I had dinner here and really enjoyed it! My wife and I + 6yo and 9yo had a great seafood dinner. Spanish style garlic shrimp app was perfect to share with bread to sop up the sauce. The kids had awesome fish and chips and had a choice of fish!...there were no fries left on their plates. Fish tacos were really good and loaded with fresh crispy fish, and the daily special pan fried bass over sweet corn puree was really nicely done. Overall, the food was awesome, this place cooks for real...very creative and well executed. Fresh seafood is pricey so expect a higher bill. Great fish and chips. Not greasy. SUPER fresh fish. Owner is polite and accommodating. Menu is simple but good. They had three fresh, local microbrews on tap when I was there, and i sampled them all and shared them with my husband. I had the seafood stew, and it was satisfying and balanced. Great staff & great food. I come here often as I live nearby and it's never a disappointment. Frequently getting takeout from here. The fish is fresh and not greasy whatsoever. This place is awesome! The fish and chips and red beans a rice with pico de gallo are my fav. Being from the mid-west, it seems to be the NY way to be a little less friendly (pertaining to previous posts about the friendliness of staff) BUT surprisingly the guys working were very friendly after getting to know them. Have nothing but great things to say about this place. Homemade hand-cut fries are way above average, excellent fried or grilled fish, even the coleslaw is much better than your average mayonnaise soup with cabbage. Freshest fish, prepared with care and high quality ingredients. The battered fried fish that came in my tacos and others' fish and chips was non-greasy, light and crispy. Beautiful presentation of dishes, with thoughtful drizzles and garnishes. Appetizer of mussels was served with a delicious broth and the freshest of crusty bread to sop it up with. A final delightful (complimentary) surprise: house-made ice cream served on a bed of lemony cookie/cake crumbles for the table to share. My husband and I decided to go casual tonight and eat in the takeout side of the business (vs the more expensive sit down restaurant adjoining). There's a communal table for six which was empty at 7:00 on a Saturday night. The gentleman at the counter was very nice! We started with the red snapper ceviche ($12)--delicious. We each then had a combo platter of two fried fish strips, four fried shrimp, French fries, coleslaw, and homemade tartar sauce. My husband had bass and I had cod but we honestly couldn't tell the difference. If you're thinking that's a lot of fried food, you're right! Good news is the batter is very light and the fries are fresh and not greasy. The only negative I'd say is the seasoning could have used a little kick (probably why we voted the ceviche as our favorite--had a nice ginger, citrus tang). All told, out meal came to $55 (including my husband's beer and a small tip)--sounds like a lot for dinner in a takeout place but actually a lot less than eating next door and everything came out quickly and piping hot. read more

This is exactly what our part of Westchester needs -- A very good fish n'chips (plus other very good items like ceviche and more). Extremely good food and very reasonably priced (especially the takeout which is even less expensive). They have revamped the old space and elevated the food. Presentation is very nice, portions are generous and the service welcoming. The owner came out to ask us how everything was. I've come to dine here a couple of times now. The first time was okay, the second time proved to be an unpleasant experience, but the food here is decent and I will probably be back in the future. This restaurant has two separate areas, a take-out area with more casual tables and a nicer dining area with waiter service. I cannot complain about the servers, all the times I've come in they have been very attentive to all their tables. You have a choice of bass, flounder, and cod when it comes to the fish and chips dish (approx. $20 a plate) and the serving is just enough to satisfy one person, or split with one other friend if you wanted to try several dishes. The last time I was here was on a Friday during the Lent season and they seemed to be under prepared as the food was very slow to come out. By the time my fish and chips plate came out my fish was cold. I was so hungry from waiting so long, I just ate it. Dessert wise, the chocolate cake was nothing special, but the flan is definitely a must order. The dining room is not very big so expect to wait if you plan on coming in during prime dinner hours. read more

Looking for good local bites after years of Manhattan living and dining, we were treated to delicious ceviche followed by fish tacos with a hint of sweetness and outstanding fish & chips with a delectable tartar sauce. I saw Brothers Fish & Chips on Restaurant Hunter and suggested it when my husband said let's go somewhere new. Petrone said this place is excellent and his reviews are mostly--but not always--on point so I thought it would be good. What an understatement. The facade is unimpressive, but the food at Brothers Fish & Chips is excellent. I had the saffron rice (one of yesterday's specials). It was sheer delicious perfection--sort of like paella, with octopus, and other seafood. My husband had never tasted shrimp and grits, so he tried it--supurb! My coconut pie desert was good, but what can I say about the flan. I never order flan--even in the best Manhattan restaurants it is never more than ok. Brothers Fish & Chips' flan was a revelation. It tasted like a heavenly cross between an excellent flan and natilla de leche. Truly the best I've ever tasted--and I've tasted flan on three continents! The food is plated like the best city restaurants, it is delicious, the staff are all very nice, service is good. And, most of all, the food is awesomely good. The one thing I would change is the dessert presentation. The flambe is cute, but not necessary every time. I was disappointed that the octopus seared in duck fat was not on the menu yesterday. Been going to Brothers for a little over a year. Their fish 'n chips are the best anywhere around here! BY FAR! Always fresh and the best french fries you can ask for. Recently, I asked about "fried clams" not those disgusting clam strips that have no taste but THE REAL IPSWICH BELLY CLAMS that you get in New England at the local mom and pop restaurants that are sweet and delicious. Anyway, one of the owners sat down with me and I wrote the name of the clams down and he told me he would get some the next time he went to the market. About a week later he called and told me he had them. Well, today I went there for lunch and.............THEY WERE FANTASTIC!...Just the way I remember them from Cape Cod. They are not cheap (I know that for a fact) but these were the best I have had anywhere in New York! Way better than the Oyster Bar at Grand Central Terminal. Their french fries are always great....do yourself a favor if you like fish and chips or fried clams head over there you won't be sorry! The First time I went, I got the fish & chips and Shrimp & chips as takeout. It was Fantastic!, perfect crispy batter and very tasty, and not at all greasy. The fish was white and thick and fluffy fish. (but, fries were soggy and not edible). The NEXT week I went and ordered the Large Fish & chips, (since the regular was soo good, and only 2 pieces) thought I would get the large/ 4 pc. ....WHAT A disappointment!!! The fish was different (he said it was whiting?) The batter was barely cooked, very light and greasy and the fish was raw! There was gray silvery "skin/scales" and the batter was not even attached/coated to the RAW fish ....and the fries were COATED in the same batter as the whiting greasy fish? HOW ODD! was not even edible. The raw inedible fish was a mess in pieces over the inedible fries!!--Had to throw it all out! VERRY disappointed. Don't know what the deal was. The ONLY difference, the First visit, i got food at 5pm, dinner time, and the second time, that the fish was raw was at 12pm....maybe they didn't get the fryers heated up yet? Was really disappointed, because I had been sooo excited after our first visit to finally have a fish fry place in the area. But, I guess it's hit or miss restaurant!! As the owner explained, this was a takeout restaurant that because of popular demand, he took over the space next door and expanded it into a takeout plus full sit down restaurant. The food was excellent. Virtually everything is a form of different fried fishes with chips. The fried fish dishes were very well prepared without any heavy greasy taste or feel. The coleslaw and fries were also delicious. The owner added a nice touch by coming around and making sure everything was OK. Definitely will be back. read more

Ate there for first time, small but comfortable. Very friendly staff. I had the grilled shrimp very tasty but Shrimp were on smallish side. My wife had the Seafood in broth, kinda pricey for a few clams and mussels plus only two small shrimp. Tasty but too small to satisfy. We did not try the fried seafood so cannot commit on that but portions looked ok. The side of mixed veggies were very good as well. The bar made a good Martini but beer selection was just ok. Lucky to get three stars from me. If you have fish and chips in the name of your restaurant, you better make some outstanding fish and chips. Quiet frankly I have gotten better fish and chips at some of the local diners. I want to point out that the food is tasty and service is ok, however the proportions were ridiculously small for the price. I ordered the 3 piece cod entree for $20. All I got was three tiny pieces of fish. Borderline appetizer size. Also for me the batter was not up to par. For me, the batter needs to be crisp. You should be able to tap your fork against the fish and hear it. Brother's versions while highly seasoned was not as crisp as it should be. Also sacrilegious was the soggy Chips. Again nicely seasoned but only warm and soggy. Possibly sitting around. For a fish and chips place your chips need to be fresh, crispy and piping hot. Also disappointing was the amount of wine we got. We got wine glasses filled with a shot worth of wine. Are you seeing a pattern here? So to sum up Brothers falls very short from a proper Chippy joint. Gordon Ramsey would probably have a fit. I know locals, as well as I do want Brothers to succeed, but I have to give an honest review. Nonetheless if you want to try something a little different and local to ossining then give it a shot.
