The food is ok when you finally get it. I understand they are busy so we used to go every once in a while bc we liked the turkey bacon eggs combo. Almost every time we had eaten here we had RUDE waiters/ waitresses! Almost every single time!?! Finally the last time we went there my waiter was so unbelievably rude and he even rolled his eyes at me when my husband got up to go to the restroom! I was shocked and very unhappy and I never like to complain but after he rolled his eyes at me I had it! I told the manager what had happened right in front of our waiter and the manager apologized but our waiter just stood there and didn't say a word. No apology or even an explication of why he was so annoyed. I am always nice to waiters BC I've been in customer service for 23 years it's hard working with the public BUT It's extremely important to make sure your customers are at least satisfied with their service bc this is your job! This waiter was absolutely ridiculous!! My husband who will never ever complain said he will NEVER give them business again. We paid for our meal the manager offered to give us a small discount which I accepted and gave us a coupon for 1 complementary meal. I took the coupon I gave it to my husband and told him I don't want this bc I will never go back and he said neither will I so he threw it in the trash. I come to this location often and I'm usually satisfied with my experience . But yesterday I met a friend for lunch around 1:45 pm (very slow). I was seated and waited quite a awhile to be greeted. It wasn't until after my friend had arrived 5 min later, Ben ;our server had greeted us. As the meal came, he checked on us once but never came back for refills . I looked across the way and saw he was doing his side work. But the thing that bothered me the most was , I had gotten up to refill me and my friends water with the pitcher he left on a table across from me. Really disappointing. Okay, this is my second visit with the family to this particular location in Oceanside/Carlsbad. My first visit, although was a few short weeks ago, consisted of a very rude waitress, but at least the food arrived on time and was warm. Maybe she needed a hug or something that day! Now fast forward to this day! If you are a restaurant takes reservations "please make sure" when people arrive "on time" at least make an effort to have a table prepared! We had to wait 20 minutes past our reservation time only to end up being seated outside. Now, you know your visit is going south when they jack up your reservations. So let me move on to the orders... Chrystal was our waitress (dismal to say the very least!) after asking what we are having as our breakfast she completely did not ask us "WHAT WE ARE DRINKING" -- Now I have to ask.. who goes to a resturant and the wait staff not ask "first" to take your drink order... UnSAT!!!! However, it did not end there. So, my son-in-law and I ordered the exact same dish. When the food started to arrive these is where the fun begin. He did not get his order and Chrystal did not even bother to come back to confirm that all the food as received and that we are okay(We were NOT okay!!! Seriously!?!?!?). My son-in-law was so pissed he told her not to even bother to find it or replace the order (personally I would have done the same thing, but I would have actually got up and left!!!) Now moving on to the next jacked up order... My son ordered the Old town burger and the cooks did not even complete the order!!! It was missing the main ingredients like the bacon, avocado, ranch and some other things. Really??!?!?!!! WOW!!! I have not had this BAD of service in my life!!! Oh and let me tell you about my nuked swamped looking flour tortillas! They were not eye pleasing, but at least they were quasi presentable! Again, another yuck!!! As for the rest of the family orders.. they did come out and I did not hear any bad comments. Now, maybe ... just maybe the only glimmer of hope was Grace (she maybe the head person there) seen as we were leaving the look of dissatisfaction on my face and asked if something happened. I told her that "I been to this place twice and both times this place was less then desirable!" I asked my children not to bring me to this place again!!! If we want to go to the Broken Yoke, at least take me to the one in San Marcos! At least the staff (wait that is) was friendlier and they DID GET a table top of 6 orders right the "FIRST TIME"! After mentioning this to her (Grace) she did give me a $25 meal comp card. Not sure if I will use it there, but I like to give business' a fair shake. I probably will not be going back there anytime soon, but I will not say that they are on the permanent chopping block. Yuck!! Grace did comp a meal for my next visit. What a great breakfast/ brunch find. Love this Location the best. The customer service and food is always on point. We went here recently and unbeknown to us at the time they were closing within the hour but were beyond accommodating! The service was never rushed, the waitress and wait staff were very very attentive and kind. The food was delish and hot from the kitchen. Ordered to the Cali Club and the hubby ordered the ham and egg omelette meal. Really enjoyed our meal and overall had a great experience here at this location. It was a hot day and my sister and I were indecisive about where to eat since we didn't want to leave our dog in the car. So we called Broken Yolk prior to arriving to see if they allowed pets on the patio. They did so we decided to come here. We were seated in a nice shady area and it was nearly empty. Only 2 other parties when we arrived, but they were wrapping it up when we arrived. We requested water...and then we just sat and waited...and waited. We even watched four other parties arrive to the now empty patio get seated, and receive their drink orders...and we still hadn't even received our water! What the heck man! After looking at the clock we realized we had been waiting for 20 freaking minutes and we STILL had not even received our water. Nobody even checked up on us to double check on us to see if we were even served. That was unacceptable. So...we left. Too bad since our host, Niko, was really nice. read more

I really want to love the broken yolk, but maybe I am too spoiled by the magnificent Beach Break Cafe. I have eaten twice at the La Costa location and once now in Fire Mountain area in Oside. The food itself is better than average- well the main thing you order is better than average. Today I really liked my omelette. I asked for it with cheese and no tomato. (I don't really dig cooked tomato). My server btw was not particularly friendly or on the ball. No one checked with me to see how my meal was and another server brought me the salsa that was supposed to come on top of the eggs. She said it was omitted because I asked for no tomato, which I sort of understand, but isn't that a question or discussion point from my server to me? Aside from the main omelette the side of hash browns was inedible. A greasy non-crispy blob of blah-ness. My coffee mug was empty for sometime until Anthony who was busing came and asked me if I wanted more. I only saw my other server again when he delivered the check. And a breakfast here with coffee will run you $15 before tip. In the other location the food took a long time to arrive and the service wasn't really all that friendly. I think I may be done with the Broken Yolk. I wish them well though. I hope they pop into Beach Break and really see how it's done. I used to come here about once a month, but alas no more. I always order the same thing: corn beef hash, over easy eggs, hash browns, sourdough toast and OJ. The only thing that is consistent is the toast and OJ. Sometimes my eggs are still raw and I've had to request for my corn beef hash and hash browns to be well done or else they too come out raw and undercooked. The other times, they will come out burnt. What has been the kicker lately is the awful service. The waitresses are awful and it seems the only ones working are the bus boys. We go out of our way to tip them directly because they are the only ones who will check on you, refill your drinks, bring extra napkins, etc. The waitresses seems to disappear after the order is taken and we don't see them again until we flag them down for a check. It's a bummer for me, BY is one of the last places to serve reall corn beef hash and not a country potato version. read more

My husband and I went to get breakfast last saturday. My order was a scrambled egg, an english muffin, fresh fruit and a pancake. Our food got to our table so quickly that I was surprised. My egg was cold so I told our waitress and she took my plate and 5 seconds later she had another plate with my scrambled egg. I think instead of doing quality food they are just trying to make as much money they can. How can you expected a place with the name of broken yolk to serve eggs like a buffet? Only restaurant I've never gotten a coffee refill at. We visited at 8am on Sunday, and were seated quickly. We then sat for 20 minutes without anyone even glancing at us, and had to literally snag a bus boy to order drinks. We insisted he take our order, too, as we have a toddler who was very hungry and we were worried we'd never get service if we waited. Our food came out quickly, then we were ignored again. Never got a coffee refill, never had a server come ask how we were doing. Several other tables near us had a similar problem. There were waiters standing around not doing anything, so we KNOW it wasn't an understaffing issue. We didn't even get the bill- we had to go up front for it. The food was pretty tasteless, and the eggs tasted like bottled eggs. We will not be back. read more

I recently ate breakfast at the Broken Yolk on Sunday (05 March) and sat at the breakfast bar/counter. It was extremely crowded so I was fascinated by Armando and his leadership skills. Armando was cool, calm, collected, efficient, professional and courteous to all those around him. When there was a lull in orders he would turn around and speak with the guests about their food, service, their day and top off their coffee. What a great guy!! Armando has incredible leadership skills and will go amazingly far in the restaurant business. I hope to be able to see Armando in action again when I go back. read more

You're better off going to Dennys. Service was slow, and the guy who poured the coffee spilled some on my husband and just walked off. The food was cold when it got to the table and it did not all come out at the same time. By the time I got my waffle my husband and kids where almost done. The server did not notice..maybe if she would check on the table every now and then she would see that, and see that everyone needed refills. I actually like this establishment and feel bad giving such a bad review for this location. I've gone to the one in PB and Gaslamp and had a very good experience at both locations; food was good and service was good. I think that because they've opened more restaurants that their quality of food and service have declined. My friends and I waited for almost 30 mins for our food. When it arrived we didn't have enough silverware and had to ask them for extras. We also ordered a bottle of mimosa and I thought it was odd that they gave us a bottle of champagne and a small cup of orange juice and empty glasses. (Is that how they usually serve it?) I ordered the chilaquiles, which I thought was really unappetizing. I only had a few bites and just left the rest. I was very disappointed especially since my meal cost almost $11. I don't think I will come back here anymore since there are way more other better breakfast/brunch places in San Diego. The first 2 times I came here it was overly crowded but I still had great and prompt service. The waiter was friendly and the food was decent. The last 3 times have encouraged me to never go here again. This location and the San Marcos location have the rudest severs I have ever met! They take their time greeting you and have no manners. I think my server was hungover or still drunk! She flirted with the table full of marines in front of our table and completely forgot to get us our check after asking twice! The manager at the oceanside location was no better! I asked for something the server forgot to bring out and he had her bring it to me so I got it about 5 minutes after I was done with my food! The food was cold and didn't taste good! This place is worse than Denny's and I hop! That's got to be a new low! The host was rude and of no help when I asked for a fork and napkins! Went for breakfast this morning, didn't see out waiter till 14 minutes after sitting down. He was quick and snappy. Simply said "what would you like to order". Then we never saw him till we had to ask for the bill. We saw him walking casually around the establishment tho which was unprofessional since all the other waiters/waitresses were busting their asses off. Alejandro ruined the broken yolk for us. No care for his customers and couldn't be bothered to make money for tips. The manager tried to rectify the situation by leaving comp cards for us but I doubt we will ever return. This spot has become my primary source of breakfast for many good reasons and I've hit it up 1-2 times per week ever since they first opened. First off the food remains consistently top-notch and, if anything, the only issue is that there's way too much of it! I often joke that I'd like to speak to a manager about the unreasonably excessive value I've received for the buck. A close second priority is the fact that the people are super cool and, as a counter dweller, that's particularly important to me. Jackie, Priscilla, Danica, and Thomas brighten my day, work very efficiently, and deserve kudos and raises immediately, management! As for food specifics I can highly recommend the Huevos Rancheros with scrambled eggs as long as I request it in its "old school" embodiment. Also the custom omelette has great potential and I prefer mine with black olives and water chestnuts (what restaurant anywhere offers stellar water chestnuts as an option?!). Fresh blueberry muffins and brilliantly brewed, unsweetened, black tea in a depth-charge-sized to go cup deserve some serious props. The place is clean and well run so I give them for stars. So get your yolk-break on and become a local like me. read more

I have to say the food is good but the service is a bit... yeah...needs work. I have always been a huge fan of the Broken Yolk, and have always had a wonderful dinning experience at this location. My recent visit really stood above and beyond the rest. We were greeted very warmly by the manager Jim, and seated promptly by his staff even though we showed up on a weekend at an extremely popular time. It was then that our waiter Armondo (I'm sure I'm spelling his name wrong and I apologize) really wowed us. I have an affinity for pineapple juice mimosas, and when I enquired if they had pineapple juice Armondo kindly informed me that they did not. I settled for the standard orange juice mimosa and thought no more of it. Little did I know that while my mimosa was being prepared and served, Armondo was prepping fresh squeezed pineapple juice in the back for me. It was one of the kindest and most surprising pineapple mimosas I have ever experienced. He then proceeded to continue providing his prompt, polite and friendly service throughout the remainder of the meal. People like Armondo are what make Broken Yolk such a wonderful place to visit. I hope to see him travel far within the company and in life. read more

Been here about 2 yrs ago and got a custom omlette, which was pretty good. This time decided to try the Machaca. Don't bother! I don't know how it's possibe given the basic ingrediaents, but it had NO FLAVOR! Even with double salsa - still no flavor. I will not make that mistake again, and given the other great places nearby, not sure I'll bother going here again. But, coffee was above average and waitstaff good.
