The service was very friendly and there are some cute little things available for purchase inside (which I did not purchase), from snacks to random little goodies. Fonty's Bodega asks the question "what if a bodega mostly had Indian food?" As it turns out, the answer is that it would be pretty tasty. I visited on a Sunday morning (close to noon) and discovered it was quite crowded. I managed to squeeze inside and get into the line of about 10 people, each excited to see what Fonty's had to offer. There is a small open kitchen on the left, and then coffee and tea directly in front of you next to the register. There are a few seats in the window (probably a bit cramped with a crowd), and then I later discovered there's a very cozy back room with a few tables and a couch. Once I got to the register, I ordered a chai and a chicken tikka naan-ini (essentially a panini made with naan, rather than the usual flatbread you'll see around NYC). The chai was served immediately, and the man behind the register served it with a bit of a flare, pouring out of the kettle a couple of feet down to the cup. Once I had my chai I settled into the couch in the back room and awaiting my naan-ini. The chai is among the best I've had in New York City. After about 10-15 minutes (wasn't that worried about time as the couch was quite cozy with a chai), my name was called my naan-ini was ready. From what I could tell, they were doing a fairly good job keeping up with demand, which is not always the case. The naan-ini was perfectly heated, and the insides were nice and warm, perfect on a winter day (or any time of year, for that matter). The chicken tikka was very tasty, with the naan serving a perfect vehicle to hold it. Overall, if you find yourself in the Village craving Indian, Fonty's is a great choice that won't leave you stuffed like a regular sit down Indian meal may. Certainly worth a stop by even if you're just looking for a chai. During a quieter time, I could easily see someone hanging out in the back and reading a book, passing the time. A pleasant addition to the neighborhood that I will certainly find myself visiting again. read more

I am not sure if the AC wasn't working or if they just have it, but the staff was friendly with one woman behind the counter taking orders and one in the kitchen making the food. As a group of 3 we ordered the lamb meatball sandwich, beef naanini and vada pav. The food took about 10min to come out so not too long a wait. They don't have any plates so if you dine in you just eat the sandwich out of the wrapping. The lamb meatball sandwich was tasty (good ratio of meatball to bread) but did not have much Indian flavor to it, it felt more Italian. I enjoyed it, but would not feel you have to order this if you go. The beef naanini was perfect, so much flavor, nice spice and the meat was soft. There wasn't too much sauce so that the naan got soggy, but enough to add a nice flavor. Definitely the best sandwich, if you aren't vegetarian/vegan, get this. The vada pav was good, but was just two potato fritters on bread similar to a hotdog bun with spicy chiles and chutney. Good, but not worth going out of your way for, I don't think the bread added anything, they could just serve the fritters as an appetizer. We were still hungry so we tried the chicken tikka naanini (their #1 seller) and while we enjoyed it (it was spicy) it again did not have much Indian flavor to it and the chicken felt like it was a little overcooked. These are all minor as we enjoyed all 4, but the only one I would go back for is the beef naanini. Keep in mind, the portions are as expected, so if you are hungry, one sandwich won't suffice so it can get expensive. read more

Fontys team was extremely rude when I reached out to them. They have no other mode of communication except for Instagram and even there they will make you the bad guy for calling out their mess. They do not give you a phone number or email to reach them. Extremely upsetting experience and the sandwiches were not at all good.
