Enjoying dessert and a birthday toast to Tommy!

Brian's is such a beautiful, quaint little restaurant tucked away down an alley in Lambertville. We had a wonderful time celebrating my husband's birthday at Brian's. The food was delicious and the service superb! We loved it.

    Short ribs were delicious!

Sisao is conveniently located by one of the finest wine stores in the area. The really good stuff is in the side room and I mean incredible offerings. Dinner started with a potage of mushroom with shavings of dark truffle which I wanted to dive into. Followed by lamb chops, succulent and crispy. Cooked with passion. I wish I had taken pictures!! Bananas Foster was the classic ending to a marvelous and savory meal.

Let me tell you - Chef Brian did not disappoint with his three-course price fixed dinner. There is SO much to pick from, it was near impossible to choose. What was even more amazing is you can do the standard size dish or a smaller version depending on how hungry you are. And no, it's not lunch prices and sizes. It's genius for a multi-course meal. The highlights from our meal- - The staff: seriously. Shout out to them. So welcoming from the start. Never rushed us. Asked us if we needed a break before jumping in to dessert. Attentive without being overbearing. A difficult balance they executed flawlessly. - Sea scallops with black truffle risotto: sensational. I would have licked my bowl if that was acceptable - Squid puttanesca: it's a fine line between undercooked squid til it turns rubbery, and this was an exceptional cook. - Pork tenderloin: flavorful and so moist - Rack of lamb with leeks: a jus you never knew you needed. - Bread pudding: unsung hero of the desserts. Amazing. And simple berries and vanilla ice cream? There's nothing simple about it. Shout out to Chef Brian and Sisao. We cannot wait to come back. (Note: to the diners - Cash, check or Venmo so you come prepared.)

My husband, who has been to Paris and is very particular about his escargot, said it was the closest he has ever had to the real thing. That alone says a lot. We started with the mushroom toast, which was hands down the best toast we have ever had, along with deviled eggs topped with salmon roe that added the perfect burst of flavor. Every bite felt thoughtful and elevated. For our mains, we ordered the coq au vin and duck frites, and both were outstanding. The sauces were rich and balanced, and the meats were cooked perfectly. Dessert sealed the deal with crème brûlée and pot de crème. The crème brûlée, especially, was a masterpiece. Beyond the food, the restaurant itself is small and charming with a cozy, intimate feel. The staff were warm and attentive and made the whole experience even better. This place deserves way more hype than it gets. If you are anywhere near Haddonfield, do not miss it.

We made our reservation the night before and were off. Entering, you immediately notice only about half a dozen tables in the same room the food is prepared. It's a nice setting that is definitely unique. We started with a tomato bisque. It was creamy, smooth, and a great hot soup to start off a chilly winter evening. My main course was the Duck Frites. A generous helping of fries, with a smaller helping of duck strips. The amount of duck was a little disappointing, but it had a good flavor and a touch chewy. It came with an unusual banyuls aioli sauce on the side, that I quite liked. We finished the evening with a crepe cake that was quite large. I would definitely recommend splitting it, but I found it to be lovely sweet way to end the evening. The crepe was probably about ten layers and soft enough to cut through with a spoon. It came served with a raspberry coulis and powdered sugar. The ends were fired to conclude the dish with a light crunch. All and all, I enjoyed my meal at the Little Hen. If you're in the area, it's a nice place to have an upscale meal or a romantic evening in a small town not all too far outside of Philadelphia.

It's also BYOB, which makes it even better -- bring your favorite bottle and make a whole night out of it. The vibe is warm, intimate, and perfect for date night, but they also have a gorgeous outdoor space that can host up to 100 people, making it such a hidden gem for larger parties and celebrations. They opened in September 2019 -- just six months before the pandemic -- which makes what they've built even more impressive. It's truly family-driven. The husband, Manuel (from Spain), is the head chef, and you can absolutely taste the care and authenticity in every dish. Cindy, who is from Panama, brings so much heart to the restaurant as well. We started with Prince Edward Island oysters and the crab salad, which had crispy bacon pieces for a great touch of texture and the crab was incredibly fresh -- such a perfect balance of flavors and crunch. For entrées, the beef bourguignon was rich, comforting, and everything you'd hope for from a classic French dish. The Dover sole felt elegant and perfectly executed. We ended with the chocolate mousse, which was light, decadent, and the perfect sweet finish. And I have to mention our server -- Delroy was fabulous. Attentive, personable, and so knowledgeable. He truly elevated the entire experience. Between the ambiance, the hospitality, and the beautifully prepared food, La Provence is absolutely somewhere I'll be coming back to for an elevated night out.

On the…read moreoccasion of the summer equinox, Father's Day, and our 56th wedding Anniversary, dining on their beautiful patio, and served by our favorite waiter, Nate, it was a memorable occasion. The reason I am writing this review is to criticize a dish that truly needs correcting: Duck de Confit. I enjoy this dish at La Provence and generally order it when I'm there. It has historically been served over a bed of red lentils. The recipe has been updated to a more summery dish. It is described as Confit of duck leg, Armagnac Sausage, potato allumettes, orange-date salad, mustard sauce. Here is the problem with what I was served, last night. The mustard sauce made the entire dish soupy and acerbic. It made the undressed salad soggy (actually swimming in the sauce), and, as I commented to my wife, the dish lacked a starch. Only in retrospect, do I realize it was missing the potato allumettes (I presume them to be crispy, fried potato sticks). So, there are three things: lightly dress the salad (this could be light and refreshing), eighty-six the mustard sauce (it is swampy and off-putting), and don't let the dish leave the kitchen without checking for completeness ( I would have liked to try the potato sticks). This could have been a fine remake of their Duck Confit with my suggested changes, and I hope the chef reads this review, because I am a fan of this restaurant and normally of the Duck Confit dish.
