I needed a refresher for my cats' rabies vaccination and called. In a very friendly conversation I got an appointment and was asked to prepay the visit for both, resulting in paying $150. During the conversation I explicitly stated that I simply want the rabies vaccination, nothing more. Upon arrival all was as you'd expect from a friendly veterinary clinic. After assessment my cats got vaccinated. I was a bit puzzled by the use of two syringes per cat and asked about that. I was informed that it's easier for the cats with two shots. I was not informed that they got an additional vaccination that I did not ask for. After the treatment, I was ushered into payment in the treatment room, not at the counter what I expected. The screen that I tapped had no itemized invoice, just $120. I paid, without even having seen the invoice, stupid me. Only at home I learned that my cats got treatment that I didn't ask for and, more importantly, did not consent to. In addition to the rabies vaccine they got FVRR-CP. That feels like misrepresentation, and my attorney considers that to be breach of consumer protection if not more severe. I'm just happy that my company records all phone calls and I have a witness. And I'm considering legal steps. Did anyone had a similar experience? I really would like to know. It's a pity. read more

Best animal hospital in Houston. Amazing front desk staff to coordinate all appointments an payments. Some of the most talented vets in all of Houston. My pets have a primary there but it's nice they have a full staff of exceptionally trained vets if my primary is ever unavailable and I have the greatest confidence in them all. They have been exceptional for the last 8 or so years I've gone there. I initially had two elderly cats and they were super patient and helpful as they aged. My dog is almost 6 and he's been going there since he was a puppy. My only warning is... I also have a 2 year old cat now because I walked in on a day someone had brought in an 8 day old kitten that needed someone to watch it "for the night". Hah. I said no 100 times and i am SO SURE no one would have let it just die but now I have a cat they care for also! He's got a few special needs like no tail and a heart murmur but he's happy and healthy. The BEST CLINIC IN HOUSTON. BY FAR. If you don't have some issue so dramatic you need specialists like Gulf Coast... then make Briargrove your every day clinic because they could not be nicer, more competent and definitely not more patient. 1 star is because: 1. My pet was initially misdiagnosed; once correctly diagnosed meds were given that caused my pet to throw up; the front desk stated medical opinions that affected my pet negatively. I asked for a vet to call me cause treatment is not going well and either a vet called or the front desk relayed a message that left me with more questions. They sell their own formulary meds at exorbitant prices. The second round of medication resulted in my pet stop eating altogether and is unable to swallow - may be due to inflammation (taking my pet elsewhere). 2. Some of the staff are polite, some are rude. When front desk answers the phone they either state the clinic name or they just say "hello". In conclusion: my pet is in far worse shape now. I hope my pet recovers after this alarming experience. I'm not going back to this place again. They push for expensive tests and overpriced medications that cause additional problems. Maybe for simple illnesses they do OK, but more involved treatment, I would not recommend this clinic. Very disappointed given the 5-star reviews I read. read more

Dr. Kurtz, thank you for taking care of our baby! Our baby had a gingival hyperplasia procedure done last week in addition to having a large mass removed from his upper mouth. As expected, he was in agonizing pain the first night. We emailed the clinic to report some vomiting and facial swelling. Dr. Kurtz had us bring him in the next morning. She provided fluids as he was not drinking and she also gave him some cocktails and changed his pain meds. She emailed us daily to check on his status. We really appreciate the care you provided for our baby!! 1 week later and he is back to normal! My heart is full! Thank you! :-) read more

They've recently completed a whole new building with added parking, that I'm looking to check out inside, once they open it up post Covid. I've found the vets are very capable, understanding and genuinely concerned with your pet, in that they will call back to check on your dog/puppy to follow-up on any recovery. I've also found at least to me they don't push you on to their products but give you good sound counsel. I also like that they don't rush you to spay or neuter right away but are understanding of the key hormonal benefits not to rush to do this procedure. The reason I don't give 5 stars is that the front desk can be a bit prickly and sometimes a lack of attention. read more

Dr. Kurtz is truly amazing. We have been seeing her since 2015. I came to her because our shihtzu had epilepsy and she actually helped us with a care plan and quality of life. She was the first person we consulted when looking at our Newfoundland. We moved to the Woodlands and will still only see her and don't mind making the trip. She doesn't make you go through unnecessary things and will be truthful while gentle and caring. Her office staff and vet techs go above and beyond, especially Shirley. This beautiful clinic is settled in between two buildings but you can't miss it because the building is a powder blue. I went there this morning because I found two baby kittens..they were SOOOO BEAUTIFUL! One of them was Ginger with blue eyes. Because I travel so much it's hard to have animals, so I went to them totally helpless, and not knowing what to do with them. They were the kindest people and they helped me out immediately. I know the kittens will be in good hands with them. I really wish I could've kept them... I hope someone gives them a good home. They were very friendly kittens. I'm glad I found the right clinic for my baby! The front desk receptionists were very welcoming to my cat Stubbert and I. They got me into a room before my scheduled appointment time and a tech (Forgot her name) followed soon after they put me in the room. The tech was excited to see Stubbert, but was very attentive and caring when checking on him! We were able to get a spot in with Dr. Kurtz fortunately and she excelled at her job! Stubbert usually gets stressed during vet visits but Kurtz made sure he was loved and cared for during his exam. After the exam we were visited again by the tech for formalities and were up front in no time! The receptionist Raquel, that checked us out, was very kind with Stubbert and I. From day 1 Dr. Kelly Kurtz has been an excellent doctor to my Vizsla Avi. She is very attentive to my concerns - but more importantly she is most attentive toward Avi's concerns - based upon how he presents on any given visit, whether routine and/or with any urgency. The other doctors there are also extremely attentive towards Avi and he has seen two of the other vets in Kelly's absence. Briargrove AC also has a very efficient staff covering many different roles - I have always been pleased with (darn, forgot his name...) one male member of her team who is designated to be with her during any exam in the event a dog doesn't take too well to a poke or a prod. This gentleman is also particularly "pet-smart" and offered a perfect solution to Avi's anxiety during one visit - something as simple as taking him outside to the Clinic's gated area in the rear so that Avi could blow off some steam that arose once when there were four other dogs in the waiting area. Taking him outside? Heck, that's not such a big deal or grand discovery? Wha? Well, the fact remains that noone else there that day had brought it up as an option, all of the other owners were (sort of) struggling to control their dogs without picking up their leashes - the point being that such a simple solution did happen to be timely and effective. It was a perfect solution that I would not have known about or thought about without his input. I highly recommend Briargrove Animal Clinic, even if it can be a bit pricey sometimes. read more

Yesterday 7/29 I finally had the procedures needed for my puppy. Dr. Skip Fix at Nottingham Animal Clinic took him as a patient after my difficulties with Briargrove. He reviewed the records and his assessment was that Teddy had been overmedicated and he saw no reason for additional cardiac workup. He neutered him, extracted 8 baby teeth that were affecting his bite and inserted the microchip. The procedures were uneventful and Teddy was fully awake on discharge home. Dr. Kurtz is the best! She is no nonsense and gets right to the point with what's going on. She also takes time to explain to you exactly what is happening in easy to understand terms. My dog Eva came in with diarrhea and lethargy and she quickly diagnosed her as having pancreatitis. She then laid out exactly what had to be done and told me how to avoid this in the future. Eva stayed there for two days to get treatment and came home much happier. The staff were really friendly and sympathetic and seemed to truly care about the animals. Great staff and great doctors. I couldn't ask for more. Dr. Kurtz genuinely cares and that's a rare quality these days. I should have written this review a long time ago, but for whatever reason I'm doing it now. The clinic has cared for three of my pets - Dux my German Shepherd, Sophie my small shepherd mix, and Zoe my Labradoodle. Sophie was only two when she suddenly started limping. I brought her to the clinic where Dr. Kurtz took blood, performed tests and recommended a bone scan. Over the next month, she was diagnosed with aggressive bone cancer. Her time was limited. The options were amputation with chemo or euthanasia. Dr. Kurtz explored these options with me and I decided to put her down. It was a gut-wrenching decision. When the day came, my wife and kids said tearful goodbyes and I drove Sophie to the clinic. Dr. Kurtz called me into the exam room and explained the procedure. I was a blubbering mess and held Sophie to the end. Dr. Kurtz gave me a hug and said how sorry she was. She and her assistant were extremely professional and caring the entire time. They even sent a card afterwards. Thank you to everyone that works there. These pets are family and you treat them that way. Keep up the great job. read more

The prices are decent so I booked an appointment the staff was very friendly and I was in and out which I like. The vet was fast and thorough but still caring. Her very small dog who was not use to stairs actually fell from a small landing in our home. He was limping around and we feared he had broke something. We knew he needed to be seen but it was already 5:15pm on Friday afternoon. I called the office and instead of getting a answering service someone actually answered. The receptionist spoke with Dr. Kurtz who said " come on in and I will take a look". We arrived by 5:45pm and Dr. Kurtz looked Cousin Biscuit (yes that is the dog's name, crazy I know) over and did a quick x-ray. Thank goodness it was not broke but even more thankful I was not pushed to the expensive 24hour ER Vet clinic like most vet clinics would have done on a Friday afternoon. read more

I highly recommend Dr. Kelley Kurtz and her team at Briargrove Animal Clinic. They took care of my beagle for over 10 years. He lived to be 16 years old. Dr. Kurtz saw him through many routine and not-so-routine situations over the years, including his last few years as his age-related issues progressed and required closer attention. She patiently coached me through his care and ever-changing circumstances, always making herself available, all the way through his final day. My little corgi pup, Bruno, is almost 11 months now and has been coming here since he was 8 weeks old (boss recommended it). Bruno loves it here...but then again, you could take him anywhere and he'd get excited. Nestled behind HEB and next to a flower store, you might miss the place if you aren't paying attention. The exterior and interior are both very outdated, but I'm fine with that because that's not what I'm paying for. I'm paying for attentive, caring, and prompt service...which is exactly what you get. The two doctors (I usually go to Dr. Smith) and are both extremely helpful, handle your dog gently, and always take the time to answer questions. They are in their late 50s/early 60s, so they've probably been practicing for over 30 years (experience = wisdom). They are old-school in their ways, but I like it because they tell it to me straight. The staff is also very professional. Tiffany, one of the nurses, is super sweet and the receptionist (sorry Gretchen P.) is friendly once she warms up to you. Bruno got neutered (aka lost his manhood) here; quick surgery, overnight supervision, and no visible scars. Also, Dr. Smith has helped Bruno's stomach recover on several instances from the random things he ingests (emergency appointments are easy to get). Their examination and vaccination prices are very reasonable and they don't try to rip you off to get unnecessary services and vaccinations. They never push you to buy their products and will only bring them up if you ask. In fact, Dr. Smith said I could get vitamins and Frontline cheaper elsewhere. They offer boarding services, something like $15-18/night, but I've never done it because they don't do doggie playtime. M-F, 8 am to 5 pm (last appointment at 4:15ish). In between, they take a really long lunch break from 10:45ish - 2ish. Maybe they all take a nap? Luckily, my work, home and vet are all within 5 minutes of each other, so it's not too much of a hassle for me to take an hour off work. My dog will always be in good hands, would definitely recommend to others. read more

Ick! The receptionist. I don't like throwing negative at the beginning of a review, especially when there are some great positives, unfortunately passive-aggressiveness in customer service is one of my pet peeves. (pun unintentional, but dorky enough to leave in) The vets are great. Both of them. They know what they're doing, they're kind to both me and "T" (one of my cat's fifteen nicknames), and they aren't terribly expensive. The last time I took my darling older cat here, I was told by the vet that she wasn't sick, she was just getting old. He ran some tests, and told me that they were most likely going to come back with the result of "x." He went over what "x" meant and also let me know that he would call me once the definitive results were back from the lab. A few days later, we spoke over the phone and he concluded by telling me that if I didn't want to buy the meds at that office, I could find them cheaper at PetSmart. I just needed to come in for the prescription. As I was busy with work, I called the receptionist to ask if the scrip could be faxed to me. She was none too pleased about me not buying the food at her office, but after three subsequent calls back, I was able to get my "sick because she was old" cat's much needed scrip. If T and I could somehow bypass the gatekeeper (receptionist lady), and move directly into the exam rooms, I would continue to bring my cat here. But no. Appointments, updated prescriptions, phone calls, waiting room stays, and payments force me to interact with the receptionist. Plus, after a few miles in a car with a cat who is extremely vocal about her disdain for travel, the last thing I want to calm my nerves with is passive aggressiveness. After more than twenty years of bringing my dears to this location with these wonderful vets, I think it's time to move on. read more

Unprofessional and Dishonest! When shopping for a place to get my pup neutered, I came to Briargrove Animal Clinic. After finding out that they charged $355 for the procedure, I ask for the rationale behind such a high cost (about four times the price of some other places). The ladies in the front office proceeded by telling me death and illness stories of other dogs at other clinics that charge so little. What a shame that a place entrusted with pets would manipulate their clientele through fear. I will not be bringing my dog back to this clinic. read more

Not only to mention that I stood at the front counter for a long while listening to the employees talk about some other man and his dog after the man had left, my 9 week old puppy was given a bordatella shot, a shot that is completely non-core (unnecessary). Since my puppy did not need shots, ear cleaning (which was my reason for going to begin with), I guess they found another reason to make money. Bordatella is a shot that is totally unnecessary. The vet also gave my puppy something to lick on a stick without telling me what the heck it was; which was quite disturbing. I was given info. from the vet herself, in which, I later learned that she was wrong because of the deep research that I had done. All in all, my puppy will not return to this clinic. Like human beings, if we get sick...we just get sick...then there is medicine then to where and if we need it at that time. read more
