It was on a hot Saturday afternoon that I was about to pass out due to heat exposure and starvation. I thought to myself is this how I'm really going to go out? However, in the distance I saw this pizza joint that I thought to myself could either save me or kill me. Unfortunately, it killed me guys it was definitely a miss, but for the pricing it at least kept the pocket happy. This is that pizza that is straight up goofy pizza. My daughter comes here to play the games while we enjoy the tv's and good food, but, it seems they make more money off the games that don't work well and take your money! I asked if they can open it and give her the toy she won, as it got STUCK on the claw, but the girls at the register said they supposedly don't have a key and gave my daughter a ONE dollar refund... yet she put in more than 5 dollars to try to get it off the claw. I've worked at a pizza place with games and we had a key for all games to fix issues, so I'm not sure what the "issue is" here. I was craving a calzone for lunch the other day and found Brick Shack on Doordash and delivered to my job! When ordering a calzone, you have the option to get two toppings inside, but I just wanted plain cheese. You also get to choose a side salad with your calzone which I think is a nice touch. They had my food prepared quickly and the doordash driver was able to drop it off before the anticipated arrival time! The calzone was large and delicious- however I wasn't anticipating there to be sauce inside with the cheese. Now I know for next time what to expect. Came here on vacation and was close to our hotel and decided to give it a try. Interior reminded us of an old Pizza Hut, but the girl at the counter was very nice and food came out pretty fast. Here's a couple of notes re the menu: -The wings are decent but pretty small but flavor is decent (I got mango habenero). -Jalapeño poppers came out cold so they were just ok. -Wife has gotten pasta before (chicken Alfredo) and said it was meh and same goes for salads. -Pizza is where they shine. We got a 14" meat pizza for two of us and it was perfect (with the small wings and cold poppers). These ingredients looked fresh, cheese was hot and gooey just like you want and the bread was nice and soft. Can't ask for much more than that. As far as the building, plenty of room and feels like an old Pizza Hut. Good spot for a kid bday party or meeting up after a tball game or something. I waned to LOVE it! Note: we will be back in June to give it another go... when the Beer is flowing... Now for the rest of the story: In the mood for a traditional "pizza joint experience" with our friends, and having driven past the cute brick building many times... we headed over to Brick Shack Pizza. Before arriving, we yelped it and from the photos we saw authentic super thick hardwood tables and TV's with sports playing, perfect for a hangout with friends! Passing the front of the building and Pulling into the parking lot, we noticed that the windows had been tagged with graffiti, none of the beer advertisements in the windows were lit, the place was dark and uninhabited... just three workers & one patron. We pulled in, parked and went in to check it out. A little alarmed to see a "B" rating from the Health Department, I peaked my head in, asking if they were open. I was given a strange look and a yes. OK, then... I unloaded the family and headed inside to wait for the other half of our party. Once Inside, and seated at the super badass old school wood table, watching the Dodgers game... we headed to the counter to order a pitcher of beer. Nope.... not this time. Under new ownership, the beer license has yet to be renewed. Alright... well... we will wait. As we waited, we noticed the salad bar (wife's favorite part of a pizza joint) was empty and pushed against the wall. We didn't see any fountain soda... and then noticed they sell soda by the 2 Liter. There is a convenience store across the street... so I asked if it was OK if I walk over and bring back some Beer and Fountain Soda for our party. Was told No... due to liability reasons. What appeared to be the new owner informed us that they should be fully up and running with Beer in June. That being said... we headed back to the car to research our next pizza joint experience. This is the text sent to our friends to let them know we will be moving: "Kinda jenky... new owners. No Beer! And they won't let us bring it from next door either. Interesting place... and I am curious how the pizza is... Should we Order to-go and eat & drink at the park ;) ???" Giving this place 3 stars for the environment and the very friendly staff. The jalapeño poppers are pretty good! We ordered a pizza and it was undercooked. They popped it back in the oven and it didn't taste too much better afterwards, but definitely less chance of getting a tummy ache. Also had the garlic cheesy bread. Flavorful and yummy but nothing special. We asked for a few sides of ranch and after the second, they were going to charge us which is always a let down (but they didn't so that was cool). I was really mislead by all the good reviews here. This pizza is bland, thin, limp, and skimped on toppings. It kept ripping in half when I tried to pull a slice out, very annoying. I'm surprised because the pictures here are of nice looking pies. My favorite pizza place is closed due to COVID and in downtown La Verne, so I'm trying to find a place closer to home. This is NOT it. I will stay though, that the ambience is nice. It has a nice outdoor area, TVs, and an arcade. So until today I frequented this location....best wings in the area, large meaty and as long as you ask for well done and wet they are perfect. Ordered usual 14 Buffalo. 8 teriyaki, and a mini pizza. Mind you they don't repeat your order or show it to you when you pick up (both things I highly recommend management adopt into policy before more guests end up dissatisfied). Called to place order, girl answered with just a hello, no name, no business name, just hello. Took my order over the phone, which I repeated to confirm. Arrived paid for and picked up, already packaged and tied up (should be reviewed with person and then bagged up). Got home to find 14 Buffalo. 8 Buffalo and zero teriyaki. Called back and another girl answered phone, said Brick Shack but not her name. Told her issue and she said well let me get person that took your order! Really.....like you can't just say ok let me fix it for you, or sorry or anything. Original girl gets on phone, again with just a hello, apologizes asks me if I want teriyaki wings....ummm yes its what I ordered. Then asks me if I will pick up, yes I will. She said ok. Didn't give me a time or how long so I had to ask her before she hung up, she said 10 minutes. OK fine it's down the street so no problem. Get there 15 minutes later and have to wait about 5 minutes. (Yes I know this part everyones going to say I should have checked, but again boxed and bagged when given to me.) Get the wings home for my wife and there's barely any teriyaki on them at all. Management really needs to dial in some operational expectations. As someone who managed in food service from store level to multi-unit and regional levels this is a very poor outlook.
