My hubby and I decided to do Brother Don's Bar & Grill for breakfast this morning as it's one of our absolute favorite spots. I was craving their grilled cheese and tomato soup like crazy this morning and they didn't have it on their breakfast menu but they had no hesitation in letting me get my favorite go-to here of the bacon grilled cheese and tomato soup. Kristin, our waitress, has been our waitress a few times and every single time she is so quick and friendly. We really love the customer service here. My husband and I had a tough week as we had to put down my four year old golden retriever unexpectedly and this is our first time out to try to get back to normalcy and it was delightful. My husband got his favorite which is the top sirloin chicken fried steak and it was exceptional. I cannot say enough about their tomato soup that came with my grilled cheese... Visiting the Puget Sound area, we timed it right to be witness to a Bomb Cyclone event that shut down Seattle. Our rental had no power and we ended up at a hotel about 90 minutes away (where the power didn't go out) to wait out the clean up. We were looking for a quick meal to take-away and chill in our room. The website for this restaurant tells of their specialty olive oil pizza dough. Comfort food during a stressful situation sounds good. I called them a couple times and no one answered. At one point the call dropped, another I could hear background noise, but no greeting so I started the conversation. Not a great beginning, but we ordered. No name was asked for to go with the order. The building is fronted by a small parking lot, the entrance to which is right next to another businesses lot and they do not connect. It's a busy road so use care chosing the correct entrance. The building has a couple of doors and it is not abundantly clear which is the main entrance. I went in the door at the middle of the building which accessed the bar. The bar itself is smallish and was filled with a group who appear to be the regular local crowd. A few tables in this area were also seated. The bartender was pleasant and our order was ready. She appears to be the only one working, so did she prepare the meal too? The atmosphere is dark. It doesn't scream 'welcome' but also doesn't scream 'get off my lawn'. A local dive bar fits well here. Friendly without the glitzy wrapping. As we ordered take away I can't speak to the drink quality, variety or price. Two dinner size salads, two side salads and a small cheese pizza came to about eighty dollars. The blue cheese dressing poured like a ranch and has a bit of blue cheese flavor. The salads were fresh and dressings is 'on the side.' I forgot to ask for plastic forks and no forks or napkins were provided. We asked the hotel for some and thankfully they graciously obliged. I've never tried to eat a salad with my hands. Thankfully I didn't have to try. The pizza was not that good. For the price of a twelve inch pizza and website hype we hoped for more. We ate maybe half. The pizza crust is not overly thin and definitely not thick. Although the crust had a crunch to it, it was still 'doughy' in some places so needed some more cook time. The sauce and cheese were average. A liberal sprinkle of garlic salt was added over the top, possibly after cooking. This is a pizza you can get at any pizza shop. Just OK. Food choices in this area are limited. Lots of 'bar and grill' establishments. From our limited exposure, this is about as good as it gets for the area. Bon appetite. read more

We just moved to the area and stopped in for dinner, since our kitchen is still on the moving truck. My husband suggested my go to meal when I'm traveling, a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato soup. Shout out to the ladies working who gave great service even though a 60th birthday was starting. Unknown if the birthday man is related to brother don but i think so! Food was very good and we both finished our plates. Limited bar seating but plenty of restaurant style seating. Yearbooks from the 1970's plus a a storyline about don by the door. Theres a big screen tv over the main area and a few smaller tvs over the bar plus pull tabs. Recommend stopping by. Horrible. I have never eaten at a place that literally every member's meal was just yuck. Poppers over cooked. Not hot at all. Weirdly tasted like mustard in them. Salad was soggy. Hamburgers are frozen patties, not sure how to describe the steak, kids didn't even like the grilled cheese. No seasonings at all. Had to wait forever for butter and sour cream for my baked potato. I love a place that plays old 80's rock on a snowy Saturday night, along with the bowl games on screens around the room! We were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in, and sat ourselves right away. The decor is nothing fancy, but comfortable. The menu has a lot of good choices, at good prices. We ordered the Italian dip sandwich, and a grilled chicken burger (you can substitute grilled chicken for any burger on the menu). Both were delicious, and came with tots or house fries with the skin on them. The only funny thing was the TV near our table had a color problem, and everyone was green. But after a glass of wine, it was fun to watch all the football players "hulking out" on the field. We will go again. read more

She was busy taking orders to other tables so it took a few minutes for me to place my food order, not too long though. The food was as advertised and as good as everyone said in the reviews. I think this is as close to a "Cheers" environment that we have ever experienced! Everybody seemed to know each other, and it seemed like a great place for the locals! We came for lunch and ordered the fish and chips and a burger and fries. ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!! Love it when they leave the skin on the fries. The burger was so big that my husband couldn't even finish it...that's a first too!!! Our servers were Samantha and Bart, and you can tell that they truly do know everybody's name! We'll be back. This is a sad Review. Brother Don's was my go-to place for 4 years every Sunday I went to the jam session and every Monday I went to hear jazz and every Tuesday I went to hear Blues. I ate my dinner there and had a drink. I brought my little service dog who is totally perfectly trained and behaved, never a peep out of her. most people were very happy to see her. I am 76 years old and I enjoy live music. I had a very bad experience with the manager and some new customers to Brother Don's who decided that I could not have my service dog in there and began swearing at me in the parking lot using the f word every Sunday when I arrived to the jam session. This escalated to happening indoors calling my dog a "rat" and they were going to "hurt me bad and kill my dog"! Can you believe that! I could not believe it myself. When I told the manager/ owner, whose name I will not mention, what was happening after a month and a half of this harassment, he told me he "did not care what happened in the parking lot" and further when these same group of people began attacking me inside going out of their way to walk all the way across the room where I was sitting quietly and my dog was sleeping on the floor, I was approached by a man who said "don't bring THAT over here". I then went outside in the parking lot to try to calm down when I was again attacked by one of the same group swearing at me using the f word about my dog. He stood in front of me waving his arms and swearing at me and would not let me pass by him and then I threw a drink in his face and ran to my car got in the car and locked the door. I called 911 to rescue me. The owner/manager I told the police officer something that I assaulted a customer because I threw a drink in his face as he was using the f word and telling me what I should do with my f'ing dog. He would not let me pass by him. I threw my drink in his face and ran for my car and called 911. The police came, the owner had nothing to say about being harassment and swearing at me by his very disgusting customers doing this for a month and a half. He had never approached them to ask what their problem was or anything about why they were swearing at me. I was trespassed and trespassed passed even from the parking lot, and told if I come to the parking lot I will be arrested! This was the most horrible thing I've ever been through in my life. I'm a very easy to get along with person, I don't bother anybody, I just go to hear the music enjoy their good food and never had a problem. Whoever these customers are they are very bad people and they should have been kicked out. The owner/manager told me these people we're from the health department! However when they thought I called 911 they raced out of the bar towards their car and one man said to the other hurry up and get in the car and they waste out of the parking lot. I took their picture with my phone. I don't believe people from the health department behave like that. Sorry to say I will never go to Brother Don's again. It's very sad for me because I had many friends there. I have no respect for the owner/manager whatsoever anymore if he would allow bullying harassment from large grown men picking on a 76-year-old 5'2 woman and her tiny terrier service dog. What kind of men are these they are not men. I would advise not to go there unless the ownership changes. Sad story The demise of a very nice music venue. read more

While conducting a meeting out here, lunch time came and we went here. The place is like a neighborhood sports bar & grill type place. They had seating all around inside along with different menu items with prices displayed as banners wrapped around the walls of the place like it was the Seahawks, "Ring of Honor".. anyhow, getting to the food, they have burgers, salads and their, "Award Winning Fish & Chips." I ordered their coke and it was so good. Fresh out the pack and fizzling! The server even refilled it, once our meals came. I had the fish & chips and it was fried to perfection, but sad to say and a question I have for them.. Where's the seasoning? The fish tasted bland. The fries were good. The tartar sauce tasted like thick mayo and the coleslaw was good; it was the perfect mix of cole and slaw with poppy seeds to give it flavor. The food was here and there, but the service was good. But, if you're looking for a solid neighborhood dining experience backed by a full service bar and reliably good eats, Brother Don's will feel like home. Folks rave about their burgers. They are very, very good. So are their hand cut fries. But, I usually go for their award winning fish and chips, possibly the best I've ever had. I don't know how they prepare the fish or what secret ingredients they add to their batter. Whatever secret magic they have reliably conjures memorably good fish. Piping hot, it is served along side old style fries with a cup of their home made clam chowder (an up sell, when available). These guys serve up some serious comfort food. Both were served hit and fresh from the kitchen. The server was actually running with the drinks and food to get it out as quick as she could. That was nice to see she cared enough about our meal that she gave it the extra effort of speed. Food was grilled as requested and portions were generous. Prices ranged in the $10-$11 range for burgers/specials. The coleslaw was noteworthy due to the huge portion of it, as well as the flavor; nicely done with neither overly sweet or sour. A good flavor overall. All in all I would revisit this restaurant, and probably have a beer there if I went on Seahawks game day or for dinner. Don't let the facade fool you...the food is great! Yes, it looks like a bike bar from the front, and looks like a bar from the inside, but it is worth it. And, kids can come in too. I'm a Bremerton native that moved down to San Diego a good 17 years ago, but all my family is still here - so I turn up once a year to visit, pick berries and enjoy the great NW Summer. My brother lives up on the hill in front of Brother Don's and suggested we stop in for a beer on the way back from the airport before proceeding to my parents house (always a good idea!). I'll admit, at first I was a little taken aback - I've lived far away for too long and I'd forgotten the dark 70's sports bar vibe that Bremerton seems to be known for. Once my eyes adjusted, we settled in at a table by the back window and I ordered a Rainy Daize IPA (and a remarkably tasty burger and hand cut fries), I was hooked. Bremerton has never had great restaurants overall, but this is an especially solid casual option for this area of town. We've been there twice on this visit and both times there have been families and older couples who generally are still stuck in the 70's, but no scary biker types. The locals have a pleasant convivial vibe. Yeah, there will probably be people out front facing the parking lot smoking, but that's no big deal to me. The menu is limited, but they do a great job on the food they do serve and have very reasonable prices. read more
