Every time I try a pizza here, it's always fresh and fantastic! I love how the pizza is made to order and is piping hot! Everything I've had has been good: 1/2 upside down vodka with upside down square and Peter's special square pizza is also really good. When I went over the weekend, our server suggested that we try the upside down vodka and Gravesend, which was a delicious combination. Brooklyn Square Pizza has been on my hit list of pizza places to try for quite a while ever since seeing a glowing pizza review. We went with their signature go-to upside down square pie, and also tried a slice of their round pie (about $29-30 total after credit card fee & tax). The standard round pie slice (4/5) was decent, with just the right flavor accents in sauce and cheese for your typical NJ slice. I wasn't a huge fan of the sesame seeds on the crust, but I knew that's how they cook their traditional pie and was open to trying something a little different with the recipe. The upside down square pizza (4.5/5) was delicious, with a unique fluffy interior and somewhat crunchy base. To be honest, I've had better square pies with fresher and more robust tasting sauce and cheese, but still a solid experience such that I'd return and try some of their other menu items. Peter (the owner) was there and he was the kindest soul, taking the time out to chat with us and other customers. I always appreciate a genuinely nice owner, as people like him are what drives repeat business. I wish Yelp allowed half stars, as the experience overall was a solid 4.5 stars. I look forward to trying the Peter special (a thinner version of their upside down pie), as that might just push me to rounding up to a 5 rating, but I believe my rating is fair based on my first experience with Brooklyn Square Pizza. read more

Good pizza in a warm family environment. The ownership was very present in the dining room, checking with with guests and helping out (love to see this!) I went on a Friday night with my husband, and it was very lively. The restaurant is in an unassuming strip mall with easy parking. I am a not a huge fan of thick-crust pizza, but the ingredient quality seemed good. Definitely worth a visit if in the area. read more

I've been bothered for quite a while and can never get it out of my mind. I've finally decided to speak... I am a pizza freak and was so excited to finally give Brooklyn Square a shot after watching Dave Portnoy's review. It must be at least 8-9 months since my visit to Brooklyn Square at the Jackson location. Sad to say my experience was less than stellar. It wasn't the service or friendliness of the staff...I'll explain. We arrived at about 1:30pm, my son and I, along with my friend. We were well greeted and attended to immediately, as it was relatively quiet at the time. I ordered a regular pie. The man in charged, right away asked if I would like the "house pie" as it was already prepared and just needed to be quickly reheated. Not knowing any better and myself always in a rush, I replied sure why not. The pie was ready in less than 10 minutes (great! so I thought). We took the pie outside and sat at the picnic table seating that was available right in front of the shop. The pie looked a little off at first glance. The oil was pooling at the middle. Ok, I said to myself, looks floppy, let's see how it will taste at least. Unfortunately, aside from oily and floppy, it was also "spongy". At this point I was embarrassed, as I was raving to my son and friend about this place I saw on "One Bite Reviews". The two of them also gave my a look of disappointment as well, when they began to eat their slice. ...at least the taste was good. Shortly, after eating what we can, a big black SUV pulled up and a gentleman stepped out and immediately walked towards us and asked how everything was...I suspected that this must be the owner of the establishment. Unfortunately, I lied to him and said everything was great. He asked where we were from, and I replied from Staten Island, NY. He replied "Wow" and thanked us for coming. I use to have a restaurant in the 90's and one of the greatest things I've learned was that 9 out of 10 (polite) customers will not tell you if they disliked your food or service. They just won't return to patronize the place. ...Me I really want to go back to Brooklyn Square and give it another shot one day. Brooklyn Square:...make sure your guys don't try and sell a house pie sitting around that can't be heated up to a crisp again. The pie may move, but the customer may never come back. With that said, I'm sure their pizza is pretty good, I just haven't had the "proper" try yet. read more

The pizza here remains some of the best around- when we want good pizza this is the only place for us. After a decent number of more visits I've realized my initial judgement of the staff was off base. The owner and all the staff have been really friendly even on the busiest of nights we order. Despite this place being an extremely popular spot it has such an awesome home town vibe. The rapport between the staff and regulars makes it fun just to wait for your order to be ready. read more

The pizza is really good and the service is great but definitely consider coming midday, afternoon or just do takeout. The noise level was unbearable for such a small place and made the experience unenjoyable. If you come on a Friday or Saturday night, you'll have to deal with loud Staten Island transplant types who come with their out of control spoiled kids who are not raised to behave in public. One father told his 5 year old kid very loudly that he was going to smack him in the face when he gets home. The mother seemed oblivious and she was on her phone, probably texting her boyfriend the entire time her kids were out of control and screaming. The father was shoveling food down his pie hole like there was no tomorrow. The Toms River location has great pizza as well but there is no room to eat there and the same types come and ruin it. Takeout or come early when it's dead to avoid the socially inept inconsiderate knuckle draggers. read more

Reconsider having catered food from Brooklyn Square Pizza, Jackson, N.J. As a long time customer, as well as family and close friends, we are very disappointed in the service, food and response to our complaint. Four days ago, we had 15 family members in our Manchester home to celebrate the holidays. We ordered four half trays. Food came 45 minutes late. Half the order was horrible. Penne alla vodka was extremely over cooked. But the real horror was the $80.00 half tray of Shrimp Oregenata. We couldn't,t believe what we saw. Approximately four medium sized shrimps and maybe several sliced tips of shrimp. The major part of the shrimp were missing. It was like they cut the small ends of the shrimp and put it back in the pan and threw away or kept the remaining sides of the shrimp for themselves. Numerous attempts to do this nicely by phone. The boss or manager have yet to call (in order to do the right thing). They lost 15 long time customers on this one. read more

I heard about this pizza place and had to try it out. In a somewhat empty plaza I parked and was able to get slices. I got the upsdie down slice and the probably the best square pizza I have had. The pizza and meatball sub were amazing. However, waiting in the crowded small front area and staring at a display case with a few slices of pizza and trash and rags in it affected my appetite. The vent cover in the ceiling by the pizza oven needs a few coats of Greased Lightning and a steel wool scrub in the worst way. Please do a deep clean. Your food is way too good for that. read more

This was really excellent. We stopped and got four squares: the vodka, pepperoni, grandma, and Peter's special. All four were great, but the vodka and pepperoni really stood out for us. The pepperoni had some sort of sweetness to it (honey maybe?), and featured some outstanding roni cups. The vodka was my wife's favorite. stopped here on way back from work, been trying to for a few months. it's been on one bite and got a pretty solid score and i have heard good things from other visitors. also i am a big square fan. it's a nice shop sedating inside and out in a little strip mall in rural nj. Staff was really nice and helped explain some of the slices i couldn't figure out what they were. Most of the slices at least today were square but there were a number of circles also. both meat and veggie choices. i think i ordered a plain square and a plain circle but the sauce on the circle was sort of chunky so not completely sure it was just plain. anyway both were really good they were light but thick and both saucy and cheesy. so they had good consistency and were well cooked and crunchy but these aren't like super thin light slices. they def carry some weight to them. Sort of surprised they got such a high one bite score not because they aren't really good just cause he usually likes a thinner lighter slice. but def worth the visit if you in the area. watch out some of the drivers in the parking lot are crazy so maybe not take a spot where your car is very exposed cause u may get clipped i was just waiting to get hit while i sat and ate and didn't but just saying be careful. read more

Wow! Pizza was delicious, and huge! The toppings tasted fresh and delicious. We had a large cheese and a large sausage and mushroom. Cheese was delicious! Sausage and mushroom was delicious but so incredibly messy. Half the pizza would fall off the crust. What I had of it was tasty but had to deduct points for this, if you saw the mess it made for us you'd understand. Sauce was very nicely balanced. Crust was nice and toasty, not to thick. It did have sesame seeds towards the edge. I'm not a huge fan and you could not mistake the flavor. This took eating the crust off the table for me on every slice. I heard they have Sicilian slices, which I asked for when I called to order, (but it was loud where I was and maybe it was missed... benefit of the doubt) and maybe that crust doesn't have the sesame seeds. I'd like to say I'd give this place another try whenever I'm back in this area, but I'll be more thoughtful in what to order and request a non sesame crust if possible. read more

Not sure what there is left to be said about this place. The Upside down slice is among the best I've ever had and certainly the best square shaped slice ON EARTH. What's more is the service. Immediately upon walking in, you feel like you're a regular regardless of whether or not you've been there before. Our waitress, Donna was a pure delight. She was warm, accommodating, and had great local recommendations. My husband and I are sad that Jackson is so far from Queens, NY, but know it's certainly worth the trip every time we come! read more

Found this place after seeing the One Bite review and stopped in to try the pizza for lunch. Loved it so much we came back for dinner. For lunch, we tried the upside down square and the Peter square. Both were excellent. Super light crunchy crust, might be one of the best we ever tried. For dinner, we had the calamari (amazing), zuppa di mussels, chicken franchaise, linguine with clams, pasta with meatballs and sausage. Everything was excellent and HUGE. Big flavorful portions at really good prices. We'll definitely be back. read more

I know the place is popular, and I know them (and L&B) from Brooklyn. But none of that matters. Just not happy with staff who made a mistake being barked at publicly by the boss in a waiting area full of customers while I stand there waiting to be acknowledged. Humiliating for the employee and unpleasant for the customer. Other friends and family, the same experience, and they won't go back because of that. And again, they got my order wrong: 'B'square, not burned'. It was burned, over cooked, dry. And then getting nickeled and dimed using a charge card. When they want to get it right, they get it right. Maybe they're so busy they don't even care? There are other options, sorry. read more

This is NJ, land of pork roll breakfast sandwiches and pizza pie! and since I relocated here in 2013, you have to know- I have eaten A LOT of pizza. I am not Italian, I really don't have anything like family home cooking to compare it too, except for my Mother In-Laws cooking, she is an angel of food deliciousness, and her clam sauce makes you weep with divine joy. Brooklyn Square Pizza is a local place and I know quite a few people who order from here and swear by it! Wednesday's are our family night to Order In. Mini-Me and her boyfriend chose to bring home BSP for dinner, I should mention, that they order from here at least once a week- so they are speaking from the heart and experience when they say, they love this pizza. They arrived with this heavier than life pie, it smelled delish and looked even better, I was very excited to dig in and see what the fuss was about. So there we are, 5 of us, Hubby & Me, Mini-Me & her Boyfriend and Tamm's my best friend, all seated at the dining room table, we all have a slice and take a bite. It's like really quiet and I look at Mini-Me's boyfriend and I ask, "Is it supposed to taste like that?" we are all looking at each other and my husband and Mini-Me both say, "Umm, I think, it's the cheese...". it doesn't help that Mini-Me comments, with an added, "ya, it doesn't taste like this usually". Tamm's, my Partner In Crime who is 10000% Italian says NOPE! and tosses her slice. My husband with the cast iron Sicilian stomach goes right on ahead and eats it and another slice, his shrugs - it's the cheese. This is a man who eats Caciocavallo sandwiches so... ya know. I don't know what "It's the cheese" means exactly, but I couldn't take a second bite, this pizza was just not what I thought it was going to be. So here is the deal. I am gonna state for the record, it had to have been an off night, because if you know anything about my reviews and Mini-Me's love of food- there is no way in heck, that she is gonna sing the praises of anything, ANYTHING- if it's not worth singing about! especially when it comes to-Pizza her favorite food group next to BBQ- That's just FACTS! cuz this child o'mine is a foodie to her very soul, and she was seriously upset over this.
