My husband and I love walking to Brics for a summer treat. The location is sweet-right off the Monon. I have tried the black raspberry chip, which was delicious. The second time we went that flavor wasn't available so we had Monon tracks, essentially moose tracks. The ice cream is pretty standard, meaning it doesn't stand out in a world of homemade and artisan desserts. Flavor varieties are very classic. The shop can get fairly loud and chaotic inside. If you or someone you are going with is sensitive to loud or overstimulating environments, I would recommend using the outside ordering window. I still give it five stars because the experience has never been bad, and it is a charming spot. read more

If you like hard packed ice cream, this is THE place. It is in a cute old train station, with both outdoor seating and indoor seating, depending on your preference. I haven't been disappointed with a single trip here. It is right on the monon so a quick stop if you are going on a nice walk. One of the things I enjoy the most is the walk up window they have for those individuals with dogs. In addition to accommodating our dogs, they also provide this adorable bone treats for them, which mine loves! What a perfect icecream shop! I came with a friend here 2 weeks ago. The store is so cute and I love the patio area and how readily you can stroll down the Monon or walk around Broad Ripple with your waffle cone. Sadly, I just didn't think their ice cream was great quality. It was not very rich and creamy tasting. The price is good though. I annoyingly tried about 6 flavors and was not too enthusiastic about any of them. I got the chocolate chip cookie dough with a waffle cone. It was decent, but I expected more rich flavor. Another sweet stop off the Monon in Broad Ripple. It is admirable that they stayed true to the history of the building, the Broad Ripple train station, in that the interior motif as well as some of the flavor names are train and train station related. My favorite or my addiction is Whistle Stop Wake Up, an espresso ice cream with dark chocolate espresso bits. I love it's creamy coffee flavor while the bits give it the texture to bite into. Don't like coffee? Then get busy and find the flavor for you, as they have, give or take, 25 flavors from which to choose. On top of that, they have mix ins and sundae creations and beverages and baked goods. Their pricing is comparable to the rest in the market. They have some very friendly staff who give out smiles and glasses of water to go along with your ice cream. Brics is a great place, don't get me wrong... however, I went in just a couple days ago with my niece. She was so excited about coming, and the girl who helped us was unbelievably disrespectful. Which is not the type of service I am used at this business. The girl, Synaia, gave me and my niece nothing but an attitude and eye rolls. Huge variety of flavors and "creations," like the Bric House which includes 3 scoops of your choice of ice cream, chocolate chips, hot fudge, crushed Oreos, and whipped cream 2. After reading all the hoopla here on Yelp about Brics...and let's face it, who am I kidding, I could live on ice cream...I decided to come by here this evening with my daughter. We self-righteously walked along the Monon passing by Brics - since we knew we planned on stopping there on our way back - figuring we'd burn off a few pre-Brics calories. What an adorable place! The decor is cute and inviting...although most people opted for the outdoor seating area. My daughter and her husband have lived in the area for over 2 years, but she had never been to Brics. We were both very excited to give them a try :-) After reading all the reviews about the Yellow Cake Batter, I had to try it...so the nice young man behind the counter gave me a spoonful to try. Mmmmm...good, but I wanted to try their Pistachio and got a single scoop in a cup to go. My daughter had a scoop of Cookies n Cream in a cup to go. We then proceeded on down the trail back to my house. I think this will be my once-a-week indulgence through summer. read more

Love it! My son and I tried Brics tonight and it was fabulous. The staff was super friendly. They offered samples and I jokingly said "one of each" and she said "You can do that. You can try one of each." I didn't, I actually only sampled 3. The Yellow Cake Batter, Lemon Custard and French Silk. All 3 were great. I chose the French Silk and my son chose the Yellow Cake Batter. We were not at all disappointed. I loved that since we decided to stay there to eat our treats, we were served our ice cream in actual glass dishes, with real spoons. They even give you samples on real spoons. Perhaps the perfect summer treat! Brics staged its recent debut in one of the wooden depots along the Monon Trail that appears to have been vacant for some time. It's hard to imagine why no one put an ice creameria here before--it's the perfect location and BR really needs an alternative to those freaky fro-yo places! Indeed, Sunday night at 9 p.m. saw a sizable crowd, but it was deftly handled thanks to a full staff of ice cream scoopers and one of those delicatessen take-a-number machines. The flavors they carry are pretty standard, but a few of them have neighborhood-inspired names (like Village Fudge, Monon Tracks and Broad Ripple Blackberry), which is a nice touch. I'm not a huge fan of the name "Brics," which stands for "Broad Ripple Ice Cream Station," but the aesthetic is a whimsical modern and it seems to kind of work. The decor and logo--airy and cute. The shop isn't just your average brick and mortar store front and the ice cream isn't just your average ice cream either. I think I've had an actual dream about their pistachio ice cream in a waffle cone with sprinkles.... now, I'm usually not one to go to a place and choose the same thing on the menu every time. Believe me, I've tried many of their other flavors (chocolate choo choo, yellow cake, peanut butter, the list goes on), but that combo I just mentioned is top tier. This place has wonderful ice cream, I believe it's made in Northern Indiana or perhaps Michigan and is shipped in daily. Tons of great flavors. My 11 year-old's favorite is Birthday Cake. I usually go for Pistachio. I've heard people say that it's too expensive. I think the price for a couple of scoops is around $6 - $7. However, the scoops are HUGE. Seriously, I bet that two scoops are near a half gallon of ice cream! In fact, I usually get my son "half a scoop", and only one scoop for me, and believe me, that's plenty! I run by brics a lot since it's right on the Monon, and yesterday I stopped in for a sweet treat. It was a hot day, and there were a lot of people sitting in their outdoor seating area enjoying their ice cream. I walked inside, and really loved their modern and minimalistic decor. However, no one goes to an ice cream parlor for ambiance. So, on to the ice cream. I chose a scoop of chocolate peanut butter ice cream in a pretzel cone. I'd never tried a pretzel cone before, and I was glad I did this once, but I wouldn't order it again. I enjoyed the saltiness mixed with the sweetness of the chocolate, but it was too much and the cone itself was a little thick. Stick with a waffle or cake cone. The ice cream was delicious, and one scoop (really more like two!) was plenty for me and my boyfriend to share. They had a lot of flavors that I wanted to try, so I know I'll be back soon. read more

BRICS Ice cream, what wonderful descriptive words can you not use for this ice cream. Rich, smooth, delicious, dreamy, perfect. I used to an active runner on the Monon until I moved downtown. Every time I ran by BRICs I wanted to stop. Everyone out on the porch, enjoying their delicious treat, it was very hard to resist. Also, seeing the water they readily supply you was tantalizing as well on a hot summer day. Now, one of my favorite activities is to bike up the Monon from downtown and go to BRICs. There really is no ice cream in the City that compares to this and I would probably bike further if I needed to in order to get their ice cream. This place is always busy so be patient. It is worth the wait. Also, if it is your first time, make sure to grab a number. I've seen too many newbies stand for such a long time without a number. Don't be afraid to ask for a sample either, even though the ones waiting in line behind you probably won't like it : ). Also. know that one scope is one HUGE scope. You can split the scope with different kinds of ice cream but don't ask for 2 scoops; 1 scope of chocolate and one of vanilla. I did this my first time thinking this was the way I would get two kinds of ice cream....big mistake. Maybe this is how most ice cream places are but just be aware.
