We were thrilled when we reached out and learned we could order a "duo" package of the original and cocoa cookies to use for our guest favors at our wedding. We had to fill out a simple order form, and the shop mailed them just a couple days in advance of the wedding, all assembled and individually wrapped with ingredients listed on each one. Thick and crunchy and buttery and salty-bites of goodness. That is how I describe the classic Brown Butter Cookie that I first tried years ago. My boss brought them to the office to share and I was hooked. Now whenever my sister and I visit Paso or Cayucos, we have to get these cookies for each other. Great cookie place in Cayucos! Just a few steps away from the beach and Ruddell's. You won't miss it as its on the intersection and the smell of butter and sugar will entice you to come in. The ladies are very nice and patient to explain and let you try their samples. SO GOOD!! Cookies are a bit pricey but worth it as they make it in house. First time here We found out about this place after seeing a travel show about Cayucos. I stopped by and purchased a three pack of the original brown butter cookies and a package of chocolate chunk cookies. They were very delicious and super buttery and had the perfect blend of sweet and salty. She told me that I HAD to come here if I decided to visit Cayucos Pier because the cookies were amazing. And damnit, was she right! I'm kicking myself because I only got one bag and I damn near ate the whole thing while driving back home to the Bay. It's all gone now, but I can still taste that brown buttery goodness on the tip of my tongue! The building itself is an eyesore. It looks like an old restored mansion house from the outside. Its' bright red paint and classic white trim will ensure that you'll never pass by without noticing. As soon as you enter, you'll be greeted with warm smiles and a harmonic "Hello!". They'll offer you cookie samples immediately, and you BEST not refuse. Take the samples. As a matter of fact, just sample them all! Your mouth will love you forever if you do. Have you ever had a cookie that just melted in your mouth as soon as you bit into it? This is it. THESE are those cookies. Soft and sugary. Explosive as soon as it hits your tongue. I bought a bag with several different cookies and all.... ALL of them tasted phenomenal! But, I have to say... their original brown butter with sea salt... dayum. Those babies are just.... whew! Who would have thought that a little bit of sea salt could make a world of a difference like that? Not everyone may fall in love with the sea salt, but I sure as hell did. These are their most popular cookies, so you know that they're doing something right. The ladies working here were extremely pleasant! You will get a sneak peak of some of the staff actually making the cookies from scratch in the back. Let me just say, these cookies ain't cheap. If you want those lovable brown butter sea salt originals, you could pay as high as $30 for a bag. YIKES! I know, I know... it can get pricey. BUT... they do have cookie bag deals that are cheaper (still pricey though). In the name of indulgence, I just had to freakin' do it. I got the Tower Special for $11.50 which comes with Chocolate chunk, oatmeal raisin, lemon sugar, snickerdoodle, 3 original brown & 1 cocoa butter brown cookie. Cookies are baked fresh daily. They offer some samples of their cookies and they are soft and chewy. I ended up with original and coconut lime. Both are really tasty and soft and chewy. The coconut lime has a good amount of coconut and lime flavor. They have "build your own" cookie packages and I got lemon, honey, and peanut butter. My favorite of the three I got was honey because it's the perfect sweetness. However, the cookie does bake smaller than the other flavors. Lemon was good too if you like lemon. It is a little more on the crumblier side though. Peanut butter is for any peanut butter lover. The staff is very friendly and I'd love to visit here again. read more

Don't blame me though!! We were first introduced to them at their Cayucos store and every time we are in the area we stop in. Pro tip: We did ask for the lemon cookies but the other locations don't have them as they don't have a long shelf life and they get their cookies from the Cayucos location one to two times a week. read more

This is a picture-perfect cookie company in resort-like town on the central coast. The building itself is very cute, and located right on the main drag in Cayucos. It'd be easy to park, get some cookies at the counter, and walk down to the pier which has great views. We got lots of cookies to try--all of the giant ones (including snickerdoodle, peanut butter, chocolate chip, and ginger/molasses). These were fine, but very buttery and not balanced enough with other flavors. The honey cookies were delightfully chewy, but very, very sweet with a cloying honey flavor. The brown butter cookies (we tried the original and chocolate mint) were very buttery and salty, and had a sandy-like texture (like shortbread). We weren't huge fans, because the flavors weren't quite balanced with these cookies, either. So this wasn't a win for us taste-wise, but we really enjoyed the packaging and the quaintness of the cookie shop. read more

You get samples--and many of them--the second you walk in. Very friendly employees. These cookies have the most unique, complex flavors I think I have ever tried (in a cookie). If they are available as samples, step outside of the box and definitely try ones that have unique names or ingredients. Again, pricey, but absolutely delicious. Sorry--no pics of any cookies. So glad we stopped here on our Cambria weekend getaway. The almond butter cookie and the chocolate chip cookie are outstanding I wish i bought more! They have a contactless set-up and the cookies are well-packaged. The cookies are so chewy and tasty and those brown butter cookies are so yummy especially with coffee. Drove out here from Santa Barbara. Was not disappointed. I came out here today to escape the gloomy weather in my town and find the sun. I was with a friend who mentioned that this little shop was a must-try. Naturally, I went and tried. The shop is located on the main drag in a well-preserved old building. It's in a nice little area right across from the ocean and flanked by other similar boutique-style businesses. There was a line of about 5 when I arrived at 11am, but the wait time wasn't longer than a few minutes. I'm not sure if there's usually an interior, but the current Covid-friendly operation involved a kiosk right at the door separated by a plexiglass partition. This location serves their well-known shortbread cookies along with more traditional baked cookies. I opted for the latter and took advantage of their "Baked Yesterday" 6-pack which was heavily discounted. The cookies were moist, chewy and delicious. My friend ordered their shortbread variety and those were insanely melt-in-your-mouth good. I will be sure to get those for myself the next time I find myself in the area. read more

More of a soft short bread style cookie with a caramel nutty flavor. Original and Bourbon were my favorites. Inside is a like a cookie workshop. ...and this place is how I discovered the town of Cayucos. I made my way here the first time during a solo trip to Big Sur. Recommended by a foodie aunt, I thought why not add it to the list. Sure enough, after that first visit & trying their original sea salt cookies... every time I go on a roadtrip along the coast, this HAS to be one of my stops. I'm a sucker for small businesses and companies that stay true to their craft. Like this one. You can't miss it, it's probably the best looking barn building in town. It's on a corner lot and have ample parking across the street or infront. You walk in and it's literally an open bakeshop with just shelves and tables of product and you can see the workers rolling the cookies by hand, individually. Amazing. Who does that these days? Not much machinery but labor of love in every cookie. Freshly baked and packaged. Explains why the cookies are not the cheapest, but I'll pay because they are divine. Reminds me of a shortbread, a little dry and crumbly but you can taste the brown butter in every bite, the sea salt balances it all out. Free samples of any flavor, just ask. Workers are very friendly. Blew my wallet again, walked out with some double dozens of the original, a few packs of the Honey cookies... rationing my stash to last as long as it can because the next time I'll have these would be the next time I visit Cayucos again - I think they ship now. Also happy that during my last visit, they now offer smaller packs of the cookies (3 PACK - $3.50, won't break your diet or your wallet), and the assorted pack of big cookies and the originals for an affordable price. Amazing cookies that I would describe as short bread style. Rich as the bakery's name implies. While all their varieties taste very much alike, my family favored the ones with either cinnamon or chocolate. We agreed the espresso could use a bit more coffee flavor and the lemon more citrus, and then properly demolished those too. More I ate them, the yummier they got. Parking could be an issue on weekends, but do not let that deter you from visiting. They are so worth spending extra time looking for a parking spot. Once you open the doors to their shop, you are greeted by the tantalizing smell of their various assortment of cookies. You can see plenty of staff in the back working and making cookies. I believe the flavor that they are mostly known for is their Original Brown Butter Sea Salt Cookie. I bought one little bag of those. After the kind young lady allowed me to sample several other flavors, I also purchased a bag of their Cinnamon flavored Brown Butter Sea Salt Cookie. Wifey added several regular cookies to our purchase. There were no samples for the regular cookies. None needed cause the ones she picked were all delicious. She graciously allowed me to take a bite or two of each, and they did not disappoint. My favorites were the two flavors I chose. They are so small, and they look so simple. With each bite and each cookie, they just got better and better and better!!! It was YUMMY!!!! Honestly, I would have purchased a lot more... but the price is a bit steep for my budget. This place had me at brown butter! Coming to the area I didn't realize how popular this cookie company was so I'm so glad I read up on reviews and stayed just a couple blocks away. TBH, this place is SO WORTH the hype. They allow you to sample as many of their shortbread cookie flavors ranging from - cocoa, original, almond, honey, limited flavor - bourbon, etc. They have an open front so as you're sampling you can see the staff making the delicious concoctions in the back. My faves were definitely the honey, original and almond shortbread cookies. If you're a cookie fanatic and want to take some home they package them in sets of 3, 6, 1 dozen, and 2 dozen with single or mixed flavors. The prices range from $3.75-$29+ We also wanted to try their other cookies so we were able to buy the chocolate chunk and everything cookies as singles vs. packs. Each cookie is ~$2.5 each.
