I think the other reviewers have this place spot on - a blah expensive attempt at New York style bagels. I was here at around 11am on a Sunday and had the turkey avocado sandwich on an everything bagel. $10.45 for the bagel sandwich and a small coffee, and the bagel was, as others have noted, stale. Coffee was excellent. Really bummed there wasn't any place to sit and eat, I pathetically ate in my car parked out front. Long story short, still need to fly to NJ for some good bagels. read more

He was very concerned about my customer experience and offered a sincere apology. I have since moved out of Wicker Park and don't frequent the area so I could not take him up on his offer for a re-do. I've always wanted to try this place and finally did. The place is a bit small but it's more of a "take it and go" place I think. I had the breakfast special. Eggs, pimento cheese, bacon, avocado and arugula. It was so so good! The bagel was on point. It was very quick service. I paid and had my bagel probably within 10 minutes. The staff is great and friendly which makes you feel like family. I actually think they have family working there which makes the place even better. The bagels are good and the choices are endless, but other then the great staff and food they might be a bit pricy. This summer I took it upon myself to visit all of the "best" bagel places in Chicago. I drove to Skokie on more than one occasion and ate egg and cheeses on everything bagels in my car in front of the most beloved bagel institutions of the Chicago area. They were cheap but did not scratch the itch. I was left sad and disappointed. "These aren't bagels, this isn't an egg sandwich," I bemoaned everyone and everyone that would listen. I am of east coast stock and picky about most things. I miss bodegas (also carts) with egg and cheeses for 2.50 that are fresh with real eggs and good rolls. I especially miss bagels. Who would've thought that a place with such a name as "BRO BAGEL" (only in Chicago?) would make the best bagels in the mid-west*. I love their bagels but their egg and cheese situation could be improved. American cheese is the best breakfast sandwich cheese and they really need to fix their eggs. They are grainy. Waited for 35 minutes for a bagel & cream cheese. This place has good bagels but the service was confusingly slow. There were at least 8 people working behind the counter however none of them seemed to be working with any sense of urgency. It was obvious they were backed up given how many people were waiting but they did nothing to resolve this issue or warn new customers that the wait was longer than usual. When customers who had been waiting for 30+ minutes started to inquire about their orders, the staff seemed annoyed by customers and responded that the wait was long and there were other orders ahead of the. There were also 2 or 3 servers that appeared to be walking around or socializing with each other which grew frustrating the longer we waited. When we finally did get our food, one of the bagels was untoasted even though the order was for 2 toasted bagels. Overall, very disappointed with the staff. read more

Bro bagel, has great bagels, they remind me much more of NYC bagels than any other bagel I've had in Chicago. But their service is terrible! A trio of clueless hipster girls chaotically man the bagel station without any sense of order. They ignore you until they are ready to deal with you. They lose track of orders and are extremely slow. Which is just unacceptable in a place that has one line station of bagel making. I'm not trying to be mean, I go here all the time cuz the bagels are great and would really like to see their service improve. They need to great the first person in line immediately. Great bagels, great spreads, and, most of all, great service. Went there a few days ago and got their bacon, egg and cheese bagel with the sriracha spread. Never seen this spread before, though now I'm glad it exists. It was toasted nicely, and was nice and warm when I went to the park to eat it. Poured myself a Metropolis coffee, and I was good to go. I wanted to give a special shout out to the staff, too. Though this establishment is new, the staff was very professional, and they all greeted me with a smile. That makes such a difference in one's experience, as there are too many restaurants in this neighborhood where it seems as if you are doing the staff a disservice by being their customer. The manager with the blue hair and tattoos was my favorite, and it turned out that she's the culinary genius behind this menu. Kudos to her for being on top of her staff (as it was a busy time of the day, and she still managed to professionally explain her menu to me) while also being level-headed and courteous. I was hoping for a great experience since Piece is so awesome but I was sadly mistaken. The place is EXTREMELY small so if you are planning on grabbing a breakfast sandwich and coffee to enjoy there before you start your day, you better go somewhere else. I took my mom and boyfriend there for a quick Saturday morning breakfast because we didn't feel like spending $40+ on a sit-down place before we ran errands. Let me just say ANYTHING would have been better than what we experienced. I ordered 3 sandwiches (average $5), coffee, OJ, water and 1/2 dozen bagels to go. Grand total... $43.21!!!! I told the girl to shut up when she gave me the total. I was just blow away by this. For bagels and sandwiches with eggs and cheese?!? Screw that! After I tried to get over the feeling that I was just literally bent over, I went to eat my million dollar sandwich. FAIL! The bagel was SO hard and the sandwich was SO disappointing! All of us felt the same way. I was expecting a nice, harder outside, softer inside bagel and that is NOT what we got. Easily the best bagel in Chicago. A good friend of mine who is a chef here in Chicago recommended them (he serves bro bagel at one of his restaurants for brunch). Five stars all around for this bagel joint! It was my first time in Brobagel today and I am so glad I decided to stop by and try it out. The staff was inviting and attentive and made me feel like they were genuinely happy to have me there. I have also not been to a place in quite some time where everyone seemed to be equally knowledgeable about the food. The girl who made my sandwich also told me how the bagels were made, super cool! My daughter was with me today and she placed her own order ( she is four ) and the staff was very patient with her. They even asked her name and called it out for her order, which she got a kick out of. I had a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel which was delicious. I want to try something else when I go back but I may just have to get the same thing. My daughter got a cinnamon raisin bagel with a pumpkin cream cheese they had on special and she devoured the whole thing. Can't wait to come back! read more

I really want to like this place, but I shouldn't have to wait 30 minutes for a bagel with cream cheese and an egg sandwich. There were probably 6 people working and I felt like they were moving backwards. At one point the coffee machine started steaming and 4 people went to look at it, well mostly just stand around it, while one person worked on the orders. There was one person dedicated to the register, which seemed unnecessary since there was such a back up of orders. 30 minutes later I got my bagels and mine was stale. I could've gone to Dunkin across the street and gotten similar quality 25 minutes faster and cheaper. read more

I love the bagels at Brobagel, but the management really needs to do better. Every time I go on a Saturday or Sunday morning, they are completely unprepared for the number of people there. There are never enough bagels and never enough staff, so there are long lines and you have to wait forever. The poor staff always seem flustered by how "busy" they are. Come on, you're a bagel place! Of course traffic is going to be higher on the weekend. Plan better--hire enough staff to work those shifts, make more bagels. Waiting 45 minutes might be fine next door at Piece, but it's not okay when all you want is a bagel. read more

Grabbed a bakers dozen last weekend, along with some scallion cream cheese, and am very happy with them. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and wonderful flavor. Everything about this place was underwhelming. I waited at least twenty minutes to get a dense and doughy cinnamon raisin bagel that wasn't sweet and had no tastable cinnamon in it. I could get past that, but the cream cheese situation was honestly gross. It seems like they don't have separate knives for each flavor of cream cheese, because in my bagel, I had visible smears of chive cream cheese, and could taste some other garlic-y type of cream cheese too. I was so disappointed in my Brobagel experience. My wife and I love Piece and have been meaning to go to the bagel shop since it opened. Let's start with the menu. No sausage? Really? Sausage, egg, and cheese seems to me to be a staple of breakfast places, but fine we'lll get something different. The service was meh. The people were not rude, but definitely not warm and inviting, characteristics that should be apart of any customer service experience. I ordered and ham and cheese and my wife ordered ham, egg, and cheese. I ordered first, and at no time did the words eggs, come out of my mouth. I do not like scrambled eggs. So, about 15 minutes later, we get our two sandwiches and head out the door. Once we get home, I discover that both sandwiches contained eggs. What's the big deal, just take the egg off right? Well, all the cheese was connected to the egg, so I wound up paying $6 for a bagel with a few slices of ham on it. Do yourself a favor, and skip Brobagel and stick to the Einsteins or something. It may be a chain, but the people are nice, and you get what you ordered at a fair price. read more
