I finally was able to get to write a review. We went to Zocalos for Easter Brunch. Everything was great from being greeted by an Easter Bunny who was sporting some swag and handing out some chocolates. We were started with the most delicious little pineapple cakes, chips, two salsas, guacamole, and yummy black beans and chips. We were sad that there was no Cafe de Olla. We ordered sunny side up eggs with chilaquiles red (Spicy) came with rice and beans they were so yummy; a chile verde very savory and tasty with rice and beans; a huge burrito with bacon and eggs; a Arrachera, that was equally as tasty and a brunch bowl. The place was clean also the restrooms. Our server was spectacular! She was always checking on us. We ordered a flan with 5 spoons we were so full from our delicious meals but we had to have the flan. This wasn't our first visit to Zocalo, but we still had some of our favorites. Enchiladas Molé and Ceviche Verde. The flavor of both were great. No wonder it's their house favorite and Michelin recommended. The atmosphere is inviting per the usual. Presentation of the enchiladas could have been better being that there was a dirty rim. And of course it was topped with a margarita, which is always a good choice. The staff is welcoming and accommodating. And even other servers, Dillon, thanked us for visiting. I had high hopes for this place. I did think that the tacos were the highlight of my meal. Each taco I ordered was yummy and had all the right things going for it. The rice and the beans were also a smash, I could just eat that as my meal. I did love the chips and salsa & black beans for the table. The chips and the black beans were the ultimate combo. Where they started to fall off for me was the service. We actually asked 3 separate times for more chips and dip, and we never got it. We had a party of 7 on a Tuesday night. The place had multiple other large groups with birthdays and graduation parties. Service was excellent as was the food. Most of us had tacos. We came in on a Monday around 7:30pm. The restaurant was not crowded at all. The air conditioning seemed to be on full blast. The restaurant is very modern and has a really cool bar area when you enter. Our server was nice and friendly and checked on us often. We ordered a blackberry margarita and a smoky mezcalita. Both drinks were great. We ordered the carnita tostadas appetizer and the chicken mole enchiladas. The meat on the tostadas was overly salty when eaten by itself but perfectly cooked. When eaten with the whole tostada it was delicious. The mole sauce was a little sweeter than I was accustomed to, but it also was tasty when eaten with everything. Came for an early lunch and luckily it wasn't busy and I was able to sit at the bar. I was instantly greeted and served *free* chips and salsa. The chips are fresh and the salsa had a nice spice (which out being excessive). We only came for drinks so I won't speak on the food this time (but it all looked amazing as servers walked by). I went to Zocalo with my wife, my daughter and her boyfriend last night and we really enjoyed it. I thought the service was excellent. My wife had a delicious Mojito drink that had a mango flavor. They served as chips and like a bean purée and salsa which was also good and then Our waiter John our hostess Shelly they were excellent. The food came out so quick. I couldn't believe it I had three enchiladas one with Molay one with red sauce and one with green sauce, two shrimp and one chicken. I couldn't eat it all, but it was delicious. I would highly recommend it. Not just the service but the ambience was great too. They have a full bar very spacious in area we have the option to sit inside or outside. The parking was great too. It was plenty of parking right off front. We could practically see our car from where we were sitting. In addition check out some of the meals. My wife had the tacos. My daughter had tacos. I was very disappointed in the service that we received at the Zocalo's on Howe, especially when the service is so great at the one in Downtown Sacramento. My close friend had her graduation party here for 60 people on Saturday and we were not impressed. She said that they the food was supposed to be unlimited and that we would receive more food when the trays were empty. I sat in the middle of the table of 20 people. I ate one chicken taco and the staff asked to clear my plate as soon as I was done. I was very confused. The servers put 1 tray of chicken tacos next to us, 1 tray of fish tacos kind of close to us, and 1 tray of carne asada tacos down at the end of the table of 20 people. They served the chicken and fish tacos to the people at the end but didn't bring us any carne asada tacos. They also didn't bring any beans or cilantro lime rice out. Now let's be real, the best thing they have at Zocalo's is the cilantro lime rice. I had to tell my friend that they didn't bring seconds of the tacos and didn't bring out the rice and beans, which she didn't notice because she was preoccupied with her party. I would definitely not recommend having a party here. The staff did not even notice that they missed some items on the menu. They offered a $40 refund when the gratuity on the bill was $600 alone. It was a 20% gratuity on the bill which is absolutely ridiculous considering people ate 1-2 tacos and they didn't even bring us any enchiladas. read more

Sat down at the bar, dressed in a tuxedo, waiting for a drink, waitress comes up to me, and first thing she ask is "are you okay"? She then gives me the menu, comes back and ask "was your day okay"? She chose very condescending way to ask how someone is doing, not a very good way to welcome someone into your bar/restaurant. I'm giving 4 stars bc it's Zocalo and the food is always great. However, we went last night and had a poor experience overall. Ordered our son's meal, and ceviche to start, with 2 entrees to follow. And a cocktail for my wife. My wife's entree came out first, so we asked for them to take it back since it was sequenced out of order. Then they brought out the ceviche, and our son's order, which was fine. Around 5-10 minutes later, my wife's entree came back out, cold. Obviously the same plate, not replated or warmed back up, just cold to the touch. Around 5min later, we got her cocktail. I then waited at least 15 minutes for my entree to come out. When we said something about the weird timing, our waitress replied that mine takes longer to cook. So we sat there and waited. So 15min later our waitress came to check on us and when I brought it up, she had no solution, and was just kind of like "yeahhhh sorry about that". So we asked for her to just box my entree to go, since at that point they already made last call. As a sorry, she offered us free churros. So, the whole dinner was screwed and she offered us fried dough as a sorry. And then brought a bill for the full amount. So I paid full price to eat in, ended up getting cold to go food and paid $107 for it. The only thing we can think, is that she screwed it up and didn't escalate it to mgmt to take care of us somehow. As a past server, I've seen it happen and know how it works. It's literally, probably the only time I've done a 0 tip in my life. If she would have escalated it to mgmt and they would have taken something off, etc, I'd still have tipped decently. Needless to say, we'll probably just stick to the Folsom location. read more
