So glad we finally tried brickland bistro. We were stunned by the inspired brunch menu, friendly staff, and pleasantly surprised to find they even have a pup menu! Loved sitting on the shaded dog friendly patio. The mimosa bottle price was too good to pass up. I got the aguacates (avocado toast three ways). Toppings were delicate and abundant, I only wish I had a little more toast to carry it all! My wife got the brickland rumi. Rich tomatoes and spices, topped with perfectly poached eggs. Again, only wish we had a little more pita to soak up all of the goodness! Can't wait to return and try the dinner service as the inside interior is tasteful with a full bar. The food was excellent. We ordered the New York Strip (Medium Rare. anything more than that is an international crime), chicken kebabs, med frees, and Mediterranean Fries. We decided to try a new to us restaurant for a family birthday dinner. We made reservations online ahead of time and there were plenty of openings. I really wish I could give this place more stars than I am. We got there at 6pm on a Sunday and the parking lot was pretty empty. When we were greeted by the host they didn't seem to be aware of the reservation, and said they would go push a couple of tables together for the five of us. My first impression was that the restaurant looked nice, was well-decorated and had a good atmosphere but the host seemed a little disorganized. We were seated in the bar area. We were the only patrons on that side of the restaurant. They had music playing and we could still hear chatter from the other side of the restaurant so it wasn't too eerily quiet, plus we had each other to talk to. Our server was also the bartender, and she was very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, they were out of some of the ingredients to make the cocktail my sister-in-law ordered, so the bartender offered some substitutes and the drink turned out ok. We were going to do a toast but our cocktails all came out at slightly different times, so we just kind of improvised. The drinks all tasted good at least! We ordered the large seasonal salad for the table. It was plenty of salad to share between 5 people, but it took a long time to come out even though they weren't very busy. We also had to ask for utensils to serve the salad. The upside is that the salad was really tasty! The entrees followed not too long after the salad. My first impression of the entrees before we even tried them is that all the portions were very small. My sister-in-law's ribeye steak was disappointingly thin, and it did not have much color on the outside. After trying all of our entrees, the flavors were good but everything was overdone. The short rib was tender but very dry. The rack of lamb was very small, and the lamb had no color on the outside either. The rigatoni didn't have enough sauce. My mother-in-law also said her salmon was overdone. We were there for a special occasion so we ordered dessert as well. The tiramisu was delicious, and the hazelnut crème brûlée was good but definitely far from a traditional take on it. Overall, I was underwhelmed by the whole experience. I could see coming back for a drink or a casual lunch (their salads and sandwiches sounded good), but they didn't have their dinner service quite up to par. I'm not sure we'll be going back very soon. read more

Came here for happy hour with some girlfriends, got here around 4. We stood inside waiting to be seated for almost 10 minutes, even though it was very slow. We asked to sit outside and we were allowed to. The food and drinks were delish, just slow service. I wish she would have came back to check on us so we could have had another drink, but she only came back when the food came out it. It had been almost 45 min and we had somewhere else to be, so we ate the food quickly. The patio and restaurant itself was lovely! read more

Ambient setting great for dates with yourself or others. I had the Mantu dumplings with a yogurt sauce. My main entree was Kabuli Palow and the beef was incredibly tender and delicious. I have wanted to try this restaurant for some time. I am newer to Sac and not been here when it was 33rd Bistro. More intimate setting than what I had imagined. Once a month the restaurant has a wine pairing event. This month wines were paired with three Afghan dishes from the menu. What a delight! Each of the three dishes was paired with three wines. Each dish was AMAZING! The service was excellent for this large group of 30-40 people. The menu is diverse with both traditional American and Afghan dishes. I stopped in for dinner after visiting Wild Sisters Bookstore next door. The reviews were promising and it didn't look busy. I got seated immediately and it took a while for someone to greet me or being water. I placed my order and thankfully the hostess was helping out because I'm not sure if I would gotten any service. Awesome place. Pretty big without feeling oversized. I sat at the bar and got great service from Carey. She was super friendly and always kept my water glass full. The restaurant seating was spacious and quiet. The decor was delightful - check out the world map in the bar created by the owners children. Seven of us ate very happily indoors and the outdoor spaces also looked pleasant. The outside diners seemed satisfied. The food was outstanding. Delicious crab cakes, samosas and mantu (try them!). My New York steak was outstanding. Cooked perfectly (medium rare), the mashed potatoes smooth and flavorful and the broccolini just the way I like it. The desserts were superb. The beef patty was crispy on one side and not as cooked on the other side. The burger was-not cooked consistently. The pesto fries appetizer were pretty good. This spot seems overpriced for its food. Sat outside on the outdoor patio. I can't complain about the service, Kristian was cool. There was a homeless man walking by that instantly killed my appetite. He walk to the side of the restaurant and decided to urinate just steps from me. Be prepared, the area is sketch at night. I will have second thoughts before deciding to come back. read more

I can't say enough great things about Brickland Bistro. The food, service and atmosphere were all wonderful. I had a large group of friends. More than 10 people out for dinner. The staff accommodated the large group without hesitation. Our server Roman and his crew took great care of us. They were attentive, kind and fast. The food was unique and delicious with every bite. We started with meatball and waygu sliders for appetizers. Great way to start the evening. Everyone then ordered their own plate. I had the saffron chicken dinner and licked the plate. It had a pumpkin purée with the chicken seasoned perfectly. It was served with spinach rice. Outstanding! Moved to the area earlier this year and have driven by many times, finally tried this last week. Nice intimate size - right when you walk in they have a coffee bar serving Temple coffee. Espresso Martini was delicious! We tried the beef dumplings as an appetizer, and got the lamb shank special with polenta. Polenta was perfect, buttery with a nice pan fried crust, and the lamb fell off the bone. Service was great, don't see a lot of afghan cuisine but I love the flavors. Wow does the nostalgia ever hit you when you open the door. It's really hard not to make comparisons to the previous restaurant especially with some very similar menu items. I loved that they bumped the walls out opening up the banquet area, moving the bar, and adding more light. I also appreciate the removal of the high tops. They are still tweaking the hours and the menu, but We heard that breakfast and happy hour are in the works! Our experience and food were both good. We had a range of menu items and all agreed we had made some delicious choices. I ordered the ahi and pesto fries which were both nicely presented and tasty. The pizzas and salads were also good. Our preference was for the chicken pizza with it's yummy white sauce. While we can't go back in time, you can check them out and make a new friend! read more

The sliders are just ok, and the fries are expertly done, but the cheapskate in charge of buying condiments has decided to replace whatever good ketchup they had with some cheap crap that I won't eat! All they have to do to screw it up even worse is replace the one good beer they have with Pabst or Budweiser and they will have removed every single reason I have to spend a single cent there. We had a wonderful experience for my child's high school graduation dinner. Classy, inviting atmosphere with kind, welcoming, knowledgeable staff. As a vegetarian, I was very impressed by the Cauliflower 'Steak' - umami, a bit spicy, and surrounded by flavorful vegetables. Our graduate declared their Brickland Burger to be the best hamburger they'd ever had. My aunt greatly enjoyed the Poppin' Proscuitt flatbread.
