First off - the bartenders are slow. When the bar is half empty and yet I'm still waiting for 10 minutes to order is ridiculous. The bartender also don't engage the patrons other than to take your order. Food delivery is painfully slow. I've waited for over 40 minutes for my meal - more than once. Cashing out is a painfully slow process. read more

What a pleasant surprise! Great burgers and sandwiches. Nice selection on tap, wines, and whiskeys. Good place to watch a game if you get there in the afternoon. Nice pool tables. Hidden gem in Bakersfield, it's a bar inside the padre hotel and the food was yum! It was a Sunday afternoon and I wanted to try something different so I yelped this place and here we are. The waitress was very attentive and she always made sure everything was made to perfection. I ordered a bacon burger with ghost pepper cheese. My wife ordered a salmon burger and my mom ordered the chicken panini. Needless to say we were all satisfied. Oh and don't let me forget the hot wings, these are a must have when coming here. We net here tonight for a book club meeting. Matt the waiter met me quickly helped to accommodate our party of almost 20. The food was very good and I enjoyed my burger and the artichoke dip was great. We had a great time, good service and I am very pleased with my experience. It was a bit warm, due to an AC issue but we got to eat had plenty of time playing pool and when we asked for something we recieved it. They even were able to seperate each of our tabs no problem. Definitely planning on returning. read more

I was referred to the Padre Hotel by a friend, and in particular, to the Belvedere Room. But when I was covered with sweat from a desert worksite, and managing a tight travel schedule, Brimstone seemed a better pick for a late lunch. I was really impressed. I had the Grilled Swordfish Club with cole slaw, which was really flavorful and unique. Service was both friendly and laid back, and the classic/modern decor was right on point. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect given the reputation of the area, but this restaurant and the Padre are on another level. I'll definitely be recommending both to my co-workers who travel to Bakersfield in the future. read more

I come here often as work requires me to be in Bakersfield. Love this hotel and can't say enough about Brimstone. Great food (I especially like the Kobe beef sliders), great service and atmosphere. I'm usually here on weekdays when it's pretty laid back. They have a great happy hour with lots of choices. I believe it's 3-6. They also have enough tv's to watch multiple games. I love the Padre Hotel - the Brimstone is its only misfire, IMO. The Brimstone is loud. The high ceiling and architecture in this Americana Sports-Bar make for a "food court at the mall" level of sound. I'm not typically someone who can enjoy a restaurant where I have to yell across a table to talk to my friends - unless the food is so good I wouldn't be talking anyway. Sadly, the Brimstone isn't that good. It's nice, but not worth just coming for the food only. Since I can't justify sitting there staring at TVs while eating my overpriced burger, I don't typically go here unless it's a weeknight and I can see the crowd is small from the windows outside. If you're looking for a sports bar to watch the game, it's a good choice. read more

My wife and I came in for dinner before attending a concert at the Fox Theatre down the street. We have been to this bar a handful of times before and always enjoyed ourselves. Tonight we found a table and sat down to have dinner. Our server Bree came over right away and was very friendly and cordial. When we ordered our drinks that's when things went south. We waited waited and waited some more. I ordered the Kern Hot Chicken sandwich and my wife ordered a wedge salad. The food was fabulous! Bree was fabulous! However through no fault of hers the service was very slow. My wife and I come downtown often and undoubtedly will come here for drinks again. Dinner? I will probably give it another shot again, but management should keep in mind we have a choice of amazing restaurants in Bakersfield. My wife believes you need more bartenders and wait staff. I'm not sure if that is the problem, I just know there is one. read more

I'll start with the positive. The philly cheesesteak was fine. It was good and big, but not amazing. The salted caramel shooter was amazing. That point was a true highlight for the meal. My rant is with the drink. I was driving, so I ordered a virgin bloody Mary. It was ok. Nothing special, but ok. I drank about half. I got the bill and it was $8!!! I asked why it was so much and they said because of the house made mix. I asked the price of a regular bloody mary, $8. The same price. I had no alcohol and paid as much as if I did. I woke up in my large comfy bed, and wondered what time check out was. It couldn't be this early, could it? I stretched and got up to get ready for the day. I figured I'd go down to get breakfast before lugging my bag out to the car. So, I put my stuff on the bed and head out the door towards the elevator. Six floors down I exited and wandered over towards the restaurant. I looked around at the place, and it seemed actually pretty crowded for a Sunday morning. I sat down at a small table next to a pillar, and waited for somebody to see me. That actually took a bit of time. It seemed like they were quite short staffed. Eventually a girl came over and apologized. She handed me a menu and asked if I'd like coffee. Thank you and yes. She then went off to get coffee. Again, the short staff thing was expressed more here, as it took quite a while for her to come back to me. The menu had a short list of items. But, eventually she did, and I ordered the Breakfast burrito. It wasn't super expensive. Eight or Nine dollars. It was a while before my burrito was delivered to me. More than a few times I looked at the clock and wondered if I'd be here long enough to miss check out time. Several times I pondered running upstairs for my bags. Eventually my breakfast arrived. It was a large and healthy sized breakfast burrito. Several parsley sprigs had been tossed atop it, and it had been doused in red sauce and sprinkled with parmegean cheese, a tin of salsa placed next to it. I carved into the large burrito with a knife and sliced off the end of the thing. I then had to cut that bit into more pieces so it'd fit in my mouth. (They were probably still too big!) The burrito was good. Very good sized and good stuff inside. Beans, eggs...meat....good burrito. Paying the bill also suffered from short staffed issue. I ate my breakfast, took care of the bill, and went back upstairs juuuust before it was time to check out. So overall, while the food was great the service was quite slow, albeit nice. I'll probably be back if I'm in the area. Hopefully they'll hire more people or fix the schedule. read more

Easily one of the best places for lunch in the downtown area. The casual dining and great selections on the menu go very well for a nice sit down lunch on a time budget. The weekly specials differ nicely and I just how they bring back the cheese on their pretzel bites. Service is an A and value is an -A. Macpherson was behind the bar and was very personable and attentive. He was a master craftsman with the drinks and handled the busy night with grace and a smile. The worst ceasar salad I have ever had in my life. I ordered a ceasar sale with steak and they didn't even give me a full salad - it was more like a crap piece of steak with a side salad -- weird. I ask for medium rare steak - it came out bloody and tasted raw - I sent it back to be cooked longer and when it came back it was yet again -- bloody. Wonderful Dinner for a last minute staycation date night. Service was exceptional, with a very attentive and personable Waiter. My husband had the Tomahawk steak, and it was very tender and delicious. My duck had great flavor, and perfect doneness. So this is our favorite spot to hit on our drive from Nor. Cal to Las Vegas. We stay at the Padre Hotel and this very happening friendly bar and a great spot to have a drink and a very tasty meal. (A bit on the loud side but it's happening!). You eat, drink, and then stumble upstairs with an extremely pleased stomach. This trip I tried the Ahi Poke Nachos without the chips but on a small bed of lettuce... trying to eat less carbs (Keto) and this was amazing!!!! The flavor of the marinated ahi and the Siracha aoli..awesome!!!! (ask for less mango because those are high in carbs but keep them because everyone needs a treat.) The staff is kind and not a long wait for our meal. The drinks are mixed nicely and not frugally. From the outside of the building you'd never know what a great spot this is if you weren't aware or from Bakersfield. Yeah, we like it. read more

Brimstone bar and grill features a Bison Burger that is absolutely to die for, so succulent, scrumptious and flavorful. The meat patty is very large the bun is moist and flavorful and the fries are excellent, only wish there were a little more. Price is reasonable and we were there for lunch so it was not busy or loud from the bar. Clients seem to also enjoy the Bison Burgers and other food items. read more

I have been here twice for brunch and had a very similar experience each time. They have a special on Sundays, $11 get you a burger, fries and a beer or bloody mary. It's a great buy. They also offer bottomless mimosas, but I cannot remember the price. The food that we have had has always been tasty, but nothing in particular stood out. My complaints are all regarding the waiter (so how we got stuck with the same worthless guy each time). The first two times we visited, he promptly took out drink order, then promptly let the drinks sit at the bar for twenty minutes (Not because he was busy with other guest or wiping down tables or anything professional. No he decided to sit at the bar and watch TV or chat with the bartender while she was working her tail off). after a half hour or so, he wander over and ask if we needed more time to review the menus (that he never gave us). The entire visit continued in a similar fashion. If I come back, I'll sit at the bar to avoid getting stuck with the apathetic waiter. Frankly, i think that there are better places to catch the Sunday game. read more

Went there for the first time for lunch today. My boyfriend got the burger and I got the wedge salad. I've had so many restaurants drench the salad in dressing but this was not the case. The flavors from the wedge all complimented each other well. But the best part was the burger. Best burger we had both tasted (he shared) in a very long time. We will be returning a lot! Went to the Brimstone for their new brunch that they have on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 9:30. We had a really large group (15 girls) and they dont take reservations. We had no issues getting a table for all of us though, and our waitress was very friendly. At the end of the meal she even split our checks, which I know is very annoying for servers to do! The menu is large and very reasonably priced. I was expecting small portions when I saw the prices, but that was not the case. They have bottomless mimosas for $10 which is a great deal when normally they are $5 a piece! I had the mac n cheese duck confit and it was mind blowing. The duck was very delicious and the fried egg on top really made the dish better. The serving was very large and I was able to take some home with me. I would def get that again. Some others got the hash which was good and the padre breakfast which they liked. Overall everyone enjoyed their meal and I think we will all be back again soon! read more

The place is in the bottom level of a nice hotel. Beautiful interior! Our service was great- the waitress brought my mom a better chair because my mom was uncomfortable. She also brought samples to make sure my mom was happy with her wine. The food was delicious and filling and the drinks were good and reasonably priced. (My margarita was 7 bucks) I had the steak and blue sandwich which was awesome and came with a salad Some of the chairs were a little hard, but the place was clean and the service attentive. Definitely glad we found this place on our road trip for a nice sit down lunch. read more

This bar/restaurant at The Padre Hotel is really quite good. They have an excellent and growing selection of both single malts and bourbons, and the menu has an excellent variety of food. I just finished a two week stay at the hotel, and everything I've had at the Brimstone has been excellent. Highlights are the scotch (did I already mention that), very good martinis, the buffalo wings which were big/crispy/juicy/and very tasty, and the truffle fries. Also mention the Cuban sandwich and club sandwich were very good as was the burger. All around can't go wrong. Good crowd as well. read more

Well, before I get going, I must say that when we went to dinner here last night it was on "First Friday". I am not from the area, but it seems that this us the equivalent to a pub crawl. The place was SLAMMED! That all being said, the food was mediocre. I had their "basic burger" it was $12 and had no flavor. We also ordered the nachos (which is an appetizer) to share for the table. The nachos and my burger came out at the exact same time. Nit the end of the world, but for a place that charges $12 for a burger, one would hope they would understand the difference between and appetizer and an entree. The have a very minimal beer list, again for an Irish/Euro pub style setting, that in my book is sad. Oh well, I'm not from the area, so I probably wont have the chance to go back on a regular night when the food is probably much tastier and not "drinking food". read more

Favorite place for my sister, roommate, and I! We go there maybe once a month, or a couple more, depending on holidays. Drinks aren't expensive, and I'm a lightweight, so I pretty much am good with one to two giant glasses of beer. Our server was very attentive and fast, and gave great recommendations. The ambience is so chill, but at the same time lively, and the place itself is beautiful. Even if nobody dresses fancy with lack of class, I would wear a dress and heels to this place. I've been to this part of the Padre a few times now, and while the food has always been good, the poor service has kept me from coming back. They offer a great special on the weekends consisting of the Padre burger, fries, and a bloody mary or pint of draft beer for $11. As good of a deal as that is for the quality of the burger, I cannot get over the awful service. A couple of the times we've been here, the service was slow, but we eventually were tended to, got our drinks, side orders, etc. Service wasn't impressive, but wasn't bad enough to outweigh the food/value However, the last time I went, the service was so bad we essentially had a self-serve meal. My husband, his brother and I all came in on a weekend. The restaurant was not full, and plenty of staff appeared to be on hand. We were seated relatively quickly. However, after 10 minutes, we had to flag down a waiter for menus and waters, interrupting the conversation our server "Steven" was having with fellow staff. We eventually got our waters and placed an order for our drinks and food. Steven placed our drink order at the bar, and the bartender had them ready within a couple minutes. Steven continued to walk around chatting with staff and disappearing for long periods of time. After nearly 15 minutes, my husband went to the bar to get our drinks, since our waiter was apparently not going to do so. The bartender was smart enough to make fresh drinks, as they'd been sitting so long the ice had melted completely. When our food eventually came, my burger was missing the avocado I'd requested. I would have asked for it on the side, but Steven never once visited our table after dropping off our food. To be clear, he was still working - but his "work" consisted of talking with staff, not customers. Again, my husband went to the bar for table set-ups, as Steven said he'd go get them when he dropped off our food, but never did. At the end of the meal, we waited for our bill. Getting frustrated, my husband yet again went to the bar and requested our bill. We left a tip for the bartender, and made sure none of us tipped our waiter. We're usually generous tippers, and we'll give *something* for some sort of service; however, this time I had no problem walking away not leaving a penny on the table. The food here is good, but I wouldn't expect great service, and I'd strongly advise the Padre to retrain staff regarding appropriate behavior and work expectations. We will not recommend this restaurant to friends. read more
