I've been to the original Brooklyn Square location and I was happy to see that the restaurant has expanded. I decided to try out one of the other locations and I was pleased. The pizza is still great, the atmosphere and staff are still warm and welcoming - definitely a successful business and recipe. I recommend giving this place a try, but if you're looking for more of the history and lore aspect, the original spot is where you'll be more aesthetically impressed. read more

I stopped in today to grab some delicious slices for lunch and enjoy my new favorite hometown pizza. Having enjoyed several of your other locations over the years, I'm very excited to enjoy the same menu of favorites, right here at home. I have been going to Brooklyn Square Pizza for many years. It is a 25 min drive. I am not a fan of the 'Brooklyn Square' spumoni gardens style.... but those who do like it think that theirs is great. However, my kids and I usually love the Chicken Grippo Pizza - a thin crust with vodka sauce, mozzarella and chicken. We ordered one this past saturday. Very disappointed. First, the crust is just gross. The bottom layer is coming off the crust. Do they cook these in advance and freeze them? Plus while the chicken, cheese and sauce are very good - they do not cover the whole pizza - it is very uneven with some of the corners having 50% of the slice uncovered - just a dry gross crust. They have raised the price of the pizza and has gone down in quality. Meanwhile - they are pretty busy. Call them on Friday night and they will tell you an hour or 2 hour wait for pickup. They are opening up a new place near me on rt 520/rt 79. I hope whatever we try there is better than what I got this weekend. Otherwise, I won't be ordering. read more

Anytime I'm in the area, I just have to stop for some L&B style upside down pie. The sauce is so flavorful and balanced. Pair that with the perfect crust, and you've got a pizza that knocks it out of the park. If you're not about the red sauce, give the vodka slice a try, which is a close second. Staff is friendly, service is quick, and indoor seating is plentiful. Your typical pizza joint atmosphere with not your typical pizza. read more

I was originally going to give Brooklyn Square Pizza 4 stars based on my first visit, but today I had their 3 cheese with garlic and olive oil square pizza slice and LOVED it! I have to give this place 5 stars because that pizza was so amazing! Their Peters and upside down is also very good too! Their pizza is soft, moist, and doughy. So this review is just for the upside down Sicilian dine-in, but, WOW, I LOVE this pizza! The sauce was awesome both flavor-wise and texturally (ever-so-slightly chunky, which I love), the cheese was perfectly melted, and that dough thoooooo. Very slight crisp on the bottom but overall doughy and chewy, which is EXACTLY what I like (but understand that's not everyone's preference). I love when there's some weight behind the dough and it's not just completely airy floof. Our server was also sooo friendly and even offered to move us to a larger table to help make the pizza not feel so crammed on our table even though we were just two people. A fair amount of seating inside, I would say maybe for 20ish people. It's a good thing we live so far away, otherwise, we'd probably be here once a week. Highly recommend! read more

Square crust pies were really good, but there was a staple (yes, like from the office supply) in my eat-in slice. Counter girl was receptive and offered me a new slice, but it was going to be from the same pie.... In my opinion they should have scrapped that whole pie for safety reasons. Staple aside, the upside down was delicious and the crust had a nice crunch. The person I was dining with had 2 slices from that pie that did not have staples, so I was just "lucky" The staple fiasco swap out did give me the opportunity to try the round pie slice. I didn't realize there was sesame seeds on the crust... not a fan as I can't eat seeds like that. The slice was thin and held up / wasn't floppy but I didn't love it though. A guy was on social media telling me the square pizza at Brooklyn Square Manalapan is better than L&B Gardens. (Camera deadpans to my face) Better?! People have fond memories of Brooklyn and for me, L&B Spumoni Gardens is what I hold near and dear to my heart. Heading to the strip mall in Manalapan, I spot Brooklyn Square. I park in the back and walk inside. Just a typical pizza place that you'd find, well in Brooklyn. Jersey pizza, I have to be on guard. Jersey is famous for their "Bar pizza". It has a story, anything outside of New York is dopey to me so let them enjoy their nonsense. I go to the register and show the girl the social media picture. I'd like this slice please. Coming right up sir. I grab a nice Manhattan Soda and sit to enjoy my pizza. Alright! The pizza is good! Nice crust, the sauce isn't sweet or overpowering and the cheese is a high end blend. I hate a wet, sloppy pizza square. I have seen Dom from Difara take crust out of the pan with his bare hands. The Brooklyn-Manalapan pizza makers have the secret formula for Brooklyn pizza. A friend was sent to introduce me to Brooklyn Square Pizza. Knowing that I come from Brooklyn, New York and that some of the best pizzerias are located in Brooklyn, he knew this would be a difficult task. However, I will say Brooklyn's pizza was perfect; the sauce the cheese to the Dough was nicely cooked. I will even go out of my way to say that it could compete with some of the best pizzerias in Brooklyn. The staff at this location was super friendly, and I was thankful that I finally could visit a place that everyone in New Jersey talks about; I would highly recommend this establishment. One bite review brought me here. Pretty good Square pizza reminiscent of the famous square pizza at Spinoni gardens in Brooklyn. Although it's not my favorite style of pizza, the square is pretty tasty and not as heavy as it looks. The sauce is pretty tangy and you get a nice whiff of the Romano cheese. The thin layer of fresh mozzarella is right under the sauce which you don't really notice until you start to chew for a bit. I prefer it on the top. The crust is a bit too soft and doughy in the middle but the edges are crunchy. If it were a bit more well done it would be a perfect 5 stars. read more

This is one of my favorite pizza places in the area. We normally do delivery from here but we have gone in to pick up and eat in. The pizza here is 5 stars all the way. You can't go wrong with their sesame seed crust pies or their famous Brooklyn Square pie. Their sauce is delicious and the pies always have the perfect amount of toppings. One star off because delivery takes forever! I've never received it in less than an hour. On the flip side, it's always delivered hot and in one piece! I've been to Brooklyn square before, their Toms River location, and it lived up to the hype. So I figured the Manalapan location would be just the same. I was quoted 45 minutes, which was fine, but they called me after 20 minutes saying my pizza was ready. But I didn't expect that, so the pizza was just sitting there waiting for me for 20 minutes. Hubs and I were craving for pizza after he got back from work. We ordered the Johnny Pepe, which is a square pie and it's heavy on the black pepper with burrata mozzarella and pecorino. We saw the word "burrata" and had to get it. Note for next time: make sure there's tomato sauce on the pizza if it's not written on the description. Yes, this pizza was basically a white pie with cheese on top. No fault but ours. In the past, we knew if tomato sauce wasn't written, not to get it. But, burrata got to us and we assumed tomato sauce was included. LOL. It tasted ok but needed sauce. It was a little oily from the extra olive oil but it was good. We had it again the next day at home and put tomato sauce and onions on it. What a big difference! It tasted great! We also ordered calamari and it tasted great. It was nicely fried and perfect. I'm a little surprised Brooklyn Square isn't averaging 4 stars like their location in Jackson because imho the pizza is excellent. I can only vouch for their Brooklyn Square pie and super caesar salad, as that's all I tried. Their delivery service was super fast. We had our food within 20 minutes of ordering it. The Brooklyn Square pie is very similar to L&B Spumoni Gardens' version. It's an upside down pie (mozerella cheese, then sauce, then shredded parmesan). The slices are humongous. The crust is thick, dense, buttery, and doughy. I personally love a moist, doughy crust but understand that this isn't everyone's preference when it comes to pizza. They are very generous with the cheese and their rich, homemade tomato sauce. The pizza was so good that I seriously didn't want to stop eating it and was sad when I was too full to go on. The super caesar salad lived up to its name. It has breaded, instead of plain grilled, chicken and mozzarella cheese in addition to parmesan. The chicken was a little skimpy given the size of the salad but there was a large amount of both kinds of cheese. I can't wait to order from here the next time I'm in the area! read more

We did the upside down pie and the gravesend, along with a penne vodka and a fettuccine alfredo and some garlic knots. The pizza was world class. Absolutely delicious. Super airy. Just 5 stars all the way. Even had my friend from Queens, a guy that buys pies in Brooklyn to bring back to PA where he now lives because he can't deal with the pizza out there, try it and agree it was great. The vodka sauce was really good, but the alfredo had zero salt and was super bland. It was cheesy though, so I was just confused why so bland. This place was our goto spot since moving from brooklyn as it cured our cravings for l &B. But the last 3 ordered have been totally disappointing. The sauce taste incredible and the amount of ingredients is perfect. The only thing wrong was the last 5 pies we ordered that was an upside down style came in totally undercooked and soggy. The bottom of the dough was almost a focaccia type and not crisp as what it once was. Not sure if they changed there ovens or just pumping them out without proper cooking times. I love this place. I was really excited to try this place since it's a top rated Dave Portnoy Pizza Review. However I was unpleasantly surprised because the pizza did not live up to my expectations. As you can see in the photo it was very oily and dough-y. I put the pizza vertically and spoons of oil dripped down. I went through so many napkins trying to take it all off. I know some people like oil on pizza so then you'd like it but I was not a fan. Brooklyn Square needs to be on every pizza connoisseur's bucket list! I have been a fan since their actual Brooklyn days and I happened to be in the area visiting family in NJ so I had to stop by. This pizza stands up to some of the best pizza places in country. We ordered the upside down pie and the Sophia Loren. Now I know that many people think the squares are similar to another famous pizza spot from Gravesend. I don't think it even compares. This slice has a crisper crust which was evenly cooked, perfect cheese to sauce to crust ratio and a flavorful sauce. I can eat a whole pie on my own for sure. The Sophia Loren slice is one of my favorite slices of all time. It's a highly seasoned, garlic forward slice with fresh mozzarella and tomato. The game changer is the sesame seed crust. It creates some extra crisp and flavor and whenever I see it on a pizza crust it just brings it to another level. I cannot wait to get back there. Add this spot to your list! read more

Went to a party at a friends house and they ordered a few pies from here. I did not have any that night but I took a few squares home and reheated them the next day (in the oven) and holy Hell is it fantastic! I'm not much of a square pizza fan but this is probably the best I've had. The crust is thick and crispy, the sauce is sweet and tangy and just the right amount of cheese. read more
