I absolutely loved this place! The aesthetic and the ambiance are amazing. It literally feels like you've stepped into a portal to a magical place. I had tried a pastry and coffee on the bakery side and then had a sandwich on the other side for lunch. The service was great. The coffee I had was delightful. Even the carrot cake I ordered had edible flowers and glitter in it! The whole place is definitely an experience and needs to be had at least once. I would definitely return again for different foods and drinks. I didn't try any of the drinks from the bar but it looked like they could make just about anything. The concept of this place is cool but the execution needs some work. 1) we didn't have a reservation which I totally understand being an issue if they were slammed but they weren't. And the hostess was lacking in courtesy. Instead of saying something like "we can seat you in 30 minutes" or "if you go online, you can make a reservation right now". But no. She was short, said we could sit in the cafe if there are seats available. There were but we didn't feel very welcomed. 2) There was a cafe but it was close to dinner time so the cafe was shutting down. There was no clear menu for the cafe either. We tried to order drinks but were told we have to go to the bar to order drinks. But we weren't allowed into the area where the bar was because we didn't have a reservation. 3) we decided to see what the reservation setup looked like online. Maybe something was open in an hr. No. Something was open immediately. And not just one table. Plenty of tables! Why didn't the hostess say this? We made the online reservation for 10 minutes later and then walked back up to the hostess stand. But she looked at us with an attitude, spoke to someone else and that someone else was the one who seated us. I'm sorry did we offend you in someway? We just wanted to grab dinner in this whimsy place! 3) maybe this has changed - but when I went the menu said there were vegan options, and there was literally 1 option. I have a dairy allergy so I order vegan when I'm out to be safe. Sometimes I'll add some chicken or steak depending on the dish. This time I asked for steak. Bot only were the small cuts of steak mostly fat but it was pretty pricey! 4) our waiter was sweet so that was nice! Overall it was NOT a good experience. This was a couple months ago and the place was still pretty new so maybe they've made adjustments since then. I hope so. First time checking out this beautiful building! Major turn off when we were asked if we had a reservation? A reservation to drink coffee? That or we could wait an hour for the bar to open. I usually come here for tea while I read my book. The tea is great and the ambiance is off the charts! Fabulous staff, delightful and on point. I came here yesterday for dinner. The spouse said his burger was good and the fries great. I had a meal of sides, which were all delicious but tiny and expensive. Step inside the charming yet mystical allure of the Witch's Cottage and it's as if Sabrina Spellman and Hermione Granger had conjured up a love child. From the front door to the back dining area, every corner of this establishment has been decorated as an homage to witchcraftery. And I totally loved it! As did my little warlock with whom I enjoyed an afternoon tea & cake in the main hall. Hands down, the decor is completely bewitching and no detail was spared. I think they managed to incorporate every little witchy joke, wink, and enchantment into the walls, menu, and themed areas. We sat ourselves down in the main sitting area near the front and enjoyed our comfy seats long enough to play a few rounds of Uno (because we forgot our Tarot cards at home ;) And it was a perfect way to escape being burned by the scorching sun and the ghastly afternoon July heat. Located in the middle of the NoHo Arts District, the walls felt familiar to me in another life. I had been here many times before its current transformation, back when it was called the Federal Bar. The building itself was built in 1926 so it's officially 100 years old now, but Witch's Cottage has only been open for a mere four and a half months. It was originally designed by the father-and-son architects, John and Donald Parkinson. The upstairs area now hosts Sound Baths, whereas it once played live music to a hipster crowd brought to us by the Knitting Factory. We ordered the Jamaica iced-tea, which is made in-house, a Mexican Coke (trapped in a cutesy bottle), and a slice of devilishly decadent chocolate cake, adorned with a crown of edible flowers. The cake was very dense and super chocolatey and the Jamaica ice tea added a nice balance since it was not very sweet. Some of the teas are specially handcrafted in-house so that's pretty unique. The prices are on the moderate side, but you can order a pot of tea with some of their fresh baked goods and take all in the whimsical details. I dare say, even be entranced by the details and let the afternoon slip away. Just note: There's an addt'l 3% Kitchen Appreciation fee on every bill that goes towards staff bennies. More like 3.5. I used to go here a lot when this building was Federal Bar. I will say, I "liked what they've done with the place" - it's all very instagramable, witchy, gothy, mermaid, steam punk. You could have a ton of photo apps in here. Went here because it was a friend's birthday, and since it was kind of early for dinner for me, I just got a drink, a Blood Orange Margarita. It was alright, maybe I have very high standards for cocktails, especially when they are $18+...I didn't really try the food, had a couple of bites of friends spinach dip, and it was very spinachy. On Saturday morning, July 4th, I surprised my wife and drove 44 miles so we could experience it for ourselves and it was absolutely worth the trip. My wife ordered the Vanilla Latte, and I went with the Mocha Latte. Without exaggeration, these were the two best coffee drinks we've ever had. While waiting for breakfast, we decided to try one of their pastries and ordered the Walnut Coffee Cake. Every single bite was packed with flavor, unlike so many coffee cakes where all the goodness is only on top! For breakfast, we both ordered the Bacon Chive Quiche, and it was literally out of this world. From the incredibly inviting atmosphere to the genuinely kind staff and the fresh, high quality food, everything about our visit exceeded expectations. One of a kind, whimsical, witchy! The decor is pretty interesting, especially the back room, which really brings those fairy witchy elements to life. We stopped by for a quick bite and happened to see a magical celebration. Whether it was a birthday or a little engagement dinner, it made my experience so much better, especially since the group was fully immersed in the theme with their outfits and fairy headpieces. This was my first time at The Witch's Cottage and the coffee was nothing out of the ordinary for a theme inspired coffee shop. As far as service goes, the staff could use better training in customer interactions. For example, patience for first time patrons (facial expressions say a lot from the cashier and lack of eye contact / acknowledgment from the barista handing the drinks). As this coffee shop is suppose to be known for vibes and inclusivity; it felt very unwelcoming which is quite the opposite. When poking my head around the corner to get a peek of their bar / restaurant area known for its intricate and decorative unique quality; I was met with a stern, "we're closed." When the proper response from a business would be, "how can I help you?" Fantastic concept for a coffee shop but a missed opportunity. Maybe better with improvements? read more

I've been here twice, once on a weekend right after they opened, and once on a weeknight recently. They recently changed the menu. I think I liked their original ideas for the menu better, but the food tastes better now. The ambiance is AWESOME. The bar has lots of creative choices, including 2 ciders. Service was great. Last night I signed up for the sound bath event taking place on the 2nd floor of the Witches Cottage and it was such an amazing experience. The side door where it says Theatre is the enterance and it opens at exactly 6p to let us in. Upstairs is so beautiful and whimsical I really think I prefer it to the downstairs! There was incense that smelled light and amazing with really pretty energy in the air. I loved the reading at the beginning, but I had so much fun when we did some body movements to loosen up and move our energy, I found myself smiling and going all in with the movements! After that we all laid down on our mats to have the sound bath and I was so enthralled by some of the instruments that make the sound, my favorite was the rain stick I can't stop thinking about it. I really recommend this event, I felt so light, airy, and free afterwards!! They do the Monday once a month and then they do I think a Friday once a month, on the Friday they have scones and soundbath. I will definitely be coming back! read more

My hubby and I had a late dinner date, and from the moment we walked in, everyone was professional, welcoming, and incredibly kind. They served us dinner even though we arrived just before the kitchen was closing. The attention to detail throughout the entire space was breathtaking. From the bakery to the restaurant and the second-floor bar area, the mystical and magical décor made it feel like stepping into a whimsical art gallery. Bewitching folks inward from the corner of Lankershim Blvd/Weddington Street with an open door Tuesday through Sunday from 7AM to 10PM Clever baked goods, and hot or iced beverages to perk up any day. Well thought out menus for lunch and later, directly from the cauldron. Vegetarian, Vegan and Gluten Free options are very visible, like the Pasta Salad... of Many Comforts, Dwarven Cindered Grilled Chz (dairy free option available), Halfing Potato Wedges, and other Shareables, Soup, Salads and/or Entrees. Magical in all the senses with great weekly events such as Sound Baths and Scones on Fridays from 10am to 11am, upstairs at the Elven Forest Space. Came back and finally got to try some of their items from the café. The jasmine tea cake with orange marmalade was quite delicious. Not too sweet and perfect with coffee. See ya when you are 21:) The front lounge is a coffee bar with a pretty nice size room to sit, chat, cast spells or do a little work. The drinks here are simple but tasty and the bakery has gluten free and vegan options. During the day you are allowed to venture back to the restaurant area to enjoy your coffee as well. Once the bewitching hour begins the restaurant is open for dinner and the coffee bar is only in the front lounge. Get ready for one of their "specialty witches cocktails." The bartenders here are super friendly and shake a good drink! Both food/drink menus are cleverly named. Try one for fun! Only open for a few months and I am blown away by the details...There isn't one square inch that hasn't been carefully thought out and decorated to match the spirit of the theme here. This "white witch" could go on and on but I suggest you check it out yourself. Walk-ins are welcome but you may have to wait a bit. It was very spacious, with plenty of tables. There were ten in our group. Some sat at a high-top table with bar stools and the others at a coffee table with a couch and chairs. Tempting hand-crafted cocktails were awaiting our arrival. Choose from martinis, to Full-Moon Sangria, Hex Breaker (rum), Serpent's Kiss (tequila), or the Final Spell (smokey drink)... to name a few. I went with the Shadow Work Sour (bourbon, lemon, rosemary syrup, egg white foam and activated charcoal), definitely worth a try. My friend had the Green Witch (vodka, cucumber, lime, elderflower and rosemay syrup). We also indulged in Deviled Dragon's Eggs $12, which were "heavenly" with a little mustard, dill and mayo. We shared the Persephone's Cheese Plate ($22) with three cheeses, sourdough toast, grapes and jam. Followed by Halfing Tater Wedges (seasoned with garlic aioli, vegan parmesan and parsley). This is a safe place. And comfort. You come here for the drinks first. Then the atmosphere. And the food... if you have to. It's not an escape room. It's just drinking in a medieval garden, which honestly is enough. You don't just walk in and head to the bar either -- everything is controlled, paced, and guided in a way that actually makes it feel more intimate instead of chaotic, even when it's busy. There's clearly a bigger vision here. You can feel it building. Especially with the DnD elements -- once that area opens up more, this place is going to level up for that crowd. The world just needs more DMs. It would benefit from something like an LFG system, similar to Destroyer in Eagle Rock, to help people connect and actually use the space for what it's leaning toward. If you end up in Teague's section, you'll get more of the theme from the staff, which makes a difference. Also -- huge bonus -- it's very close to the Red Line, so you can just take the train there and not worry about driving if you're drinking. That alone makes it way more accessible. Came here for a lil pick me up with a couple of yelp friends! I got the cold brew coffee- it was smooth and delish! One friend got the strawberry chocolate brownie and a tea - she enjoyed it. And my other friend got another pastry and latte - also enjoyed it. The space is super large and very cute! Love the themes and the staff was super friendly. The bathroom was clean, as was the whole location. There is street parking, metered street parking, and they have a lot. Beautiful decor and artwork all around. There were 2 large rooms, one was a cafe and the other was a restaurant and bar style. We only got stuff on the cafe side today and everything was amazing. The banana cake was so flavorful and sweet, the rosemary cookie was no lie one of the best and unique cookies I've ever had. We peeked at the menu for lunch and dinner and everything looked amazing. Longtime local. Big lover of community‑oriented spaces. I wanted this to be a solid place. I followed The Witch's Cottage from the moment I saw the handwritten cardboard sign in the window. Very "cozy regulars vibe," very promising. Turns out...not so much. Right off the bat, the marketing was confusing. Opening dates teased, then ignored. Instagram ads nonstop asking locals to "invest" (with no explanation of ROI), while calling it a third space. In this economy? In this neighborhood? Color me skeptical--but I still showed up hopeful. Making a reservation required a $25 credit card hold (calm down, this is NoHo), and parking was $15 per car. So you're already $40 down before stepping inside. The space itself is cute and fairy‑themed, but the iconic copper bar was stripped out (a crime, IMO). The host was shockingly rude, despite us having a paid reservation. The server was so kind but incredibly slow. There was also live music we weren't warned about that was so loud we were screaming at each other, followed by awkward silence between sets. Felt like we were the beta testers for their sound system. Now...the food. I have never been more angry to pay for food in my life. - Deviled eggs so overcooked they were basically rubber balls. - Potato wedges ($15) burnt to hell on the outside and raw in the middle. I used to say "you can't mess up a potato"--I was wrong. - Grilled cheese sampler ($33), delivered by an owner, with scorched bread on one side, raw bread on the other, unmelted cheese, and giant chunks of raw onion. This plate should not have left the kitchen. Drinks showed up after the food, nearly an hour later. Only 1 of 4 cocktails was drinkable. The rest tasted like cleaning solution and went untouched. Total bill: $180 (before tip) for three appetizer‑style dishes and four drinks (not including parking or the CC hold). Girl math says that's $180 for one drink. The most puzzling part of The Witch's Cottage is calling this a "third space." A third space implies you can exist without spending an arm and a leg. This place requires reservations fees, pricey parking, and high menu prices. Slapping "witchy" branding on late‑stage capitalism doesn't make it community‑focused. Honestly, you're better off grabbing potato wedges from Alley Burger, a $10 drink at Contiki, or street tacos nearby--better food, better vibes, no hearing loss. I wanted this to work. It didn't. The Witches Cottage in North Hollywood is an enchanting and magical addition to the LA witchy scene. Reimagining the space that used to be the Federal Bar, they've transformed it into a stunning fantasy-themed café and restaurant. The decor is easily the highlight--think cottage gothic aesthetics, rich oil paintings, and lush florals everywhere you look. The menu features pastries, quiches, and a variety of coffee options with clever, witch-inspired names. My friend and I shared a slice of the broccoli and cheese quiche, which unfortunately fell short; it was a bit dry and felt overpriced for such a small portion. I also tried The Wicked Witch drink, which was okay, but ultimately lacked a punch of flavor. The real selling point here is the incredible atmosphere. It's a visual dream and would be a fantastic backdrop for a themed event or a creative photoshoot. Had an absolutely wonderful experience here. They did an amazing job with the interior of the place and it felt super magical. One thing that stood out the most was the incredible customer service. I don't think I've ever had better customer service at a place in Los Angeles than this place. I came with my family and my one-year-old nephew and they were so patient and kind with us and that alone makes me wanna go back. I think the selection on the menu is a little bit bizarre, but the food was pretty decent. I also think it would be nice to have a more clear explanation on their website that they close for dinner after the coffee shop. Other than that, you're gonna see me here again! read more

A few years ago, a friend and I had a great time at the Cauldron witch-themed bar near Knott's Berry Farm. I was really excited to find a similar themed bar closer to home in NoHo. There is a parking lot behind the place and some street parking, although the Arts District area can be crowded. The old building is very charming from the outside with bright purple doors. I had not read much about the place beforehand, but really enjoy themed locations so was mainly interested in the decor. Upon entry I was interested to find there is a cafe up front, a restaurant and a bar upstairs. Each is decorated in theme, but slightly different vibes. They really created an enchanting vibe there with many people dressed in theme (including me). I was interested in the restaurant but my friend had already ordered some food at the cafe so I decided to start with dessert and try the banana cake. It's a personal taste thing, but I don't like super cloying and sweet cakes. This cake slice was gorgeous but for me it had way too much frosting that was way too sweet. I could not taste much banana in it. My fault for starting with dessert when I was hungry. We tried to check with the restaurant to see if they had any openings. There was nobody at the front podium for quite some time so we asked the cafe staff if we can go back to ask. After asking, we headed back. There was another staff member there who said he thought it was full but they also had a bar with small bites. I stood at the threshold of the room (not a step inside) and took a few quick photos, making sure not to disturb diners. Next thing I know the hostess showed up and with a bit of attitude told me I was not allowed back there and could not walk around on my own. She repeated this twice. This is the first time I saw her during the visit and no other staff indicated this. I found the experience off putting. I would have given another star if this experience did not occur. There are ways to politely tell a paying customer they have to be accompanied by staff in the other rooms - but diplomacy was not her strength. And there was no signage indicating the process up front. After we were done with the cafe, I asked one of the more polite staff members if we can go to the bar. She brought us back to the hostess who walked us up there. I still would have been grumpy but the bar staff had great suggestions and were delightful. The bartender recommended an apple brandy drink that I would not have ordered, but enjoyed. My friend ordered a mocktail and there were a good amount of choices. The bar is so spacious with many comfy chairs and couches to lounge in. They were playing Hocus Pocus (probably on loop) which was funny. I did not end up eating there that night. I would be willing to try the restaurant and bar again, and hope by then the service issues are ironed out. read more

I took my teenage daughter for the cafe and vendors at the bar for an LGBTQ event. It was adorable! The place makes you feel like you're part of a fairy tale. We tried the snacks at the cafe and were so happy they had Gluten free options since my daughter has to be GF. Everything tasted great! Everyone that worked there were so friendly as well. We had a few mocktails at the bar that were super tasty as well! We will be coming back for dinner at the restaurant soon! We came for dinner with a large group of friends. The atmosphere is fantastical, with a midsommar chandelier, fireplace, various witchy themes in different sections, it's honestly so cool. We didn't get coffee (aside from their witches brew espresso martini with their house made liquor which was very good) My favorite cocktail was the first one the waitress recommended and the one I was eyeballing, the "Protection spell"- it tastes exactly like a Smokey woody spicy haunted house. The waitress also recommended the grilled cheese, I got the Bree grilled cheese along with their tomato soup and fries. The fries are amazing, the sandwich is next level, way above and beyond a standard grilled cheese, great bread and cheese and I got the cherry jam with mine. The tomato soup is solid but didn't stand out too much to me or my wife. I think next time I go I would try their stew or their chimichuri steak.
