We always ate at the same place and decided to experiment with breakfast. The food wasn't tasty and the presentation was poor. The included muffin, once washed, was simply placed on a plate with an omelet and potatoes. The microwave muffin, so misshapen, was a shame to look at, let alone eat! The butter was the cheapest, runny, and apparently prepared the night before. If you're positioning yourself as a restaurant with decent breakfasts, you need to live up to it! While I was sad that they took out Panera...this was the upgrade it needed. We were promptly seated, was greeted by our enthusiastic waitress, ordered, and the food literally came out in 10 minutes. I ordered the country skillet (amazing) and my friend ordered the Nutella crepes (to die for). The remodel of this place was done so nice, I couldn't believe it. Listen, I'm writing this review at 8 pm when I came in earlier at 8 am today. I just had to write this. Today I came in and I ordered an avocado toast to go the lady that helped me. I wish I got her name. She was a blonde waitress and she was alert and attentive and had a military women energy to her where she took her job very seriously which is so rare nowadays. She immediately got my order without any hesitation. And when my order came someone else handed it to me but then I went back in and I needed hot sauce. And she helped me out by pouring the hot sauce generously on my food, which is again very rare. She cares and she's not just putting a small little dab You can tell she really has a heart of gold. She's like a military woman with a voice that's heard but a ton of love in her heart. She had an impact on me where I'm writing this review right now at 8 PM now whoever that is in charge of the restaurant. In my opinion I think you should promote this woman into a higher management And why should you listen to me while I am a high paid employee making high six-figure income at a very important company so I think you should take my word because I would never write a review like this and I never have. Even if you have to make her assistant manager and let her work her way up to higher management I think that should be done with a military like woman like herself. Family members came here for breakfast many times, finally my son and I tagged along today. We both ordered chicken fried steak, eggs and pancake. The gravy is little too sweet and too rich, it makes little hard to finish the plate. Hash brown is good and fries are too salty. Pancakes are ok. Based on what I ordered today, I gave 3&1/2 stars. The reason is 4 stars because extra half star comes from clearness, friendly service and family like this place. On our first visit to Broken Yolk Cafe, we started out with the BYC Bloody Mary. Served with a slice of bacon, it's a very tasty Bloody Mary but there was a unique flavor in it that I did not recognize. I think that the "vodka spirit" is not actually vodka but rather a wine-based spirit that simulates the vodka flavor profile and I think wine was the flavor I was picking up. Their Bloody Mary mix and Tajin rim is banging! It's worth ordering as long as you don't feel like it must be real vodka. I enjoy a good corned beef hash, so I wanted to try the Hash Skillet. Unfortunately, the server said that they don't prepare the hash fresh on the premises. I'm not a fan of canned hash, so I decided to order the Ranchero Skillet instead. It was very flavorful, although I would have liked the chorizo more prominent. I ordered the eggs over-medium but they were slightly overcooked (i.e. most of the yolk was not runny). Nonetheless, it was a satisfying dish overall. My companion ordered the Chilaquiles Bowl with the green sauce. The eggs on her bowl were cooked perfectly over-medium. She said that salsa was very good and, as a Mexican, she knows how an authentic salsa verde should taste. They also managed to find that balance where the chips are well smothered with the salsa but still have some crispiness. This plate is definitely worth ordering. For my fellow wheelchair users, this restaurant is very accessible. There's plenty of room to maneuver between the tables through the room. Getting my lap fully under a table in my electric wheelchair is challenging in most tables I encounter at restaurants but there were a few of them at this cafe that would accommodate my wheelchair. One of the tables is designed and designated for the use of a person in a wheelchair. This is the one that we used and it was very open for maneuvering my chair around and under it. Our server was Susie and she was friendly and attentive. The portions on both plates were generous, so we left full and satisfied. I'll definitely return because there are a few other dishes that caught my eye. read more

This new Broken Yolk location is on point. Hostess greeted me with a friendly hello and a smile. Walking to my seat all the servers smiled too. Jelly the bartender and server welcomed me promptly. Within a minute Jelly took my order, classic eggs benedict coffee and ice water. Five minutes later the order was presented, plated neatly and hot. I noticed how Kelly was very attentive to all the customers at the bar. Everyone at the bar was content. She is very positive and genuinely listens to some of the customers stories...she has regulars. It's nice to find a local establishment, sit and hear the stories of strangers whether you agree with them or not, it's good to just stop, live in the moment and listen. You never know what you may learn. It's what you learn after knowing it all that counts. She is good at that. All the staff here is on top of their game. That's a sign of good management. Even had a laugh with Miguel another server who said Kelly's name is Miguel when I said I would post a good review on Yelp. So ask for Kelly when you are seated here, AKA Miguel. LOL! An overdue review! This is our go-to breakfast spot for my parents. Mom loves the Crunchy French Toast and Dad loves anything else he has here. My favorite, which is the most important to me, is the incredible service. My parents are elderly and it is so important to me that people are especially kind to and patient with them. Friendly faces, wonderful service. Nice atmosphere, we had bar seating which was cozy for our wait. Eggs Benedict is a dish that is meant to have a runny, very-slightly-acidic poached egg, whose yolk breaks upon the first cut and runs with the hollandaise sauce together over a crisp English muffin and well-seasoned protein. As creative as this restaurant tries to get with this template, I'm afraid the mark was completely missed. The Benedict's were served by default with "medium poached" eggs--may as well have been boiled. No yolk was broken, as the egg was absolutely hammered in boiling water. This is not normal by any brunch restaurant's standards (that I know of), and the irony doesn't elude me considering the name "Broken Yolk Cafe". Shredded beef was way underseasoned, sope was soggy and bland. If you're going to replace the toasty English muffin, I would argue that the carbohydrate absolutely cannot be a soggy one. Golden state Benedict's grilled tomato was nicely seasoned, added a good touch of acidity. Presentation was fine. I would say this was the closest to restaurant quality, but not a restaurant I'd recommend to anyone or return to myself. The other dish we ordered was a sun-up breakfast sandwich. Incredibly over-salted bread, grilled with butter and an underseasoned egg sandwiched with microwave bacon and American cheese--which works if you're looking for a salty, heavy, 4-ingredient breakfast. I've been to many places that are far busier, yet the customer service is amazing. Also, avoid coming here with your wife, girlfriend, or daughters. I believe Broken Yolk is for everyone. It is a very nice breakfast place which has many options of food and drinks. The food is fantastic, and one of my favorite breakfast places. The crepe was creamy and delicious, the eggs were very nice, especially with the pepper. The waffle was scrumptious, golden, and very good with the sauce. I liked the sausages, they were juicy, and it was satisfying in every bite. The drinks were beyond good, and I recommend the smoothies, as they were good. Now, the service was extremely surprising and successful. With all the people there, the service was pretty fast. The staff were nice and respectful. I had no problem with the waiter we had. We came in on the morning of MLK day. There were two staff at the front desk, one was holding a tablet. One staff member greeted us and asked if we wanted inside or outside. We said inside, and she said we had to wait for an inside table to open up. So we sat down and waited on the bench in the waiting area. Two minutes later another party walked in. Same thing happened and they sat down on the bench. The staff who greeted us took off to bring food for diners. Another tall woman replaced her. When a table opened up, the tall staff member (who I later was told to be the host) just skipped us and took the other party. Afterwards I asked her why we were skipped. She rudely blamed me for not speaking with her when we came in (she was not at the front desk). If her duty was a host, she should be at the front desk greeting guests. If she had to go somewhere momentarily she should figure out the waiting order after coming back and not just assume things. The staff holding the tablet was there this whole time. The host could have asked for an update from her, or asked the waiting guests directly, instead of blaming customers. I suggested that she should make a wait list, and if she didn't, just ask waiting guests who came in first. She then snapped at me, do you want to talk to a manager? I said sure. The manager came out, got a brief from the host, then came talk to me. She was unapologetic and blamed it on the situation, us talking with a server instead of the host. No acceptance of responsibility here. She was the manager, she should know, the host, not the server, should greet guests, and things should be better organized. We just couldn't talk common sense with her, nor wanted to put up with being talked down to, so we left. I have dined at Broke Yolk many times. It's a very busy place on Sunday morning. The Yelp site says "join the waitlist" and you should do that but it's not accurate..it gives a countdown and for us it was 15-20 minutes more after it said we're ready to seat you. The first impression as we walked in...very NOISY...the acoustics are very bad and when the restaurant is full and they're rearranging chairs to accommodate varying party sizes, the noise is deafening...for older folks of course who admittedly can't hear that well anyway. Staff are very friendly and helpful and they seem to have plenty of servers to help all the tables...much appreciated and this makes it much more pleasant...even the servers not waiting on your table are asking if they can help...very well trained servers and service is excellent. Reception and hosting was well-staffed and very helpful. Everyone works very quickly and handles the stress very well. I ordered the chicken-friend steak and eggs. My wife ordered some eggs and sausage. The chicken-fried steak was tasteless and very poor quality of beef. The eggs were also a very poor quality of eggs....their competitors use Vital Farms eggs which are much superior. The gravy tasted like canned gravy - it was not brown gravy which uses the juices from cooking the meat ("country gravy"), but rather a very light colored gravy that was probably milk and flour with chopped meat (not sure what kind) but definitely not a very tasty gravy. The potatoes were poorly cooked not hash browns but rather more like scalloped and unevenly cooked. The sourdough toast was loaf style and well buttered but somewhat tasteless. My wife liked the sausage alot and other than poor quality eggs, her poached eggs were well prepared. Her hash browns were well-prepared and good tasting. The is plenty of competition now in the Orange County breakfast space. The advantages for this location is a very health-conscious menu, some menu items like steak and eggs that don't appear elsewhere, excellent services while others offer much higher quality eggs and meats. Some competitors list their sourcing for meat and eggs which is highly advanced but appropriate for restaurants charging $22-24 per breakfast. We declined ordering a Cappuccino because it was not offered with cream or half-and-half "breve". read more

Entering this branch, I really liked the fresh ambience as well as the kind and attentive service. I was able to try their spicy vegan bowl on their health menu in order to fit my dietary needs. We walked in before 10:00am, and the place was maybe half full (I'm assuming it's more crowded now that the newness wore off)? The hostess was busy so we waited about 5 minutes. There were 2 manager-looking people walking around, making sure the patrons were happy at their tables, and the male manager(?) was standing and saw us waiting, but looked away as he stood there so I thought that was weird. I get it...it's the first week of opening so possibly overwhelmed with everything. Hubs ordered the chicken-fried steak & eggs ($16.95) and I ordered the sweet trio ($16.45) and made it a combo (+$5.25). We both had coffee ($3.95ea). The trio was a slice of tiki toast, slice of crunchy French toast, and one cinna-cake. Yum!! I was glad that I made it a combo (2 eggs and choice of protein) since it was all sweet. Definitely a lot of food though, so I took the leftovers home (which my kid ate). The coffee was on the thin side. The chicken-fried steak was okay, we both thought the gravy needed something more. The food was terrible. We ordered two huevos rancheros plates. The tortillas tasted stale, the eggs were oddly steamed, the salsa was clearly from a can, and even the beans tasted off. Then the crepes arrived undercooked, like raw batter, so we couldn't eat anything on our plates.
