My aunt lives in Morro Bay and we decided to come to Cayucos for lunch and she mentioned this famous cookie place that I had never heard of so we decided to get in line and enjoy the overall experience . I loved that the cookies are made fresh daily and super flavorful . We ordered a tower sampler and also a few cookies on the side . We waited maybe 10 min in line on a Saturday in Dec but I can imagine on busy days the wait could be 30 min or more . There is menu of cookie choices and you get to sample the original brown butter sugar cookie . All of the cookies were delicious and you can tell they are made with love and real butter ;) When you bite into the cookie it's full of flavor and hint of spices . The bigger cookies are soft and my favorite was the chocolate chip cookie . The butter cookies would ship well and make a great gift . OMG these cookies are so delicious! A co-worker brought them back a couple years back and my oh my did I fall in love then and still love them now. My husband and I stopped on our way back to Avila Beach from Hearst Castle to find that they offer plenty of samples and have pre-packaged goodies to go. As you enter, you're greeted by friendly staff offering tasty samples, leaving you wanting more! There are plenty of cookie options to choose from, but most people choose the original flavor. I chose the large chocolate chip cookie which was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside-- I loved the mix of textures! It was a taaad too buttery for my taste, but that's probably to be expected from a place with "butter" in its name. I will say I was hoping for warm cookies, but one of the bakers said the warm cookies are available in the mornings, so if you can, definitely go early and get some cookies straight out of the oven! I also should mention that these cookies are quite pricey, with a package of 6 cookies costing over $20! Even with these steep prices, this bakery seems to have quite a following and people are willing to pay. While a few yelpers complain about the "high" prices they charge for their cookies ($1.75 for the butter cookies or $2.50 for the traditional ones) it's really good and guess what? these butter cookies are hand rolled. So, that explains it. If you're looking to save money (like I did!) I picked up a day old batch (only traditional flavors) for $7. It was still very good. We bought the assortment pack of cookies. We tried one the day we bought them, it was real good, although not a soft, moist cookie, but not hard. Stored them in a plastic snap container and by day 3 they were super dry. If I bought them again I would store them in a ziplock bag and see if they held their moisture a little better. read more

My fave is the cocoa cookie. We bought the original and the cocoa for a treat - 3 cookies for $7. These are bite sized cookies, so don't expect anything other than that. I think the facts that the brown butter is made stove top and that there are only a few ingredients used in making them are reason enough to trust the quality. They are more thick than wide and the shape is reminiscent of a Mexican wedding cookie. They make regularly sized cookies using the same method, but the small original flavored ones are what's popular. Although they are a bit pricey at $1 apiece, I think that they're worth every penny.
