I was in Carrollton for business. Brown Dog was highly recommended. I had the Susan Hayward Salmon Salad--a perfect lite dinner. I asked the waitress why the salad was called "Susan Hayward". She mentioned the lady was from Carrollton. This lady, I said, was not just any lady. She was one of my childhood movie star idols. Thus began my google search about the Oscar winning actress. She was married to a gentleman farmer from Carrollton; lived in the area for nine years, prior to his 1966 death, and she and her husband are buried in Carrollton. Was recommended to go this restaurant from a local while working in the area. I ordered the Cuban on the menu with a side of potato salad. I was very disappointed for what I paid for. 12 dollars for a Cuban sandwich that tasted like the meat was old. Quality wasn't even sub-par, but the potato salad was good. The waitress didn't even care cause she never asked if everything was ok. I don't recommend this place if you want quality food for the price. read more

Nice addition to downtown Carrollton. The interior is kind of small but it is nicely decorated with a nice bar area. The menu selections are decent , I had the Salmon BLT wrap, but it was mediocre at best( the cold wrap and over cooked salmon kinda ruined it.) My biggest problem with this place is the fact they have an open kitchen and don't require their cooks to follow some kind of uniform policy( cook shirts, Chef coats, hell even t-shirts would be better.) They had a cook who looked like he hadn't showered since Obama was in office, wearing a dirty apron, long un-trimmed beard, and a greasy looking toboggan that didn't actually cover his hair which wasn't any cleaner than the hat. I like to think that if someone doesn't care about their appearance as a cook/Chef they probably don't put much thought into safe or proper food handling, and if their manager doesn't care enough to monitor it they probably care even less. read more

Have eaten here several times and until Sunday all have been good experiences. The food is consistently very good which is important but Sunday (4/2/17) the service was very, very poor and that made for an overall bad experience. Made brunch reservations for 4 adults and 2 children (ages 6 and 9) and were seated promptly. Ordered drinks, appetizers and our meals. 45 minutes later we still did not have our appetizers. Waitress said the kitchen was backed up. Waited some more. Waitress offered to take the appetizers off our order which I agreed to. Food finally came out. Things go wrong, I get that. What was so irritating was the absence of a manager's presence and the lack of awareness of the entire staff that things were just taking way too long and that the children were getting understandably fidgety. No one tried to "make it right" and I don't mean comp the appetizers. I mean act like our business is important. Go out of the way to communicate the situation and offer alternatives. Had we known when we were seated that there was a situation we still probably would have waited but at least we would have been informed. I will go back but another experience like this one and it will be the last time I go to Brown Dog. Too many good places to eat at on the square to put up with that kind of foolishness. read more

I had the Apple Butter Jeans Sandwich. It was good but not as good as the version I had at Disney's Contemporary Resort's Contempo Café. The version at the Brown Dog didn't have hardly any meat and I felt like I was just eating bread. If it had more of everything on the sandwich then it would be way better. LOVE this place. Easily my favorite place in downtown Carrollton. The drinks are a little pricey in comparison to (almost) everywhere else on the square that sells $1 beers, but that's their only downside. They make up for it with the creative menu, atmosphere, and delicious food. read more

My first review...I'm a world traveler and rely heavily on everyone else to find great places to eat during my travels...and this place is one of the best...service...I sat at the bar my standard, bar tender was great, quick to take my order get my drinks ask if I wanted another before I was finished with one...but the food...delicious...I had a fig n pig with a side of potato salad... you could really taste the smokiness of the pulled pork...potato salad was really good not to mayoish...but the poutine fries were out of this world good. We arrived around 8pm on a busy Saturday night but got seated right away, which was surprising considering the amount of people milling around. This is a noisy place when busy so prepare yourself. We both ordered the shrimp and grits. We saw our food sit at the pass for about 5 minutes while the staff chatted and joked with each other. When it finally arrived it was cold. We sent it back and waited...and waited. 10 minutes later and the grits were STILL cold. I was able to read the lips of one of the cooks who said, "there's no way it was cold". We arrived after performing at the Carrollton Amp across the street late in the evening. We brought about 30 people with us and pretty much filled the restaurant in a very short period. The staff was friendly and accommodated us with no issue. They were very efficient and got us all food and drinks in short order. The food was excellent! Not worth the wait... The service was not good, servers didn't know the menu, pricing was wrong, and the food was not that good. The menu is extensive and sounds wonderful, but our food came out not very hot, and was just overly greasy and buttery and way too salty. Can't say that I will be back. read more

The food is some of the best in Carrollton. However, stars go for service too and service is lacking. The hostesses have trouble getting tables ready. We were in Carrollton to see family and dropped by this restaurant for brunch. It was probably one of the best meals I have had in a while. It did take about 30 minutes to get our food but the waitress kept an eye on us and kept our glasses full. I had the french toast and my husband had the shrimp and grits. Very disappointed...was wondering why there was no wait on a Friday night... ordered burgers cooked medium and they came out well. Sent them back and they still came out over cooked. Don't bother. What a trainWreck. Walk in and half or more of the restaurant is not filled. Empty chairs and tables everywhere. Then you get rudely asked if we have a reservation. Answer no. We are told they are full and the wait will be VERY long. How long? Hours. What a joke. How about we learn how to manage table and wait staff flow and the message and interface with the customer. I always come here when I am in town visiting my friend. We went yesterday and had the sin dip (MUST MUST try), duck fat fries, and the southern charm burger. Everything was fabulous.
