This sandwich had the potential to be the best sandwich I'd ever tasted, easily. However, it was lacking in the flavor department. It had flavor and it was okay but I was expecting bigger bolder flavors, and the price was wayyy too much. The portions are nice, though.

Got the bombay and chicken tikka sandwich. Both very small for the price. They were OK tasting, bombay better than the chicken tikka. Service was good and nice that they have cute back area seating in addition to bar seating. Lots of merch and fun specialty products in store.

Loved Fontys Deli & Dukhaan in the Village. Such a cute bodega-style spot with fun products and sauces to browse, plus seating in the back that made it a great place to hang for a bit. Good service and kid friendly. We got two veggie sammys -the breakfast sandwich and the Bombay. The breakfast sandwich was really tasty and a solid option, but the Bombay was definitely the standout. Super flavorful, loved all the veggies and the amul cheese. The chai was great too - the iced chai was perfect on a hot day. Only thing is I wish we realized they had a paneer nanini because we definitely would've ordered that too... but now we have a reason to come back :)

Came to grab lunch on a weekday and there was no line. Chicken tikka naanini panini was amazing - definitely recommend that. Scissor wrap was also good but the naanini was the star. Nice amount of seating in the back, and they have a bathroom!

Order the Bombay Sandwich (veg) and Meatball Sub at this cute deli. I would definitely get the Bombay sandwich again - it was juicy, yummy, and flavorful, but the meatball sub is a definite pass. The flavors were bland and not really balanced together. Ambiance is nice, cute and small, however it can do with more frequent cleaning. The light bulbs in the back of the room was also removed as well as from the bathroom which removed the charm and made it feel slightly unclean. Service was good overall.

Long line even on an extremely cold rainy day in nyc. I was really looking forward to trying out fontys but ended up being quite disappointed. The filter coffee and the Vada pav were huge let downs - and idk if it was just an off day or the flavors just missed the mark. I did like the naanini though - their take on an Indian tikka cheesy panini. Seems like they use amul cheese - this itself was worth the 25 minute wait out in the cold rain. I will be back to try out the chai and get the naanini again. I did also enjoy the different items on the shelf for sale. Give it a try on weekdays and get the naanini!

Food: We tried the chai masala and chicken tikka naanini. The chai masala was excellent and one of the best I've ever had. It's served very, very hot (or iced) and has a strong chai flavor. The chicken tikka naanini was also very good - flavorful and warm with tender chicken meat. I would highly recommend both of these items. I look forward to returning to try their other sandwiches. Service: Staff were friendly and welcoming! Ambiance: This is a very small place with about six counter seats in the front of the shop and a small seating area in the back. The back has a homey feel with about five tables that seat 2-3 people each. Overall, I would highly recommend this place!

This is the kind of food people travel to NYC for. First- the spice level on the chicken tikka naan-nini is perfect. It doesn't skimp on texture in the sauce, and the chicken is incredibly juicy. The naan is grilled perfectly and I managed not to make a mess when consuming this. Though the price (almost $20!) may make you take a step back, it is quite a large portion. The sandwich is cut and served in halves, so each half could satisfy a person each. The ambiance is chill- upon entry, you're treated to the sight of cozy merchandise and items like syrups and sauces. The staff were super kind and it took only 5 minutes for my order to come out on a Thursday evening. There is three bar stools in the front for seating and a space in the back with at least 10-11 seats and some tables.

I went here during July 4th weekend and there was barely a line! The service was very friendly and there are some cute little things available for purchase inside (which I did not purchase), from snacks to random little goodies. We ordered a Vada dog, the paneer tikka sandwich, and the Bombay sandwich and all of them were good! If you have had authentic Bombay sandwiches and Vada pav, these may be not be the best ones you've had but overall the flavor and taste were good! Definitely worth trying at least once.

I am a huge fan of this spot. It is very cozy vibes with a few tables in the back to sit and enjoy your food. I went on a weekday and it was pretty quiet at 3pm so I was able to snag a table. The deli has a great variety of products to browse and some of them brought back the childhood nostalgia growing up in a South Asian home. I got the scissor wrap and it was fabulous. Every bite was full of flavor. The masala chai was also perfect. I could see myself becoming a regular if I lived closer. The staff was also great at breaking down the menu.

I came inside for lunch on a Monday and had a good time! It was empty inside and I made convo with the workers. I asked them their favorite items and it was the chicken tikka panini, the tuna melt, and the meatball sub! I ordered the panini and it came out about 5-7 minutes after. There is a cute seating area in the back where I enjoyed my meal. The chicken tikka panini was crispy and warm, with just the perfect amount of spice! It is a good take on traditional Indian cuisine, and I will come back when I crave similar items!

SERVICE - located in West Village near Washington square park - lines can get long especially on the weekends - small interior ordering area that also has some snacks and goods for sale - cozy seating area in the back with tables and couches for solo diners or smaller groups - food served relatively quickly - restroom available for customers MENU - Indian inspired sandwiches - vegan/vegetarian options - average price FOOD - chickpea patty sandwich (8/10): chickpea onion potato patty, lettuce, tomato, Fresno chilies, cilantro, and mango chutney grilled between two pieces of sourdough. This is the only inherently vegan option on the menu though the server said some of the vegetarian ones could be modified. I would highly recommend eating it hot. The flavors are very well balanced with the sweet and spicy chutney and the slight tang from the sourdough. I loved the patty inside as it had a crispy exterior and soft interior, almost like the filling of a samosa. The one part that I was not impressed by was the bread. I expected sourdough to be crispy but this one fell apart as I was peeling back the foil. The sandwich is also not very big but was filling enough for me for a lunch. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! Loved the atmosphere and the sandwich was flavorful and comforting.

Another long line out the door, in which I will partake. In general, it is a very small shop, but it is large for where it is located. The seating is limited and the "kitchen" is cramped, so expect your order to take a while. They have a complimentary drink at the entrance while you wait. I am no expert on Indian cuisine, but my experiences with it usually encompass plenty of spices, flavor, aroma, and heat. I noticed the majority of the crowd ordering the Bombay Sandwich, and that seems to be the consensus on the internet. My take is that the sandwich was rather bland. Everything in the sandwich looked right, but it was lacking something. Perhaps it was a spicy option, as they only use bell peppers. Perhaps it needed a real protein rather than potatoes. Perhaps I need to continue my search elsewhere.

So Annapurna Bhavan had my curiosity before I even walked in. The ambience was good. They don't take reservations, but we were seated as soon as we walked in. Sadly, the food didn't quite deliver. THE GOOD The dosas were well-made and honestly the highlight of the meal. Crispy, properly thin, no complaints there. THE NOT-SO-GOOD Ordered a Rose Milk. Got a rose lassi. These are two completely different things -- rose milk is a light, chilled milk drink; lassi is a yogurt-based beverage. Not a small mix-up if you know South Indian cuisine. The dahi vada was a letdown. It hadn't been soaked in yogurt nearly long enough -- the vadas were still firm, which defeats the whole purpose of the dish. Authentic dahi vada should be pillowy soft. A lot of the menu leans heavily Americanized. The oothappam topped with cheese and jalapeño is a prime example -- it's more Tex-Mex than Tamil Nadu. Fusion is fine, but don't call it traditional. BOTTOM LINE If you're in the neighborhood and craving something South Indian-adjacent, it's convenient and the dosas will do the job. But if you're someone who grew up eating this food and wants the real thing -- you'll probably leave a little disappointed. The location is great; the authenticity needs work.

After an hour of waiting for our food, the three tables around us who arrived after us already got their food and were nearly done with their meal. We ask about this twice, and each time the owner says all three tables "pre-ordered" their food. I was confused and asked every table if this was true and obviously it was not. Before leaving, we confront the owner about the inconsistencies in his story, but he just double downs on his lie, alleging that we don't understand how a restaurant is run. For some reason, he even started to yell at the busgirl who was trying to get him to apologize? In addition to holding us hostage for an hour and continued lying, he tries to make the racist point that Indian food is more sophisticated and takes longer to prepare than other types of Asian food. I feel there are certain standards in the NYC service industry given the competition, and this was a confusing and unacceptable experience. The food was admittedly good, but not good enough for them to have the attitude they had.
