If this review was based on my family's first visit to Lunada, then I'd be rating it 5 stars. The restaurant was bright, tastefully decorated, and they were playing classic jazz music. The food was quickly served, and delectable -- I had a vegetable omelet, with a generous side of delicious potatoes, which were crisp on the edges and well-seasoned. The overall atmosphere and food were great. Our first visit was so enjoyable, in fact, that we went back a second time soon after, perhaps only a week's time... and were disappointed. We simply ordered the same as we previously had, so no menu changes for us, yet the experience was a change for the worse. Our food took a surprisingly long time to arrive (there was no one else in the dining room), subjecting us to music that was not classic jazz, but pop radio. When the food finally arrived the side of potatoes was limited and soft. The serving of avocado that topped my omelet was also noticeably reduced. The tomatoes had changed from fresh to sun-roasted, and the spinach was barely there. The previously generous serving of fries on the side of my husband and son's burgers was also reduced. The servers were all very nice both times, but when the food is inconsistent at a restaurant, that is unsettling because you can never go with any confidence that you'll get what you expect. read more

Start with the positives - servers were friendly and garden setting was pretty. Food was close to being good but sadly missed the mark - the shrimp and clams fettuccini had literally TWO clams and 1 was inedible (I had to spit it out), and the pancetta was mostly white-fat (not trimmed properly). My husband liked his halibut but it was overcooked, and the portion was very small for $54. They only have wine-based "liquor" so you're basically paying hard alcohol cocktail prices for a cheap low-alcohol substitute. I had a glass of Chardonnay since they were out of sauv blanc, and it tasted like it was corked a week ago. It was eerily quiet outside except for the heater buzzing, so a little music and maybe a candle would've been nice. There aren't a ton of options in the area, but the drive to Cambria may be worth it if you're looking for something upscale that's actually worth the price. read more

First time here and here at happy hour and they have four beers listed for happy hour and none are available?!! Told they are sold out. Considered champagne but it is a brand I never heard off and the bottle was 3/4 empty. Yeah no! Not paying 6 dollars for a flat champagne. So I asked for a glass of water. Water tasted really weird almost like sea water. So am not drinking the water. Ordered a cup of clam chowder for 6 dollars and fried calamari rings for 10 dollars. Clam chowder was salty with a few chewy clams. The calamari was the worst I have ever had. Salty and black processed pepper in the batter. Stringy coating not removed from calamari (quite unpleasant) -- (Squid have a thin, slightly tough outer membrane called the skin or sheath and when it is not fully cleaned, it results in stringiness after cooking). Calamari was served with cocktail sauce. They should serve it with aioli sauce IMHO especially at 10 dollars price point. No lemon wedge provided either. Not impressed with happy hour menu here at all nor the quality of food nor drink selection. Ambiance at bar was nice - like the fresh sea air coming in the open doors. Seats at the bar are comfortable. Service was okay. I had to ask for cutlery and a napkin. And fabric napkin smelled like bleach. read more

We came due to the good reviews on Yelp! They had seating all throughout the joint, and there was a lady singing and playing an instrument. The service was very good and the prices were average. We had to $25 champagne mimosa special, it served up to 6 people! We had the Fish and Chips, Cajun Shrimp Tacos, the Pork Scramble and the Spinach Bacon Mushroom Omelette. October 12, 2025 - Cayucos, CA This is a beautiful restaurant, particularly if you have the opportunity to dine in the garden. On this occasion, the weather was less than ideal, so we were seated indoors. Upon arrival, we were informed that the restaurant's payment system was down and that only cash or Zelle would be accepted. While this was not an issue for us, it would have been appreciated if they had notified us in advance, especially since they had our contact information through the reservation. Service was warm and welcoming, though somewhat lacking in attentiveness--for example, water glasses were not refilled promptly. I ordered the Alaskan Halibut ($54), an 8oz wild Alaskan halibut topped with two Argentinian prawns and scampi sauce, served with mushroom risotto and seasonal vegetables. Went for lunch after visiting the dog beach in north Morro. Sat on their cute back patio with the doggies, and waited for a server. No one really helped us for a bit- seemed confusing but after 5 min our waiter came out with silverware etc and we ordered. I chose the eggs Benedict which came with a glass of champagne which was nice. My wife ordered the California burger and a beer. Apparently their CO2 was not working so she got a bottle instead. The burger and fries were good and the eggs benny had a nice bit of Mexican spice to the Hollandaise sauce, which was a pleasant surprise. I liked it! The service was pleasant, if just a tad slow. The fish and chips were good, but the Cajun shrimp tacos were pretty lackluster. They had very little seasoning and not much flavor overall. The Bloody Marys were okay, but definitely not the best I've had. The highlight of this place is the atmosphere. We went to dinner at Lunada Garden Bistro on our last night visiting the Central Coast. It is located in the heart of downtown Cayucos. We needed to find a place that allows dogs on a patio that has decent food. Our friends that live in the area suggest Lunada and joined us there. The outdoor dining area is truly special. It is a garden feels secluded and romantic. We were greeted by our server right away to get our drink choices. I ordered the Roasted Vegetable Pappardelle but I added prawns to it. The absolute worst eggs Benedict ever. One of the eggs was broken and they still platted it. Eggs were under cooked with runny whites. The potatoes were under cooked as well and had zero flavor. I just reduced my rating from five stars to three. The reason: I ordered the $19 bacon burger, and was stunned by how little meat was in it. Burgers in the $20 range are the norm these days, but for that price I expect an excellent burger, and I expect it to weigh at least 1/3 to 1/2 pound. I'll give them another chance or two, because my wife and I have enjoyed many meals there, but if the disappoint me again, they won't see me very often. read more

We arrived before 5:00 pm on a Sunday and we were seated immediately. The outside garden is a beautiful place to sit, absolutely gorgeous surroundings. Our server was nice and the service was overall pretty good. The food was delicious. The lobster was a bit overcooked making it slightly rubbery, but still good. The lamb was delicious and cooked exactly medium-rare. We will come back. In a recent trip to Cayucos, we came across a wonderful restaurant, Lunada Garden Bistro. It was such a very pleasant surprise. The further you explored the building, the more you discovered incredible details. It's beautifully designed and decorated with exquisite touches. Make sure you visit their amazing bar. Sip a drink on the red cozy couch. The dining tables are adorned with white linen tablecloths and napkins. They serve in the dining areas or in the garden. What a great find! This is such a cute restaurant and the garden is so special We came in for dinner last night and they have indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outside in the garden. The garden has little areas that are separated so it feels very private. Lots of shade but they have heaters for when it is cold We had the lobster egg rolls, chicken potstickers, bacon wrapped scallops, Caesar salad and soup. Everything was delicious! First the live music was wonderful. Then the food came - I ordered the calamari steak. One of the best I've had, but the sauces were what really got the 5 stars. The cocktail sauce had just the right amount of horseradish zing, but it was the obviously fresh made tartar sauce that highlighted the meal. Best tartar sauce I've ever had. Looks like a wonderful elegant spot, great if you're not vegan. The reviews that say "vegan friendly" are from years ago. There isn't a single vegan item on the menu and only one vegetarian entree. I am mostly vegan for health reasons and couldn't find anything that would work for me. read more

We ate at Lunada. Bottom line, the food is excellent. However, portions can be small, as in the brunch Chilaquiles (which doesn't come with eggs) and at $24 the limited ingredient dish could use a little more. The staff was friendly, but made mistakes like charging double for coffee, when it was included in the meal. Or not removing the bacon topping from the salad of a person who ordered the vegi burger (yes, probably the customers responsibility to request, but a sharp staffer should probably catch that). Another negative for us is when restaurants won't work with customers to split the bill. I understand the restaurants reason and how it is more convenient for them to not do this. However, the reality is when couples dine together, it becomes an inconvenience, and a headache to the customer to deal with what could be fixed with three separate bills, instead placing the burden on the customer to figure it all out. I hold a special place in my heart for restaurants willing to help in this manner. read more

Went to check out the Luna coffee place and entered here by accident. My family was "greeted" by a hostess just staring at us like wtf are you doing here. I finally said "um hello" and was met with a "yeah, did you want to eat here or what?" I'm used to being greeted whenever I enter a restaurant with "hello, how can I help you or how many today" I've worked in the restaurant/service industry for years and have never encountered such a strange greeting. The food is probably phenomenal but whoever was front of house on 12/21 around 10:45 needs some more training! read more

Across the way and down the street at another very popular spot was I'm sure good but the line to order at the window was 20 min then another 20 or so to make the food their team told us to expect a wait. I was so pleased at our first visit last year with the food dishes, however the cleanliness of the dining room is horrible . Still we couldn't wait to go again last night. What a disappointment. There was no hostess so the busboy seated us for our reservation. Service was slow but friendly. I ordered duck again because it was wonderful last time. It wasn't so wonderful this time. The presentation was great however it was served on a plate chipped in four places the duck was very rare and chewy the carrots and mashed potatoes were cold but tasty. The olive and rosemary bread and whipped butter was amazing. ( that was the best part of the meal) We were there for my friend's birthday dinner and she ordered steak and lobster. Our appraiser artichoke wasn't the best either. Tuff and watery but flavorful. The waiter then came to our table and informed us they were out of lobster. (That's why we came) imagine no lobster at an ocean restaurant. so she ordered chicken marsala. As for cleanliness I believe the same spiderwebs and spider were in the windows from last year along with dead flies. It doesn't take that much to clean out the windows.needless to say we skipped dessert and drinks and couldn't wait to get the hell out of there. The garden seating is really wonderful and is usually what we head for, but it was full today so we sat inside by the main st window. It was absolutely gorgeous and fun to people watch. Not sure how it is possible that I haven't reviewed Lunada until now?! I have been coming here since it first opened, and for many years prior when it was Hoppe's Bistro. It is one of my favorite dining establishments on the central coast! The food, the service, the ambiance, are all 5 stars. From the beautiful garden patio to the ocean views in the dining room, it is hard to find a more beautiful setting. The food is always fresh and so delicious. Their salmon entree with Israeli couscous is one of my all time favorite dishes anywhere and they always have amazing desserts, especially their fruit crisps! read more

This review is for the food I ordered today. The service we received was excellent, polite and attentive. I ordered the chorizo burger and it was mediocre. For the cost of the burger, I would at least expect a handmade fresh patty, not a perfectly round flat patty (similar to shape and size of a premade burger patty from a supermarket i.e., Angus patty from Costco). Too bad I didn't read the reviews about the burgers before coming here (read it for yourself). My suggestion, skip the burgers. We'll try a different restaurant next time we're in Cayucos. read more

After a day of hiking & the beach, we decided to try this place because we had been told the vibes on the patio were unmatched. That is true, it's a beautiful spot, inside & out. I just wish the food matched. The service was very attentive & pleasant, but I'm never a fan of being offered something like it's standard only to find out I was charged for it when I get the bill. Case in point, the sparkling water on my receipt. I've been to lots of restaurants that offer sparkling water as a standard since they just get it out of their soda fountain. This place brings you a fancy bottle and charges you $7 for it. I shouldn't have to ask if water is going to cost me $7. I don't care how fancy a place is supposed to be. The bread appetizer was yummy but not amazing. My spouse had bacon wrapped scallops & he did polish off the place and said it was good. So at least one thing was probably worth the $54 price tag. My shrimp & clams pancetta fettuccine was less exciting. It was just ok, which was disappointing for a dish with so much seafood. The best part about it was the aged Parmesan, that was definitely doing all the heavy lifting for the flavor. I ended up eating all the meat and taking the noodles home thinking I might doctor them up later, but honestly they sat in the fridge until they were thrown away. Lastly there was the crème brûlée. Parts of it were very good and then a not insignificant portion of the sugar crust had been burnt pretty badly. Overall it was just a really disappointing way to spend $145. The extra for the tip was not a disappointment however, the staff was amazing and earned every bit of tip. Lastly, none of the prices on the menu reflect what is on their website, even a month later when I'm writing this. If you raise your prices, you should probably update your website. I might try brunch here in the future but I'd probably have to be convinced by whoever I'm with. Considering Cayucos has a lack of really amazing restaurants, I was hoping this place would be that one gem. But now I have to live with disappointment. read more
