We stood there waiting to be seated. A waitress saw us and didn't do anything. When we were about to leave a gentleman came. I asked if we could be seated outside, and he was all for it. Food was mediocre. App - we got the bruschetta sampler. It was ok. There was one with steak that was so salty I couldn't eat it. Lunch - hubs got the spaghetti bolognese. It was ok. The first thing I noticed was that the restaurant was a little too cold since the ceiling is so high and there weren't many people. We were seated promptly and ordered the chicken milanese and the Gorgonzola cream campanelle. The chicken was yummy, but I was expecting there to be more chicken and not as much pasta. Also, the cheese on the chicken was weird and rubbery. The Gorgonzola pasta was pretty good and very strong, so I wouldn't recommend it if you're not into strong cheeses. Overall, the portion sizes were good, but we really only thought it was a good meal with our $20 off coupon. read more

Brio serves up fresh, upscale, Italian cuisine with a Tuscan twist. We loved the carpaccio, margherita flatbread, and spaghetti pomodoro. The complimentary bread basket is baked to perfection and the wine, beer, and cocktail list is really nice too. Happy Hour is every weekday from 3-7pm with excellent appetizers and drink specials. The terrace is heated, but call before you go to make sure they are serving outside. I love that this restaurant is by the mall. The food is good and the atmosphere is celebratory. It's nice enough for a birthday or other occasion. There are tablecloths and dim lighting. It's not your pizzeria Italian restaurant. I knew my family would be hungry after Black Friday shopping so I booked a reservation here. We all welcomed the Christmas season with our shopping and then finished off the day with a nice festive family dinner here. I ordered the rigatoni with red pepper sauce- it was so good! The rigatoni was perfectly dente and the sauce is so good! We also ordered the truffle bread for the table. The bread came out buttery hot, full of flavor. It came with ricotta cheese to spread. After a very long day of traveling and airport time, a friend suggested we stop and try out this cute new restaurant. We were able to be seated quickly and placed our appetizer & dinner orders as soon as we all made our decisions. The wait staff was prompt in getting our drink refills and the orders over to the table. The only things that could've been better was that we had to get up to grab our own appetizer plates from a table that was close-by and we had to ask for the 2nd to-go box more than once. Brio used to be my go to spot for dinner after spending a day at Freehold Mall. However, after covid, it has been a while since I went there. I decided to eat here again while in the area with family. I remember the days when brio served these triangular shaped flatbread pieces in their complimentary bread basket, and was super disappointed when all we received was a lump of very very hard that was barely edible. I was really hoping appetizers and entrees would be better, but unfortunately that was not the case. Everything we ordered was just way to salty to enjoy. For appetizers, we ordered the bruschetta trio and it was definitely not as good as before. The beef one was probably the saltiest. I did enjoy the ricotta cheese and tomato one a little more. The ricotta cheese cut the saltiness of the tomato and was a good pairing. Although without the ricotta cheese, the tomato was also super salty. The best one was probably the red pepper one. I ordered the Gorgonzola Cream Campanelle. The Gorgonzola cheese overpowered all the other flavors in the dish, so all you tasted was Gorgonzola. On the menu it said the dish included asparagus but when the meal arrived all I got was a few slightly brown dry sticks that resembled twigs. The lobster bisque was extremely salty. Again the taste of salt overpowered all other flavors. The best dish was probably the pasta brio. It was still salty, just not as salty as the other ones. the sauce was light and creamy and paired well with the other things in the dish. Service was pretty good. Our server was polite, stopped by often enough to ask if we needed anything, but not too often that your meal felt disrupted. Unfortunately, food was just way too salty to be enjoyed. This environment leaves me to wonder why we settled at the mall instead of venturing into Freehold for a far more authentic experience. Since I'm never a fan of forty dollar pasta, going for the filet seemed like a better option... and I was right. The flesh was prepared expertly and the service was attentive bordering on fussy. However, the place is bright enough to require sunglasses and I fully expected Peter Lemongello's rendition of "It's a Small World" at any moment. I've been to the one in Sarasota and had the shrimp and eggplant app on happy hour (sooo good - the sauce is to die for!) and a flatbread on happy hour along with some delicious, and reasonably priced, drinks. Today my family came for dinner. We made a reservation ahead of time and they seated us promptly. I love the ambiance of the interior - large rustic chandeliers, dimmed lighting (not as dark as Cheesecake Factory so you can still see!), quiet even with a lot of tables seated. Welcoming and peaceful to dine in. As I mentioned the shrimp and eggplant app is a MUST TRY, the spinach dip was ok. My salmon Fresca (cooked rare) was both delicious and felt more on the healthier side! To top it off the tiramisu was also delectable. Our waiter was prompt and did a good job. It took a little while for us to get our second round of drinks - but it was good honestly so we could digest a little bit after devouring the bread and apps before receiving our dinner. The place was empty and we asked our waitress why and she stated no one has been here all day due to the weather, however we noticed both of us were extremely cold and when we finished the meal we asked the waitress why it was so cold and were told the restaurant had no heat. Brio is just as I thought it would be coming through the door, despite hoping it would be slightly more: average chain Italian food. I have been here for the happy hour and it's a relatively good deal with items that are perhaps better yet than the dinner entrees, as the calamari, beef carpaccio, and even the flatbread were quite good and serviceable. The drinks are also done nicely from the sangrias to the martinis, and my server was a sweetheart. However, I'm debating whether the food itself is any better than Olive Garden. For the high-end prices I would hope so, but I don't have experience with any of the pricier meat or fish options nor do I intend to try them. The bread was fine: hot, soft, and good with oil or butter. My only detraction is that the bread came out shortly after the meal itself. I was craving lasagna and quite honestly I enjoy a 'fast food' Italian-style lasagna every now and then, and I was hoping to be surprised. The pros: it was served hot, the noodles were cooked okay, and the cheese was fine. It was however bland and uninspired. Getting a side of marinara sauce is the right move as the lasagna comes with minimal sauce. But quite honestly this lasagna made me question whether I even enjoy going out for Italian food anymore. The dining room tells a similar story, with minimal tables and a completely empty bar on Labor Day Weekend. It is a cool partnership in theory that they serve Cake Boss cakes, but this was only fine too if I'm being honest. Brio is a chain, and with that I believe that it's fair to give criticism rather than sugarcoating: prices are high, quality is underwhelming, and I'm not sure that they'll get saved by another restaurant group. In fact, I had to treat myself the day after to a local Italian restaurant to remind myself what good Italian food tastes like. The prices were even lower for what was in my opinion 10x better quality. Bobby's Burger Palace closed and a solid Indian restaurant with much greater flavor and quality took its place. I'm not saying or hoping that will happen here, but large brands going out of business at least opens up opportunities for smaller businesses. The staff was nice so it would be a shame, but looking at what I spent on a mediocre meal albeit with good, reasonably-priced drinks makes me only want to go back on a rare occasion for the happy hour specials of a burger and appetizers. read more

Some asked for substitutes. The waiter never said that replacements were not going to be granted. In 4 meals, the changes were not granted. Honestly, the communication was poor. Entrees of Chicken Limone was ok but not very flavorful and pasta served with it was not even covered w lemon sauce. Tasted like it just came out of the water and was put on the plate. I called at 11am on 1/22/22 to reserve a table for 5 people for that evening. I also asked if they would make a traditional chicken parm entree. Once those details were set, I was looking forward to a nice dinner. Once the food arrives, 2 of the chicken parm dinners were wrong. They didn't have the sauce or cheese on top, they were just breaded cutlets. I explained that this is NOT what we ordered and the waitress proceeds to tell me they don't have what I ordered. I explained that I called 6 hours earlier and it was confirmed over the phone that this was no problem. Other staff proceeds to tell the waitress & I that the chicken is parmigiana crusted. I still told them that's not what I ordered and that I should have been told this when I ordered 30 minutes earlier. They offered to take the dinners back to have sauce and cheese put on top and I accepted and thanked them for the help. About 10-20 minutes go by and 3 of my 5 guests are eating and my daughter & I are still waiting for our dinners. When the dinners come back from the kitchen, I nearly flipped out!!!!! How hard would it have been to drizzle some sauce and a "normal" amount of mozzarella cheese..???? I understood the implied [F**K YOU] from the kitchen when served these pitiful excuses for classic chicken parmigiana. I was SO PISSED OFF! For the sake of not embarrassing my daughter or my other guests, I decided NOT to complain to management, but I'll let them see this poor review. We haven't been here for a long time as many other locations have closed down. They had open reservations on a Saturday night for 730 and I booked them at 6pm. The moment we walked in there was a problem. We waited for 15 for anyone to recognize us at the check in. We could point their hostess walking around talking to other employees and doing nothing while we and another party waited patiently. The server was friendly but she was overwhelmed and unable to check on us after our meals arrived until we were almost done. The food was good but entrees are well overpriced for basic pasta dishes. The food came out quickly as we needed this to be a fast service so this was my reason for 2 stars and not 1. If the prices were reasonable and more servers this could be easily be 3 stars for a chain restaurant. We visited this restaurant for the first time. I happen to pick this location because it was right next to the freehold Mall so we could walk around after we ate (It rained the entire day). I'm so glad it worked out! I was taken back by how beautiful the inside of this restaurant was! The whole ambiance of the restaurant was satisfying. It was meticulously clean, it had an open air to it and you could even see the cooks in the section of the kitchen. The music playing was Italian music. And it almost had a Tuscany feel to it. It had two different areas where you could book a private party, if you needed to. It also had a long bar to the left when you walked in, which was dark wood and it was absolutely beautiful. I also liked that the doors to the restrooms had the Italian word for men and women, lol! I loved the menu choices. They had your standard pasta, seafood choices, lamb, flatbread, chicken and beef. The service we received was excellent. Our servers name was Austin. He was very attentive and he had a great personality through the entire experience. The food was absolutely fantastic! We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip as an appetizer- which was the best I've ever had anywhere! We each ordered an entree. My husband (who's not big for ordering rigatoni out) ordered the Pasta Brio with grilled chicken and he said the sauce was excellent!! I ordered the sausage rigatoni arrabbiata and it was mouth watering! My son ordered the filet mignon and he said he could almost cut through it with a butter knife. For dessert, my son got the warm chocolate cake which was to die for. My husband had the Brio old fashioned and he said it was very good. I can't say enough about my experience with Brio Italian Grille in Freehold. I planned a surprise 70th birthday celebration for my sister with 36 guests. We had a private room and it was emmaculate. From booking my reservation with Ariana to stopping by and having the servers give me examples of room setup! They handled me with care. On the day of the event the service was outstanding. The manager and servers were so kind and accomadating. A special shout out must go to Gary, Tony and Christine who made feel like I chose the perfect place to celebrate my sister's birthday!
