This is my second time trying Andy's frozen custard and this time I got the strawberry shortcake. The large came out to $8 and comes with buttery, crumbly shortcake, strawberries, and their classic vanilla frozen custard. I really liked the combination of the crumbly texture of the shortcake, combined with the smooth, velvety custard and sweet strawberries. I went through the drive-through and I saw that they can take orders outside, but I'm not sure if it's possible to go inside. Also, the shop is very family friendly and colorful. I was a little confused while ordering because it was the first time I had ever been there, but the clerk was so helpful!! I got a small cup with 2 scoops of their custard ice cream, a chocolate and vanilla scoop. First, the texture was amazing! It was very creamy but not too soft; I like that it didn't have a grainy texture. The ice cream also held its shape for quite some time and didn't melt immediately even when in the mouth. The chocolate flavor was extremely rich, way more rich than what I'm used too; it tasted very close to a dark chocolate ice cream. This place was great! I was recommended this place at work. Once I stopped by I was wowed by how many options the menu had.. This made it hard to Decide because everything sounded so good! They had lots of good flavor combinations and simple desserts as well. Once I decided the shake I got was absolutely delicious! It tasted almost like a good old fashioned ice cream. Andy's is reliably delicious. The chocolate soft serve is my favorite. It's just smooth, sweet, and rich chocolate. Pretty perfect. My pups always loved the pup cups which is essentially a sample of vanilla soft serve. Also delicious! Also, not a bad idea to take advantage of the quart combo which allows you to take home a couple quarts and toppings! Just a heads up for this specific location. According to them there are certain combinations they cannot make. We've had a blackberry shortcake concrete (also blueberry shortcake when in season.) This location said they are not allowed to make that. They said they can only do strawberry shortcake sundaes. That makes absolutely no sense when they have the products to make it. The girl up front was very sweet. The lady (I assume the manager) just stared up at me from the back and told the girl "Yeah...we can't do that!" So confusing and seems ridiculous to me. Just be warned if you want something different that you have maybe gotten at other Andy's, they will not do that here. This is one of my favorite ice cream spots. I originally tried this chain in Dallas and don't have it back home in Houston, so I was excited to try it again! We got the banana split and the snow monster concrete and both were so smooth and creamy and delicious. The snow monster concrete was strawberries and chocolate chips blended throughout the ice cream cup (which was a solid quantity for the price considering the cup was tall). The banana split was a classic split, and the marshmallow crème is what MADE that dessert. The strawberry sauce, cherries, and strawberries combined with the bananas was 10/10. Would definitely get both again, but next time I want to try the items that are more chocolate fudge heavy. The service was pretty fast and efficient because there was a pretty long line when we went, and we got both our items within 3 minutes. I will say there is no storefront or seating "inside" because they take your order at the window and you just pick up your order and leave. "Great frozen custard with classic vibes!" I'm from Houston, and we usually go to Connie's Frozen Custard, so trying Andy's in San Antonio felt familiar and honestly, it was amazing! The custard was super smooth and flavorful, very similar to what we're used to, but with a bigger setup, more toppings, and maybe a wider variety of flavors. Even though the lines were long (which usually means it's good!), they moved pretty fast and everything was very organized. The service was efficient, and the vibe was chill and welcoming. I didn't take any photos this time not sure why, maybe I was just too focused on the custard! But I'll definitely be back. I'm especially excited because I think we're getting an Andy's on Barker Cypress in Cypress, which means this might become a regular stop for me. Unless you get a size way too big to finish your custard haha aka it happened to my husband anyways I enjoyed my small chocolate waffle jack. It was the perfect size to cool down from the San Antonio heat. My son had a strawberry mixed concoction and my husband got their peanut butter and enjoyed that. The one con I will say is that there is only outdoor seating, no indoor seating available so if you're getting custard you will be eating this out in the heat which means you will need to inhale your treat before it melts.... Stopped by to try it out. Ordered a vanilla cone. It was dripping all over the sides when it was handed to me cost me about $3.75 for what was a dime size cone. The taste? Odorless, colorless and tasteless. The same description a scientist would use to describe water. Ate off the top and then I threw the bottom of the cone in the parking lot. Not worth the effort to take off the paper shroud surrounding the cone. There is a whole gap of inconsistency with quality from the midday to late night. The staff treats you as if you are a burden to them. $8 for a half ass made custard with poor attitude is not worth it. I've come a few times and made it an effort to stop due to the service and price but decided to treat myself for the pumpkin concrete and was extremely disappointed again with the custard not being mixed and the poor service by being greeted with "what do you want" and no further communication for payment but staring with a dead stare while holding the device towards me and didn't say if i was good to go and walked off. This was my first time to see or visit an Andy's! After this experience, it will not be the last. I had to drop some stuff off with my daughter while she was at work. The security at her place of business will not allow anyone to get into the secure parking garage. So she had to come out to meet me, and while putting the stuff in her car, she asked if I would like some ice cream? She said there was a new Andy's nearby and that she had been wanting to try out. She didn't have to twist my arm, I was an easy yes:-). This Andy's is in the Rim Shopping Center and was easy to get to. There was a lot of commotion going on around it, and we found that was driven by the #3 RCR race car piloted by Austin Dillion. We took a quick picture and then went to order. They had a BOGO going on, so we took that offer. Our treats were created quickly and handed to us. We both thought they were excellent, and mine was gone so fast. After trying custard in Saint Louis I was on the hunt for custard in San Antonio. Found out that an Andy's recently opened, and they actually hail from Osage Beach, Missouri. The space gives 1950s drive-in vibes with a walk up window and friendly staff. Andy's offers lots of frozen treats from concretes to sundaes to malts. I tried the lime pie concrete of the month and it did not disappoint. It contains a whole slice of pie blended into the custard. Hubby got a Rico Suave Jackhammer he really liked the combo; he especially liked that the fudge was actually hot, unlike most places where it's cold, he said it was perfect for the winter weather crave. We came here for the first time today as a treat for my 7 year old. It's a cute little shop with outdoor benches only. They have cornhole and some other games for customers in the yard as well. We ordered at the window and it only took about 5 minutes before our order was ready and they were BUSY. My son had the Cookie Butter Crunch Concrete and he loved it. I tried a spoonful and the flavor was fantastic but I have to admit, it was way less "concrete" than other frozen custards I've had. My husband had the Cookie Crumble and he said it had good flavor but it melted very quickly. I had a frozen lemon Italian ice and it was fantastic-but it wasn't frozen custard. The one thing we have missing in Houston is a variety of good ice cream shops. This is located at The Rim and it is definitely an upscale version of DQ. Andy's Frozen Custard has some things to recommend it and some things that don't. I would recommend when it comes to frozen custard flavor variety. Andy's absolutely has a selection of different flavors and mixes. More so than some other frozen custard places. I had the Bootdaddy because it had caramel, which is a love of mine. The second recommend would be the location. Easy reach off the highway and good access. It was also easy to find. All great things when looking for accessibility. Something that didn't impress me was the custard itself. The flavor selection was good and tasty, but I thought the custard was a bit less flavorful and more watery. Since I had the Bootdaddy, it was sugary with a watery taste. Not so great. Andy's was also a bit pricey. Most items were over $5, with the exemption of their plain vanilla and chocolate flavors. These were $4 and change. Not too bad. Overall for two custards, we paid about $12. Another issue, but I realize that this is not necessarily Andy's issue, was the line. It was very long and it took us a while to get our order in. Staff was trying to alleviate this, so they were actively trying to decrease the wait time. It's just something to note when visiting the location. All in all, I think I might give this place a second try. But I wasn't overly impressed with this first visit, so no high expectations for the second one. read more

I am so excited that Andy's Frozen Custard has opened in San Antonio. I grew up in Springfield, Missouri where Andy's opened in the late 80s. Their original store opened in Osage Beach, Missouri with their second (and many more) opening in Springfield. I grew up on this stuff. It is a place I usually visit when I'm home on a visit, but now I can have it any time! My favorite is the Ozark Turtle. It's a hot fudge sundae with caramel and roasted pecans. Those pecans are the bomb. There's something about them being roasted that makes the sundae extra special. My husband loves their "original 'straw-ana' sundae" which...as the name suggests...a sundae with strawberries and bananas. Andy's serves sundaes, concretes, shakes, splits, and other ice cream delights. There's not an "inside" to go into and sit down, but there are plenty of outdoor benches. You order at the window and enjoy your ice cream immediately outside or take it to go. This gem is located at the Rim just past the Bass Pro parking lot. They're open late so there is no reason that you should miss out on this treat! Be prepared for a bit of a wait as they're busy at certain times...but don't...miss...out! read more
