Grabbed dinner at Bootlegger's the other day to give it a try, I wasn't familiar with the location just happened across it. I went inside and ordered food to go, the staff was very friendly. Bartender greeted me right away and helped me find a good beer to have while I waited for the food, he brought me some samples and when I found the one for me got me a full glass quickly. Other staff were friendly and checked on me once or twice during the wait. The fish itself was fine but the fish to ratio batter is off, there was so much batter to some pretty thin fish, need to work that out. The wedges were good, crispy and well seasoned I enjoyed those. I don't like coleslaw so my wife at it and said it was delicious, one of the best coleslaw's she's ever had so that was a big hit. I'll drop by and try it again another time but for $20 the fish and chips is a bit lacking. read more

The ribeye was one of the worst steaks I can remember having. It tasted like a boiled dish rag. The shrimp was surprisingly good, but the steak was absolutely awful. I also ordered the chicken sandwich and specifically asked for no mayonnaise. Of course, it came with mayonnaise anyway. If the restaurant had been busy, I could understand the mistake and simply send it back. But we were literally the only party there--which now makes sense. To top it off, they gave me a $16 discount on a $32 steak that was completely inedible. Thanks, I guess. If you're looking for a place to eat, I'd definitely stay away from Bootleggers. BIG shoutout to Jesse and his bartender bestie for saving the night! We came in excited to try the new spot and sip on something cute, but WHEW!! The drinks at first were either giving toothache sweet or knock-you-out strong. BUT...I wasn't ready to give up just yet. So, I had no choice but to express my concern. Jesse quickly stepped in, grabbed his girl, and WOW! ... it was a whole glow-up! The Mexican Candyshooter? Yes please! The remodel is super cute, the ambiance is vibey, and you can feel the potential. It's definitely got the energy... it just needs a little more time to fully find its groove. We arrived to get a bite to eat. We had been wanting to go in since it opened. We were seated and given menus and asked for our beverage choice. Well we chose items off happy hour to taste. Potatoe skins, spinach artichoke cheese dip, smash burger sliders, and pulled pork sliders. When they brought our food, they brought fried artichokes, and not the artichoke spinach cheese dip, so that was an error. Which they ended up having to take back and bring us the correct item. The place is clean. The service was friendly. Prices are fair, but in all honesty. As a patron seeing, there is only a bar area to sit in. Is kind of disheartening, knowing the space is so large. Kind of strange to have a event space with the packages that they offer that are so pricey for the type of establishment, they are. As far as a bar area with a happy hour menu. It's a fair deal if you want a bar vibe. I understand what they were trying to do. But as far as the food, everything was good, we did enjoy it. Happy to see Boot Leggers open on the East Side! The space is large quite large, with just the bar section open for the time being (there are still plenty of tables and booths available for large parties & families). There are lots of screens for you sports lovers and the music plays at a good volume, so you don't have to raise your voice while having a conversation. If you go on a Wednesday, it's Happy Hour ALL DAY so that's cool too ~ It only took a few minutes for our group to be seated, and the booth we got was pretty spacious for 4 adults and 3 children. Our server noticed we hadn't received menus right away so he he made sure we got those + some silverware ASAP and then took our drink orders. There wasn't much of a wait for our drinks, and while the food took a bit of time to come out, it was to be expected with the amount of customers there. We ordered the following: TRI-TIP BLTA + POTATO WEDGES TRI-TIP CHEESY MELT + TOTS CHIMMICHURRI STEAK BITES + SIDE OF VEGGIES KIDS MINI CHEESEBURGERS + MAC N CHEESE MOLTEN LAVA CAKE Some of our family also had a burger, micheladas and some beer on tap. I just don't remember what the exact items were called! Anyway, everyone in our party enjoyed their meal and the overall experience at the restaurant. The meat was moist and the variety of ingredients in each dish was nice. I would have liked a little more chimmichurri on my steak bites, but other than that it was solid. The kids really loved their molten lava cake! Alcohol was a steal taking the size of the mugs into account. We loved it here and are down to come back more often! Bootleggers on Auburn is a solid win for east Bakersfield! Clean, modern pub feel with great craft beers on tap and juicy burgers. The grilled chicken with hummus was fantastic. My coworkers and I did not have a whole lot of time so we were happy to see it was nearly empty at noon. High ceilings and woodsy, the interior is rustic and charming. There were people seated at the bar. We opted for a booth. Service was swift. There was a lunch menu available. I was torn between fried calamari and crab cakes and the server went back to the kitchen and double-checked whether the calamari was pieces or with tentacles like I preferred. From his discovery, I went with the crab cakes that were made in-house and they were incredibly good. My friend's apple pecan grilled chicken salad was good too. After what feels like 6 months of waiting for this place the only thing served was a long list of disappointments. The place is only partially opened and you'll be seated in the bar area for the time being which is fine but after everything else that happened being in a loud room with drunkards added to the mess. Here's the list: Party of 5 sat in a table for 4, drink order took forever and we didn't even have a drink menu, items integral to the menu not available, had to ask for cutlery, cutlery missing pieces (we laughed), had to ask for condiments, slow service overall, half the food was served after the rest of the party finished, order was wrong after taking about 25 minutes after the other parties plates came out, manager made light of it after coming out to address us on his own accord, no discount offered, waiter got in trouble when he was the only one helping us. Food was fine (burgers, wings) but the Alfredo pasta was pretty bland. The service was awful. Overall left with the impression that the head stinks from the head of the fish. Why open if you're not ready? Why put your frontline staff through this? Not going back. They made the old La Mina stale and ruined the beauty that it once was. The look of tacky Rosedale Bakersfield on the east side. It might be for you, but not for me. I wanted to love it because we need a place like this on the east side. We tried the northeast Bootleggers on Monday, February 23, 2026. It is obvious that they are still working on the interior. The bar area is the only section open so far, and it was LOUD! I really want to like this place because it's so close to my house, and I love supporting local. but they let me down every time. I went when they first opened up, waited 20 minutes for a beer and almost an hour for my food. When I got my beer, it was the wrong beer and I had to wait another 15 for the correct beer. I get it, it was when they first opened up so i said heck with it and gave them another chance. I recently tried them again, and same thing. This time there were maybe 10 people inside, and I still had to wait 10-15 minutes for a beer. It's not rocket science to pour a beer, Rusty's pizza pours your pitcher in less than 60 seconds. Food is decent but prepare to wait for it. This restaurant is nothing but a waiting game, even though it's decently staffed. Add another bartender, and a bar back for an efficient bar and maybe I will come back. read more

I really want to like this place, especially since it's close to my house, but my experience with customer service--specifically with the manager, Tony--made it frustrating. They forgot a side order that comes with the meal. When I called, Tony offered to deliver it, which I initially appreciated. Over the phone, I clearly told him to meet me on the street since there are multiple units and entrances. Despite that, he called saying he was at a different location--the back of the complex. I again told him I would meet him on the street as originally discussed. I waited several minutes with no sign of him. I even texted to see if he needed help and got no response. When I finally called again, he was still all the way in the back parking lot, which made no sense because I had already told him twice to meet me on the street. He said he would walk to meet me, but by that point I had already walked across a large property trying to find him. His explanation was that GPS led him there, which didn't help at all considering I gave clear directions. Honestly, it would have been faster and less frustrating to just go back and pick up the missing item myself. The situation could have been handled much better. read more

Was excited to finally get to go since it took a long time to open. Once we got inside it was halfway done with the bar section only open. Noisy environment but not too bad. I ordered a cheeseburger with tater tots and received my meal without the tater tots. then when my burger came it was raw when i bit into it i just tasted straight mush and the bread was soggy because the lettuce was really wet still. I sent it back and got my burger back and it was still soggy and didn't have cheese and just came with lettuce and onions even tho i had added a few more things to the BYO burger. read more
