My boyfriend and I had just finished a hike in Ridley Creek park and we're craving an iced cold beer and some snacks. We'd just been in the area for Labor Day and remembered this place. Easy parking, even in the middle of the work week. Walked into a quiet crowd. Bellied up to the bar and had a good time. Beers were cold and hit the spot. I ordered a flatbread special of the day, nice and crispy crust, lots of prosciutto and Brussels which is exactly what I was in the mood for! My boyfriend got the house burger. Where I wasn't a huge fan, nothing to write home about, he was happy. I loved the fries (are they twice cooked?!) and the house made ketchup....STFU. I think we used over half a bottle!! We also ordered the fried pickles as a starter. I was expecting the usual rings of pickles but instead got these amazingly crunchy ribbons! Definitely ordering them again. My wife and I come to Brick & Brew at least a couple times per month since it opened. That is an indicator it is our go to place in Media. What attracts us is that it is an ideal blend of cocktails, beer, food, service and ambience. The bartenders make a great drink, the servers are friendly/responsive and the food is very solid. This review is only related to my last visit there yesterday for lunch at the Media location. I have been to Brick & Brew many times before and have always had a good experience. However, I have to say I was disappointed yesterday with their "Caesar Salad." I was told by our waiter that the salads were big, and being that it was $12 that sounded reasonable. Yet when I got my salad it was a huge bowl with a small lump of salad in the middle. At most the bowl was 1/3 full, probably less. I am glad I ordered grilled chicken on top (for an extra $5) or I would have been starving. Also, it is not romaine lettuce and, other than using Caesar dressing, is nothing like a Caesar salad. But it tasted very good and it was fresh. Just be aware that if they tell you the salads are big, do not believe them at least when it comes to the Caesar salad. I guess this is my punishment for trying to eat better. read more

I had lunch at B&B today, and I will definitely go back. The decor is was well done and the place was pretty packed even for being towards the end of your typical lunch rush -- which I might expect from a restaurant in the borough that just opened this week. I really liked that the bar area was so large and had a lot of seating, although I did find sitting at the area nearest the door just a little awkward when people entered or exited. The drink menu was voluminous, although I do wish they had a larger draft beer selection. The menu was creative and adequate in size. I ordered the Crab PLT that comes with fries. The fries were fresh, not frozen, and well salted. I really enjoyed them. The homemade ketchup was also a nice touch. The Crab PLT was good, but for me was a little more sweet than I'd have hoped. In spite of that, it was obvious that high quality ingredients were used. The fried tomatoes gave it a really nice crunch. As for the service, it could have been a little more attentive at the bar, but I understand they were busy and just opened so they're working out the kinks. The staff was friendly. Overall, I'm looking forward to going there again in the future and trying a new dish. read more

This review dates back to our first experience here in late summer. Probably 6 weeks after they opened? Read below and know that I'll probably go back once they iron out the kinks. Of course this will be without children since the place is not baby or toddler friendly. Atmosphere: Wow! Great job on transforming the ol' plum into something more modern. FOOD: Wings were ok. The burger sliders? They were gnarly. It looked like someone took some white stroehmans rolls from acme and dumped some Marsala wine sauce on ground beef. yuck. The fried chicken sandwich? This was ok. The aoli lacked flavor and 'punch' and the chicken was overly greasy. KID FRIENDLY: Nope. They don't have a kids menu. Don't provide high chairs and are not accommodating to families with small children or infants. OK this is fine. But make that clear at the beginning rather than have folks wait 30 minutes or "as long as it takes" and then state "Oh we don't have high chairs" Parents with new babies or little ones have a myriad of options to choose from in Media... It's ok if you don't want to be one of those places, but make that clear. To me there is a level of pomposity and arrogance in not having staples like ketchup. Personally I loathe ketchup, so I get it.. But again, if you want to accommodate your customers (how many children AND adults love ketchup?) don't assume everyone likes your super secret house sauce which tasted medicinal and overly herbed to me. My advice to the management team? If you want to succeed in downtown Media on this hyper-competitive street? Listen to your customers. After the new smell wears off you'll still need to generate significant revenues to stay in business. Hopefully you can work through the opening month kinks and properly hire and train some staff. I know it's a challenge to find good help in that realm but they are out there! As I said at the beginning of my review I'll probably venture back at some point. But it would be without the kids and probably just for a drink or two and a pizza at the bar. There are just too many other quality places in town to spend your hard earned money at this time. Wow! What a unique addition to the already awesome state street! The ambiance is original. The theme is a trolley and set on tracks. The lighting is elegant and it appears very spacious. They have outdoor seating , which is not on a sidewalk , is a PLUS for state street. The service was on point. The bartenders offered suggestions. The bar has an interesting design. The wife and I have been hearing a lot of great things bout this place, so we finally checked it out yesterday. I'm in love. Can I please live there? It has a low-key, foodie vibe, with a bit of neghborhood bar thrown in for good measure. Exposed brick walls and a brick oven rehabbed to look like a whiskey barrel are great finishing touches. Now let's get to the drinks. Let me preface this by saying my wife does NOT drink any alcohol but cider. She hates the taste of most other spirits. She took a risk based on a great description, and she ordered the Whiskey Sour. She was in love right away. A nice smoky bourbon flavor, and a garnish of brandied cherries. I went for the Speakeasy: Tito's vodka, wildflower honey, freshly-picked mint, and homemade hibiscus lemonade. I will drink this concoction like water until I die. It was THAT good. Oh, you want to know about the food? You're not prepared for how good it is. We started off with some fried pickles, expecting them to be the usual mushy spear covered in batter. We were so wrong. They come thinly shaved, like zucchini slices. They are delicious by themselves, but dipping them into the spicy aioli takes them beyond. For the main course, we decided on the Sprout pizza. We are both obsessive about brussels sprouts, so we were pretty excited. It has a nice, malty crust, and it's topped with shaved brussels sprouts, fingerling potatoes, feta, mozzarella, garlic spread, and white balsamic glaze (we opted out of the pancetta, because...vegetarians). This is my new favorite pizza. I was skeptical of the potatoes,and I am notoriously picky about my food not fitting certain parameters. I was convinced to go off-book and try this out, and I was amply rewarded. We wanted to order another, but we decided not to be gluttons. We should've ordered another. Last but not least, our server, Chris, was awesome in every way. He was quick, pleasant, and charming in every way. We had a wonderful time. The ambience was rustic and warm. We got there by 4:00pm on a Saturday and secured seats at the bar. It was a good idea to arrive early, because by 5, the place was packed. The prosciutto fries appetizer was so good, think putine taken to the next level! I also recommend the sausage pizza and pretzels. I went to Brick and Brew with high hopes. I've heard great things about it on the Media facebook page, and some of my coworkers are HUGE fans of the Havertown location. We waited 40 minutes to be seated. Not that big a deal. I knew what we were getting in to when we decided to go, so the wait time is not factoring into the star rating I'm giving, but I think others should be aware that if you are going at or around dinner time, you will wait (the people coming in with parties of more than two were given a 2-hour wait time). When we were seated, we were taken to a high top round table for two in the bar area. I typically am not picky about my seats, but I was annoyed that I was going for dinner and was sitting on a bar stool with no back and nowhere to put my purse. The bar stools and table were incredibly wobbly, which kind of made me feel like I was about of fall off at any given moment. The table was barely large enough for our water glasses and small appetizer plates, and whenever one of us had to grab the table for stability from our bar stools, our drink would spill since the table was equally wobbly. Then we noticed that my date's silverware was dirty. Not like some dishwasher spots. Full on dirty with food bits stuck to the fork. He brought it to the waitresses attention, and she switched it out quickly, but still. It was off-putting. We were told when we got there that they were out of a majority of their specials, and all of the beers listed in their menu, and that we should check the board by us for the most up to date beer list. Fine, whatever, they're popular, so it wasn't that big of a deal. Apparently their specials run Monday through Sunday and in the waitresses words, "if you come on Sunday, they're out of most things". Sounds like a not-great system, but whatever. There are no prices on any of the drinks. I ordered the Strawberry Fields cocktail, which was about 5 sips worth of alcohol and costs $9.50 (I found out when it was on the bill later). My date ordered a whisky sour which was more expensive than my cocktail, but at least he got more alcohol in his glass. Their whisky sours are apparently "award winning". I have had many whisky sours, and I will say, this one was okay. The whisky they used had a very spiced flavor to it, which some may enjoy, but it wasn't really my favorite. My date didn't try my drink out of fear that he would drink half of it if he took a small sip (small portions and all). We kept trying to order appetizers and kept being told that they were out of all of the ones that we wanted to order, so we finally decided to just go with the Prosciutto Fries. I will give them credit for these fries. They were awesome, and when I give this place a second chance in the future, I will definitely get them again. Seriously, they were really good. Although, there was no prosciutto in them. Or if there was, it was chopped so small in the fondue that it couldn't be tasted. Regardless, they were awesome, and I recommend them. They also came out super quick - like less than 10 minutes after we ordered them. Then we waited about 40 minutes for our entrees to be served. I got the Crab PLT for dinner, which also came with fries (we were so panicked with being told they didn't have any of the apps we wanted, that I wasn't even thinking about this when ordering). It was alright. Not good. Not great. I couldn't taste the crab on it at all, and also could not taste the "million island" dressing at all. There was also apparently pancetta on there. Didn't taste that at all either. All I could taste was the fried green tomato that was breaded (obviously), and the roll. So it tasted like tangy breaded stuff on bread. But again, the fries were good. It was $14. My date got the Bison Roundups, which he enjoyed very much. They also came with fries. However, if you are hungry and don't want to just fill up on fries I wouldn't suggest this meal, as it's basically an appetizer portion with fries on the side. Tasty, but not incredibly filling. Luckily, we had all the fries we could ever hope and dream for. I don't remember the cost of his meal. Total, we paid about $78 for our bill... while sitting on wobbly bar stools, balancing half of the stuff from the table on our laps because the table wasn't big enough, while screaming at each other over the 5 million people who were yelling at the bar, the music, and the noises from the kitchen. Not my favorite experience. However, I will give this place a second chance. Perhaps after it's been open for a while and the craze dies down a little bit. I would say maybe I'll come here for more Prosciutto Fries one day at happy hour, but they don't do a special happy hour, and I don't want to go broke from drinking $10 cocktails. read more

Nothing was right, nothing was good. Started off by ordering a Capone. However, it was carbonated, which wasn't described on the menu. Upon telling the waitress, she said "we don't take drinks back, because all of the ingredients are already used." Escalated to manager whom said "there is only a little bit." From there the adventure begins! Ordered the burger medium, it came out well done 2x, and medium well the 3rd. I gave up and just ate it. It wasn't good. My vegetarian wife ordered the Melanzana (eggplant pizza), was given Fig Parma (bacon pizza). We were given a skillet cookie desert which wasn't very good for our troubles. The entree I ordered was distasteful to me, which is fine, but when I spoke to the manager he took it back, but didn't take it off the order. Food gets 4 stars, service gets 3 as they are still working out the kinks at this new Media location! We started with the fried mac n cheese balls- YUM! The dipping sauce is awesome, and they are served with a drizzle of hot sauce. Can't go wrong with these. I was impressed with the charcuterie- very generous portions, plenty for two people. The Picante pie lives up to its name- those peppers are hot! My one complaint is that they burnt the mozzarella cheese on top...definitely a bummer for me. This is where I was disappointed with service. Our waitress was pretty absent, though nice. We were seated at the high top bar right by the pizza oven and saw our pie sitting there for awhile, long after we had finished our appetizers. Finally the bakers realized that we were ready for it, and they asked us if that's what we had ordered. Ultimately we had to get it to-go, as we had already been waiting for quite some time.
