Wow this place was so disappointing. To start, we didn't see anyone for over ten minutes, but I cannot blame the waitress because I think she was the only one?? She was nice though. We got quac and chips for $9 and legitimately less than half a cup of quac... I predicted that would happen but hoped it would not. The shrimp tacos were also super shrimpy and we got 2 for $8 which is fine, but the restaurant does NOT serve rice or beans!! So we were left hungry and craving McDonald's fries. What a fun little find in the Loop! Food was good and the portions are healthy. Food prices were a bit lower than I expected for the location, but they really make it up in the cocktail pricing. Has a nice patio, although it is right on the sidewalk that can get a little sketchy (read, smell like pee). It is loud in the restaurant, which just solidifies that I am a grumpy old lady. I was really excited to try this place because it's right across the street from my job but I unfortunately could not have have been more disappointed in the food, service, or dining experience overall I had. First, as others have said, this place is pricey. You'll pay between $6 - $10 for two tacos whereas you can get three or four at other establishments for that price. Add to that the sad fact that the tacos are small and not particularly flavorful. There is really not much to them. Second, I went on a Saturday afternoon around 5pm. It was not at all busy and yet service was very slow. We were seated at a table that was wet (not sure from what) but the hostess placed our menus right on top of the wet table anyway and walked away. When the server finally came, she spilled a glass of water on our table and while I understand that mistakes happen, she only wiped a part of the table dry. I had to ask her to bring another rag to dry the entire table and she reluctantly obliged. Finally, since we were still pretty starved after eating our tiny tacos, we ordered chips and guac for $8. Don't actually expect to get chips though. You'll get 3 crispy tortillas that you have to break apart yourself and a dollop of guac that tastes pretty much like what they sell at Whole Foods. As for the drinks - I ordered a margarita and my friend ordered a sangria - they were actually strong and good but not at all enough to redeem the other shortcomings. Don't do it, folks. Just don't. Plenty of other taco places downtown where you can spend less money, enjoy better food, and have much better service. read more

I stopped in Broken English a couple times after work as the location is convenient. The food is pretty good but pricey in my opinion. I like that they use corn tortillas, and the Carne Asada tacos were good. The crunch of the onion, the juicy grilled steak, the cilantro, and the lime squeezed over the top was delicious. I also love a good marg and can tell you that they make them decently strong here and are good. The vibe inside is pretty cool - I like the decor. There are a bunch of tables inside so I'd say it's a good place for groups as long as you make a reservation ahead of time. The music can get loud inside so if you want to talk I'd recommend sitting outside. I highly recommend Taco Tuesday for their $2 special. MAKE SURE YOU ASK WHICH TACOS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS. There are a few that aren't - you don't want to be surprised when you get your bill. Also make sure you order only classic margs if you're going for the happy hour special (4-7PM), as if you order "flavored" margs they tack on an extra $3 per. The thing that I'm not impressed with this location is the service. The last time I came on a Tuesday there were only a few tables seated; we came before the after-work rush. We waited at the table for a while, but it wasn't until we started to get up and head to the bar that someone came over to give us a menu. Once our order was taken, our servers switched and then we couldn't find our server whenever we were looking for her. We always had to hunt her down if we needed anything. I left feeling very 'meh' about the service we received. I like the vibe in Broken English and the food is good, but honestly you can get better service elsewhere. read more

We happened upon this place and were so pleasantly surprised. The brisket taco was amazing! The pickled veggies on it were the perfect compliment to the flavor - WOW. My carne asada was tied with the brisket for my favorite taco on the menu - not chewy, perfect flavor - really really good. The queso was so good - why? It's just queso? The interior and lay out of the restaurant is cute. They have pretty lights and signs. We went for brunch. In terms of the food, we ordered the chilaquiles, el califa, and the chorizó and egg tacos. Everything was extremely salty. The chilaquiles were the worst. Every bite tasted as if you were scooping salt with the food. We had bottomless mimosas and the servers were quick to serve us. The mimosas did not taste watered down so that was appreciated. It wasn't packed so not sure how well the service is when it is packed. Overall, I would not recommend this place to eat. I really wanted to enjoy my experience at the taco bar. The food was good, but the service was terrible. First, of the five of us, only three got water. The other two didn't get water until we asked the server twice. Additionally, there were no people refilling our water. Second, three of us got our food at the same time but the other two did not get food for at least 5 to 10 minutes more and this after we had to ask the waiter about that food. Third, we ordered more food, and they forgot about our order until we asked them again where the meal was. The server was not apologetic, nor did we get any discounts. We came here for Saturday brunch and had a great time. Bottomless mimosas pay for themselves in 3 drinks and staff were great about refilling them quickly. Our waiter, Jessie, was awesome and helped us pick food (we were being VERY indecisive). Music was a little loud when we got there but it was early and once the place filled up, you barely noticed. This is a cool, energetic taco joint in the middle of the loop. While the rest of downtown may be dead at night, this place is about as loud as a restaurant gets. When I wasn't stuffing my face full of tacos, I was shouting to my friend across the table. As far as food goes, it's not exactly cheap. We got the 6 taco special for $20, which lets you mix and match any flavors you want. We did 2 pork belly, 2 al pastor pollo, 1 swordfish, and 1 shrimp. All of them were quite good, but definitely not worth over $3 a piece. I also ordered the Mexican shrimp cocktail appetizer, which was some combination of guacamole and cocktail sauce, with little shrimps just thrown right in, kind of like some kind of strange soup. It was spicy and quite tasty, but at something like $13 I wouldn't order it again. This is one of the few good Mexican restaurants in the area. The food is a nice mix of authentic and creative. The focus here is on soft tacos and guacamoles and drinks. There's a nice vibe from all the funky decorations, and an extensive bar for single businessmen at lunch time. The Achiote Hummus was an interesting low-cal appetizer. The achiote chili flavor dominated, and the jicama was better for dipping than the cucumber. Tacos Al Pastor De Pollo were authentically served on double corn tortillas. I've had pastor pork, but never chicken, and it was good, but not as rich as some. The traditional pieces of pineapple added a nice sweetness. I would have liked to have tried more tacos, but each order includes two, and you can't mix and match, which seems like an arbitrary restriction. The guy next to me wanted to buy three tacos, and you can't do that, either. I think they're shooting themselves in the foot with that arbitrary rule. The highlight of my meal was actually the chips and salsa (sold as an appetizer). The chips were obviously home-made, and had puffed up like pomme souffle to give them a delicate yet somehow hearty crunch. The fact that they were slightly greasy could be forgiven, because of that great consistency. The accompanying green sauce had a slight hint of sweetness, and the red sauce had a strong ginger note that made it quite exotic. I couldn't stop eating these! The margarita was good if not remarkable. Service was friendly and attentive. The sidewalk dining is a bit too sunny at lunchtime, but might be nice in the evening. read more

The chips tasted house made and were really crunchy and the guac was so fresh and flavorful. I only wish I had more of it! The carnitas tacos were pretty good too. I've had better tacos and wish it came with more toppings but it was still enjoyable. The margarita was disappointing though... I was intrigued by the fact that they have them on tap but it was extremely watered down as you can see in the photo of it. Stopped in here for pre-pizza apps and drinks. During me awesome food adventure in Chi-Town (all for my nephews college graduation) of course. This is a cool place just to try Mexican food. Their margaritas were a little tooo limey for me or maybe it was the sparkliness of the sizzle in my mouth but I was left with mixed feelings after having 1 as did the rest of my party. I guess we're just used to the alcohol taste and anything out of the ordinary is too far. However the staff was great, friendly and made us Miamians feel welcomed. We attended this place during our conference in Chicago and the front Hostess was extremely rude and unwelcoming. We went once with a group of four and turned us away because the kitchen was closing we asked for recommendations and didn't provide anything and just said there is a pub at the corner. Two days later we decided to give it another try, we went with a group of 9 and without even looking at her computer she said we don't have any tables for you, she wasn't friendly, she wasn't sorry or apologetic. we asked to be split, she said no there are reservations and then asked for the bar and she said "yes it's an open bar but you all won't fit". There is plenty of pleasure and excitement at Broken English Taco Pub in the Loop. The atmosphere is fun with great unique character. Colorful decor with colorful personalities of the staff. Marina was attentive and very nice. The chips are on point, I'm picky but they are thick and well cooked. The different salsas were delicious, the ginger salsa was unexpectedly tasty. Carne Asada, Shrimp and Brisket tacos were filled with meat and topped with the right amount of onions and cilantro. If you need a solid drink, get the Margarita pitcher and add mezcal for a tasty smoky flavor and don't forget to get Tajín on the rim. Stick to the nachos as a better option as they are more filling. Quite shocked when I go inside and they're playing 80's rock at a Mexican restaurant? One of my coworkers took me here after work after hearing I was experiencing a breakup (isn't he great?) and I was automatically intrigued by this "drink on fire". First of all, the ambiance and design of this place is incredible; so colorful and energetic. We didn't order any food - just two drinks: the pyro passion and rosemary's baby. I've never tried a drink that was on fire, so of course, I was ready for the Instagram pictures.
