I've been there twice: 1. Breakfast. Food was fair. Service was fair. Prices high. 2. Dinner. A much better experience. Had the chicken noodle soup and a potato knish. Both were awesome and tasted real (although I can do without the funky bowl shape). Real mustard is a requirement for me ... and it's on the table. Staff were amazingly friendly. I was offered free pickles - nice gesture (plus, why waste them if they won't be eaten). Bill was $8. You can't beat that for real food. The hostess was very generous-seated us so quickly even though they were quite busy-and the waitress was lovely, never rushed us but never forgot us-just perfect. I live in Delaware but come to Rockville for monthly appointments. I stay at the best western Rockville inn and suites and have been to Brooklyn's deli several times. The service is great and the food is even better. Take-out or eat in are both fantastic. Service is fast and friendly. The deli counter is usually extra quick and even though there's usually a short line it never takes me more than 10 or 15 minutes to order and receive my food. Never had a problem or complaint. So the food was just bad, they didn't put any salt on my chicken soup and my partner was disappointed as well because he didn't have salt on his soup as well. The only thing I could eat is the chocolate brownie which was fine. I personally don't recommend coming here at all for dinner. Not only is this place the best place for hot, fresh Pastrami in MOCO but all the portions and tastes are right-on. I've eaten in NY delis my entire life and Brooklyns is right up there with them. When I contacted Brooklyn Deli to request a refund they said that they contract another company to handle their online orders and that I would have to contact that company. Possibly the worst service of any restaurant in Potomac. Their call-in service since covid started is almost comical...they simply can never get an order correct. Always something missing or wrong. I placed an order on Father's Day. The lady read the order back to me on the phone, and yet when we got home, 20% of the order was missing. I called to have the order corrected. The first time the guy just put the phone down and ignored it, and the second time she put me on hold and never came back. However, the service is usually prompt and they are willing to help. The matzoh ball soup is delicious and the pastrami is my favorite in Potomac. I took my niece who is named Brooklyn to the Deli because it was her name. We were seated around 1230 and then ignored. By 1248 I had a hungry 7 year old and no server. Ok... I'm Brooklyn born and raised. These sandwiches and the meat had a very good likeness to my favorite deli in Brooklyn, NY. Davids brisket House.. I was very pleased when someone recommended this place to me. I stopped in it was empty, they have a to go side and a side to sit and eat. I would've given negative stars if I could. I got a credit at this deli as a gift for my mother's Shiva. It took 4 calls to place the order, they would put me on hold and never come back. We ordered a few salads, sable fish platter and white fish salad, grilled chicken breast and some side dishes. With the exception of the side dishes everything else looked and tasted as if they gave us some leftovers from the day before. And they used the cheapest canned olives and kippers available as fillers for the sable fish platter, $25, with the minuscule amount of fish. The white fish salad had more maionese and salt in it than fish. They gave the cheapest subway kind of bread. Disgusting and disgustingly expensive. I got 2 eggs, home fries and toast, for the lady a standard western omelet. Never again! No, we will not return to this deli. Certainly not when there are so many good restaurants to choose from. My husband and I went for lunch and were essentially ignored by our waitress. We each ordered sandwiches and an order of fries to share. Our sandwiches came but no fries ever came, although our waitress said that they would be coming soon. We waited and waited and tried to get our waitress' attention for pickles as well. She passed us by without making eye contact. She brought us our bill and fries were on the bill. My husband got up to where the boxes were kept and she was there too. She asked if anyone brought us a box and my husband responded "no one brought us anything." In fact, what they do is give you a hot fatty cornbeef sandwich in a bad attempt to cook off the fat, EVEN WHEN YOU ASK FOR A COLD SANDWICH. For Christ's sake, I say. I've gone to the one in Travilah and thought it was pretty good. However the take out at the Rockville location was horrible. My order was pretty simple... Corned Beef on Rye. I went for the big one, since I'm from Chicago and used to bigger portions. $11.00 later I was chowing on the skimpiest corned beef sandwich I have ever had outside of a shiva house. Not only that, but it was LOADED with fat. BTW, this was my second attempt. The first attempt was even worse as they were still working out the kinks. Had dinner here on a lazy Tuesday night. Ordered a whitefish salad (came with a bagel) and some cheesesteak-like concoction on pumpernickel bread, and a potato knish. All were good to excellent. The whitefish salad was solid, though not out of the ordinary, but the bagel that came with it was fantastic. The main sandwich was great - not too greasy, flavorful meat, the right amount of muenster cheese - really hit the spot. The potato knish was good, and went very well with the whitefish salad. A satisfying and very filling meal overall. Prices are a dollar or two higher than I'd prefer, and service was a bit gruff. It's a great place to go if you live in the area. read more

The food is excellent, and if you sit down for a sandwich, the service is hit or miss; but the worst--and I mean the absolute worst--is the take out. I have gone in and ordered food for take out about ten times over the past 18 months. Six of those times were ok--no problem. But four were beyond awful, and the last time I went in I knew they would not see me again for take out. Situation: weekday, no one there--middle of afternoon. Heavyset, pleasant guy takes my order. Disappears. I figured he went in the back to slice the meat (which they sometimes do). I sit down and wait. And wait. Nothing. He emerges. Takes a phone call...just chattin' away. I get up and ask: "Will the order be ready soon?" AT that point, he says good-bye on the phone and begins to slice the corned beef. I said "What? Hey--forget about the rest of the order, just give me that and let me get outta here." I'm tired of making excuses for this place -- which I did the first several times I ate at Brooklyn's because I was so happy to have a deli in Potomac again after the (much deserved) demise of Celebrity. Delis are supposed to have two things: ambiance, and great corned beef. This place has neither. The atmosphere is as sterile as a hospital cafeteria, and the corned beef is tasteless. And the service is terrible -- not the charming kind of terrible you get at Carnegie Deli -- but rude and tiresome service that just makes you angry. Even after being open for several months, the food preparation process is unreasonably slow (45 minutes for sandwiches) and the servers routinely make mistakes with the orders. There appear to be two owners -- one who is surly and disrespectful, and one who is apologetic though unable to rectify the restaurant's problems. About the only thing Brooklyn's does well is bagels (which I bet they "import"). I suspect this place will do well for a while simply because there is a large appetite for deli food in Potomac, but others will get fed up with the bland food and poor dining experience, as I have. read more

My husband and his friend ate at the restaurant last week and both ordered corned beef sandwiches with coleslaw. Later that evening and throughout the next day my husband had horrible cramps and other stomach related issues. He also had chills (all symptomatic of food poisoning). Similarly, his friend had some of these symptoms. When my husband contacted the restaurant, nobody responded.
