! Sometimes le boss gets on my case for being "anti-social" at work. Pssshhhh, that's because he hasn't seen me after a couple of dranks. Just kidding, I probably wouldn't have a j.o.b. if he did and would have to go into Yelp retirement. I'm social....around food and people that love food. That's why Yelpers get along so well - we can talk food all day. STEEP has the BEST milk tea in San Francisco, even better than Boba Guys (I'm really bad at posting reviews for boba places but they're 5 stars). When I saw Tao Tao W. check into "STEEP Creamery & Tea" and saw that they were serving Thai Ice Cream Rolls, I quickly sent the business link to Kathleen U. We kept running into each other at new business openings and she didn't make me feel crazy for taking an uber/lyft during lunch just to try a new place...because she did it too. So why not be crazy food obsessed together. Opening last week, STEEP Creamery is an offshoot of STEEP (in the little alleyway of Ritch) that sells made to order, handcrafted Thai Ice Cream Rolls. They're the first SF shop to offer this latest food trend. Since AT&T Park is nearby, I can imagine STEEP Creamery & Tea being very busy once baseball season comes into full swing. On the day we went, they had 5 flavors: My Thai (Thai Tea), Cookie Crush, Roasted Oolong, Uji Matcha, and Pistachio. They only have one size for $6. Each flavor comes with pre-set toppings but you can add any others for free: boba, housemade coconut pudding, housemade grass jelly, fresh strawberries, red bean, mochi, cookies, cheesecake bites, dark chocolate shavings, and whip cream. They also sell their signature STEEP teas, milk teas, and UJI matcha. Caffeine free options available. They have a rewards program (buy 10, get 1 free). Cc's accepted. I ordered the Roasted Oolong Ice Cream Rolls which came with boba, housemade grass jelly and Kathleen ordered the My Thai (Thai Tea) that came with housemade coconut pudding, boba, and mochi: http://bit.ly/2ouDYpI Since everything is made to order, expect a wait if there's a line (we got there early so no line). The Straus milk concoction is poured onto an iced grill, smoothed across the surface until it stiffens, and is scraped into ice rolls. The first time I had Thai Ice Cream Rolls was at Icicle's first location in Willow Glen (http://bit.ly/2ow3Mlh) which I enjoyed but I like STEEP's much better... I loved the Roasted Oolong Ice Cream Roll - it was deliciously creamy and silky smooth with the perfect amount of creamy sweetness. It was literally like their Roasted Oolong Milk Tea but in ice cream sheet form. Unlike many milk tea places, the tea flavor really comes through. The boba had a good bouncy chew and the grass jelly's mildy bitter flavor balances out the sweetness. Although I liked the toppings, I'm an ice cream purist. I would have enjoyed it just as much if the rolls were nekkid because of the high quality ingredients. The ice cream rolls are very IG friendly and they even have a photo cube with succulents for staging so you can get that perfect picture. There's several stools and a bench to enjoy your ice cream treat. In the future, I hope STEEP considers opening a spot in Mid-Market which is in dire need of a good milk tea and dessert spot. It's going to be one expensive daily addiction but you can never have enough balls in your life, or in your mouff. read more

Delicious boutique of ice cream and boba teas. Their ice cream rolls are amazingly delicious and creamy. Boutique has got modern interior with self ordering kiosks and eco friendly cups n spoons. Yummy creamy "Pure Pistachio Ice Cream Roll" perfectly balanced not too sweet I would definitely recommend this and come back to try different flavors. Staff is friendly and helpful. read more

Loved the rolled ice cream here! This was only my second time trying rolled ice cream, but the rolls here were much better than the ones I had the first time around. STEEP offers ice cream rolls in 5 different flavors. Each cup is $6 and is made with Straus milk and raw sugar. The flavors are as follows: MyThai - Thai tea ice cream topped with boba and housemade coconut pudding Ujimatcha - matcha ice cream topped with fresh strawberry and reb mean Original oolong - organic oolong tea ice cream topped with boba and housemade herbal jelly Cookie crush - crushed chocolate cookie ice cream topped with housemade cookie and whipped cream Cereal Coder - mystery cereal ice cream topped with cereal and crushed waffle cone In addition to the toppings that come with each flavor, they also offer free toppings of: fresh fruits, mochi, cheesecake bits, and dark chocolate shavings. My friend and I split the oolong, which despite my initial reservations about the herbal jelly, ended up being really good. The jelly is almost flavorless, and eating it with a spoonful of the ice cream was nice as it provided a smooth contrast (texture-wise) to the ice cream in my mouth. The ice cream itself was creamy and had the texture of normal ice cream instead of the brittle ice cream rolls I had previously experienced. They advertise their ice cream as being made from high quality ingredients and you can definitely tell as you're eating it. You have to be patient waiting for your ice cream order, though. Because they are handmaking each rolled ice cream to order, it can take a while for your order to be ready. We probably waited a good 20 minutes if not more for our order. Parking in the area is fairly easy on the weekend; there were multiple open spots along the street when we went on a Sunday afternoon. They were metered but I didn't have to pay because it was Sunday. read more

Unique concept for ice cream being freshly made and rolled up into rolls! You get to see how they make it in open, public display. They have tea and boba drinks on a simple menu. I opted on their MyThai Ice Cream and one gets to choose toppings! It includes coconut pudding, which was a sweet surprise that complimented with Thai milk tea flavor. I chose boba, fresh fruits and chewy mochi. The whole small dessert cup was packed with jumbo delight! See-through big windows and metal stools for seating. No tables. Contemporary and hipster vibe. There is even a photo booth right where one would pick up their order. It gave me an implication to take snapshots of my ice cream rolls with succulents in the background and the name of the place with a hashtag behind it. Welcome to SOMA! Apparently roll ice cream is now the "thing". I had them in NYC and cities around the bay and I think Steep is pretty good. Better than most places in the bayarea but not as good as NYC. I wish they have more flavors. I got the oolong milk tea, my favorite milk tea drink ever. The ice cream was very smooth and rich. $6 dollars, comes with toppings and don't forget to add fruits, no extra cost. Small but I think its the perfect size. They also serve boba drinks as well. I would need to try that next time. The store is bright, clean and service was nice. Also, they have a instagram set up for those who wants that perfect pictures. read more

I've been so excited to try new things year after year! Take frozen treats for instance; starting from shave ice to shave snow. This year, a new form of frozen treat has entered the spotlight. I couldn't wait any longer, so I had to check it out. Before I quickly wrapped up my rainy Easter Sunday, I came all the way to the almost deserted Brannon st. which was few blocks close to AT&T Park. And there it is, STEEP Tea and Creamery! You have the very same STEEP Tea café that makes tea lattes, milk teas, and coffees; in addition to what would be the new concept of a frozen treat. Say hello to the rolled ice cream! Looks quite similar to rice sheets (if you take away the r from the word "ice"). I'm glad the new creamery opened on weekends, and many people came here, but other patrons were still into bubble teas. Shouldn't they supposed to go for ice rolled version of the boba drinks instead? Pour the contents into the ice tray, mash them to bits, smear them thin like a cement, and chisel them into rolls. There you have it, five frozen rolls with boba toppings, just how I pictured it! I admit, workers have chiseled slowly; however, steadiness is what makes a good rolled ice cream. I ordered the "legendary matcha milk tea" with boba, which was $5.50, but sadly, the matcha tasted very powdery and weak. Other places offer matcha milk tea that has a much stronger matcha flavor and where the matcha is also much better mixed. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend the matcha tea/milk tea here. I also saw several people order the ice cream rolls, which looked cool, but for $6, was a terribly small portion size (the recent bowl looks even smaller than the ones I've seen in pictures). I thought other places were expensive, but the bowl here was tiny and there were hardly any toppings (other places allow unlimited toppings). Caveat: I didn't order it myself, so I cannot speak to the taste. They have a few small tables, a few benches both inside and outside, and one gender-neutral bathroom. They are located in a small suite in the Splunk building (the main entrance is just next door). Staff was generally friendly, but seemed a bit impatient with us when trying to figure out what to order. After 5pm, it got super crowded, so expect to take it to-go or need to sit on the benches outside. All in all, okay boba and dessert place, but it wouldn't be my go-to. Prices seem kind of steep for the quality you get and the matcha did not stand out to me. read more
