The first time I was in Roseburg I spent the night sleeping in a freezing cold VW Mini Bus in a parking lot on my way home from college in Seattle. I don't have fond memories of it, and the town seems not to have benefitted from the passage of time, but it was almost 7:00 and with our destination still at least 90 minutes away, we decided to dive in and try to find someplace for dinner. Brix was a good pick. We were greeted by the owner who told us about the Tuesday special deal (this is becoming a theme) which offered an app to share, one of a select group of entrees served with soup or salad, veg and potatoes, and a dessert to share for $30. Okay, this is our lucky (cheap deal) Tuesday, I guess, so we went for it. Tonight's special was prime rib. Sounded good to us, so I had mine with roasted red skin potatoes and T had his with rice pilaf. We started with the spring roll. It was vegetarian, and the veg had no assertive flavors, just a kind of generalized savoriness to it, but it was well fried and the sweet, slightly hot jelly it was served with was pleasant. The prime rib was a good sized portion (8-10 oz) without too much fat. It was perfectly cooked to the requested medium rare, and seasoned well. T complained only that he wished there were other sauce options besides just horseradish cream (which he doesn't like), and I agree a ramekin of au jus was in order. My potatoes seemed more boiled than roasted, but were well seasoned. We saved the dessert, which was a very rich looking chocolate torte, to give to our son the next day. Bring your own container for left overs. Great food. The tempura cauliflower appetizer is amazing. Friendly service. Would be a 5 except their leftover containers are styrofoam. Hope they able to make them Compostible soon! In the meantime if you plan on eating here and want to take your leftovers home, make sure to bring your own Tupperware until the owners transition away from styrofoam. Also, styrofoam is bad because it gets into the ocean; takes over 500 to 1 million years to decompose and in the process let's harmful chemicals get into the environment. I am sad to say I have bid farewell to what you as once my favorite restaurants. I gave the new owners 4 chances and plenty of time to get their groove down. Todays lunch actually made me sick. The chicken artichoke nachos tasted as if the chips had been cooked in old grease and reheated in a microwave. The cheese was so hard it was inedible. Brix was recommended to us by a professional chef who lives locally. She told us we would get a great meal here because everything was fresh and made from scratch. How could we resist? Started with a cup of the soup of the day, green chili chicken lime. It was thick, full of white beans, rice, chili, chicken and a fabulously flavorful, spicy broth. Topped with a couple freshly fried tortilla chips. Outstanding! The soup came with my sandwich, a huge club sandwich that could only be half eaten. Everything on the sandwich was generous and tasted awesomely wonderful, but especially the BACON...oh my, thick, smoked and sugary goodness, me oh my! This bacon served on cardboard would still be the best. I could cry. And then, I ordered a piece of their chocolate cake to go. Barely got out to the car and Mr. B was diving into the container. Well, if I died and went to heaven after eating a piece of this, there would be no regrets. The dark chocolate ganache used for filling and frosting...perfect. If only this place were closer to where I live, I would be here quite frequently. Lunchtime ends at 3. The rave reviews really surprise me. The good: friendly service . They are busy and under-staffed, but we were sat quickly and our server was nice. Portions are big and food is affordable. Bad: The coffee . This was the first thing I noticed when served stale, burned tasting coffee. It was quickly replaced but the new coffee was watered down and just yuck. Everything was dirty. Caked on something or other was on 4 spoons and 2 of our plates. Neural: Food is ok. They have really interesting flavor ideas, but poorly executed. I ordered the Blue Louie Bay Crab salad with lime vinaigrette ($16) and my friend got the Balsamic BlackBerry Forage with chicken ($11+ 3.5 for the chicken.) The crab salad was fresh and light. The crab was good and it came with little shrimp that looked to be the canned variety. It also included some avocado, tomato, a (overly) boiled egg, and Gorgonzola cheese. Overall, a good choice but nothing mind blowing or astounding. The forage salad was a nice blend of flavors- sweet, creamy, tart, and savory. Came for breakfast. The server was awesome, and the menu sounded really good -- it had all the usual breakfast items. However, every single thing tasted like it was cooked in rancid oil, so it all had a bad taste. I kept trying the omelette and the potatoes, but every bite tasted weird, and I just gave up. Loved this place when we first moved here, in the last year or so the vibe has changed, we went to dinner on a Friday night at 7pm, specifically looking for their clam chowder, one worker told us they didn't make and another stated they ran out. The place was dead, maybe five tables filled, yet we had to wait for food that made us fill sick to our stomach afterwards, the staff was not attenuative to our needs. This place was not very clean. There was a hairball in my napkin-wrapped utensils. While the hostess and our server were kind and attentive to us, the food we were served was unfortunately terrible. The kids' chicken strips were almost completely raw, aside from the outside breaded layer. The kitchen loudly laughed it off as "medium rare" and recooked the food to be barely passable. The pasta had an off texture, the greens were wilted in the salad, and the rest of the chicken dishes had questionable texture but were covered in sauce so we couldn't see how it was cooked. We stopped here out of desperation because we needed a bathroom and some food, but it is not worth it. Make the push to go to a better spot or a different city. I have been a regular customer for the past 3 years, I get one of two things. I have noticed over the past few months the customer service has changed. The wait times are longer, the staff is short, and the food is not what it used to be. Today I ordered food to-go, waited a total of 40 mins for my food when I was quoted 20. The food comes out on a plate and I watched a waitress who was serving table prior, grab my food bare-handed off of the plate and stick it into a to-go box, her hands were not washed. Recently visited this place with my girlfriend and had a meal. The last couple of times wasn't a good experience. The food was good albeit for some items quantity is smaller than before. Brix has changed its menu slightly. We always get a table next to the kitchen and can observe the people cooking the food, the kitchen staff and servers have seemed to be in turmoil. Last time we were there, too many orders were in the window that some fell on the floor and broke the plates. Orders were piled on top of each other and the servers had to keep checking the tickets. One of the kitchen personnel seemed very arrogant, he expressed an "I don't care attitude" thru body language and speech. My girlfriend and I decided after the meal that we are giving Brix a rest for awhile. We will seek a great dinning experience some where else. read more

Roseburg is a town in transition, from a logging and mill community, into a hub for outdoor recreation. Change is the order of the day, and sometimes that is a great thing. Brix cafe is part of that great change, and WOW are they welcome! Used to be, the best one could hope for when passing through Roseburg was a greasy spoon or boring family restaurant, no longer! Brix serves breakfast and lunch until 3, the choices are myriad, and all the food is homemade. My husband got a Caesar salad with a mushroom Swiss burger (no bun) on it! Yes, a burger on his salad, how keto! (Not our thing, but nice that it's available for those who are) I had an exquisite lavender lemon drop, and an Italian grinder with a cup of soup. Delicious! The staff is super nice and very hardworking, present without being annoying. Great stop! Came here with our kids on the way back home from the coast. I was concerned about kid options after looking at the menu photos on yelp. They have a decent little kids menu with some great options. My daughters had the chicken pasta Alfredo and the pizza. Both were perfect for them. My wife has the 537 burger and I had the steak nacho bowl. All were excellent. Some of their drinks look amazing but we don't have time for a drink. We will definitely be coming back. After going to old Town Roseburg for the 10th time to get my wife's phone fixed, we decided to visit our old haunt for a drink and appetizer. We decided to sit at the bar. Tables were busy and the bar seating was empty. I specifically told the waitress I wanted a "well" long island iced tea. And my wife ordered a lavender lemon martini. Now I'm no idiot when it comes to long island iced teas. Anyone who knows me knows that's my weapon of choice whenever I drink is a long island iced tea. It's "my thing." Ergo, I pretty much know how much it's going to cost. Apparently Brix likes to cater to the upper 2%, and charges accordingly. Their deep pocket strategy pricing must have escaped my thought process. 12.00 for a long island iced tea in Roseburg Oregon is a price which should have been charged in.....well....Long Island!! But I didn't know the price. I, like a dummy, didn't ask. Why would I?? The highest price I have EVER encountered in Roseburg has been 9.75. And that price ranges well over 10 establishments. To include McMenimums. But wait....there's more. We were drawn, by the bartender, to a sultry looking bottle of "vodka like" booze called hypnotiq. She sold us for a shot. Not just one? She queried us. When asked how much it was per shot she responded.....this is the part where airbags are needed, 9.00 per shot. Well criminy sakes, that MUST be pretty good hooch. But, me being me, we "shared" a shot. You know, don't wanna blow your wad in one night. It was Ok. Not spectacular...just ok. So we pay our tab with tip and decide to head home by way of the green front (that's old school talk for liquor store) and pick us up our tequila and see how much that hypnotiq hooch is. Now, here is why that after frequenting Brix grill for the last 2 years, at least 1 time a month I will NEVER BE BACK! Greed is something that creeps up on a business. And when you instruct your people to sell your products at exorbitant prices because you, the owner, likes to ski behind sail boats and have expensive toys, you are living way above your means at the expense of your employees and patrons. That 5th of Hypnotiq cost you less than 19.00. If I would have bought 2 shots.....well,you do the math. You should be ashamed. But I feel that ownership such as yours would simply say to someone like me, "Don't take it personal, it's only business." You food is great, your personel deserving. I can't return because you saw me as a marque. A sucker. Your people made us feel welcome and they were inviting. Is this about money? To a degree, yes. To me, it's more of a trust issue. They were quick to respond to us and helpful offering us a booster and colored pens for our granddaughter to color with. The food came really quick as we were at the end of rush time.
