Where do I begin?! I found Alex through Yelp and reached out to her based upon her reviews and location. I got an immediate response. We set up an appointment within a couple of days. Let me say that we hit it off INSTANTLY! I loved her energy, her style and her approach. She is knowledgable and goes ABOVE and BEYOND details. She opened the bag carrying my dress and gasped. Thinking something had happened to it, off my look, she said, "This is the most magnificent dress." I thought so too. :D This magnificent dress was a labor of love. Somehow we had to figure out how to bustle it as the design of the dress did not call for it. I knew I was going to dance all night so it was important for us to find a solution. And with her keen eye and creativity, she worked with the dress until it worked. Alex is amazing!! I purchased a vintage 1959s prom dress and a jumpsuit which both needed altering. I did some research online, but didn't find anyone I felt I could trust with these garments. Finally, just over a week before I needed them I was referred to Alex by one of the lovely ladies at Pin Up Girl Boutique. The referral alone assured me I was in good hands, but meeting her really sealed the deal. Not only is she probably one of the coolest women on the planet, she knows what she's doing. My prom dress had layers of tulle and was WAY too long for me as was my jumpsuit. She pinned me up, made sure I was happy with the length, offered her opinion with no pressure but the confidence of someone who has experience, and assured me she would meet the ridiculous deadline I had imposed on her. After reading Alex's glowing reviews I decided to entrust her with my Linen wedding suit. Unlike many tailors I've worked with in the past, Alex took quite a bit of time to look at how my suit fit and discuss the changes we should make. Then, over the course of a few days, she took a wonderful suit and made it simply amazing! She pulled the vest in, gave the jacket a bit of a taper and slimmed the jacket sleeves to give it that extra bespoke touch. I was very impressed by Alex's workmanship and her professionalism. The suit pants she shortened for me fit great now. I contacted Alex via Yelp's messaging feature. She replied later in the day and we setup an appointment via text messages. I needed some suit pants shortened. I arrived and she quickly took measurements and also gave me advice about my dress shoes which also my wife agreed with. Although the shoes looked nice, they were not a good quality build. I am fully cognizant of the ramifications of a negative review and how it can impact business, which is why I would very rarely do such a thing, but I feel I need to tell my story. I have a wedding coming up that we have had to plan quickly because a close family member is barely hanging on with terminal cancer. The following day she texted me with a fitting date. as well as "btw, I have a $60 minimum for all clients." All good ... not my business. I responded "Hi Alex! Sorry, busy day. 7/6 would be fine, but I have to say $60 seems high for what I'm looking for, especially considering the shirt itself was only $68. I don't know. Given our limited finances with the wedding coming up, I may have to look for other options. I mean, I'm no expert in this stuff ... Is that standard?" To which she responded, "not a problem, I understand. That's a business procedure that works for me. Based on ur honesty, I'll cancel your appt. TU, Alex All good, right? I wasn't offended in the least, except for the fact that I never requested a cancellation, but could detect a bit of a "butthurt" tone in her response. It truly must be said; this woman is magic! I had a very eclectic wedding and from the start, we needed tailoring on multiple pieces; one bridesmaid dress (fell in love with it in a vintage store but it was a wee bit tight on my girl!) my groom's trousers and frock coat (too big and a bit lopsided in the shoulders!) and my wedding dress, a medieval-style custom velvet and tapestry gown which I decided in the weeks before the wedding needed new sleeves. All of these alterations were extensive and required creative and critical thought. Alex reimagined my bridesmaid's gown and rather than just expand it with a gusset or something of the like, she created a beautiful corset-style back, which brought this modern dress right into line with our other more historical clothing. Watching her measure my groom in his coat and the care and thought that went into every single change she was going to do, was both impressive and soothing; I knew he would look perfect, and he did! She considers not just the garment, but the human that will live in it and the unique fit that they require. She is lovely, flexible, and an absolute pleasure to work with. After living in Los Angeles for 3 years, I stumbled across the Traveling Tailor. Alex has been wonderful to work with. I am between sizes 36 and 38. Most tailors I've gone to in the past basically shorten the sleeves of my jacket and pants hem. Alex takes into consideration the fit of the whole jacket and not just the sleeves. After an ongoing search for a wedding dress, I became discouraged and just purchased the first thing I liked from an overseas website. I ordered up with the plan to have it altered to fit my body shape, when I got the dress it was way off. Not just the extra inches I added for altering, it needed some serious surgery.
