Mark was extremely helpful, laying out any number of scenarios and alternatives. I arrived at the shop yesterday to do a ECU reset on his suggestion, which turned out to be a minor issue consistent with what he thought it would be. There has been a contradiction in my experiences. This is not a shop that I can recommend based on that. Customer service does not appear to be a strong suit and when you are dealing with building trust this is sometimes 50-75% of the deciding factor. How you are treated as a person before even getting to the auto makes or breaks it. 2 stars is only because the tech who has serviced one of the cars is amazing. Very telling when I'm treated differently than my husband especially when the truth of the exchange told to my husband is altered to try and gaslight me indirectly. You were not honest about the exchange and I didn't deserve to be treated so poorly. read more

I heard great things about this business and made an appointment 2.5 weeks in advance. I drove my 67 Jaguar XKE from Los Altos all the way to Cotati on the day of my appointment. Upon arriving 2 hours later, I pulled into the main shop garage in hopes of bringing a mechanic for a ride with me so I could replicate the issues I've been experiencing. I was not even out of the car before the owner of the shop MARK S started giving me crap for driving directly into the garage area of the shop. All he had to say was, 'hey could you park outside' ? But instead, he condescendingly asked me if I always pull in like that. I politely explained that I had an appointment and was simply bringing the car and was hoping to take a mechanic for a quick ride to replicate the issues. He responded by telling me his day would be a lot better if I didn't just swiftly pull into the shop like I own the place. The entire thing could have been resolved and not an issue to begin with if he had just asked me politely to park outside. Instead I was lectured and rudely addressed. No thanks. Walked in, greeted the owner after he was done with his telephone call. He asked me what I needed, I answer "a new engine" - he laughs! (maybe a "oh, so sorry" would be more appropriate) Then I tell him that I'm planning on rebuilding the top end of the engine (I do restore cars and am capable). I have a 64 E-Type. I put the engine , transmission & did a body off restoration. Rebuilt the carbs & install the intake. So I know what to do & how long it takes. Unfortunately I can not work on this due to health issues. Ready to start & engine is leaking oil from the bell housing. Just to take the engine out & replace the crankshaft seals ,they want $10K !!!. There are so many mechanics who pull & put the engines from all types of cars. $10K ? Assuming this remote place charges $150/hr. That is 66hrs. 8 days non-stop working on this ??This is just Scamming. I would not recommend these guys. read more

My 2014 Aston Martin needed service and a smog check. I scheduled an appointment with Mark at British European in advance. The car sits all winter and upon starting the battery was dead. I got the car started and made it to BE. Mark was fabulous in his communication and his approach to getting the work performed. No service or repair is inexpensive for an AM but Mark's price was fair and his integrity and honesty were admirable. I got the car back in 2 days which is way better than previous car repair places I've been. I will now take my Range Rover to Mark for next service. read more

For British car service in Sonoma County (and beyond), this is the place. I've worked with Mark and his crew for about ten years now dealing with a variety of British cars from my wife's daily Jaguar to my weekend-only garage queen to an old MGB. I had them do a pre-purchase inspection of an MGA I was considering some years back. The inspection revealed lots of reasons to avoid the car (or at least to be aware of if temptation proved too much) that were not apparent from my causal inspection. Money well spent. I've also had them do some piece-meal work for DIY repairs I was doing at home but for which I lacked some specialty tool only Jaguar would require. Good work doesn't come cheap so don't expect it. Do, however, expect quality work and responsive service. read more

British Motors ripped me off. My MG was working fine when I went in to have a few things checked and $6000 later it came out driving weird and then the clutch broke. I had to tow the car back to them and every day they called me adding more expenses. I took the car to a friend and he replaced the clutch for 700.00 when British Motors was going to cost me at the minimum $3500. I will never bring my car there again nor will I ever refer someone. read more

British European Motors has the WORST customer service ever. We had our Land Rover towed there due to broken lock. They called gave us a verbal bid and said the car would be fixed by the end of the week. We gave them the go ahead based on their verbal agreement. The next day they called to say they need the money UP FRONT for the parts for the repair. I have NEVER had a repair shop need money in order to afford to purchase the part. They ask for $1000.00 for parts when the whole repair was quoted for $1261.00. When we ask why the parts were so much and to please send us their quote in writing via e-mail we discovered they had tacked on a repair that we had NOT asked for. They promised the repair would be complete by Friday. We called Thursday to check on the progress and were informed one of the parts were not in. Sean promised to check on it and call us back. He never called. We called again Friday, spoke again to Sean, he said the part never came but promised it would be in Monday so we could pick it up then. He again promised to call on Monday and never called. We called him Monday of course part never came, he doesn't know why, blah, blah, blah. and told us FOR SURE it would be here Tuesday. We called Tuesday, No Part. We told him we would just come get the car, pay for the one part that they put in, and take it to our regular repair shop. When we arrived to get the car we were told we had to pay for the part that they supposedly ordered even though it has not arrived and they have NO proof it was ordered. Sean's quote "You own the part "when" it comes." Criminal! British European Motors has broken their Verbal contract over and over again and then turned around and refused to allow us to only pay for the service they provided. I would strongly recommend you take you vehicle elsewhere. They are absolutely terrible. read more

I've taken my car here a few times now and I've been impressed each time. They get work done so fast and are so understanding about my budget so they work really hard to make sure the work is done right but not so it's going to break the bank. They are really good at explaining every thing that's going on and because I'm not good with cars it's really helpful! They also called me each day they had my car and kept me updated on the work that had been done and what they still were doing. Finally what really made me so happy that this was the shop I get to take my car to was that I made an appointment with them and brought my car in 24 hours late and it was dirtier than it's ever been but they didn't even care they were happy and friendly anyways and when I picked my car up and started to drive it home I noticed that they had washed it! It was amazing! So if you guys read these reviews, thank you! Your amazing and I will always bring my car back to you! Have you ever had your car worked on then charged an enormous amount of money only to bring it home and the check engine light is on which wasn't on before? Then a mysterious leak appears HOURS after you get it back? Then after another enormous sum of money you get it back again and another mysterious leak appears in another few HOURS and surprise they want more money? The check engine light is still on, but they can fix it for a quarter of the cost of the car. I've owned many exotic cars yet this is a first for me and I hope you don't have the same experience I did. Something very fishy about this boomerang repair mechanic. I own a 2003 Jaguar XJ8. This is my second Jag XJ, both have been very reliable, but are a bit pricey to fix when broken. They're complicated and expensive cars made out of expensive parts. They aren't Toyota Corollas and I knew that when I bought them. The reviews of this shop are split between 1 star and 5 stars. I'll throw mine toward the high end with 4 stars (which apparently means, "Yay, I'm a fan). They have charged me less than was quoted when a repair went faster than anticipated. That doesn't seem like an action that "criminals" (as some have called them) would take. When my "coolant low" light came on after they repaired that problem nearly a year before they honored the warranty and fixed the repeat problem (a defective part) for no charge. They are friendly, accommodating and competent. I have had both good and bad experiences with the SF and Marin Jag dealers, but both of them were very expensive. I got an $8,000 estimate from the SF shop that didn't even address my problem. At this point, I think the blue book value of the car would argue against doing major repairs, but I love the car. At some point, I'll give up, but the cost of repairs is a function of the cost of parts and mechanics time it's not related at all to the vehicle's value. I think the nature of a repair shop business is that customers are leery of being ripped off. I think reviewers should cool off before making accusations. read more
