My husband and i found this place while in Chico this weekend and it was such a nice experience that I wish I could go back for sandwich. We ordered just the appetizers as it was late afternoon. Their garlic focaccia was sooo good. So was their bruschetta. Their focaccia bread was warm fresh and soft. The thai wedges were good. The dough had fennel and it was topped with peanut sauce, carrots. Our server Maria was very friendly. Our table was near the window. The restaurant is big and bright and it was comfortable. I decided to try out Broadway Heights after I saw it was voted 'Best In Chico'. We came here for lunch, and I noticed the place had a lot of customers already. Broadway Heights is located on the 2nd floor of a building. At first, I wasn't sure whether to sit inside or 'outside' (even though its not really outside the building). When we got seated inside the restaurant, it was a bit too nosy for us. We decided to switch to 'outside', and it was much quieter. It was nice to have a window to look out on downtown Chico. After looking at the menu, I decided to order the 10 inch Margherita Pizza. We had to wait about 15 minutes before our food came out. The pizza was pretty good. There was a lot of basil on top, which made it taste great. The crust was crispy on the bottom, too. After we ate, we decided to order the Chocolate Lava Cake with the white expresso sauce on the side. The chocolate lava cake came out within 5 minutes and it was super delicious! I'd highly recommend this if you are a fan of chocolate. The expresso sauce tasted good with the lava cake, too. Overall, the service was pretty good here. We got our food fairly quickly. Hadn't been there in a while and had a craving for their Thai Chicken pizza. Ordered online. Was told my food would be ready around 6:40. Showed up at 6:40 to find out that they were behind and it would be a few minutes. Ok, I understand, no biggie. 30 minutes later (remember this is 30 minutes AFTER my food was supposed to be ready) the young man at the counter apologizes and says that the Club salad I ordered with my pizza came out of the kitchen as a sandwich and they were remaking it. By this time my pizza had been sitting there patiently waiting. I'm not really patiently waiting anymore. He finally brings me my food and apologizes and offers some sodas because of the wait. Um, no thank you, but they might have been nice while I was waiting. Get my food home to find that the Club salad I ordered was instead a pretty sad, pretty basic salad. At least it was a large portion? The pizza barely had a drizzle of peanut sauce in it. They had my phone number on my order. I think the least they could have done is let me know how behind they were to give me other options for dinner. read more

I enjoy coming here for a good sandwich. I like that its an atmosphere with a view of downtown Chico. I have been here a few times & the food so far has yet to disappoint. I personally enjoy their avocado & turkey sandwich, and others I have gone with have enjoy other sandwiches( like the pastrami). Their pizzas are also great and they have a great lunch deal on a pizza lunch during the week. So why not 5 stars? The staff is kinda hit & miss. Sometimes they are attentive & other times you feel like kinda forgot about. I was just there yesterday & was waiting for my two sister in laws to join me. I asked the manger who seated me if I could please have three waters because I had two more people coming and he responded with " I will just bring you one"... I lived in chico for 3 years without stumbling upon it or really hearing anyone talk about it but once I did hear about it I looked it up and ended up trying it out that night. And I'm so glad I did! I have recently re-come to this place to give them another try and I had a really good experience! I had the cyclone sandwich and my friend had the chicken bacon melt sandwich. They were both delicious and huge! I definitely couldn't finish my sandwich by myself, the only thing I do have to say is that after awhile the bread does get a bit soggy from the meat and sauce but as long as you eat it quickly it's all fine! Food is great but the only thing I would bring up is the description of the Asian spirit that they use and they describe in their menu. With being half korean I know Japan doesn't make soju they make Shochu which are made by different ingredients and ways. Just grabbing a snippet from the internet and this article pops up. Know your Soju from your Shochu. ... It's not soju. It's shochu, and while this Japanesespirit may be lesser known to some, shochu, which is typically brewed from grains or starches then distilled, is popping up on bar shelves in D.C., especially when it comes to cocktails.. Here is the link to better assist you with your explanation of Shochu not Soju (they sound similar but are different in alot of ways). I ordered the $16.95 pastrami reuben-style sandwich, on (allegedly) rye bread. After going to so much trouble to make house-made pastrami, a process that takes over 2 weeks, the cook wrecked the sandwich by serving it on completely limp, damp, soggy bread. What an unappetizing, falling-apart mess he ended up with. Waste of good pastrami. There are techniques for making a pastrami reuben while keeping the bread dry and crisp, but this chef is not a good enough cook to know what they are. A secondary point: coarse-ground multi-grain bread has its place, but not masquerading as rye bread on a New-York style reuben. I won't be coming back for that. read more

This probably one of my favorites restaurants now. They were the only place that would let us sit in their gallery room with a several babies. Their food is outstanding! Pastrami sandwich on their homemade focaccia bread, DELICIOUS. Service is always courteous and acceptable of restrictions. I enjoy walking around looking at the artwork from local artists. I'd always get the Thai Chicken sando with the soup. It was always absolutely amazing. Fast forward over a decade. I'm older, financially secure, and out of town. However, whenever I'm back in Chico I always, always, always try to swing by for lunch whenever possible. I still order the Thai Chicken sando with the soup. It's still amazing. The restaurant is comfortable, even though I'm a bit hesitant about eating up stairs from the record store, just something new to me. No regrets, the service has a quirk to it and that made the experience much better, or maybe I just have good luck and got the good waitress; who knows. The Turkey Avocado is really the only sandwich I get here. It's pretty good! We use to go to this place more, but the main waitress there has gotten a little bit more of a "tude" since the change in management. She used to be so nice! I've also been there for a wedding rehearsal a few years ago, and the food was really good for that! Our favorite spot is in the main restaurant area next to one of the big windows. I love looking down at Broadway street while enjoying my lunch. Definitely a bucket list place for those visiting Chico to try. read more

My husband and I found a babysitter, dressed up, and came in for our date night. We were sat on the balcony, and then we sat for 20 min with our menus sideways to signal we were ready to order and yet no server came to check on us. After 20 minutes of waiting we just got up and left. If it takes that long to meet our server on a slow night then how long will it take for our meal? We don't expect "fast food" and if the restaurant had been packed then we would have understood, but considering conditions we left. Service was great and we enjoyed the servers. Food tasted pretty bad though. A few entree dishes lacked the flavor and quality I was hoping for. Caesar salad was great, and I did think the garlic Parmesan focaccia toast appetizer was decent along with some pesto (requested separately). The plain focaccia reminded me of a bread machine bread without a nice crust, which wasn't impressive. The tomato soup was too watery and lacked robust flavor. Clam chowder was also bland. The chicken Parmesan had a tough and overly thick breast, bland crust, with cheap tasting red sauce and pasta. Having a good salad Caesar salad dressing just isn't enough for me to want to risk spending my money on low quality food again. read more

I have to say that I appreciate a restaurant that can get a couple in on Valentine's Day without reservations. Especially since there are limited choices for "nicer" places to eat in downtown Chico. We had about a 30 minute wait which was perfect because we got to troll some bars in the vicinity while we waited. They called on the cell when they had a table for us and were very accommodating to sit us by a window. We had a cesear salad with prosciutto and a chicken garlic pizza with sundried tomatoes. The cesear dressing was out of this world! Clearly homemade and very garlicky. The pizza was also nice and the service was excellent. She even let us try the salad dressing with some homemade bread before we committed to ordering. If we're back in this neighborhood at some point in the future, we would definitely consider going back! read more

My boyfriend and I decided to brave the high prices (for us they were high anyway) because we enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant, but were disappointed with the food and annoyed with the service. The host was polite, but we were practically ignored by the servers. When they did happen to notice us (and it wasn't that busy) they were outright rude to us. One girl took our order, though she made it clear through her tone of voice and overly casual manner that it wasn't her table and she didn't have to be polite to us, while we watched our actual server sweeping up the floor in a leisurely fashion. We waited a ridiculously long time to get a couple of sandwiches, and they were very bland. The tomato soup tasted like a can of Campbell's with some Parmesan sprinkled on top. Finally, our server came by and grabbed my card without letting me see the bill first, and when she came back she told me which was my copy and which was hers in an almost territorial tone of voice... as though I couldn't tell when one was wrapped around my card and the other had a pen on top of it. Overall, the neat atmosphere does not balance out the bland food, terrible service and high prices (for what they were serving). read more

And it is the best. I love the Turkey Italiano and the Club is also quite tasty. They have the best soups. The tomato basil is by far the best I have ever tasted. The bread is so good I could sleep on it... seriously. So soft, so fresh, so warm and good... My friend begged me to come here so many times and it just never occured to me since I was pretty satisfied with my daily slice of Celestino's but when I did I wished I had been more than just twice in my whole four-year-college-career at Chico... OH WELL! That's why I'll just have to come back and visit now that I have money to splurge on fancy sandwiches and soup! The last couple of times we went it was mediocre, but we thought we'd give it another shot since at one time it was WAY better. Had Tomato Basil soup, a Caesar, and the Mahi w/rice, veggies and mashed potatoes. Soup tasted like it came out of a can, salad was bad, and the entrees were luke warm and had zero flavor. It tasted like the lunch lady at the school cafeteria made our dinner and put it under a heat lamp until we got there. If I didn't know any better I would have thought it came from Hometown Buffet.
