Loved the food. The bbq was delicious. I had the pulled pork sandwich with the sweet apple bbq sauce. Great service and nice atmosphere.

Hard for me to leave this review because I can tell his heart was in it but BBQ in the south is very competitive and this just was a miss for me. So let's start with the good: The service was top notch and the restaurant was super clean! The decor is definitely hip and I love to see places like this popping up in small towns. Our server, and likely the owner or at least one of, was extremely attentive, anticipating our needs and checking to ensure we were all set. Great experience in that regard. Now the food: As far as food goes it was good and the prices weren't bad, at least going rate for bbq joints these days. As far as bbq, there is better out there. We don't live in the area so we wouldn't be regulars anyway. If we did live in the area, I'd eat there again but as far as bbq goes, it's not my first choice. The ribs were good. The brisket was a bit dry and a lean cut rather than the fatty cut we asked for. The collards could use a bit of vinegar/pepper sauce, not sure, just missing something to make them hit. The Mac n cheese, I think maybe they were trying for a gourmet flair with some specialty cheeses, not sure. Had I expected that, like something in the description on the menu, maybe I would've enjoyed it more. I'm open to new and fresh spins on classics, but I was expecting traditional baked mac-n-cheese. The Brunswick stew was good but a bit flat on flavor. I added salt. The baked beans... they actually did hit. I can certainly give em that one. The kiddos got chicken tenders and fries and while I didn't try them they did look good. The tenders looked like they would make a delicious sandwich too. The sweet tea was perfection. Overall lunch was good and I do wish the restaurant well. I just think they have a bit of room for improvement. read more

My family shared a brisket plate. Even though the fried okra and potago salad were decent, the meat was extremely dry. You could even tell the dryness from just looking at it. The staff was kind, nothing that really went above and beyond. If you're looking for good juicy BBQ, unfortunately this isn't it. read more

We placed a catered pickup order for a party. The ordering process was very easy and Chris helped me figure out the amount of food we would need. The BBQ- Brisket, pulled pork and ribs- were excellent. We had never tried the potato salad- and I am VERY picky about potato salad- this was excellent. The collard greens came with jalapeno corn muffins- absolutely delicious. They have 2 different coleslaws- we had the vinegar based, yum. Buns were provided for the sandwiches, We tried 3 different sauces- they all were good and had very distinct flavors. As a dessert we had a half pan of the banana pudding-what a way to finish-we all enjoyed it. Inside of the restaurant is very clean and organized- they have brews on tap and a large variety of others by singles. They have TVs to watch sports-can't wait to try football season. Stopped in here enroute to Augusta for lunch- and really glad we did! Got a pulled pork sandwich and brisket plate and a side of fries. The meats were fresh and tasty and their pinto beans were flavored with peppers- delicious! The fries were hot and served in a giant cone- plenty for sharing! Will be back! read more

I hope the restaurant is ok because Brookhire catered an event this week and delivered the worst bbq I have ever had. The pulled chicken and pork were so dry they had no flavor. The brisket was over done with no smoke ring and could barely be cut with the plastic knives. The slaw with peppers was odd. I could look past some of these but the sauces were atrocious. Putting some hot sauce or apple cider vinegar in ketchup doesn't make it bbq sauce! Or serving yellow mustard. In the future I'll be avoiding any events that Brookshire caters. 5 Bs may be more expensive but they're worth it. read more

Fabulous!! It's a small Bbq restaurant with a bar and a few tables. Clean and all I needed to get my fill of great Bbq!! Fresh roll of paper towels on the table and the owner kept my Coke filled up. I had the 1/2 rack of baby back ribs that were dry rubbed and smoked to perfection. A side of smoked poblano pinto beans, coleslaw and Texas toast. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich, chips and house made pickles and pickled onions. She knows good Bbq and said it was fabulous. Don't miss this one. True legendary Bbq from a local pit master right here in Madison. I will certainly return on my next trip!! read more

We're visiting Madison for Labor Day weekend. While there were some great meals our first night, we decided to give Brookshire a try, as my husband is a big fan of BBQ. We were greeted by who I assume is the owner, and he was incredibly kind and attentive to our family, despite a large rush coming in. He also gave us a great explanation of all of the menu choices. I had the pulled pork plate with potato salad and coleslaw, and my husband had the brisket plate with egg salad. We both really enjoyed our meals, and I think it was probably the best potato salad I've ever had. The restaurant is a converted train car (I think), which keeps it with a casual and fun feel. Definitely give this place a try if you're ever in the area! read more

Went on a Sunday and got the brisket plate with the mayo based coleslaw & smoked chicken salad as a side... the food was so good we didn't stop to take a picture! The service was great as well, we ordered at the bar and they brought our food outside and then a bowl of water for my dog when they noticed he was sitting out there. The restaurant itself was so cute, it looks like an old train car. Will 1000% be back. read more
