Was looking for heated outdoor seating in Hells Kitchen and stumbled upon Briciola. Their outdoor area was comfortable and I saw a glimpse of the interior seating space which had a very nice rustic Italian wine bar atmosphere to it. The service was great and all of the staff were extremely friendly. I had the tuna tar tar special which was very good, but nothing special. The real winner was the mushroom and cheese bruschetta. It was an outstanding dish that I would definitely be back for. Overall I loved the restaurant and want to return soon to try their pasta dishes. read more

They should also be more mindful on what they serve before bringing it to a customers table. My partner and I didn't even realize (at first) that the bread they served was covered in mold. Very disgusting. Especially because we ate a lot of it. It was dark outside and poor lighting, so it was unfortunate that we noticed the mold too late. Service was blah. I've gone to this place a few times over the years but this was my first visit post-covid. I've always loved how cute it is with a delightful communal table, tiny bar, and now outdoor seating. The ambience makes for a romantic date night or a nice Hell's kitchen stop with a close friend. To drink, of course, there is a nice selection of wines in glass/quartini (1.5 glasses)/bottle format. For the food, we tried a few dishes including the calamari, the sauteed mussels, the rigatoni pasta with spicy grilled shrimp, and the branzino (a special). Unfortunately, the chef must have changed because the food overall was pretty underwhelming. I also think the menu is much smaller than it used to be? I used to be able to order quite a few different apps which was my favorite part but this time there were much more limited choices. I do think the branzino was probably the best dish. The pasta on the other hand should be avoided - it was very bland, undersalted and frankly I could make better at home. Overall, while Briciola still has a charming and romantic ambience, I'm pretty disappointed about the limited menu choices and the quality of the dishes. Got tied of walking around to find some place "higher rated". This smaller trattoria was good. Bar tender what's from Italy and was friendly and knowledgable. Waitress was from Russia and was nice too but was newer. I got the special of 1/2 a lobster and pasta. Lobster was smaller and grilled nicely. They put too much salt on it, but otherwise decent. Homemade pasta was fresh and very good. You can tell they made it there that day. Wine list is decent. All-in-all, it's a good place. Not the best, but definitely not the worst. Nothing was tasty, including the olive oil (tasted like plain vegetable oil). We ordered the mixed greens pear salad, shrimp scampi, truffle gnocchi, and wild mushroom truffle fettuccine. The shrimp scampi was the most flavorful out of those dishes (basil, garlic, capers), but again doused in the most boring olive oil. I could not taste the truffles in the mushroom fettuccine, and worse- it was swimming in a flavorless sauce. The truffle gnocchi was not enjoyable at all. It was like a heavy mac n cheese. A local told us this little gem is her go-to for pre-theatre dining. Wow what a good tip. We did not go inside but enjoyed sitting in the cozy parklet, which had cute lights (as is now required) and excellent heat lamps. Very comfy. Service was friendly, attentive and efficient. This was for 3 adults who like to eat and it was plenty of food. We got everything at once, which I love. The salad was so good. Often octopus is too chewy but this was tender. Lots of other good vegetables too. Probably the last octopus salad I will eat because of what I now know about them, but it WAS good. Both pastas were excellent. The gnocchi was tender, not gluey or dense. And the sauce! We really really wanted to lick our plate. It was creamy, gooey, cheesy and packed with truffle-y umami goodness. The bolognese was also excellent. I normally don't like wide noodles but you needed them for this sauce. The sauce tasted like it had been cooked with love in La Nona's kitchen for 24 hours. It was moist, tender and so flavorful. Mama Mia it was so good. The broccoli rabe was-fine. Cooked well with olive oil and garlic and a good thing to eat along with all the rich food. My husband and I thought 3-3.5 stars for the food, but the octopus salad pushed it to the next star for me! This place is very small - definitely reminded me of places in Italy. When you first walk in there's a bar that fits about 10 people and there are little cubby like areas for people only drinking wine. In the other room there a long table family style that can maybe fit 20 people (didn't really look at it). We ended up at the edge of the bar with our backs to the window so it was actually the best little cozy spot for 2. I got one of the specials and Yelp recommended items- the octopus salad. My first couple of bites were a bit chewy and I was sad as there were rave reviews, but as I got into the plate more, there was a very generous portion of octopus that was so nicely flavored and tender. It seemed like a mix of pesto sauce with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, there were some tomatoes, capers and some slices of scalloped potatoes. There were also some pieces of celery (which I hate), but I ate one and didn't even realize as it did not alter the flavor of the dish, so it was great! The bread was also very delicious with a soft chewy center and nice textured crust. The bruschetta was pretty good as well though I was too busy enjoying my octopus salad. My husband wanted to order 2 pasta dishes, but the guy, who seemed like the owner, told us not to as the pasta dishes are a good portion. That was so nice so he ordered the bruschetta instead. Good call because he was full after. I was between the wild boar pasta and the lobster ravioli - I got the latter and referred my decision. I'm not a fan of cheese raviolis in general and when they came, it was 4 pieces in "vodka sauce" that was more tomato sauce and I could not taste or see any lobster. It tasted like just regular cheese raviolis which was disappointing. Would've just gotten 2 octopus salads and called it a night! My husband was hoping for al dente pasta, but the fettuncini ai funghi pasta was overcooked and the sauce actually tasted a little watered down to me - but it was great for dipping with the bread! Didn't have any wine as we drove to the city for a show on a Tuesday, but I would love to try some next time. My son loved the bread and ordered the best meal of the 3 of us -his choice of lobster ravioli was definitely a winner. The truffle gnocchi was good, but a little to "truffle" for my taste - there was not a piece left, so the boys definitely liked it. The lambchop appetizer is a must try along with the octopus salad which wasn't too chewy. The flank steak was done a perfect medium rare. They have their own label packaging. My order is correct. The Piadina Classico comes with buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto, basil, arugula and tomatoes. It is $7.99 which is a great price for it and worth it! The prosciutto was excellent. I didn't taste basil. The arugula and tomatoes were fresh. It came with mayo (odd) and Italian dressing. The dressing was zesty and creamy. The chocolate soufflé was $11! It was delicious but overpriced for what it is. As a dessert, it is not sweet, which works for me!
