I got a chance to get a Chopped Cheese sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes on a hero roll. for breakfast and it was delicious. I paired it with a Snapple Fruit Punch. It definitely was the perfect combination to start the day. The service was great. It took only a few minutes to get my order. They have many menu options to choose from. It's a small restaurant so not much seating room but I was able sit outside at the little bench areas right outside. Will be back soon for another round! read more

Fire BEC on pumpernickel, the way they wrap up the cheese in the egg is like beautiful honestly. Bagel was nice and fluffy. Got a tropical smoothie too since I just finished a run, and I chose the Tropical Sunshine. It was pretty good and really fresh, although I did wish it was a bit sweeter, not in the sense of extra sugar but I feel the fruits themselves werent as sweet as normal but it still was a great pair to the sandwich. read more

We stopped by Brooklyn Bread cafe on a Wednesday in early September with my brother and his wife. We arrived slightly before 9 and they were quite busy. They have a large and varied menu, so you'll find something you like. All of our food was excellent. When you order, a breakfast bagel sandwich be prepared to tell them what kind of bagel you want it on. My wife had the breakfast bagel with egg and potato. It was so large, she ate half of it and brought the other half home. I had the breakfast burrito on a flour tortilla(there were 3 or 4 types of tortillas to choose from). Brooklyn bagel puts the peppers onions etc in an omelette (not scrambled eggs with a scoop of various other things added in as most places do). The then roll up that omelette with the cheese and salsa in your burrito. This make for makes each bite much the same. I liked it. They have a good coffee also. We ate outside in the shade on a beautiful morning watching people walk their dogs. A great experience! read more

Ok so being 100% honest it wasn't what I expected. It wasn't bad. Just not what I expected. I had a Reuben on ciabatta. It tasted more like a corned beef with Big Mac special sauce. Good but not a Reuben. The wife had some sort of southwestern chicken sandwich that tasted really good. For some reason it came up when I searched for bagels and we weren't too far of a walk away. It had been a long day and it hit the spot. It's a decent sandwich shop but you're better off hitting a deli if you want that NY experience. There's a very small bench area inside so incredibly limited seating. Outside there is seating and a few pigeons. Walking distance from ground zero and the 9/11 museum. I should have taken some food pics. The pigeons were more fun. read more

The holy grail of delicious bagels and sandwiches! Came here after reading other reviews and so glad we did. I had the bacon, egg and cheese on a garlic bagel and my friend ordered a chopped cheese sandwich is pretty much like a ground beef, adobo and cheese sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes on a hero roll. They have great service as well. It's a small place so not much room to sit for large parties or strollers so we sat out at the little bench areas near by. Unassuming and hard to find if you aren't looking. It is a narrow shop so if more than 5-7 people are in here it would be packed. It is a small spot but packs a punch. They have freshly made cookies which I has. The churro nutella were awesome and I would reorder. The muffins looked delicious as well. I would however go with the bagels. Large fluffy and delicious. The turkey sandwich I got on a bagel was lovely. Would definitely come back. read more

Perfectly chewy bagels. Love the large sized bagels. They have an array of standard bagels and some specialty ones aa well, like the Prosciutto Bagel. French Toast Bagel and Whole Wheat Ciabatta Bagel. The also have a large sandwich board with deli favorites. Very clean space. Counter seating and a few tables outside as well. Ordered on their website. 15 minute pick up time ended up being 38. It was a quicker wait for the people who ordered in the store - saw one girl get in and out in 20 minutes. Very little room to stand and wait inside. The people working there were definitely rushing and doing a good job getting things out, but would've appreciated a better ETA. For the sake of consistency, I will continue moving the line on giving this restaurant a five star review, even if some of the food items do not necessarily warrant it. As you know, I give new restaurants a fair shake by trying multiple things on the menu. Given this is largely a sandwich shop, I got both a Chopped Cheese, and a plain bagel with cream cheese and lox. You can probably see where I am going with this. Anytime you order a Chopped Cheese outside of Hajji's, you have to lower your standards. This applies. It is not bad by any means, but it lacks a little of what makes Hajji's special. At least it is a full sandwich, though it could use a bit more cheese to bind it all together. The chopped beef spills out way too easily here. The bagel? Outstanding. The cream cheese and lox? Even more outstanding. The bagel is fluffy, crunchy, chewy, light, and very easy to eat. It felt hand rolled, I almost forgot I was eating a bagel as I was eating this. The cream cheese layer and lox is spread beautifully and are in equal parts. I was expecting a huge mess, and I ended up with one that required very little, if any napkins on my part. They also offer bakery items, but those are just bonuses if they are good. Nothing is added or detracted. If it was a pastry shop it would get weighed in. Since bread is the primary focus of the restaurant that is what I am going to primarily judge. The restaurant has very little indoor seating, but that is okay too. Outside has plenty of seating that is shaded and protects you from the elements. If I had the time, I would have taken advantage of this. They also offer breakfast and brunch options throughout the day. I am going to have to try one of them eventually. For the bagels, I can happily endorse. Everything else is passable. However, I promised to maintain consistency, and that is why this is getting a five star review instead of a four star review. read more

Nice bagel spot in lower Manhattan near the World Trade Center. The service was quick, the bagels crunchy and big, and they have a rather large menu to choose from. One of these will keep you full most of the day. The coffee was good too. Only drawback, there were only a few stools for indoor seating so we sat outside. This place had one of my all time favorite Ruben sandwich. I was skeptical at first because they used saute onions instead of sauerkraut, but it worked. I had one of the worst cafe experiences at brooklyn Bread Cafe. I waited over 30 minutes for a simple bagel, only to be served cold--and not even toasted properly. To make matters worse, several people who walked in after me were served before me. There was no explanation, no apology, just bad service and a stale bagel. Totally unacceptable. Food wise...compliments to the chef(s)! So far what I have ordered has tasted really yummy. Customer service wise.. it's awkward. There is a young girl there (all Hispanic workers) who is very antisocial and has poor customer service skills. She is very dismissed and depending on who you are, she attends to you or not with a smile. This is the second time I waited almost 20-30 minutes for my order. She's so inattentive and appears to give attention to other customers (noticeably the white/caucasian customers.) Today, I was waiting there 20 minutes of an order I placed 10 minutes in advance (total 30 minutes) and she had it at the counter all along. Handed it to me once I approached the manager to ask about my order, and she dismissively handed it to me and turned around not even apologizing. Not sure what her problem is, bc I have always been respectful of all the staff there. But she always has an attitude towards me for some reason. So unprofessional. Funny thing is I'm the paying customer, and their prices are not cheap! So they should be more gracious to anyone who uses their facility. read more
