The bread is soft and thick with a firmer crust, while the slightly sweet tomato sauce is balanced out by the tang of the goat cheese. Tagliatelle bolognese (5/5) - I can't put into words what puts this above your run-of-the-mill bolognese, but something about the sauce tastes incredible and keeps one going back for more. The pasta texture is perfect! Not too al dente or overcooked. Fettuccine Al funghi (3/5) - I was surprised that this is the most popular dish at this restaurant. I didn't really taste any garlic or truffle. They were generous with the mushroom, but I found the dish generally bland. There is no table seating indoors (it's a long counter), but there are plenty of tables outdoors. The portions are a little smaller than other restaurants, so I would recommend ordering 1-1.5 entrees per person! read more

I just wish there was more room. I've had some amazing things to eat in my brief time on Earth. Briciola is responsible for serving me the greatest octopus dish I have ever eaten to date. It's the specials menu and the specials haven't changed since our first visit a few months back so hopefully you can count on this one. I love little secret hideaways in New York. I feel like they are so rare to find these days if you're not looking. Especially in New York. In midtown. We did a special occasion meal here and a random, let's just see if they'll seat us meal and got seated right away both times. This place is okay. You can certainly find a better value elsewhere (I left this restaurant still hungry), but the food isn't bad. We ordered mozzarella wrapped inside prosciutto as an appetizer, but there were only 2 inch-sized pieces along with a light salad for $14; in terms of quality, this was about average. One thing I liked about it was the pesto sauce around the plate, which went well with the mozzarella. Inside, you'll find bar seating, followed by a large community table in another room. It's fairly tight inside. I could see this being a good spot for early dinners. Ravioli Ricotta: Tasty, but for $16, I expected more than 4 raviolis. Pasta focused menu with appetizers. We had the grilled eggplant appetizer but it had way too much cheese. The stewed calamari had a good sauce but the dish would be improved by grilling the calamari instead. The pasta dishes seemed pretty basic - the shrimp rigatoni had 5 small pieces of shrimp with a watery sauce. Overall was pretty basic and wouldn't come back at these prices. read more

It's a tight space so it can feel extremely cramped if it's crowded while you wait to be seated but once you sit down you forget about the cramped space Vibe & Service : friendly and pleasant, quaint and very cozy/homey. They don't rush you, letting customers take in everything happening around them...from the ceiling to floor brick walls where the bottles of wine display themselves perfectly, a nice wine cabinet/brick-wall that divides the restaurant but with little window pockets where you can get a glimpse of the other side bringing in some light just enough so the tiny space feels more open, and the crowded but not loud dining experience where you can share an intimate conversation with your significant other or close girlfriend. A nice date spot to get in a little closer to your date. Fav dishes : octopus salad (substantial portion) and the gnocchi with tomato sauce. The texture of the gnocchi was close to the best I've had which is extremely hard to come by bc gnocchi is done wrong in so many places. Wine : ordered a bottle of Chianti Riserva (~$75) because they didn't have the cheaper Chianti in stock at the time but the bottle we drank was delicious. I liked the fact that it wasn't overly dry and went down easy. The gnocchi and wine were perfect for each other. Value : inexpensive and definitely worth the money, your calories, and time! We ordered their Ravioli Lobster with Asparagus, Penne Pasta, and Black Truffle Gnocchi. My favorite was the their simple penne pasta that came with just artichoke. It was very creamy, the flavor was excellent, and the artichokes went great with it. The pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and I as really happy with it. The other dishes were just okay. The ravioli with pasta came with some asparagus. It did not live up to the hype everyone was talking about. The dish was small and even the asparagus was sparse. The only thing I liked about it was the sauce was pretty tasty. The black truffle gnocchi was only offered in their entree size ($25). The sauce was underwhelming. It's not worth mentioning. Probably won't return: food is so so and I need to lose weight and I don't know how. This is how a country hicky goes to town -:) - Very tight space on stools - the space won't allow chairs. I was told, it was not a busy night - the kitchen staff have time with their phones. Delicious wines: Super Tuscan and Pinot Nero, Chianti is lesser of the three but passable. Decor: quite nice, exposed brick walls, woods, but the two white tile counters are hard on the eyes. And the surface isn't completely flat which worries me the entire time that my glass is going to slip and fall. Nice stems, tho. Now, food. Sardine in Saor - sardine on top of Polenta - I don't the mesh - anchovy maybe. It reminds me the story way back during President Bush the kid time - the Hainan Island Incident: an US spy plane after collided with a one of Chinese planes. The Chinese pilot died (it didn't have a parachute!) The Americans followed the other Chinese plane and forced to land in China. Make the story short, the local delicacy is fish head. And the army treated the self invited spies the fish head. I couldn't remember which news outlet reported this but the didihead didn't bother to do a little research and wrote that the spies were treated pretty badly, with only some fish heads. Hello... One of my favorite go to spots ever. This place is owned by the same people as Aria- the ambiance for briciola is more cozy and the food is always top quality. It's a nice neighborhood gem and the pasta selections are all amazing. The appetizers are also good, really can't go wrong with this place. Briciola is a must-visit every time I travel to NYC. The communal table is fun and we have always had a nice conversation with people sitting with us. It's not too much though. People seem to naturally interact just the right amount with their neighbors. The ambiance is just the cherry on top of the most delicious food. The burrata and truffle gnocchi were particularly good. And our server, Liu, was perfection. She glides through the tight space effortlessly making everybody feel welcome and comfortable. This is probably a 3.5 place for me, but I rounded this one up. Briciola is a perfect little spot for a pre or post show meal or even snack. The food isn't going to blow you away, but sharing the $16 plate of Tagliatelle Bolognese and a few glasses of wine post broadway...It was nice. I've sat inside before, it's nice and cozy. I recently sat out in there heated patio area in the front and it was nice and quiet. Would recommend stopping in if you are looking for an easy going spot near the Theater District, but not something to go out of your way for. read more

We also got the strawberry cheesecake for dessert which was fine, nothing special there, but still "good". If our experience was simply based on food, then this would easily be 4 to 4.5 stars. But the service was some of the worst I've ever had anywhere in the country. Our waiter came to our table 3 times, 1) to explain the specials, 2) to take our order 3) for the check, which I had to ask for multiple times. So more on the highlight of the night, the service. After we got done eating we sat around for about 10-15 minutes with my plate completely cleared (mind you, we only had water, it's not like we were sitting around sipping on wine/cocktails). I had to flag the waiter down to ask for dessert. We ordered dessert, even though at this point it should of been a warning sign given we literally never saw our waiter for our entire meal... about 15 minutes later, still no dessert. (which for cheesecake I assume it is pre-made? like it's not "made to order" cheesecake? But maybe I'm wrong??) I flag the waiter down again, and say "hey, can we just have the cheesecake to go and get the check now". He looked at me in disgust, looked back inside, looked back at me, and said "it's coming out right now". Flat out lie! (also refused to give me the check then???) took another 8 minutes (I timed it cause at this point it was laughable at how bad the service was and how long every step was taking). Also, once the cheesecake finally came out, I had to once again explicitly ask for the check, and once again, look of disgust... As a "warning"/notice to anyone else eating here or to management, our waiter was a; white guy, very short hair (buzz cut or almost bald), with an accent, could of been an Italian accent, but idk. What really stood out to me was the ravioli, but not in a good way. The ravioli itself was too chewy, which would have been forgivable had the sauce not tasted bad. It was incredibly bland and did not have the flavors the description on the menu purported it to have. Normally, I'll still try to finish the food, but I couldn't finish this ravioli. After a few bites, I was done. We decided not to order dessert. The table itself felt cramped. We were jam-packed onto a long communal table, that could have done with 2 less seats. We were able to snatch a walk-in reservation at around 11p. The restaurant was lively so I really had my hopes high. To start, we ordered the burrata which came with bread. Nothing too special about it, would maybe order it again. For my entree, I ordered the salmon special which came in a tomato sauce with a side of mashed potatoes. The entire meal was a disappointment. The salmon and mashed potatoes had very little flavor. They were in desperate need of salt and some richness. To top it off, the tomato sauce was incredibly sweet. The entire dish didn't make sense. It was probably one of the worst dishes I have had this year. Came here for dinner with a friend around 8pm on a Thursday and we were seated right away. My friend decided to get the Black Truffle Gnocchi from the "specials" list and I stuck with my go to of Shrimp Lentils and Polenta. Both were delicious and satisfying; my friend couldn't even finish her plate! The gnocchi came hot out the kitchen with a nice broil for color and flavor. My shrimp were cooked to perfection and the lentils and polenta were just enough to not leave me hungry. I've been here plenty of times before and I really don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. I only wish the place was bigger so I wouldn't advise coming with a large group. We have been to Bricola one other time, but tonight will be the last. Walking in we were greeted by the same guy that was there before. I'm assuming the owner. We asked to see a dessert menu and he told us what there were and pointed to a row of seats at the end of the bar right when you walk in from outside. But we didn't want to sit there and since we have had a bite there before we said why not, let's eat again. I really really wish we had just walked out. The food was horrible. The owner guy was just rude. The only other people in the room were talking very loudly about doing drugs and the effects on the male anatomy while doing so. I understand everyone is hurting but this is a meal you could find from a school cafeteria. Take the rigatoni e gamberi pictured below - it's got some ragu like sauce and three tiny shrimp mixed in. It tastes as bad as it looks. Unfortunately, this was the theme for all the dishes. They are obviously cutting corners on the ingredients and probably have a busboy doing double duty as the "chef". I was honestly just so uncomfortable with the setting. They seat you at a very long bar table with every other party (which I get, that's the setting and ambience they were going for) but they should at least space it out a little more because I was constantly bumping elbows with the people on my side literally all night long. It was so crowded I could barely get onto my stool and the waiters were constantly brushing against my back because there was no walking space behind us either. I could barely hear what my friend was trying to say to me across the table and there is literally 0 intimacy or space unless you're fortunate enough to score the end of the table. Aside from the rowdy setting, the food is very decent. I wasn't so impressed, but it was still good. We ordered the fettuccine ai funghi which was very good, very flavorful although I couldn't taste so much of the truffle. The gnocchi was delicious but I got tired of it toward the end. Overall, 4/5 for food, service and wine. I liked this place, and if I had to sum it up in two words, I would say, "Not bad." It does have a small amount of indoor seating, so you will be dining close to the people next to you if you're at the high top inside. This is probably a good first date spot; it has very reasonable prices for ambiance, food and wine. We got a bottle of the chianti to share which was good. Tortelloni d'Aragosta: 3/5 Lobster ravioli; This was my least favorite of the three pasta dishes. I felt like there was not much lobster flavor at all. However, it was still a filling portion with the doughy ravioli and sauce. Fettucine a Funghi: 5/5 My favorite! This pasta was fresh tasting and had a strong mushroom flavor in a creamy sauce with perfect silky noodles. Satisfying and flavorful. Gluten Free Pasta with Salsiccia Rapini: 4/5 Good but not great. The gluten free pasta was penne so that was kind of a bummer (idk why I don't like penne unless in a saucier dish). The sausage was sweet and spicy and flavorful, but there wasn't much either broccoli or sausage. I felt like it needed just one more scoop of the toppings to make this more balanced. Briciola is a great wine bar find in Hell's Kitchen. What really caught my eye was the pricing as Italian in NYC tends to be way pricier. For pastas at $16, I was sold. I had the Fettuccine with the wild mushrooms and truffle oil- pretty delicious! I am a huge fan of anything with truffle oil, so I was easily convinced this dish was going to turn out great and sure enough it was. They serve bread as well, but it didn't come with any olive oil or balsamic vinaigrette so I recommend you ask unless you want just plain, cold bread. I do want to warn those looking for a more intimate dinner, because you won't find that here. There is one long dinner table for those dining in, then there's the bar separate. They typically sit you across from each other, so don't expect to sit next to your date. We didn't mind this, but you will hear the conversations around you and people will hear yours so just beware when you're considering Briciola. All together, I'd love to come back next time I'm in town solely for the wild mushroom, truffle oil pasta. read more

They microwave some of their food. Although the flavor is very good the texture of the food was very bland because it wasn't freshly made. I also had chocolate lava cake, I saw that go right into the microwave before it landed in front of me. This place is very popular, and I would assume it is because of the ambiance, and possibly the wines (they have a huge selection). Briciola is by far my favorite wine bar in Manhattan. It's my go-to place for good food and good wine in Hell's Kitchen. It's such a tiny space so sometimes you have to wait to get seats but if you don't mind sitting in a cramped bar area, you're almost certain to get seated right away. My favorite dishes are the Pulpo (Octopus) salad (so tender and tasty!) and the Mushroom pasta - so rich and delicious! They also give you a generous portion for wine so it's well worth the price.
