If you're looking for a fun Pirates of the Caribbean themed restaurant and bar, look no further! Everything from the secret entrance, to the decor, to the food and drinks is tiki bar / pirate themed. While the service was phenomenal, I found the food to be hit and miss. I loved my Thai noodle salad with shrimp. Adding shrimp brought this dish from $18 to $28, and while I think that's a little pricey for a bowl of rice noodles (with some edamame and peanuts) with five shrimp, it was delicious and I would totally get it again. The poke nachos arrived on a huge tray filled with deep fried wontons. The poke was delicious! Unfortunately there wasn't even remotely enough poke to eat all the deep fry wontons with. I think my friend and I each got five or six bites with Poke pieces in them. That's fine, but they should cut back on the number of deep fried wontons. I hate food waste and I would imagine they end up throwing away a lot of deep fried wontons. We also got the key lime pie for dessert. I love key lime pie, but this was so tart that I could only eat three bites. My friend and I both thought it had a slightly grapefruity taste to it. We did not finish it. A couple of things to note before you head here: it's extremely dark and loud inside. If your of a certain age, as I am, be prepared to use the flashlight on your phone to read the menu. Also be prepared to strain to hear the rest of your party speak. Our bill came to a total of $114 before tax. This included one appetizer, two main dishes, one dessert, and two alcoholic beverages. Without the alcoholic beverages are total would have been more like $75. Drinks are definitely pricey here, but they're also very yummy. read more

My boyfriend and I decided to try out BCT after spending time at the Burbank Historical. We haven't been their since it was Buchanan Arms. We both ordered the Pub Burger and shared the fish tots appetizer which were a chef kiss. Our disappointment was our bartender. We sat at the bar and he didn't even greet us. He didn't ask us what we would like to drink, nor offer us a menu. He acted like he had just woke up and that we were bothering him. He never came by to ask us how was anything or if we needed anything. We were the ones that had to try to get his attention. The girl bartender that was helping the couple sitting next to us was so engaged with them and chatting with them. It's a shame that we gave him a tip only because my boyfriend is a nice person. The only downside I can think of is the over hour wait we had (good sign of good food to come), but I liked that you could always check the time of how many parties ahead of you, and what the new wait time looks like. Broken Compass is another great valley tiki bar, with an excellent food menu as well. It's like stepping into Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean ride - they are deeply committed to the seven-seas theme with a ship's mast overhead, porthole mirrors in the bathrooms, and a seagull & wave soundtrack. We ordered several tiki drinks and two sandwiches. The drinks were strong, especially the navy grog. The pirate punch with white rum and absinthe was my favourite. They were presented festively in tiki glasses with umbrellas, flowers, plastic palm tree stirrers. The sandwiches were positively stacked. The (not) hot chicken sandwich was giant, packed with slaw and pickles and a flavourful fried chicken breast. My Isle Of Club was a monster: delectable breaded pork, bacon, pineapple, sauces, plus JALAPENO POPPERS on sourdough. It was a delicious beast. When we were seated, we were informed of a 90-minute time limit on our table. We weren't expecting that, but we were fine with it - we understood that there must be a need for it, especially since the place is rather small. We also weren't jazzed about the table we got - a small table for two flanked, very cosily, by two of the same - but again, we didn't make a fuss about it. The place was obviously busy. The older, well-dressed, well-spoken couple next to us, however, wanted whoever thought up that time limit rule to walk the plank! They had been at their table for over two hours and yo ho ho, they were going to leave when they felt like it. Multiple employees reminded them of the 90-minute policy, but avast! Their asses were staying glued to those seats and they would go down with the ship if they had to. They'd been there when we were seated and they were still there when we left. If a table time limit policy would shiver your timbers too, maybe try coming early on a weeknight when it's less busy. read more

Ambience and staff are great in this unique, well-themed pirate ship restaurant / bar. This unassuming location is easily missed if you drive by, trees blocking the signage. Once inside, the themed design creates an instantly immersive experience. One of the lower priced venues in LA, especially Happy Hour! $5 Fish Tots (Cod) were perfectly cooked & worth it for 5 big pieces. We had tots, Chicken Sliders & a Smashburger. Extremely large tropical drink selection. Fish tots were awesome, Chicken Slider was spicy HOT! While the presentation and appearance of the food is not great, they did had flavor and am glad that it is simple, well cooked food that is not pretentious. Regular tots and smashburger were just ok, but still worth the price. Bathroom is very unique & immensely themed. It actually adds to the experience, which sounds odd. Sounds of the seagulls & ocean in a darkly lit setting were amusing. Servers roam between tables, so we had multiple chances to order. Max & Erin were great, frequently checking in. Food & drinks came quickly. Overall, an 'experience' that makes you want to revisit. Great prices for the area, you should not expect a trendy / forward food menu, and the ambience created is difficult to achieve. I would probably give them a 3.5 if I could. I've been here about four times now, so I feel like I can give an honest review. There's a new door system now. The new front door has a hostess stand, a waiting area and place to purchase merchandise. It was very well lit. When we entered the host gave us a "boarding ticket" which I thought was a cute idea. This lets the seater in the next room know where to seat us. The staff is always friendly and pretty attentive given that it's a pretty loud tiki bar. The main room is kitschy pirate inspired tiki lounge. My partner loves it. He really enjoys feeling like he's somewhere else. This go around, we ordered the brussel sprouts, the pork french dip with fries (special menu item), and a tofu sandwich with fries. The brussels were good. The pork dip was BEYOND salty. I tried to eat it without the dip to lessen the saltiness, but even then, I could only take 3 bites. The fries were overly salted too. By the time I left my tongue felt aggravated from the salt intake. The tofu sandwich was mid. It needed more substance. The tofu was soft and needed more chew to make the sandwich feel hearty. The crunch was not enough. The drinks were good. I got an alcohol free drink and my partner got a shark bite. Both tasted fine. Also, what's with starting the tip pricing at 20%? I normally tip 20%, but I find it a bit ballsy to start at 20%. So, we decided that we will only go for the drinks and the atmosphere. No more eating there. read more

If I could put a review labeling this place the best place on earth, I would. And it is. The moment you walk in, atmosphere, aesthetic, mood, general energy, changes. I fell in love before i even saw the menu. Now don't even get me started on that world class water. Best water I've ever consumed. Perfectly cold and delectably drinkable. They have a whole freaking sign for their sauces and dips. I'm in love. I got a Shirley temple and if i could marry a place instead of a person, the Shirley temple would be my reason. It was FANTASTIC. Our server, Isaiah, was absolutely amazing and on top of things, refilling our water before we even hit half glass. Not to mention his energy and vibe was so welcoming and fun. We got the PuPu platter for two, came out within minutes, I could spend the rest of my life eating that alone. Isaiah recommended his favorite sauces, Garlic Chive and Chipotle Citrus, they were amazing. We got the shrimp and lobster roll, I officially entered heaven. The Isles of Club sandwich was the finishing touch that had me laughing from joy. Near the end of our dining we meant Max, another server, who is absolutely fantastic, brought us everything we needed, boxes, sauce containers, bags, to-go dessert. His energy was also amazing and super fun. The servers were very nice and atmosphere was great, but management sort of left a bad taste in my mouth. Put a 90$ hold on my card without warning me or anything. Went back in to ask about it and manager was kind of rude, non empathetic kinda just shrugged it off that there was a significant hold on my card. Was just told "it should come back on your card in a few days", but made me feel kinda dumb for coming back in to ask about this. Wow! We are so impressed with this place! My cousin referred us here and this was both of our first time trying this place out. I must shout out our server Isaiah A. who took really great care of us the whole night and we even shared some laughs together. We got a multitude of different things to try: drinks, appetizers, entrees, sides, and desserts. Absolutely everything was delicious! My husband and I decided to spot by here after dinner. We had such a fun time. This place truly gives you a "Tiki" experience! Even the bathrooms have an ocean sound and feel to them. We didn't try their food there like I mentioned before, we had dinner somewhere else. I tried two of their drinks and dessert. I had their chupacabra vacation and their bittersweet paradise drinks. Both drinks were great, but my favorite one was their chupacabra vacation, I like drinks that are on the sweeter side. The grand poobah Key Lime Pie was really good tarty and sweet. The drinks looked cool and fun but two didn't drinks tasted the exact same and they weren't good unfortunately. They didn't taste boozy or fruity, just bitter. I've never had a bitter mai tai. Let me start off by saying that the service here was terrible. We were alerted that the table had a 90 minute seat time, so when we're sat at the table, we assumed the service would be a lot better. We sat for over 15 minutes without our server once stopping by the table. We finally had our order taken by the guy who initially sat us down, only after that did the waitress come to the table to ask if our order had been taken. She brought us our food and that was the last time we saw her. It seemed like she was more concerned with the group of French people sitting at the table behind us. We had to ask an additional server for the check and a box after sitting for close to another 10 minutes. For reference this was a Saturday afternoon and the restaurant was not busy. At the end of the gathering we all walked out and nobody had anything nice to say after it was served. The onion rings and homemade garlic aioli was the only sides i tasted from other peoples meals. Entree: Thai Peanut Salad with tofu Im trying to find something good about the salad and all i can think of was the Peanuts tasted fresh..... The biggest sin was the "Sesame-Peanut dressing" that tasted like vinegar. If its a vinaigrette list it on the menu as such it was so unpleasant i took 3 bite and gave up. Since it was "Happy hour" and i was still hungry i ordered a small caesar salad, so that i wouldn't starve. It came out and it was so bland i didn't even finish it. Service: Was good but not great, no "pre" drops but 2 table touches. *Check you bill before paying, seems a 4 top they already include a 20% gratuity...... In the end we all decided Broken Compass Tiki was not worth a revisit. The prices, quality of food, atmosphere was okay. What fun! I wanted to take my son out with some family and friends for his 21st birthday. This place did not disappoint! We ate lots of food from poke nachos, Caesar salad to Brussel sprouts, spaghetti and meatballs and much more. We tried many drinks and all had great feedback. I asked the bartender for recommendation for a special drink for my son and she recommended the chupacabra. I'm used to going to tiki bars and I thought this place was a bar, but it's more of a restaurant. I came on a busy Friday night and I enjoyed my time. I sat at the bar where you can also dine. I had poke nachos and a hot chicken sandwich. The poke nachos are perfect for sharing, however these were not poke nachos. The fried wontons were good, but that's about it for the dish itself. Poké is topped with fish, but this was more like salsa or ceviche. There was little to no fish or avocado. Instead cucumber and tomato were used to make it appear as if there is fish and avocado. That's definitely a new one for me in eating this particular dish. So hard pass on that. The hot chicken sandwich. Was tasty and (thankfully) not too messy to eat. I had it with onion rings which were good and on the bigger side. To drink I had Bittersweet Paradise it was a strong one. read more

Hands down the best mixed drinks and food in Burbank! It's tough to find great bars with food in this area and The Broken Compass is not to be missed. Not only is the shipwrecked decor and lighting captivating but so are their cocktails, which are made from fresh ingredients. Their bartenders are experienced with a wide knowledge of mixed beverages. This is a real bar people, come ready to enjoy and drink up! They are closed on Mondays, BUT, if you have time don't miss their daily happy hour from 2pm till 5pm. Try the sliders and get a cold beer on tap for a great value. Think "high-end pub food," but on the spicier, zestier side of flavors. One last mention is that they still offer a variety of unique housemade dips from their previous menu. Tiki bar fan here. Visited yesterday, excited to explore a new tiki bar and happy hour menu. The decor is great and we were greeted and offered seats as soon as we walked in. Strong start. However, the service left a lot to be desired. It took a few minutes just to be waited on, although it wasn't busy and a bartender was standing nearby talking to an alcohol rep while we sat waiting. The gentleman finally waited on us and although nice, came across a bit condescendingly when asking for an ingredient exclusion . Same thing happened again when asking the second bartender if he could add some pineapple juice to the Mai tai (I'm more accustomed to the trader Vic's version, but their classic did grow on me after a while), but he caught himself and corrected course. As someone who is a lover of chips and onion dip I was excited to try the one they had on their happy hour menu. It's fantastic, but we ran out of chips well before the dip. I asked if it was possible to get a few more chips and the bartender said they can't make more chips unless we order the chips and dip again... but that we would probably be in the same predicament of being left with dip and no chips once more. Sounded like pointing out a problem without a solution. A very odd approach indeed. I almost ordered more, but my partner stopped me. Seems silly that they can't throw in a few more chips for first time customers, especially after I spent $65 for a brief Happy Hour visit. Customer service didn't appear to be a top focus of this establishment during my visit, but perhaps it was an off day. The vibe unfortunately wasn't very warm or welcoming.
